recommended euthanizing a 5 1/2 year old dog because of "kidney failure" and a "positive lymes test" when creatine in the bloodwork was in the normal range. The dog had horrible breath and was suffering from a dental infection and starving because he couldn't eat. Vet wouldn't follow up and wouldn't see the patient again. Good thing I had antibiotics on hand and now have him on his way to recovery. Gave the dog a week to live without hospitalization, transfusions and IV's. The dog is doing much better as the infection in under control with Amoxicillin I had on hand....Very disappointed in unwillingness to follow up, schedule dental and discuss case. VERY dissappointed.

I have always loved this veterinarian office. They have always been very patient and kind with my animals.

I have used this place for my babies for many years, through all of my animals. They are warm, caring, and are very knowledgeable. They don't just see your pet and move on. They will educate you. This is important to me. Tip: if you need to be seen ASAP, call at 7 am and continue to call. All of their same day appts fill fast... (They open @ 8)

The staff is very caring and compassionate! It was time for our dog Ben to cross the rainbow bridge. The staff talked us thru it and made us feel like we were all one big family. Thank you Grand ave Vet clinic!

Little mistakes they make you pay for with additional appointments. They nickel and dime you. Dr M might be the worst vet in the twin ports. I feel like he hates my dogs.

Helped my cat Baby when needed. I'm sure the vet did the best based on her experience yet I feel some things could have been handled in a more professional way. I appreciate she worked with me income wise since I'm a single pet parent and was just establishing myself here. It has been an adjustment as my previous veterinarian was so hands on and located below my apartment complex. He is a tough act to follow for any vet. He never withheld medical care.

Didn't like that I couldn't go in with my pup, but doctor called me quickly to tell me he's in good shape for an 11 year old and addressed the issues. The appt didn't take long.

Not sure how they are outside of the pandemic, but the little interaction I managed with the staff was friendly and professional. A bit ridiculous that they charged an extra $20 to talk over the phone at the appointment (not allowed inside) and then again when we got a follow up shot which only required a quick jab by a vet tech.

Was great when our dogs just needed routine vaccinations but for anything further, the communication has been very poor and because of that my dog's care has suffered.

The quality of care is not on par with other clinics in the area. Whenever I’ve brought my animals here I’ve been met with rushed techs and vets who do more authoritative judgment than professional pet care guidance. They don’t take time to ensure your pet is comfortable like other area vets (patience, a blanket, owner accompaniment). They may be a few bucks cheaper and easier to get into (hence the two stars) but I say pay a bit more and go somewhere else if you can. This place is the dollar store of our local vet clinics. They can do so much better. Reduced to one star because, instead of taking ownership of your sub par clinic and offering an apology and remedy like a business usually does, I got a defensive reply.

On Thursday April 9th, 2020, I had my dog seen at Grand Avenue Veterinary Clinic. She was showing symptoms of Anaplasmosis, a tick born blood disease, that I was familiar with due to a prior diagnosis. These symptoms included lameness in her back legs and tail, an unwillingness to eat, restlessness, and crying; and they were identical to the symptoms that she displayed when she was diagnosed with Anaplasmosis last summer. We had not yet begun our tick prevention for the season, and I removed several ticks from her shortly before she began displaying symptoms, which further supported my suspicions. After explaining the situation to Dr. Elaine Nelson, she examined my dog, and she disagreed that the symptoms were consistent with Anaplasmosis. She advised me that she should do a comprehensive blood test ($150+) along with the heartworm 4DX ($55.93) test to rule out other scenarios. I was not opposed to additional testing, but I wanted to rule out my suspicion before being upsold. As I suspected, the test results came back positive for Anaplasmosis. However, despite the positive test, Dr. Nelson proceeded to try to upsell me for the additional lab work, which I refused. The standard course of treatment for Anaplasmosis is one month of Doxycycline, an antibiotic. Dr. Nelson prescribed one week’s worth of Doxycycline, and indicated that she would prescribe the remainder if there was a positive response over the next few days. There was a positive response; although as expected after only four days, it was not yet a complete recovery. When I followed up on Monday April 13th as agreed upon, Dr. Nelson was not willing to accept the positive results of the test, nor the effectiveness of the treatment, and she refused to fill the remainder of the prescription without performing over $200 worth of additional diagnostic testing, plus radiology work. Ultimately, my dog’s medication is being held for ransom, and I am being extorted. In addition to the extortion fiasco, which is my primary gripe with Grand Avenue Veterinary Clinic, I also experienced the following: · The nine month supply of Heart Guard Chewables that I purchased for $92 was shorted by four months’ worth of doses. Perhaps this was an honest mistake, but based on the conduct I experienced, I am skeptical. · The office was filthy. The floors in the exam room and lobby were dirty, and the entrance from the main street was littered in trash, including an exam glove with feces on it. There are several veterinary clinics in the twin ports that will provide excellent, compassionate, and ethical care for your pet at a fair price. Grand Avenue Veterinary Clinic is clearly not one of them. You and your pet have nothing to gain by giving them your business.

Just took in my fur baby on Monday to be laid to rest. The staff was so wonderful. They are compassionate, caring, and so gentle. I appriciate everything they did for me and my pup. And the prices were even more affordable than I could have imagined. Looming for a good vet, they are the place to go. Thank you again for being such a great place and so very caring.

Staff was extremely friendly and they were able to take my dog last minute for a bad cough. Even though I couldn’t be in the room with my dog, the vet answered all my questions on the phone when she examined her. Amazing service, and was less expensive than I anticipated. Thank you so much!!

My dog was put down 3/9 he has congestive heart failure and we explained that so his health wasn’t good. They had to put an iv in him and we heard him cry for us while we waited. I will never forget this!! By the time he was brought back to us he was already half dead and I had to yell for the doctor to finish him off. This was the worst experience I have ever had and I’ve been thru it many times. The hardest thing was listening to him cry for us because we have never heard his voice like this ever. My dog looked right at me and tears ran out of his eyes and I’ve never seen this in any dog i had to put down. I’ll never have another animal because of this experience. I can’t stop thinking about him and beg for him to forgive me. Luv ya zan !!!!! And I’m so sorry for what they did to you!!!

Dr. Nordquist is amazing!! Our beloved cat Emma had stopped eating and we were really worried about her. We wanted her to be seen as soon as possible especially with the holiday weekend coming up (Memorial Day weekend) and with COVID-19 affecting how clinics operate, we were concerned about not being able to be present for the visit. It's difficult to hand your fur baby off to someone knowing you can't be there for the exam or feel like you are a part of the decision making process. Dr. Nordquist fit us in to a very busy schedule before the start of the holiday weekend. Before she did anything other than an exam, she called my boyfriend who was waiting outside the clinic and patiently waited while he set up a conference call with me at home. We came up with a plan together that was both diagnostically thorough and affordable, which gave us peace of mind. As soon as Tuesday came around, Dr. Nordquist called me with Emma's lab results and we figured out the next step together. I can't stress enough how helpful she was during such a difficult time, and I will be bringing both Emma and our other cat Lucy to Dr. Nordquist in the future.

Dr Nelson was very thorough, knowledgeable and really took an interest in my pets. She went above and beyond given some special circumstances I am facing. The staff was professional. This is a great place.

Used them as a vet in the past. From what I hear from my friends, they are not what they used to be.
