We just adopted two adult cats who are doing well thanks to the good care they received at Rbari.

I believe the pet adoption policies are just too strict. Ive seen the same dogs on petfinder for months with different excuses for why they cant adopt them out. When I originally applied i accidentally listed my moms dog and a spayed cat I had for a few months, because I didnt have vet info I was denied. Then determined to be a first time pet owner and denied again. I admit the establishment is professional but it seems they're only interested in giving animals to specific types of people which I believe is sad because its the animals that suffer for human bias.

Dropped off assorted cat food and treats. They always seem to care about the animals that they look after.

This review took me a while to write because I had to do some investigating to figure out what went wrong and quite frankly I'm traumatized. I adopted my dog from here in 2017. She's amazing, I love her, but I was told she was DOG FRIENDLY. This dog is the complete opposite of dog friendly. She is the most dog aggressive dog I have ever met. RBARI had this dog in their possession for 7 DAYS and decided it was wise to DETERMINATELY state that this dog was dog friendly when they hadn't properly tested her. Now I can't have her around any of the dogs in my family and it is a significant stresser in our lives. Very disappointed that they mislead me. ** In response to RBARI's comment, I did email as soon as I got her, right after they made their automatic follow up phone call, but I got no response. I'm currently working with another shelter network on training.

7/2019 - I have been training and competing with dogs for over 20 years. I love the fact that this rescue made the decision to place with me based on all of the information and without prejudice up front. I currently have three dogs from reputable breeders, this last is my first rescue. Not because I haven’t wanted to get a dog from a rescue previously, but because either the right dog didn’t come along or, many times, I was rejected because I had an intact dog in the house, or because I wanted a small dog when my other dogs were larger, etc... insert reason here... RBARI made the process easy. Thank You! Update 8/7/21 - My RBARI rescue is doing great and living his BEST life. Still thankful to RBARI.

Terrible website: this organization really needs an experienced web designer. You've got to wonder how many people have turned away because it's so unprofessionally done and so difficult to use.

The cleanest, most organized shelter I've seen in my 40 years of adopting. The staff is very kind and even took my PTSD into consideration. I can't thank them enough for helping me find my new best friend. I can smile again.

$300 yo rescue a dog? That's outrageous not to mention all the dogs they had were very unhealthy looking and some of them even bite They want this huge application and all this but its definitely not worth it

Unbelievably dedicated staff and volunteers who would do anything for the animals they save!

I can't praise this shelter enough. The staff are excellent, the facilities are clean and well-maintained, and they have social distancing down cold. We live in NYC and there are waiting lists at every local shelter. Like so many other people, we decided to add a new pet during the pandemic. We had gotten a previous cat at this shelter 10+ years ago, so we called and made an appointment. We got one pretty quickly, and the process to park, go inside, and go up to the second floor where the cats are kept was very easy. The woman who helped us out was very patient with us and showed us all of the kittens. We fell in love with one kitten and took him home the same day. Follow-up appointments were fast and easy. Support this shelter and go there if you want a new family member!

we rescued a dog here 9 years ago and she is now very ill and elderly and at the end of her life. she woke up throwing up blood clots this morning and my mom who was very stressed and anxious, rushed her to rbari when our vet said they couldnt see her until later in the day because she didnt know where else to go in the moment. rbari said that if we decided to have them help her/take care of her it would be considered “surrender” and we would NOT be allowed with her while they euthanized her. are you kidding? you claim to be animal advocates but refuse a family to be around our dog that we rescued from you 9 years ago while you euthanize her? but you will gladly accept a “surrender fee” we didnt want to surrender her, we just needed help since she was throwing up blood clots and is extremely weak and elderly. thankfully my mom got her out of there and we are taking her to a humane facility that will allow 2 family members present. disgusted. shame on you. never again.

Google asked me for this and I'm not mad. I remember I adopted my dog here years ago and it was a great experience. The staff was great, they helped with every question we had and they never gave up on finding our new family member. If it was possible for a 6/5 stars I'd give it.

Nothing but positive experiences with this shelter. I'm currently in the process of adopting my cat Mooch (fostering him for now) and they have been nothing but supportive throughout it all. I'm able to text any questions/concerns I have with him, and staff member Dani gets back to me immediately. Just like all of their staff, she is patient, kind, and wonderful !! My sister has adopted from this shelter as well, years ago, and has told me how wonderful they are. It really is a great shelter. Thank you for all you do !!

We adopted two kittens that were fostered for four weeks. They were incredibly socialized and well taken of by the foster parent and Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge. We picked them up after they were neutered, and the personnel were so nice, caring and loving of all the animals. Highly recommended. They are being trained to be therapy cats so they can visit hospitals, etc.
