First time we went our dog had a nice pup cut. This time we showed up at our scheduled appointment to find the door locked and no one answering the phone. I could see someone in the back but they would not come let us in. They need a much better appointment intake process instead of email if they can't remember client appointments.

They don't have much variety plus they a little expensive

Will quote you a price and charge you a higher price when you come to pick up your dog. They lack decent customer service skills and failed to give me a receipt for the services they performed on my dog.

Wow! I never leave reviews. Especially because they can be so damaging to a business. But I have to say, I'm never bringing my pet to Chez Bow Wow again. I've been coming to them for the last 9yrs now. Every year her hair kept getting shorter and shorter. In all of those years, I never complained but finally I decided it was time to speak up and especially because their prices went way up. The last 3 times I brought my Yorkie here, they cut her hair so short she was unrecognizable even after I gave them specific instructions and pics to show how I wanted it. She looked like a cat her hair was so short. They also made me feel awful for complaining about it. Not only are their prices outrageous, $88. for a 5lbs Yorkie (not including tip) which I don't mind paying, but the staff is rude and act as if they're doing you a favor by grooming your dog and God forbid you complain. Their prices reflect the rent they have to pay in Northern Liberties not their skills in grooming animals or their customer service. For the prices they charge I should get exactly what I want not what the random groomer decides, or is capable of. I finally had to tell them, they will no longer be getting my business. 3 strikes and you're out. You need new management and skilled groomers.

Since my last review was taken down, I have revised it. 3/30/2021 (the owner asked for my personal information on Yelp, that makes me extremely uncomfortable) I was back and forth if I should write a review as my experience was a few months ago and I didn't want to hurt a small business. I want to start by saying the groomers were absolutely amazing and helpful when I had questions and concerns about my cat at her first grooming. The groom came out beautiful. Absolutely stunning. I was thrilled with the services and how wonderfully my cat was cared for by Juju. My issue is with the owner, Gwendolyn, at pickup. As I was speaking with her, she was clearly not in the right state of mind (DrüΠ©) and that made me extremely uncomfortable. I do not want anyone coming near my pet with scissors while they are clearly Ïñ†0xica†3D. She was condescending and wouldn't let me finish my statements without being interrupted. I had high expectations for this place, but is seems like there is a serious problem at the head. I support local businesses whenever I can, however I can not support this establishment anymore. My advice, keep the staff and loose the owner.

Unfortunately I cannot echo the positive reviews like so many others have about Chez Bow Wow. I took my Portuguese Water Dog for his first grooming here as I heard a lot of positive reviews from other dog owners in the neighborhood and considering their schedule was always busy, I assumed they must be good. When I dropped off my pup, I specifically asked that they not cut too much off as we like his hair to be kept longer and pointed out some large matted hair behind his left ear which they said they could remove without cutting the rest of him too short. I kept repeating to the female groomer that I did not want my pup's hair to be trimmed too short, but the entire time it seemed like she was not hearing or listening to what I was telling her. Well as you may expect, when I picked up my pup 5hrs later, he was no longer recognizable; they cut his hair much shorter than they said they would. I was in shock when I saw him, while the groomer kept stating if I wanted to keep his hair long, I needed to come back every 4 weeks. The least they could have done was check in at some point during his grooming to ask if the length was appropriate, which I have had other groomers do in the past. They may be good at grooming specific types of dogs, but if you want to keep your dog's hair long, I would strongly recommend against this place. For the price they charge, they need to listen to their customers better and communicate more through the process if they are unsure if the owner will like the results. Thankfully, hair comes back but not my business.

The very best groomer we have ever used. Our dog weighs 130 lbs and has a beautiful long coat . He needs brushing / grooming on a regular basis. He is a conformation champion of the Leonberger dog breed. He loves to go to Chez Bow wow!

Fantastic and reliable staff! Please support this place! The unethical lock down on this facility has made it difficult for business and furr alike.

I recently brought my cat in for a grooming I was a bit skeptical about getting my cat groom because I know that my cat is not an easy cat to do deal with, but they ensure me that everything will be OK and they know how to handle the situation. So I drop off my cat after 2 hours the called me to come pick her up that she was already to go home, The staff was outstanding and very caring towards my cat was super happy with my cat cut. The only thing that I did notice a day later was that they didn’t clip all the nails probably on my kitty because I notice they were still Sharp on certain areas, I also noticed that they nick one of her nipple in the grooming process cause it had a little scab which she later lick it and it bled a little bit. I understand things happen I just wish they would’ve brought that to my attention so I would’ve been aware of it, but like I said before I know my cat attitude and know she’s not an easy cat to groom. Other than that I still recommend this establishment for pet Grooming.

It's worth the wait, we have a Great Pyrenees (long hair and a double coat) and we've had less than positive experiences elsewhere where they don't know how to properly groom and end up shaving them and not removing the undercoat before bathing. We found Chez Bow Wow after chatting with another pyrenees owner and I'm so thankful to have found the wonderfully kind and talented folks over there!! They accept credit cards, cash etc and tips are cash or venmo/PayPal. They just get dogs if that makes any sense and even though ours is normally nervous, he went into the back willingly and was happy and happy when we got him home. Can't recommend enough!!!

My nervous rescue French bulldog does so well here. They really take their time with her because of how scared she gets. She has really warmed up to the place and the staff loves her!

Love Chex Bow Bow. Not only do they groom our Yorkie perfectly, they treat the dogs with lots of care. I appreciate that they do not cage the dogs while they are waiting. The best groomer in Philly for sure. I have been to a few.

We have been Che Bow Wow’s client for the past 9 plus years, my Bubbles hates and bites most of us well now he has like 5 teeth, however the staff has seen Bubbs go from a young perky misbehaved pupp to an old grouchy, scary older pupp (17yrs old) and we are always welcomed with open arms... with bubbs aging they have been helpful in showing us how to care for our aging family member outside of only grooming him and we are so appreciative!!! We luv you Juju and Gwendolyn!!! Xo Jackson -Bellamy family

They do a wonderful job grooming Jerry my long haired Persian/Himalayan. It is hard to find a good cat groomer. they are very caring with my pet and cut his hair so cute. I am a repeat customer. They have done a great job every time. would recommend to anyone who wants a nice cut for their cat.

While my dog did look beautiful coming out there was an incident in question that is making me question and lower my rating. I brought him in and it was his first time being groomed with me as he is a shelter dog- so I will say I didn’t know how he would be. After about two hours, they call and state that at the very end he randomly bit his groomer and wouldn’t let go. During, he was calm the whole time then all of a sudden at the end got aggressive (toy Poodle). Since we have had him he has shown zero aggressive behavior and has been around numerous children babies and other dogs. I apologized (paid the extra fee) and went home only to find that his one back nail was completely bent, bleeding, and a piece hanging. It continued to bleed on and off the next two days (was not bleeding before we took him). Upon calling and explaining the situation, I was told that “oh yeah we noticed it was damaged before” while that could be the case, I would think they would tell me right when they got him, before the biting, given the level of blood I personally saw on my things/ he would be bleeding on the table. Again I would like to give the benefit of the doubt, but found the whole scenario suspicious. While no aggressive behavior should be tolerated- I don’t think paying for an injury and natural reaction should be either. I wanted to love this place- as they state even their speciality is finicky dogs, but will be giving another groomer a chance next time. Hoping it really was freak aggression on my dogs part, but beware.

The people working here are the 'real deal' in Philadelphia animal welfare and are also professionals that do a fantastic job. They are sensitive and deeply compassionate about what they do. I've used them in the past for my rescue animals and recently had my senior cat who was matted and very stressed out receive a great lion cut. They called to tell me that it may take 2 appointments though they did finish it in one- and also that a bath would not be a 'good thing' because they so love and care for their 'clients.' The atmosphere is fantastic- they have their own 'supervisor' senior dog- and the entire place is filled with happy and contented animals. GREAT place- I trust them implicitly- they are a part of the rescue movement and very conscientious about those that they are fortunate enough to work with and adopt out. The BEST!
