EXTREMELY OVER PRICED .while some of the staff were very kind , the people who Handled my precious pets ( my beloved chicken ) (then again later with a very sweet guinea pigs )in my opinion were very rough and inexperienced. grabbing and pulling them with seemingly no care for the panic or pain they were adding to the stress of the visit or the reasons why we were there because of illness or injury . The surgeries they put my animals through only turned into infection abscesses that they would not even examine or give any treatment for of any kind if I couldn’t pay up front more ridiculous Amounts of money ranging in the thousands. The so called expert was NEVER around . I was charged over 7 thousand dollars and with their insane and extremely inhumane Covid restriction rules Such as having to wait outside while they do whatever to your precious companion Including euthanasia or surgery!!!! They OBVIOUSLY DONT care about their clients needs or animals . ONLY MONEY . THERE IS NO going back for me . Why did they EVER Enter this Field in the first place??? THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT THE PLACE OF THE CARING PROFESSIONALS THEY PROCLAIM TO BE. I will have to travel further away for better respect, treatment and quality of care for the animals that I love and I suggest everyone else does too!!!

After seeing several exotic veterinarians I feel fully confident in recommending the team at VCBE. Dr. Dewey is one of the most knowledgeable and professional veterinarians I’ve encountered to date and she showed genuine compassion and concern for my pet rat. Despite living two hours away, I will continue to entrust the care of my pets to her expertise.

If I can give them a negative 5 star rating I would. They killed 2 of my Sugargliders because to them they were just another client. Not to mention they are way overpriced! $100 bucks just to walk into the door. Outrageous! I found a vet in Newburgh that takes them with much better care and price wise is nothing compared to them.

Kind, gentle and empathetic! The staff at Birds and Exotics are absolutely amazing and I can't speak highly enough of Dr. Hess. My sweet bunny Bella was in critical condition, so we found ourselves at this clinic under less than ideal circumstances. Dr. Hess was incredibly communicative and ensured that I understood everything going on including the pros and cons of each treatment option. My bunny couldn't have found herself in better hands and I can't thank Dr. Hess and the team enough for saving my little girl!! Highly recommend :)

5 stars isn’t enough to rate this place. It’s rare for me to give reviews but this place was too good to not review. I brought my duck with an infected foot in and they were amazing! I was expecting a high bill for the services but it wasn’t at all! I cannot believe how affordable the amazing services were. They were so nice and respectful, it was perfect. I’m never going anywhere else for my ducks, this is it. Stop looking for an exotic vet, go here!

This is the #1 place to go to get the best care for your Exotic pets. I have been going there since 2011 and would definitely say the care and compassion I and my Birds receive is overwhelming. Sure you will see negative reviews but what you are reading is from pet owners who do not take their pets in at the first sign of a problem so small problem low bills big problem high bills. The best way to know for sure is to go for yourself and find out first hand how much they care for you and your pets .And don,t let people who write those Negative reviews try to tell you that the Vets and staff are incompetent at the Vet Center Dr Laurie Hess credentials could fill one of her Exam Rooms . When you go to the VCB&E you are going to take your pet to a Exotic Pet Specialist where you will have the best chance of finding out what the problem is because of the knowledge and experience Dr Hess and staff have with exotic pets. I have had my birds Micro-Chipped and they sedated the birds to make it less stressful for the birds I have read horror stories where don,t know what kind of vet but no sedation was used and the bird died because of loss of blood from being stressed out. To find out what the problem is with your pet is gonna take tests, blood work, ex-rays I think some people think Dr Laurie Hess and staff can click their heels or rub a magic lantern or wave a magic wand and everything will be okay that,s not gonna happen . So please understand some of those negative reviews are from pet owners who are incompetent , Negligent , Inexperience people blame the Vets for something they are responsible for

The Veterinary Center for Birds & Exotics is the only place I trust to care for my parrot. Most vets are only experienced in treating dogs and cats. We drive an hour to see the staff at VCBE because they are friendly, caring, and know how to handle and treat exotic pets. My parrot, Gryffin, is a challenging case, and Dr. Marino has gone above and beyond in coming up with new ideas to help him! It is completely to her credit that Gryffin is still with me. I cannot fully express the appreciation I have for all the help and care that Gryffin has been given. Dr. Marino and the rest of the staff at the Veterinary Center for Birds and Exotics are truly the best!

Thank you so much to staff and veterinarians of Birds & Exotics! I had an appointment for my green cheek conure this morning as I was concerned with his unexpected feather plucking. I greatly appreciated the transparency of what everything was going to cost, and since the problem wasn't too serious yet, I was given different treatment plans with the professional advice of Dr. Dewey. The curbside assistance was very smooth and everyone was super efficient and so friendly. They took great care of my bird while in their care. Went home feeling relieved with a plan of action. Thank you so much!

The vet could see my daughters rabbit today, explained the issues and options clearly. Staff was professional and caring. My first time going to a vet very happy with experience.

The Veterinary Center for Birds and Exotics saved my bird's life. My pet turkey was experiencing shortness of breath, lethargy, and lack of appetite. I had been taking her to another avian vet, who couldn't determine what was wrong, and referred me to Dr. Hess at the Vet Center for Birds and Exotics. In my opinion, Dr. Hess is the best avian vet in the northeastern USA. Not only did Dr. Hess correctly diagnose the problem that same day, but she administered life-saving treatments that saved her life. Dr. Hess also helped develop a care plan that continues to help my bird have a good quality of life, despite my pet's diagnosis of a mass in her abdomen that is leading to ongoing inflammation. I feel confident that everything possible has been done for my pet up to this point to make her comfortable and happy. When I had questions about her treatment, Dr. Hess patiently answered all of my concerns over the phone. Her level of expertise is apparent within moments of talking with her. I also would like to add that the Vet Center never questioned my unusual choice of a pet turkey, and treated my case with the same urgency as anyone else's more common animal companion. If you are serious about getting the best possible care for your exotic animal, then I recommend this place wholeheartedly. Are they the cheapest? No. But, they are the best, and it's hard to put a price on that.

We brought our guinea pig to get checked out and he died while his blood was being drawn. Got charged for every single little thing including $180 CPR. In the end, we got a white shoe box with our dead pet in it. - Next!

Dr Dewey is absolutely fantastic. She answered every single question I had and let me blast all my craziness spending an hour with me. Would 10/10 recommend to anyone. She saw my ferret who is intense and hard to handle, the techs were so great and I am going home with peace of mind. Thank you so much to this team!

My family and I have been coming here for more than 10 years. When I was young, we came here with my leopard geckos, and they got the best care they ever could have, even having a few issues diagnosed that I doubt would have been caught elsewhere. Dr. Hess is a kind and caring veterinarian, and is probably the most well known vet here, but every single vet we've been to who works here has been excellent. They even offer out of hours emergency consultations, which I have been able to use twice- once during a recent power outage when Dr. Hess told me how best to take care of my lizard and my rabbits in the hot summer heat, and once when she was able to squeeze one of my rabbits in the very next day after she got caught chewing on a phone cord (the area was rabbit proofed, but she's a very crafty creature and got into stuff when our backs were turned) to help not only with what I knew could be a problem (burns which she thankfully didn't have, intestinal blockage/stasis which we'll find out if she has today) but also with things I wouldn't have thought about (Zinc poisoning). For as long as our family lives less than an hour away (which will be at least for the rest of our current exotics' lifespan), this vet center will be our absolute go-to, and we've recommended it to all our friends. Never have we felt worse off after going here than we would have otherwise. I don't even usually leave google reviews, but I saw some absolutely bonkers ones while I was sending the directions to my mother, so I wanted to set the record straight: yes, this place is more expensive than the others, but you're getting world-renowned care of the highest quality for your pets. It's especially risky to go to a vet who isn't as experienced if you have a rabbit, and I'm sure as hell not taking that chance when I know we have exemplary care right here. Thank you to every vet here for your quality service!

You’re better off somewhere else. Too many “misunderstandings” with the people who work there. They will try and tack on as many exams to your bill as possible. And the staff and doctors are rude.

Imagine going to the ER and as part of the visit the doctor tries to sell you supplements and some other health improvement device. Wait, whuuuut? Oh, and the price of these add-ons is baked into the final estimate for the entire emergency visit. Slick, real slick. Surely ethical business practices would have you quote the medical procedures separately from the optional well being add-ons.

I drove 2 1/2 hours down to Bedford Hills with my 21 year old rescue Senegal parrot because he had a stroke on a Saturday and our regular avian vets were not open locally. They were thorough knew just what to look for and explained everything in great detail to me. One of the gripes I have with our local vets is that they tend to talk down to me like I don’t know what I’m talking about. I feel like the vet I spoke to quickly picked up on the fact that I understand a lot about avian biology and medical terminology and spoke to me on a more scientific level which I really appreciated. Only to return home to my regular vet to not get that treatment. Considering another 2 1/2 hour drive to continue his treatment. I’m happy to say I know exactly where to go next time I have an emergency on a Saturday.

Their protocol and service has changed since the Covid outbreak. Prices are way much higher and apathetic attitude from a majority of staff. No one at the front desk can price necessary services over the phone or even connect you to someone that can. These are hard times for everyone but it seems like they are out to make a extra buck or two at your pets expense. All my pet needed was a few extra services that was discussed prior and I’m being overcharged. If they are coming in for the same exact treatment as an prior visit, shouldn’t the price for those services be the same? Practice is going downhill... almost as bad as some doctors that “treat” people... disappoint in my current experiences with this practice

I brought my rabbit Future here for an abscess. It was drained by them and the doctor wanted to me to pay over $5000 for a procedure that may not work. I gave them X-rays that I had done somewhere else that showed that Future had severe malocclusion but the insisted that they also needed CT scans as well as other unnecessary tests. All they saw was $$$ when I came in. They wouldn’t even help identify if another rabbit of mine was female or male but somehow they had time to do a very time consuming and expensive procedure. In the end I got a second opinion from caring animal vet who told me that draining the abscess doesn’t stop it from coming back it actually opens it up for more infection!!!! So the drained poor Future’s face Making him look like a zombie bunny. On top of that once the wound closed it became reinfected and abscess started to push his eye out. The doctor who went to for the second opinion removed the entire abscess with the sac intact. The filler it with antibiotic beads and then gave me a special cream to keep the wound clean. This minor surgery greatly improved Future’s appearance and happinesses . I would urge you to not use this vet and seek out a second opinion . This place cares only about money & don’t believe they are experts like they claim they are.

I came here for a second vet's opinion on my pet chinchilla. Jasmine (receptionist) was so kind and friendly when booking the appointment, filling out forms and checking out! Dr. Cummings treated my chinchilla and was very knowledgable and discussed what she thought of my animal in terms of possible treatment plans etc. My chinchilla also really liked her! The facility is clean and welcoming. I am so glad we found you guys!

If I could give no rating I would but I’ll just say this 1 star rating is for the kind staff and assistants only. Was told by the vet not to worry and I was like so he’s isn’t going to die and she says no not yet this happened to my bird and it’s 6 years later and he/she is fine. So I figured okay he needs recovery time. The vet says she wasn’t worried AT ALL. and he’s gone 5 days later. I’ve been so depressed for months now. Now I’ve lost plenty of pets in my life and I’ve always made the hard decision to let them go during there time. They are out of pain. I got to help them get out of there pain. But I was given false hope for the first time in my life regarding my pet and he was the one who suffered. HE SUFFERED! And it kills me inside every single day that he went the way he did. He suffered because of the vet here. I’ll never forget this pain. This is the worst pain I’ve ever had he was my baby and his passing was not peaceful at all! I will never return here ever again!

Brought my pair of ciaque in for a wellness visit. I was extremely pleased with the professionalism and timely manner of our appointment. Sadly, my birds are diagnosed with an illness. With Dr. Cummings I feel reassured that I will be able to give them the best care possible with their recent diagnosis. Dr. Cummings spent over 15-30 mins on the phone when she gave the diagnosis reassuring my wife and I that she had a plan and educating us on what we need to do. As a nurse that works in health care I’m glad to find a doctor that takes time to make sure we fully understand. I would suggest this place to anyone with a bird, prices are slightly higher but well worth the investment for your animals health and well being.

I'm upset about my experience here especially in comparison to the vet I went to immediately after this. I went here the other day for my pet rat who has a confusing but immediate issue that needed immediate attention. I was given an extremely high priced estimate that seemed unreasonable so I decided to look elsewhere. I cancelled my appointment the day after I made it and explained that I found a better suited vet for my rat. A few days after I made my cancellation and made it clear I no longer needed their service, I received a phone call from dr hess and she basically questioned my cancellation alluding to the fact that I was picking price over my pet's well being and asked where I went instead of them, which is none of their business. In my opinion, this is so completely unprofessional and rude to call someone who has made it clear that they will not be needing your service and allude to this harsh and inaccurate claim. If it was out of actual concern for my pet that would've been different.

Dr. Cummings is extremely patient and caring. She took a great deal of time explaining medical options to me and my daughter, and never made us feel rushed. She is a great veterinarian for hedgehogs.

Really happy with our vet Alison and the rest of the staff. I recently rescued an exotic bird. I decided to take him for a check up just in case. It turns out my baby had a somewhat common infection. Alison and staff are super helpful and very knowledgeable. Because I am a new pet owner I have a lot of questions. Both the vet and staff are very kind about answering them all.
