I had to put my cat to sleep and these folks were courteous, professional, and compassionate. They made a hard day a little bit easier for all. I wish they could have been my regular vet.

Refused to help my sick dog because I didn’t have $1,300 just for sedating, and said the price would just keep adding up because that was JUST for the sedation there was nothing they could do for me. I Waited in the room for over an hour without them looking at him or anything, just for them to tell me they can’t help my dog. And to send me home with my sick dog unless I go get sedation meds from another vet but come back to this one. Absolutely ridiculous and a waste of time. They simply were heartless over the fact my dog is in pain and needs help. It was clear that they didn’t care about me or my animals well-being. They only care about how much money they can take out of you each visit. Will make sure that everyone in this areas goes to a different vet rather than losing their animals life.

All they care about is money not your animals and they make that clear to you. I will never go back here again. Worst vet I’ve ever been to.

I took my cat here for an emergent health issue recently, and after he was taken back for examination I was left waiting with no update about his condition for over 2 hours. I tried to go to the front desk to get an update multiple times, but no one was there. My friend and I were the only people at the clinic that night, and it was almost 2 am when I finally heard from a technician about the status of my cat’s health (after opening a door that said “employees only” to try to find someone to update us). The staff was very friendly, but the customer service was lacking, especially considering care for a well-loved pet. I spent over $1k that night, and would at least hope for more customer service than that.

Our dog, Lily, had a scheduled c-section at a vet in Concord and almost died. The vets gave her to me and she was hanging on to life by a thread. We drove to CAVES and Dr. Woo Sam and his team acted quickly to restore the immense amount of blood that was lost due to a suture that was no longer in tact along the base of the uterus. She received a blood transfusion and round the clock care. I am eternally grateful for the kindness and expertise of Dr. Woo San. He had a plan instantly, explained it throughly to us. We would not have Lily if it was not for the quick response of this team. We also have 6 healthy puppies thanks to their guidance of how to care for them while Lily was receiving treatment and recovering I am a pre-Veterinary student at Penn State. I was privileged to work with an amazing staff of Vets in Pennsylvania before I moved north. I have seen the good, bad, and ugly and what I can tell you is, this staff was professional, empathetic, and listened to my concerns. I wish there was a way to give an even higher review. Sincerest of thanks to CAVES.

I first visited with a stray cat that had recently been hit by a car and I brought in after I stopped and discovered it still had a heartbeat. I was so impressed by the empathy that the entire staff showed even though situations like these are unfortunately likely common for them. I had to go in again last night after my dog ate an entire raw pizza and was once again impressed by the compassion and empathy that everyone (front desk, techs, vet) demonstrated. I was especially impressed by the veterinarian who was not only kind, knowledgeable, and capable but the least pretentious doc I've ever met. We never once felt judged or silly for our questions. Although we obviously hope we won't need to come back soon, it's so nice knowing that there are such capable people close by! Thank you, thank you, thank you and if you ever decide to take non emergency patients, we'll be the first ones to sign up!

My one year-old Shepherd August used to love the vet he would walk in all confident and I would always get good feedback until we came to caves the lady that handled him was very obviously scared of him and would not go near him and was shaking. I am not sure what happened in there but when I got him back he was so scared and now when we go to the vet he hovers in fear at the door. I DO NOT RECOMMEND CAVES and never will after this experience.

caves reckless care cost my 2 beloved pets to have to be put down. 2 different times now. I now cant forgive myself for bringing them there but they are the only animal hospital in concord and I don't have a car. I then found out that VCA Capital Area Veterinary Emergency and Specialty was owned by the mars company. yes the company that makes candy bars and other numerous products this explains why they were asking and hounding us for money all the time we were there. the money was more of a concern to them then my pets health. they put more effort in bill collecting then in vet care. yes I had the money with me I even told them you can wait for your money when I passed the desk to go into the exam room and was asked if i was going to pay the bill when my dog wasn't even done yet. I was not allowed to even witness the care my pet was receiving all done behind closed doors in secret. we asked to see her and was told we could not go in back or even look through the window to see anything. if they had nothing to hide and are so transparent why don't they have a room with a window that you can observe the care they are providing to your pet. you just to have to take their word for everything they say. I like to see what I am being charged for. yes I was charged a huge bill but don't feel I was given my moneys worth in the care my pet received since it was all done out of my sight. and in the end I still had to put my pet down to add to there huge bill already. in fact my pet only took a turn for the worse AFTER I signed there bill then after they added euthanasia and cremation to that bill later. Never bring your beloved pet to this greedy money making business. mars corp. remember that. rude uncaring techs that are over confident and very under experienced. that don't get paid much.

I want to be clear my five star review is from My visit on Sunday 10/17/21. I brought my cat diesel in on Wednesday the 13th at about 3am after he woke up with coughing, gagging and raspy breathing, he was lethargic and very much not acting like himself. So we drove 30 mins to caves to get him help. After a chest xray we were told there was no foreign objects and that most likely it was asthma because he's overweight. Diesel is not obese, yes he's he's little chunky , but not dangerously so he's just been sneaking kitten food for a few months ????. While I understand weight can cause health issues it was very clearly not acute onset asthma overnight accompanied by a fever. Even after mentioning we just adopted a kitten that had a uri and maybe diesel got that from him? we were charged 500+ dollars and dismissed. We took him home and 4 days later his breathing is no better , he is absolutely miserable and his eye was goey and crusted shut, with a higher fever than before.Thankfully we got the best care on Sunday from the greatest vet tech Angelique, who truly cared about the well being of my baby and addressed every concern and issue we were dealing with. she gets a 10/10. Dr. Matthew DelGrosso was very informative and helpful and didn't make us feel like we were over reacting. The two of them made this stressful visit so much smoother and easier. I will definately be back in the future ????

I will not be able to say enough great things about Dr. Del Grosso and the staff that worked 8/30 & 8/31 and put up with Lena & Crazy Lena Mom. Thank you for taking my 5:30 AM call that Friday and thank you for seeing her right away that morning and following up with her throughout the weekend. I brought Lena my golden in early on a Friday with a variety of symptoms and the staff took such great care of her (and me...) until there was a diagnosis but most importantly a plan to make her better! Within 48 hours Lena was back to her barky self and on the road to recovery. The one thing I want to point out is, even though this was an ER and they are obviously very busy, they followed up throughout the weekend to check up on Lena which brought a lot of comfort to me. They were able to see her right away, triage her right away, and the doctor came in within 20 minutes to tell me what would be happening. Overall expectations exceeded! Thank you VCA staff!

Well I understand it's an emergency room and some patients are more urgent than others. They made my 19 year old cat, who hadn't eaten in 4 days, wait 5 HOURS. Not only that but they made us wait 5 hours to tell us that she's dying. How is a dying cat not a higher priority? I know I can't see everything, but I saw dogs who looked happy, wagging their tails, and jumping around go in before my cat. This is the second time I've been made to wait hours. My other cat ripped her claw off and was bleeding, but apparently that wasn't important either since she had to wait 4 hours.

It's Labor Day weekend and my dog is injured and bleeding. I have already tried 5 other veterinary hospitals nearer to me with the same response at each. We are full to capacity we can't help you. I drove an hour away to VCA with the assurance that they would at the very least triage my dog and go from there. Everyone was wonderful from the woman on the phone to the triage nurse. . when it was time to leave I was reassured Nala my dog would be ok and I can honestly say I'm putting their phone number down for emergencies. This veterinary hospital is exceptional amazing.

Brought our 15 year old dog Wyatt that was having complications. Very thorough diagnosis and exploration of all options. Explained everything in relatable terms.

The staff is very friendly and professional! They did a good job handling my grumpy boy. They went into detail of his treatment plan and options we have. I’ve always recommended caves and always will!

My dog had an emergency medical event last week and my experience at the VCA was horrendous. I called my primary care vet and she asked me to take my dog to the ER because he was having a severe allergic reaction. We arrived at VCA, answered a few questions in triage, and were told to wait for about 2 hours. After 2 hours passed, I kept asking the staff if there was anything they could do for my dog in the interim, if they had updates on the timing, etc. but I was met with rude, condescending, and generally sour responses. After 4.5 hours without any medical attention, I called my primary care vet in tears after watching my dog's allergic reaction (swelling of the face) progress. She stayed late and kept her clinic open late so my dog could receive the care that he needed that day. VCA failed us tremendously and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

I ended up at CAVES for my dog when I didn't hear back from my normal vet and spent 2.5 hours the night before at another emergency vet (with still another couple hours wait). Quite a few people on Facebook recommended CAVES to me. I only ended up waiting about an hour after they did the initial assessment - which gave me time to sit outside at their picnic table under a huge tree with my dog. From the time we walked in, everyone was really great. Very caring and took the time to explain what was going on with my dog. Unfortunately, he had thyroid cancer, and it was causing him to have a harder time breathing. He was 13.5 years old, so I made the tough decision to put him down. They gave me plenty of time with him and never made me feel rushed. They explained everything to me and gave me all the options. I would absolutely go back here in a heartbeat (although, hopefully I never have to :) ). They even sent me a really nice sympathy card. Thank you for taking the time to care for my dog. It means more than you know.

Very nice people. We were given an appointment time on a weekend which was great. We got there, an hour drive they told us that they couldn't see our dog for 6 to 7 hours and they'd call us. Not trying to be rude, but why have us drive all the way there? So we got an appointment for the next morning somewhere else. Thank you anyway

These people were awesome. We brought my cat in after he was hit by a car, and they did a great job repairing his injuries, and they were great with the humans, too! Explained everything very well and were calm and sympathetic and kind. Thank you!

I was referred by our primary vet because they specialize in the type of surgery that was required to treat urinary tract obstruction in dogs. The staff was expecting us and got us in immediately. What they may find was explained as well as the procedures they may need to take. ROSCOE was in surgery that afternoon. The staff was professional and responsive- sending text updates during his stay. Thank you to the staff and doctors that treated ROSCOE. He is back to his energetic strong self and can't wait to get off his leash walks.

Very very poor communication. I understand it's an ER, you can't expect an exact time of when you will be seen BUT is it too much to ask to be kept in the loop? Originally told and an hour as one dog was ahead of me and you never know with emergency rooms....2 hours later, somehow there's still one dog ahead of me....3 hours same thing....4 hours same thing... in all this time I'm watching the door and cars, and only a 2 times I saw (from a pedestrians view) what appeared to be emergencies, where the individuals were in and out quickly... if there were 3 doctors on staff AND nurses... idk this may just doesnt add up that I was continually 1 person ahead of me. after 4 hours I call another emergency vet (South New Hampshire in Manchester). They communicated very well and kept me updated with what was going on. I understand the staff is working, see a bunch of pups, and they don't worry about my dog as much as I do; but I don't know why they can't do me the respect of understanding that to me (an unknowing pedestrian) I'm VERG stressed out about my dogs situation and give me more information.

Unfortunately my cat was very sick and I had to make the decision to euthanize him last night. I was calling so many emergency hospitals, vets etc. and none of them were helping me since I did not have the money upfront to treat my cat for what he had. I finally was able to talk to such a sweet and caring person over the phone here. Her name is Vivian (i think that is how you spell it) but she was so amazing and extremely helpful especially with the fact that she knew i didn’t have the money to help my baby boy. They took him in anyways because they didn’t want him in pain anymore. It did come to the part where euthanizing him was the best option at that point. They gave us enough time to say good bye to mr jack and we’re very sincere the whole time I was there. The doctor who gave him the shot was very nice as well. Thank you everyone who was there last night who comforted and helped us. And thank you especially to Vivian, you can tell she truly cares about your animals well being. Extremely thankful for her.

I would give less stars if possible, it is now 1310 and we are leaving the parking lot with nothing but a fecal exam for parvo which we already had let them know was done by the breeder and a vet prior to this visit. This would not have infuriating if we had ANY other tests since pulling in at 945 or any sort of communication about the delay being this severe however after multiple phone calls spaced over an hour out each time I decided to go in to gather some sort of ETA and all I got was do I think it will be within the hour “probably not” with NO EMPATHY NO UNDERSTANDING NO COMPASSION. I seriously will never refer a single soul to this place for how unreasonably unprofessional and unreliable they were and now will be taking my puppy to a different urgent care.

My Hedgehog started having bloody discharge which is very concerning, and there really aren't many Exotic vets in our area. I was a freaked out pet mom and got her to the vet as soon as i realized there was a problem. they got her in long before the quoted wait time, they were able to do a full exam and ultrasound on her (hedgie parents know they're not always the easiest to work with) they got me out of there with medication and a referral to a new primary vet so i could get her a more thorough evaluation to determine if surgery was needed. they were fantastic with us, and even better with piggy, she left just as happy as she was when we came in, they handled her so well. Huge thank you to these ladies who helped my girl out❤️

I just had my black lab at CAVES. She was critically ill. The staff was absolutely fabulous! I cannot say enough good things about Dr Butterworth. From the moment she stepped into the exam room, she showed extreme empathy. Her professional, calm, quiet demeanor was very reassuring. She tried to balance providing exceptional veterinary care with recognizing our need for watching the costs of Izzie’s care. She did that with empathy, and she treated our dog with such compassion. Unfortunately, our dog did not survive, but while we were with her at the end of her life, the techs were so wonderful with Izzie and with us. Again, Dr Butterworth was there and was so sweet. She had such a gentle touch with Izz, and she tended to our emotional needs. I highly recommend CAVES.
