I recently took my pet here after Blue Pearl turned me away (Covid-related staffing issues, presumably), and my experience was amazing! I could call and check on him any time of day or night, all of my questions were answered thoroughly, and the staff was absolutely amazing! The staff was extremely caring. I'll be happy to return there to have them care for any of my pets.

We brought our dog in at 1am on Thursday and the doctor didn’t do blood work on her, but rather just gave her a nausea shot. She wasn’t any better the next day, so we called and told them that; the hospital said to wait 24-48 hours and the front desk even asked the vet there at the time what we should do. Our dog passed away on Friday. Please proceed with caution when using this hospital.

We were greeted and seen quickly by friendly staff. The important details about our pet were followed and quickly relayed to the doctor. The waiting area is clean a spacious. Services were fast and efficient. Although Prescriptions were MUCH pricier than they should have been, they were filled during the visit; therefore we were relieved that there was no delay in getting started with the care my pet needed that same evening. We felt it was worth the drive.

We brought our dog in around 11:15am New Years Eve day. Our dog was very I’ll, almost septic. They admitted him to stay. The first day they Gave him glucose and fluids, X-ray and did blood work. We waited hours for them to call we a update, but they never called. We called them, the front desk was apologetic for no one calling us with results or a plan or and idea with what was going on. They recommended an ultrasound so he stayed the night. The next day was New Year’s Day. After not hearing from them all night we called them early in the morning and they informed us that no one was going to be available to do the ultrasound. The sign says 24 hours seven days a week emergency services. Our dog was no better no one ever called to keep us informed we had to keep calling them. Very unhappy with the communication. The day after New Year’s we finally decided to go get our dog and make plans with our Vet for Monday. Spent $2700 and have no answers. Not to mention when we called we were told no news is good news. We needed a doctor to call communicate their opinion. I guess on the holidays they really aren’t a 24/7 facility.

I would highly recommend this establishment for your pets. I brought my dog here on New Years Day as an emergency and they were so compassionate. While my dog was hospitalized, they did a phenomenal job keeping me informed as well.

Night staff was wonderful. Day staff was great also with the exception of one front desk woman (that is the reason for one star deduction). I had issues with the billing, but the office manager was very professional and handled the issue when I called and spoke with her the following day. The surgery was extremely expensive but I expected it when going to an emergency vet. MUCH better than Blue Pearl Emergency Vet for cost and customer service skills.

Negligent staff. Poor staff communication and bedside manner. Dirty facility. They let my dog bleed out for 6 hours and then said she needed a blood transfusion for blood loss. I took her to the ER because SHE WAS BLEEDING. I waited 5.5 hours to see a doctor. On the phone they said it was a 15 minute wait. If this wasn't my only option on Christmas Day, i would have gone anywhere else. The day and night staff don't commnunicate. They say you can call and check on your animal anytime but they don't check at all. We were told to call back later twice. They lie or deceive about how often your pet gets checked and that's not the nurse staffs fault. They get checked just not by a doctor. They're just keeping the animals "not completely dead" back there because the vets are working with too many animals. When they give you an ETA OF WHEN the vet will contact you, it is an absolute joke. They charge exorbitant amounts for doing absolutely nothing but petsitting while nothing is communicated. That's my impression. The lobby is dirty and filled with empty cups and trash. Used and half full coffee mugs on every surface. I know the trash in the lobby or the bathroom didn't get picked up for at least 24 hours because I was there for so long. The front desk staff has no idea what is going on except when taking your money. They are not nice about questions and their answers are vague and condescending. They're awful at data input... Maybe check with the client to go over it so you can iterate information back. That makes your client feel "heard" at least. I mean did anyone train this staff on managing expectations or diffusing situations other than hiding people in dirty rooms to wait for undisclosed hours?? They had my contact information, my name and my dogs name incorrectly listed. Thank goodness I checked. They dismissive when I had questions. They also weirdly wore masks on their chins and not everyone wore masks. If you're going to wear mask just wear it. You also dont have to wear it in most places. There's no mandate in this area. It was just weird. So if masking was a staff policy, they clearly didnt enforce it and if they neglect even that, what else are they not taking seriously? Why wear it on your chin? Honestly, if they had a decent office manager, I feel like this would be more put together but it's a dumpster fire. The front staff said a doctor would call between 8-9am and the doctor doesn't actualy come in until 8am and has to check on everyone. Fine. Just communicate that correctly. The doctor is supposed to call after rounds. I mean when your expecting a call at 830 and you dont get one until noon, you'd freak out too. And then I find out my dog won't recieve care until the afternoon because there's one vet for 2 hospitals??? The vet we spoke to last night shrugged more than she gave answers. The day staff gave more information today but also dismissed our concerns. She tried to give me a lesson on statistics. I understand statistics. If I knew her chances, or if the initial vet could have given me more statistical information it would be easier. I would have made a more informed decision on my pet's care. If I'm paying this much money, my vet better know the pertinent information!! If I knew I would be paying an extra 2.5 grand to find out my dog had a 50/50 chance to last for 6 months of being in pain? I wish that would have been communicated. Poor poor communication. Shame on you. If you LOVE your animal, go somewhere else. Update: I wish I would have taken her somewhere else. Used and half full coffee mugs on every surface. I know the trash in the lobby or the bathroom didn't get picked up for at least because I was there for so long.

I could not recommend this facility more for emergency and specialty care for your fur babies! Our baby Wilson had 3 surgeries with Dr. Allen and they treated him like family, he is happier and healthier than ever thanks to Overland Park Veterinary Emergency and Specialty!

We had a Christmas Day emergency and even though the wait was long (which was completely expected since it was a holiday), we were just so thankful for all those who volunteered their time to help on Christmas and get our baby girl seen. They were kind and treated us with respect and kept us updated the whole time as to what was happening and the expected wait time. Thank you all so much for treating both us and our girl so well.

The staff was very responsive and caring. They took excellent care of my pup. They also sent a report to my regular vet which is very much appreciated.

We brought our dog from Springfield to this emergency clinic near Kansas City after a catastrophic accident where she jumped from a bridge while on a hike and fell 15 or 20 feet onto rocks. Our local vet was able to stabilize and sedate her for transport, but we NEEDED a board-certified surgeon for her IMMEDIATELY. The poor thing has five broken ribs, and her right femur is totally splintered (KC Chiefs fans, think Alex Smith’s broken leg). The staff was great and answered all of our questions, and Dr. Allen was able to perform surgery four days later—the wait was due to lacerations in her lungs from the broken ribs that could have been deathly during anesthesia, but in the interim they kept her calm, on pain medication, tapped her chest to get rid of air build-up outside the lungs, and allowed us to visit her. The surgery went well, and after another couple of days of observation, they were able to send her home. There’s still a long and arduous road to recovery that will take around six months, but they gave her excellent care and literally saved her life.

Very thorough and professional during a very heartbreaking episode. Kept in contact with us at home as things unfolded through the night. Respectful of our decisions and sensitive to our feelings.

Okay, I get that we're all going through a rough time right now. Some of us are just barely getting by. And I like to think I've got a fair amount of patience, and have reasonable expectations. But after being sent here with our very sick dog when Blue Pearl was at capacity, we were met with two young women who seemed very uncaring. When I told them the situation with my pet, one of them pointed to the clipboard on the counter and asked us to fill it out. I was hopeful they would see my pet soon, because the wait room was completely empty. But as we were walking to sit down, one of the desk clerks casually shouts, "Oh, by the way, it's a 4-6 hour wait." I admit, I blurted in shock, "Are you JOKING?!" I couldn't believe it. An empty wait room. A nearly empty parking lot. And the wait time was 4-6 hours?! The desk clerk straightened the pens on the desk and said, "Yes. Since Blue Pearl is at capacity . . ." Or something along those lines. I was absolutely floored and I didn't really hear what she said after the first few words. I couldn't believe a facility with an empty wait room that had the word "emergency" in it's title had a 4-6 hour wait. After leaving, we called a veterinarian administrator friend and she recommended "MU Veterinary Health Center at Kansas City." We took him up there and our dog was seen immediately. One hour later we had to put him down due to a twisted stomach. I can't even rate the medical capabilities of this facility because we never got past the waiting room. Heck, the automatic door didn't even work to the front room. I think everyone hopes to never need an emergency facility with their pet, but given our experiences today, I hope we never need this facility in particular.

Quick service that worked seamlessly with my local Veterinary clinic to treat my pet. Very polite front staff that moved patience efficiently and great communication and updates from the Doctors and techs.

Extreme overcharge, 3 times the amount of a regular vet. I understand that it is an emergency/specialty clinic, but with the over charge on diagnostics/treatment makes you just want to put your fur baby to sleep for good as it way too expensive. Although the doctor was great of providing medication that could help my fur baby, but the nurse was hard headed and tried many times to push for procedures that were expensive. What a shame that a this place cares more about money than the health of a pet.

My experience with the vet on duty, Sunday, Nov 21, 2021 was NOT pleasant. I recently had my dog at K state for the same situation weeks earlier and being that I had an issue at 8 pm on a Sunday night, I did not want to make the 2 hr drive back to Manhattan so I opted for the Overland Park Veterinary Emergency vet 30 min away. This vet seemed to go out of her way to fear monger and create a situation of emotional response to push decisions that were way too expensive. She also pushed euthanasia versing trying to help. The flip side was recommending a chest tap (which I did agree to to give me time to figure out my next option) but she also wanted to do x-rays and an overnight stay for observation that would have cost $1600-$1800. When I did not agree with the recommendation, I had to sign 2 different forms saying I wasn't going along with her recommendations (the 2nd time was before they would release my dog back to me) and the I was also asked to sign off on a CPR/DNR in case things went south. NONE of these things were asked of me at the K State emergency hospital. I just have a sour taste in my mouth with the experience I had in Overland Park and it just seemed to lack compassion or warmth. It was a total 180 experience to the care and compassion I experienced at K State given the circumstances.

Highly recommend this place. The vet and staff were fantastic. We took our dog there to be euthanized and it was a very calm, comfortable environment. We were given amble time to say good-bye to our precious dog.-

I have been twice to this emergency vet in the last six months. Once was on a Saturday during the day and the other time was at 2 in the morning on a Tuesday. Both times the staff and care was perfect. Thankfully neither time was extremely urgent but care helped ease my dogs symptoms and gave me peace of mind. I am so thankful they were open and able to take care of my dogs and for a reasonable rate.

I was a wreck worried about my dog when i showed up at the ER. The staff were very calming and compassionate. Dr. Mitchell took time to explain everything in detail, was very responsive and patient with me in my panic. She asked me point blank what she could say to make me feel more comfortable and that helped immensely. The front staff we so sweet to my dog when i picked him up after his procedure and were giving him lots of cuddles and treats. Thank you so much for taking care of my baby and making me feel reassured about leaving him in your care during a very stressful event.

We took in our 18.5 year old dachshund after midnight thinking we were going to be letting him go. The staff there was very friendly and saw us quickly. The veterinarian was very thorough and honest with us about his level of health and longevity. We left there with some antibiotics, pain medication and our little old man with our fingers crossed he lasts through the holidays.

They took very good care of my pet and did a thorough examination of her. The vet - Dr. Grigsby - was wonderful in explaining my pets condition and extending care and follow up for her.

We were able to get help right way with our dog and they were very professional and helpful. We were given our own private room to wait in until we talked with a doctor. Everything was very clean and sanitized. I would definitely take my dog back again if needed.

Unfortunately, I was not over the top impressed. Our pup Unfortunately cut himself on accident, and when we walked in the door we didn't get an empathetic "Can you tell us what happened?", we were met with "Well is it a dog bite?". At 10:30pm when we show up with a Pit mix, that question felt deliberate and unnecessary. Then, without explaining what would happen, our pup was taken to the back and not one of us were allowed to go with. When the vet finally came to talk with us (after the tech just came out and gave us the ace wrap we used to try to stop the bleeding, with no explanation) the Vet was awkward and again in a flat voice, asked us how this happened. My dogs are like kids to me, I was in tears and distraught, feeling I had let my pup down. The only kind staff seemed to be the desk clerks. When I finally got pup back 6 hrs later, I paid $1k, the stitches looked absolutely botched and the cut area didn't look cleaned out. Maybe I'm spoiled by my home town Vet, but probably not returning here unless I have to. I felt it was overpriced and lacking empathy. I work in Healthcare, and I know you have to assess each situation, but there is a level of tact to remember. My pit mix is the sweetest dog I've ever met and doesn't even growl or bark, and our house has kids, cats and another dog.

I took my cat here with a broken pelvis in rough shape, possibly hit by a car. It was determined that she needed surgery. The risks, benefits, full cost, and expected outcome were communicated clearly before the surgery, and we made a well-informed choice to do surgery. The final cost was exactly what I was told it would be, and the surgeon, Dr. Allen, kept in great communication with me during the process. I can't speak for the value compared to other facilities, but the cost seemed fair and, given our results, was definitely worth it. She was prescribed sufficient post-op pain medication and has experienced no complications. Dr. Allen seemed to care about her, and seemed excited at her follow-up appointment about her remarkable recovery. He explained that her limp would improve once her leg got stronger again, and he was right. It's now about 10 weeks since surgery, and she not only walks well, but I can barely tell anything ever happened. I would take my animals here again, but I hope I never have to!

We took our dog here after he passed away since Blue Pearl was at capacity. I felt like they weren't very empathetic during a time that was very sad for us. The front desk staff seemed to be just going through the motions of a business transaction without showing any compassion or acknowledging how hard this was for us. Even picking up the ashes felt cold...with the front desk staff not even saying sorry for our loss after handing us the box retrieved from behind the counter among many other visible boxes. I get that they may be immune to this after doing it day after day, but encourage training around empathy, communication and compassion knowing how people feel when they are about to lose or have just lost a furry family member. I'm sure the veterinary staff is great and this is likely limited to the front desk and perhaps due to covid staffing challenges. However, we won't be returning unless we have to, and hope this feedback helps them improve so another family can be spared some unnecessary pain.

Absolutely horrible experience. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. In all fairness the woman at the desk was absolutely wonderful and very kind, along with the vet tech. However there was a total lack in communication between all of the employees and I felt I was not being listened to and had to repeat myself several times over on multiple occasions. I also had the vet literally shout at me and berate me over differing opinions on a completely unrelated topic which had no bearing on my pet's emergency medical needs, which was completely unprofessional. I appreciated how the vet went over each test and medication they planned to use, along with prices ahead of time, however when I expressed concern over a medication that I felt was not necessary, the vet seemingly became irritated with me, and the entire visit was very uncomfortable and felt like a me vs them situation instead of us working together as a team to help my dog. Then, after dropping off a urine sample and waiting half an hour in the lobby, the vet came out and asked if I had gotten the sample yet. When I explained that I dropped it off a half hour earlier, she disappeared and returned with the results another 20 minutes later, and then made me wait another half hour to write the prescription. I don't know what's going on at this place, but the lack of communication between staff and the total lack of professionalism by the vet made this one of the worst vet experiences in my 30+ years of dog ownership.

Exceptional vet care. Our dog was in an automobile accident and thrown into a window with the air bag deploying. They triaged him immediately and gave him a thorough exam with appropriate testing. They explained the results of testing and findings. The price was even affordable. We were very happy with their care! I recommend this clinic absolutely!
