The only good thing about this animal hospital is that it is local. My mom took our dog to this animal hospital because he had boil on his neck that had been bothering him for a few days. Neither my mom or I knew dogs could get boils so we thought it was best to take him an animal hospital and see what they could do. After hearing what she had to experience at this place we are never bringing our dog here again. The vets accused my mom of abusing our dog and when she said she didn’t they asked if anyone else had done something to the dog at home. She was disgusted by this accusation because no one in our family would ever treat a dog like that. Our dog, Prince is very loved and we care for him very much, it’s the reason why we took him to the vet in the first place. We had concerns for our dog and couldn’t do much for him on our own so the next best thing was to take him to professionals (or what we thought were professionals). She proceeded to tell me that the vet treating our dog didn’t know what boils were. I was shocked to hear this because people can get boils too, it’s not like it is a new thing.

I'm so disappointed of the owner response. This must be his clerical staff responding for him. You do know all caps mean you are yelling. I believe we should be able to sit in the waiting room with our pet. One at a time and show that we are vaccinated. Owner response is so combative. This is why the police had to visit this place,. This place is in my neighborhood, I'll find another place so when I write a review the owner won't attack me.

I called to inquire about vaccination records to have my dog groomed at Petco. Maybe I shouldn't have said that, I've been bringing him here for 7 years and liked their service (a nice homely feel). I haven't been here in about 3 years (let's blame that on COVID). Anyway the gentleman told me dogs need vaccination every year but he was booked for about a month so let Petco do it and hung up. That was not polite. Am I wrong? I hope you have a better experience because this used to be a great place.

Appointments are needed. I have been coming to this vet for over 15 years with all my cats and obviously, I have been satisfied with their services. Now I can't say the same. Because of the pandemic things have changed drastically. You are not allowed inside with your pet. I understand the reasoning, but they need to do better. To the non comprehending reader that was in such a hurry to drop insults my way, it's ok if you did not understand. Not once did I say I would not abide by the rules and regulations. I do respect the rules. Just like how you guys come outside to get our pets, and I might add without a mask, one owner at a time should be allowed to enter with their pet. All I am saying is maybe come up with a better solution for us pet owners. I am sure I am not the only one who thinks this way. Again, understand what you read and comment approprietly.

First time here they were amazing. I was a little scared seeing the negative reviews but from a first hand experience they were great. Very nice and quick too. Will definitely be coming back and recommending to others.

This establishment needs to be shut down. Terrible customer service and everyone there acts as if they do not want to help clients. Very unpleasant people.

Dr. Chaikin, David, Mark and the entire staff are wonderful, caring people. We have long relation with AM&S Clinic that started 30 years ago when they helped us when no one else could or would. On Sunday night, April 19, 2021 a situation developed that made it necessary to put our dog down. Sure enough, Both Dr. Chaikin & David came immediately, took the dog and ended his suffering. There are no words to describe our thanks and gratitude. You are god sent and may god bless you all.

I don't like to post negative reviews but this is meant to help someone along with this practice. Initially when I came to the office I wasn't quite sure what to expect as office procedures differ from vet to vet however by the end of my visit (which I had to wait for over 3 hours for my cat to be seen) I was quoted a hospitalization price of $1298 at this point neither the doctor or myself had come anywhere close to a conclusion of what exactly was wrong with my kitten... we didn't even get to diagnostic testing before that price came up but I digress... I decided not to move forward something just didn't seem right. I decided to call Lefferts Animal Hospital and let me tell you my experience was completely different... from front desk staff right up to the doctor I was kept abreast about kitty's treatment, diagnosis, etc Dr. HARPIN is freaking awesome. He gave me 3 different options when it came to her treatment and guess what??? Within 4 hours my fur baby was back to her happy playful self. I feel dup'd because I asked staff at Animal Medicine and Surgery once I was quoted the price if there was anything they could do for my kitty that didn't involve her being hospitalized and I was told because funds are an issue they wouldn't be able to treat her... honestly that broke my heart because I was scared that my kitten would die or something and this place didn't offer me options to help my kitty. Please just don't go here... it's just not worth it Update (response to owner): This is in response to the comment the owner left on my review, as I said previously this was meant to help someone and yourself (rather your business) I believe the correct term is constructive criticism but from the way you have responded I see that this is not a concern for you however Ill indulge you and set the record straight as a doctor your ethics should be higher than resorting on having to lie on me. My kitten is 6 months old, she was born on October 13th, 2020. Secondly, I never asked anyone at your office for antibiotic's, how would I know if that's even what my kitten needed. I specifically asked if there was anything else that could be done for her that would not cost that amount of money and your staff member responded verbatim "SINCE FUNDS ARE AN ISSUE THERE IS NOT MUCH WE CAN DO FOR HER... I CAN GIVE YOU INFO TO A CLINIC THAT CAN HELP" that is very different from asking for antibiotics wouldn't you say doc?? Your comment insinuates that I know how to treat my kitten but then there would have been no reason for her visit to the vet right? Additionally, upon having my kitten x-ray it turns out she had eaten something and was given a laxative to help her pass it. MY BILL WAS UNDER $250 @ LEFFERTS ANIMAL HOSPITAL/ Dr. HARPIN's office now has another loyal customer and you just have horrible work ethics and reviews. Please spend some time improving your knowledge as well as your practice

I saw a lot of negative comments stating that this place was only after your money and the people were rude. I didn't get that from them at all. I had a last minute emergency appointment today. They were booked but squeezed me in due to my cats problem (which was really nice because they didn't have to take me). The receptionist was nice, the gentleman who comes to your car to get your pet was very nice. He was super informative and super understanding. They break everything down to you and you choose what you want to do. They are not pushy and /or forceful. They gave me my xray results and even said that I can use them to get a second opinion. Doctor visits are always going to be a bit on the pricey side especially without insurance. It comes with the territory. If you can't pay it it's okay, it can be a lot. I just don't think that should be taken out on the vet for just doing their job.

Our cat Wiz was not feeling so well so my wife found this animal clinic on google. They are great the front desk staff and the assistant helper were awesome. THEY ACTUALLY MADE YOU FEEL LIKE FAMILY. Unfortunately our lovely cat is more like a lion lol and is sometimes hard to deal with but they ensured us that he would be fine and he was. From the start to the end of the process was pretty fast and we’re grateful that we found them.

My dog Oscar is 13-years-old. Two days ago I noticed that Oscar was using his paw to scratch his ears. Late last night I notice that his ear were bleeding. I called today to ask for an appointment for him from Animal Medicine and Surgery Clinic, where Oscar has been going for years. The reception/Christine informed me that I can't get an appointment for Oscar. I explained to her that Oscar's ears were bleeding, and requested that i speak to the veterinarian so that he could tell me how to help Oscar until I see him tomorrow. "No! You can't speak to the doctor. He is in a meeting right now and he won't be able to speak to you." I asked, Do you know what I can do to help my dog. I can't stand that he is in such pain that he is scratching his ear till it bleed. "Nothing! You do nothing until you see the doctor." I said, But Mam, my dog is in pain and I need help for him. "You can't talk to the doctor and we can't see Oscar today. I will see you tomorrow." We won't be going back!

The front desk people are super unorganized I basically became their secretary at one point and had to call them multiple times a day to get information about my pet. when I scheduled my appointment they did not tell me that I would have to be standing outsidez so I went with my dog and had to stand outside in the cold for multiple hours waiting for them to be seen. They expected everyone to arrive in a car! this is New York City no one drives. When they took my dog in I spoke to the technician who took her and told him all my concerns. he said that I would get a call when the vet was inside with my pet. I never got a call and an hour later they brought my dog out. They said nothing about the other concerns I had told them about. I was there to have them check her back & stomach and give her a vaccine. All they did was provide the vaccine & nothing else. I’ve been there before and the experience was completely different. But this time around they are just super unorganized! They need a better system. There was another family there to euthanize their elderly sick dog. They waited for hours in the rain. They never brought out a chair or anything to make them or the dog more comfortable. I felt really bad because they had no kindness to offer the family. Their dog was cold and they were all uncomfortable in this really difficult time!

All they want is money, I was asking the vet questions after this so called check up for my cat they did and he didn’t want to give me his full name he just kept saying David. I wasn’t allow to come in during the check up just had a paper and Pay $72

Today was my second time visiting this clinic. I can honestly say they were very welcoming and knowledgeable. They basically told me everything I needed to know about my cat health and well-being in just 15 minutes. Specially doctor Steven Fox his a little talkative but in a good and positive way he told me things I would of never know and even think of research such as the effect of the wrong cat dry food on male cats. And the ladies were really nice and sweet with my little snow it made me feel like I can trust them and leave my cat with them. I was a little nervous at first base on all the reviews I read here. In my opinion, I think its there job and in everybody best interest for them to tell you what you should be doing for your pet in terms of procedures to keep them healthy and if you choose not to get it done that day because of money or whatever reason that's fine. But its always good to know. The other doctor was really nice as well the first time I met him was walking my dog he gave me tips when he didn’t have to. Overall the doctors are professional, caring and knowledgeable.

Amazing staff (Dr Fox, David, Mark, Francine Cheryl & Michelle) I brought in a stray dog that i found who was literally matted soo bad that you couldn’t see his face paws or anything. He was also slightly aggressive. It’s actually indescribable the way he was but the staff here was extremely nice to me and did everything for the dog. They handled his personality well and took full control of him. They worked with me with the prices and made him look amazing. The Dr was very genuine in his actions and personable i really appreciate it. I will be going back .
