You can’t claim to be an emergency vet but then not accept an emergency because the pet hasn’t been there before, makes it significantly more difficult for people who need to see a vet

Update: Thank you so much for listening, we went and he barely had any! You guys rock. Have a wonderful day! ???? I have told this vet numerous times to please lay off the treats with my dog when he’s getting checked, he gets sick EVERY time from eating way too much and they won’t listen!! I hope this will help them understand. Otherwise, it’s a good vet!

I've been bringing my senior dog here for basically his entire life and my overall experience has been above and beyond until these past couple of years. They'd mix up his prescriptions and their system doesn't always show his health record. There were several times I attempted to make an appointment and the receptionist would tell me they are booked for an entire month (they are always booked), but mentioned they would call me back after they speak with the technicians to see if they could fit me into their schedule. I never received the calls so I had to switch to a different vet considering my dog requires more attentive care than ever.

I had an appointment scheduled for my dog with one of the veterinarians for yesterday (Friday). They called me a week ago to reschedule it with a different vet for today (Saturday). I got a confirmation call yesterday and a confirmation text message yesterday. I confirmed "yes" I'll be there. I arrived at the appointment today and was told I was not on the schedule. They told me the veterinarian my dog was rescheduled with was not even on the schedule for the day. I asked them if my dog could still be seen because I had driven 40 minutes and had confirmed I'd be there. They said my dog could not be seen but I could reschedule for Tuesday.

Our puppy is timid around new people and he lovesssss going to see his friends here! You can tell they care about the pups that see them and I know that if I have any issues I can always call and get my questions answered/be seen by someone here. Love them.

UPDATE: Sue was very nice and made things right from my original first review. That shows a lot to me how much they care. The only reason I do give them a 4 is I still think their price is much higher than surrounding vets from what I am hearing. My dog came in for an ear infection. They gave me two options and I asked for the cost of each option. They gave me a $174 price estimate and we were good to go. When I arrived to get my dog my bill was over $300. I asked why the price difference and they did not know. They said they would have someone call me. That did not happen. I had to do a recheck with them a few weeks later to see how the ears were doing. I figured the recheck (since it was just to quickly look in the ears was included in my already increased price from the first visit) was included, but NOPE another $115 just to look and say the ears look good. Looking for a new vet.

I started taking my dogs here some years back and they were amazing. I mean above and beyond. Recently however they cancelled my Pet appointment 3 times. Always say they are booked up. I lost my dog and I have the VCA care club(some thing they offer) and when I called them to tel them that I need to cancel it for my dog who died they went ahead to tell me that now I have to get charged for a balance for something that was covered under care club. Like what??? Their service is absolute trash right now. I am finding a new spot for my dogs. Would not recommend whatsoever.

If you found or doubt your pets having cancer, Do Not start treatment here. Take your pet to 1.Oncologist or 2. Mission Animal Hospital(Mission is not oncologist but cheaper very honest and professional, they advice me before getting into thousands dollar procedure). I started testing and treatment at VCA, because they sounded like going to Oncologist will be more expensive. They didn't even tell me about MissionHospital even they know the cost matter to me until I asked for it. Dr McGuigan mentioned me about putting my cat in sleep before cheaper alternative vet. If they truly care about my cat, they should give us all the resouce instead of making money. Because VCA is not specialize in cancer treatment or testing/diagnosis anyway. They don't know the full picture of the treatments. Dr McGuigan always said,, I don't know until testing this and that.. They just keep adding more procedures and testing, and price adds up. More importantly, time added up. I always had to wait and wait for the technicians for testing, and then for specialist or surgeons' schedule for additional tests and surgery since this hospital doesn't have their own. When my cat got cancer, this is what happened. Full blood test at visit -> Another visit with tests including ultrasound ->visit - > surgery -> they told me it will need additional 2nd surgery after they have my cat for a surgery on the day. And they told me they will give me new price estimate while the 1st surgery is performing. It was terrible. I already waited for this surgery date for more than 1 month. Too much visits for testing gave my cat extremely stressed and traumatized, she stopped eating. I don't even know how they treated her behind me. They were keep adding waiting time, and cancer grew. And when I realized I should change Veterinary, that added another time to make an appointment. Summary to this. Fight with cancer is battle with time. We cam never chill out to wait with them. I waisted 3 month because of them, and cancer grew. My cat was stressed. After I settled with oncologist at U of M. It was much better. U of M can do much more in 1 visit. Compared to VCA charging me for every "visit", price was not so different I think. Plus, my cat didn't have stressed issue with UofM. Dr McGuigan told me once, her treatment won't be much different from Oncologist. I don't think so. Her answer was a lot of "I don't know". Oncologist are specialist. Tip: if you decide to switch vet, make sure you request test results to be share to avoid duplicate testing and waiting money, and stressing your pet.

Nice facility and staff, but the are late 100% of the time... Every. Single. Time. If your appointment is for 3:30 pm, they will show around 3:45 pm. Definitely not lean and could be improved. Tl;dr don't show up early

I took my cat named Bella in for a wellness check the week before the 4th of July and was told she would need to start a prescription for a hyper active thyroid. I have called them three times to get the prescription filled and have yet to get the prescription called in by Dr Elliot so I can order it. This is not acceptable.

Was a longtime customer here, my dog and two cats were all seen here. I was always happy with the care given, but I will never be back after their negligence led to the death of my parents dog! Due to some incompetence, they left the gates open in the boarding area, allowing my parents dog to escape, and ending up on the freeway to be hit and killed! Never use this place for boarding if you want your pets to live! Incredibly negligent, and incompetent!

WARNING re: Pet Boarding at VCA Animal Wellness Center of Maple Grove. While I have been happy with the veterinary care my pup has received at VCA in the last 3 years, I can no longer give them my money. My parents boarded their 7 year old German Shepherd (Mollie) at the facility while we traveled out of state to visit family. During her stay, there was a period of time in which she was left out of her kennel while an employee decided to take the trash out, leaving the doors unlocked. Mollie was able to get out these unlocked doors, and made her way to 494, where she was hit and killed. VCA has yet to own up to their negligence and mistakes, only offering their words of condolences -- which at this point, are simply not enough. Our loyal, 4-legged family member was supposed to come home to us happy and healthy. Instead, she came home to us in a box, in the form of ashes. VCA appears to be attempting to brush this under the rug, as they have not reached out to my parents to reconcile or offer anything other than their condolences, nor has any action been taken against the employee responsible.

I had an appointment today to get vaccinations for my dog and when I dropped her off, I told them she had started shaking her head and I wanted her ears checked at the same time. They called me back to say they wouldn’t have a doctor check her ears and that I needed to schedule a separate appointment in a week for that. I am very disappointed in the service today. I have been going here for years for vet care, Dr. Ambrose was incredibly supportive when my Pearl died last Christmas. I hate to see such deterioration in service.

Animal Wellness Center literally does not care about animals or customers (read below)! Dr. Green was the most unprofessional vet that I've ever met! He was hostile and frankly a class A jerk! During my visit, he complained about the workplace environment, which obviously had attributed to his stress. My poor dog went to the emergency room last Sunday for an ACL injury. I was told that I needed to follow up with a vet in 2-3 days. I called to get appt with my usual vet and was given an appointment for that Friday. The afternoon before my appointment, the clinic left a VM telling me my vet was unavailable. I called back and explained that I completely rearranged my schedule, working 10 hour days to leave early to get my dog seen. The clinic checked with my vet and I was told she could see me. I took my dog in for his appointment and told my vet was not at the clinic. I was told the receptionist must have mixed up my appt with another. I explained the situation and they told me I could see Dr. Green, who I don't know. Upon entering the room, Dr. Green asked how I was doing. I told him not great considering the above. He immediately became defensive with an attitude and told me that considering all the clinic has been through, I should be understanding of their mixup. I told Dr. Green that he could try and understand where I was coming from. He said, tell me what's wrong with my dog. I told him the tech should have entered the information into the record. He said, she did but I want you to tell me what's wrong with him. I said, as you probably saw already he's here to be seen following an ER visit. He then told me I was being "rude" and told me he could get the office manager. I told him that would be great! Beware of this guy! Follow-up to my post in response to owners comment. Don't fall for the owners response, just read the numerous one star reviewer comments and will come to the immediate realization that Animal Wellness Center is SHADY! Many other clinics in the area has much higher ratings. This past weekend my dog was not doing well. I called the vet at 8:00 AM on Monday and told no one could talk to me due to an emergency. I explained that I was debating taking my dog to the ER, but wanted to talk to someone first. The receptionist told me someone would call back. Did not hear from anyone and had to call back at 10:50AM. I was told no one was available and I should just go to the ER. I explained that I wanted to talk to someone and again no one was available. I had to call again later to reach a tech. I relayed the details and was told they would consult with a vet and get back to me. I had to call again at 1:50PM to follow-up. Horrible follow through! Do not trust this place!. Animals come LAST!!! Looking for a new vet now!

I have been going here for 10 years, and even though I live on the east side now, I drive to Maple Grove to see Dr. Ambrose and Abby, Jill, and Michelle in grooming. I have Newfoundlands - large dogs with sometimes large needs and I have absolute trust that Dr. Ambrose isn't going to over-medicate, jump to surgery, or recommend something she's not 100% certain of. Fear free handling applies to grooming and I'm thankful that the ladies in grooming will continue to put up with the massive amounts of hair my dogs must leave behind! Highly recommend if you're looking for high quality care. Edited to add: I just have to chime in again and say that I'd be lost without these guys. Dr. Ambrose always works to get us in, she makes me feel less crazy almost instantly, and my dogs are healthier for coming here.

Today my husband and I brought our dog to the VCA Animal Wellness Center in Maple Grove to see Dr. Elliott. She and her team were more than accommodating. They were very friendly to both us and our nervous dog. We have had some bad experiences with vets in the past, it was very refreshing to have a team who was patient and kind to our fur baby. He got plenty of treats and love from the team!! To me, the team epitomized what I’ve always been looking for in a veterinary clinic. Along with being great to our dog, they were very informational and non-pressuring about vaccines and optional add ons. We will certainly be returning for our next check-ups! The facility was also clean and welcoming!

Absolutely wonderful. After a traumatic experience at a different clinic, I was on the search for a better veterinarian. Dr. Ambrose has far exceeded my expectations. She was so kind and patient with my puppy who is already terrified of exams thanks to the poor experience elsewhere. I live about 45 minutes away from this clinic, but will make this drive without a doubt - it's more than worth it!

I absolutely love Animal Wellness Center, the staff, the vets and the grooming. They do a wonderful job of working with my nervous dog to feel comfortable and safe during exam visits and grooming. All of the vets are very talented and knowledgeable about animal behavior and learning. I haven't found any other vet clinics that I like more than AWC.

I love this place the vets are great with my cats. But the receptionist could be better. I got medicine for my cats eye and the vet said if I was having problems with it I could get drops. I called to get the drops on Monday I had to call them 3 times because every time I called they said someone would call me back and they never did. Finally at the end of the day when I called.. they said I could get drops so I said I would call tomorrow morning and do it ( it was almost close and I work until 9 I wouldn’t be able to get them that night anyways) so I called on Tuesday also two times and they said they would call them in to target right away. When I was leaving work I called target and they told me they never got a call. I was so irritated and annoyed I didn’t even wanna call the vet again. So I’m stuck trying to give my cat this medicine that me and him both hate doing !

Worst experience I've ever had at a veterinary clinic, ever! This clinic is the definition of Incompetency at its best. If your reading this, go elsewhere!

We had our first visit and it went very well. The doctor was excellent and we met with Dr. Engmann. She actually took the time to calm my dog before starting the wellness check by giving her lots of treats. At other Vet hospitals we have been to, they don't take the time for this and my pup dreads going to the Vet! If this location had been my dog's Vet since the beginning, I feel this wouldn't be the case. Dr. Engmann was able to soothe my dog and we got excellent advice. We would come here again.

I’ve been very happy with VCA Animal Wellness Center till recently. Dr. Ambrose and Dr. Greene are very good vets been very happy with them. I saw a different Vet Dr. Moyer for Minto she was wheezing, sneezing, not eating much, dehydrated, and hacking. I brought her in on Monday 7/16 AM. They did blood work and x-rays, iv fluids. Spent good $500.00 they wanted me to fast her that night and bring her back in for more x-rays. She diagnosed her with a blockage maybe she ate or food. She still wasn’t sure if their was anything in her. 7/17: I got a second opinion. I couldn’t see Minto so lifeless anymore. She diagnosed her with Pneumonia and treated her right away and she sent us home with medication to give to Minto. 7/18: I woke up this morning to Minto talking and walking and rubbing up against me. I got my cat back. I won’t be going back!

I have been a loyal customer of Animal Wellness for over 20 years. I should have known better about 3 years ago when I had my dogs teeth cleaned at almost $1,000 and the very next appointment with a different vet, they recommended the same procedure and when I said, "you just did that a couple months ago", the vet said she was mistaken and his teeth were fine... so were they cleaned to begin with? or was this just a money grab? A week ago on Saturday (1 hour before they closed) my daughter called me in a panic that my dog was having seizures when she was bathing him at a local business. I immediately called my vet (Animal Wellness) to see if they could help (I was hoping they could at least look at him). After being on hold for what seemed like an hour (probably just a few minutes), they returned and said nope... find an emergency clinic to take him to. I asked, "do you know of the closest one I can go to? as I need help!!" The response I got was, "no I really don't." So, my wife started calling and talked to a Vet in Plymouth off of 55 and Vicksburg that said they closed at the same time AW did and were already over booked. When my wife told them the SAME story I told Animal Wellness, they said, bring your dog ASAP and we will make him a priority!!! (so a vet that has never seen me or taken a dime from me was willing to see the urgency and help me and my dog as it was the right thing to do) NOTE: I have never been to this Vet (off 55 and Vicksburg, by Buffalo Wild Wings in Plymouth) and they had the compassion to help us. By the time we had driven the extra distance, our dog was gone. This vet was compassionate, helpful and treated us with sympathy. Now I don't know if getting to the vet sooner would have saved my dog. But I do know after years of being loyal to Animal Wellness and paying higher than normal fees for their services, I will make sure people know how well they treat their long time customers! In my opinion, they have changed over the years and are now over priced with less service and compassion then other clinics in our area!!!

Yesterday was the worst day of my life as I had to say unexpectedly goodbye to my heart dog, Sawyer. I saw, and highly recommend, Dr. McGuigan. Her extensive knowledge and bedside manner are impeccable. The entire staff at AWC is caring, gentle, and compassionate. We were set up in the Comfort room (which is actually very comfortable) so we could spend some final time together. We were given as much time, and information, as we needed for every step of the process. Everything was conducted with gentle dignity. It's definitely not the introduction one wants to a new clinic but they have earned a loyal client with this experience. I only wish they could have met Sawyer before all this.

For 10 years we had loved boarding our previous Portuguese Water Dog with VCA Animal Wellness Center. They were attentive, kind, and caring for her. After she passed away, we were anxious for them to meet our new PWD puppy. We had her stay at their facility and we were feeling so comfortable thinking she’d be in good hands. When we arrived to pick her up, we were told to wait in a room so we could get “talked” to. I told my husband it felt like I was being sent to the principal’s office for bad behavior. We were told she had bitten a handler from “fear biting” and we should take her to one of their classes for that issue. After taking her to many doggie daycares (not theirs) and grooming sessions after that incident, we’ve been told she’s a sweet gentle girl and the handler probably deserved a bite from not handling her properly. Would not recommend this place to anyone!!!!!! EVER!!!

All the staff was super gentle and caring for our cat Simba! Suggested the test they thought would be more beneficial to run. Ended up paying off. While they might be a little pricier, the care they give is awesome! Our little guy is almost back to his full self. They even called the next few days after checking on him each day. We will definitely go back for his needs.
