Our experience with Muddy Paws has been beyond terrible. Things started out great - we submitted our application, had our interview, and met our dog virtually. One challenge with the organization is the extreme time pressure placed on things - we were forced to say yes/no to adopting the dog within minutes of the interview, and were then told we had 24 hours to pick her up. We were unable to visit the dog in person due to covid protocols (even outside). We made them aware of our family, including two young children. We were given detailed personality of the dog, which proved very inaccurate. Within 3 hours of being in our home, the dog had drawn blood with bites and our two children would not leave their rooms for fear of the dog. Within 3 hours of adopting her we contacted both the foster family and muddy paws to take her back, noting that we are not an appropriate or safe home for the pet. Muddy Paws has been very slow to respond / address our concerns - if we were a single couple I'd understand, but ultimately this is not a safe situation for our children and they seem like they could care less about this. The prior foster family refused to take the dog back (I assume they realized there were issues they hid from us). I've lived with dogs my whole life - ultimately we trusted that the dog we were matched with would be safe for children as Muddy paws and the foster family suggested, but this has not been the case. Now we are stuck with a dog that we cannot care for, with no ability to return her and no recourse to find another home for her. I would highly suggest never adopting or fostering a dog from Muddy Paws especially if you have young children. We are posting this to warn other families and also in the hope that Muddy Paws will contact us so we can resolve this issue.

I worked with muddy paws to adopt coconut. He was a perfect fit into our family. The foster parent helped acclimate coconut so well we had a seamless transition. The staff are so helpful and pay such attention to detail. It shows in how well they match pets to family. I was never a fan of buying from breeders. This is why you should ADOPT NOT SHOP. When you find the perfect pal thru adoption with the help of a great organization like muddy paws

This organization leaves a lot to be desired. After going through the screening and approval process and putting in a request for a specific dog which had yet to be posted, this organization went and posted the dog and allowed the dog to be adopted by people who had not even met the dog in person. I did not even receive the courtesy of communication from the foster mom or the organization. Correction: I did receive a terse text informing me that the dog had been adopted. Nice....real nice. This is the condensed version of this tale, but I would suggest avoiding this mismanaged organization at all costs. May I suggest using a breeder? It may cost you, but at least you will not be jerked around.

As with all the other foster, rescue and adoption places out there right now there's a significant backlog. It's been very discouraging trying to go through the adoption process. If you're not in a rush you should hold off. I haven't heard back from any of the places I've applied for. It's a black box process right now.

More responsive than other rescues I've contacted (especially by email) and they're always concerned with the bests interest of the pets.

Muddy Paws (MP) is a wonderful place. They don’t turn away any animal and they genuinely care about re-homing to responsible people who have the capacity to care for them. Further, they help animal owners in crisis who are sometimes multiple states away. I love this place and they have the utmost support from me. Give if you can, adopt if you can.

I don’t believe there is a more awesomely supportive rescue in NYC. Muddy Paws goes above and beyond in every single way. If you’re looking to adopt, foster, or even just volunteer, Muddy Paws is the rescue to do it with.

Muddy Paws Rescue is a fantastic organization that caters to and rescues dogs, finding them loving forever homes. The volunteers really care about their work and the pups they place with families. I truly recommend them for anyone looking to adopt.

If you are hoping to adopt a healthy dog from this place, I would recommend reconsidering. I adopted my sweet boy from Muddy Paws in October this year and my dog was given a clean bill of health and the records to prove it. However, within three months and over $4K in vet expenses later, I have certainly learned that is not the case. My dog had a few signs of health issues that were communicated to the team when I was fostering him, including a cough he got medication for and a lack of appetite that is unusual for his breed. I was told “Blood work was deemed unnecessary at the time, since it was likely his appetite was from having CIRDC”. I am sorry, but “likely” isn’t good enough. How can you give me a clean bill of health without administrating blood work to confirm? I have visited three vets and each were shocked to learn he never got standard blood work while with the rescue program. Only after I signed the adoption papers did my dog undergo proper medical testing which included 3 urinalyses, blood work, x-rays and ultrasounds. I have now learned that my dog has a chronic medical condition that will not only require lifelong medication, but also surgery potentially as well. When I reached out to Muddy Paws about the astronomical vet expenses I’ve incurred just from testing alone, I was told they want to “help in any way they can”, but can’t do anything about the vet expenses since I already signed the papers. I love my dog and wouldn’t trade him for the world, but I would have never signed the adoption papers had I known of his medical issues prior. While I admit that the Muddy Paws staff is very friendly and responsive — be wary of this organization and be sure they pay for a vet checkup by YOUR personal vet before signing any papers.

My family is exceedingly grateful to Muddy Paws Rescue for having guided us in the adoption process of our wonderful rescue pup. They were extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and willing to take time to talk to us at length about the dog we ended up adopting. They made the process quick and easy for us while maintaining an extremely high level of diligence and responsibility.

We partnered with Muddy Paws Rescue to host a small adoption event. The volunteers were very pleasant and really passionate about the animals. The dogs were very well trained and just lovely to be around. One of our own fell in love with one of the dogs at the event and went through with the adoption process on the spot. We are very happy to know that she was cared for the wonderful people of Muddy Paws and that she now has a lovely forever home. We will certainly be looking forward to hosting future events with them and supporting their cause.

Very frustrating and unreliable. It feels like a form of bait and switch (however unintentional). After completing my application and reference review, EVERY TIME I asked about a posted dog I was told that the “dog was adopted yesterday.” Really?
