My family and I just relocated to the area within the past two months and have yet to require a yearly checkup for any of our pets. Unfortunately, a couple weeks ago, Portland was found laying in the hallway very lethargic. We rushed her to the hospital without calling ahead. The staff was extremely understanding and immediately took her in to try to save her. Portland did not make it despite best efforts and options presented to us. I’m very thankful for how understanding, patient and compassionate the staff was to our shock, anger and sadness of the events that happened. A week later they also sent us a sympathy card, which was extremely nice as we have never been to their facility prior. I wish the outcome for Portland was different, yet I’m very thankful for the staffs attentiveness and assistance in trying to save our girl. Thank you all.

The people that took care of our family member were very very cold. No people or communication skills. I would never come to this vet again. Our family member was very sick and we felt our boy and the family present to say goodbye to a huge part of our world was treated like a number and inconvenience. We held him in a room while waiting for one family member that was on her way too say her last goodbye. We had another family member in the waiting room that took it hard and couldn’t be in the room when it was time for our boy to pass on. A vet employee walked up to the family member in the waiting room and said hey how long do you thing their Gona still be in that room for?. We had been in room for half hour or so, No compassion for the family or pup. Apparently there is a time limit at a 24 hour vet to say goodbye to a family member. And when we came out to tell them we were ready to say goodbye to our boy it was more important that they get the money first. The vet came in put our boy down and pretty much walked out of the room. Once the bill was paid it was like ok bye. They charge a lot of money for the amount of care they provide. Don’t answer questions clearly and when they did speak I felt I had made a huge mistake coming to this vet. Horrible just horrible. The vet if she even was a vet, when I asked questions she mumbled and couldn’t look me in the face and kinda wanted out of the room. If you can’t speak confidently to a owner about the care you provided or supposingly provided and charged thousands for. I’m not confident you can provide the care needed to a family member in need.

We took our American bulldog Benny on Christmas Eve this year.to Bay Area pet hospital. There tech that came out to meet us in the lobby was not friendly she should not be working with animals she had no comparison. After they took Benny in the vet called us a hour later with that she said he needed surgery and said if not then just say goodbye we were in shock I told her ok but we wanted to see him before we left. When we went back in and were asking questions no one could tell us anything not even the vet came to talk to us. The only one that wanted to talk to us was the front desk tech to pay half of the bill. When we walked out of there my heart broke. by the time we got home they called and told us that the surgery did not go well and either we could take him to U of M or put him down that they weren't equipped to do the surgery. When we got back there we finally meet the vet and when we started asking questions she couldn't give us a straight answer and keeps looking at the floor she never made eye contact with us. I understand Benny was sick but there no comparison there your just a number. Benny's gone and the guilt I feel for leaving him in there hands will live with me for ever.

Our cat got into a fight with another cat and ended up with a number of wounds and an infection. They took excellent care of him and were wonderful to work with. I highly recommend them!

If I could give negative stars I would! The most horrible people & the worst service I have ever experienced. They would not let me back with my dog or listen to me when I knew my dog had eaten something toxic. They wanted to charge thousands of dollars to not give her activated charcoal or induce vomiting which means she would have died anyways... alone and not in my arms. I feel bad for everyone they take advantage of when they are in a desperate situation to save their animals. They literally have no idea what they are doing or any respect for pets or their parents. Reply: Yes, she had a pericardial effusion but this was likely due to the toxin. She ate a dead animal and penitrem a would explain the fast onset of all her symptoms and can cause the pericardial effusion. Our other dog had identical symptoms 2 days before but luckily she pulled through. Had you treated her pericardial effusion she still would have died because you wouldn't listen to her owners. Also you treat pericardial effusion with a pericardiocentesis not a thoracentesis as listed on your bill you HAD to write up before treating my dog. Just because something is the most common cause does not mean that is the case in everyone.

Dr. Inman took care of our Fergie (cat) after a seizure. She had stabilized on the 2 hour drive to the clinic but was glad I took her for peace of mind for that night anyway. Thankfully, it was not too busy with emergencies at that time and everyone was super nice. Dr. Inman was very knowledgeable and kept me informed of her progress. I think it was Jessica at the front desk and she was just great! Sorry, it was a bit traumatic so I didn't remember everyone's name like I should have. Thank you!

We bring our animals here from Gaylord because they always seem to have something happen late at night. They are always so caring and give super thorough but understandable information. I'm very thankful they are open as Grand Rapids or Detroit is just too far.

This was our second time using Bay Area. First time, our Golden got hit by a golf ball on his head. Of course it was a holiday weekend. The whole staff was wonderful, so caring. Reassured us that Zach was going to be ok. This last weekend we took our 15 yr old dachshund, cooper over. He was struggling with BM, diarrhea, very uncomfortable. I was convinced he had an obstruction. The dr sure knew what she was talking about. Tests confirmed what she thought it would be. She suggested he stay the night for observation. It was worth every penny. Cooper is feeling so much better. Yes he’s 15, but we weren’t going to give up on him! So glad we didn’t wait until Monday to try to get him in to our regular vet He received wonderful care Great communication, and reasonable costs

Words can not describe how kind and compassionate they were ashes girl went to paradise today. She was a very special dog who had saved my life from a tragic event. I wanted her to have a perfect day with a perfect exit. They made that possible and were so kind and sympathetic with myself and my girl. I was very thankful to have them help me with my dog on her last day. Staff and doctors. Thank you so much ????????????????????????

I have been taking my dog here for almost five years and never had a single problem until recently. I received a reminder from the office to get my dog in for a wellness visit, so I called to make an appointment only to be met with almost no appointment slots. When I asked about their weekend hours (as this was the whole reason I even started seeing them) I was informed they are "pulling away from wellness visits" and cutting weekend hours. I asked if they intended to inform their current clientele of this change and was met by with arguments, excuses, and aggression. The care was top notch here but management is apparently asleep at the wheel with communication. My advice, find another vet in town, one with better management

Our 13 1/2 year old Maltese-Shih tzu was lame for 5 days but I couldn’t get him into our primary vet so we made the decision to take him to Bay Area Pet Hospital. We are VERY pleased with the care he received, we were informed EVERY step of the way. The care he received was top notch and the fees were reasonable for the care he was given. We arrived at a time when other patients were finishing so our wait was reasonable, rather quick compared to other reviews but Dr. Greenwald and Moe were compassionate, treating us like we are family, so we didn’t mind the wait. Highly recommend Bay Area Pet Hospital!!

Kind and caring staff. Figured out an issue in 20 minutes that my former vet (in another state) had never figured out despite several visits with symptoms. Answered all of my thousands of questions with so much patience, helped me find a specialist, gave me many options for the future depending how our specialist appointment goes. This meant a lot as I had just moved here from out of state and was feeling stressed! High caliber of doctors here and highly recommend. So grateful for them. They also gave my pup so much love and said many good things about her. Followed up with us next day. We were impressed! Thank you everyone.

I greatly appreciate our town having a 24-7 animal hospital and I can understand the staff can become overloaded at times. However, I would like to state that if the vets and vet techs are not able to be, first off, ready to diagnose a prognosis with an animal prior to recommending euthanizing, and second off, be empathetic or sympathetic, perhaps we should look at the care our animals are getting at the only 24-7 emergency hospital in town. I understand that an abundance of emergency visits may end in death, resulting in the staff becoming “hardened" if you would, but assuming an animal should be euthanized within a minute or less is alarming. At that rate, you are simply just going through the motions. For the sake of scared animals and concerned and saddened pet owners, please be more conscious of how you are handling sick animals and heartbroken owners.

My dog was very sick and I was really upset. Everyone there was caring. I vet was straight with me. About what was going on with my dog. Making my decision on what to do a little easier, not that it was a easy. It was heart breaking. Everyone of them show deep sympathy for the loss of my dog.

We want to thank the staff for being so compassionate. The veterinarian and staff took time to listen to our concerns, provided emotional support, answered all our questions, and accommodated measures to keep our dog relaxed and comfortable through this difficult time and while so far from home.

So we filled out the emergency form at 12:46, our dog was taken in at 1:00 for a quick exam to see if he was stable. He was. We were told it would be about an hour for him to be seen. It is now 4:30 and we are told for the third time it'll be another hour for him to see the vet.

This was our first time to go through pet death and everyone, especially Alyssa was wonderful and made our grief much easier that day and the day we picked up Bella’s remains. Bella passed away about 8-10 minutes before we arrived at the hospital. We called when we arrived and Alyssa hurried outside to help us and verify that Bella was gone. Tears were shed and Alyssa solely apologized and made those few minutes much easier for us to deal with. Thank you to everyone at the Bay Area Pet Hospital and Great Lakes Pet Memorial and Crematory for being so understanding and the beautiful sendoff package for our Bella…the curls made me cry. It has been one week today…Our precious Bella left us early this morning. We had the honor of having her as part of our family since she was just 4 months old. We tried to give her a wonderful life for all of her 14 years and 4 weeks. She would lovingly purr when Robert would rub her stomach; she loved to cuddle and would be as much of a comfort to us as we were to her. She loved riding on the center console in the truck. She has always been a happy, trustworthy companion and when she quietly slid off to sleep about 12:15 this morning we were shocked that she left us so suddenly and bravely didn’t ask us to make any untimely choices since we were definitely not ready for this unfortunate situation. It is still hard to believe what transpired over night. We are glad that we and Harley were with her as she calmly and peacefully traveled to the rainbow bridge. She has left a hole in our broken hearts.???? Bella, you will forever be remembered. ????June 30, 2007-July 28, 2021????

From our experience last night, the entire place is unprofessional. The lady that talked to us on the phone kept counter dictating what she was saying. We were originally told that it was a 30 minute wait then kept being told it will be another 45 minutes to an hour. We drove an hour and a half for the vet and was told that it was a good thing that we brought our dog in that night rather than waiting until the morning. Which was obviously incorrect considering they didn’t even except our dog that night. We sat it the parking lot watching other dogs being helped that came in after us. We ended up driving home and not seeking help from them at 1:30 am. I guess an infection isn’t considered serious to them.

I took my cat in early morning from Kalkaska. Mr. Fluffy was seen promptly by some great people. Caring, helpful, courteous, and very kind.

I would like to thank the doctor and staff at Bay Area Pet Hospital for taking care of our fur baby Daisy. We were visiting friends and Daisy had an unexpected accident. She needed surgery. It was late in the afternoon and the hospital was very busy and we needed to be patient and wait our turn ( which was hard), but they took good care of Daisy and the doctor communicated very well with me over the phone. Also a special thank you to Jenny who took care of Daisy the day of her surgery. We brought Daisy back a few days later to have her checked out before we headed home. Jenny came out to our car and checked Daisy out and we were able to avoid her having to go back inside which was so much easier for everyone (especially Daisy). Jenny and staff were very caring and kind. These are crazy, busy, and different times and we need to be more patient and kinder. These people are here to help our fur babies and us. I highly recommend Bay Area Pet Hospital and would use them again if needed. Thank you for your service and all you do. God Bless!

Even during the pandemic Darby received exceptional care. We had a concern that required a diagnosis and Dr. Paige did extensive research to determine the problem. I could not have been more impressed and comforted. All in all, the quality of care by the vets and staff is excellent.

My elderly father and I had a wonderful experience today, despite having to bring his dog in. We came in stressed out looking for some relief for his old dog. Molly was exceptional to work with and came out to our car several times for updates. She was kind, understanding and very empathetic. Dr. Rogers was thorough in explaining the results of all the tests done on my dad’s dog and we feel better knowing we have a plan of attack to help cure her discomfort. Thumbs up to Bay Area for being so helpful and kind amongst Covid-19 restrictions and being short staffed. You are appreciated!

We had an emergency with our dog while vacationing in Michigan and they did a terrific job of taking care of our little girl. She needed surgery and also set that up for us. Hopefully you won't need it but I highly recommend them!!

They seem to misdiagnosed animals and give them the wrong medicine which actually ends up making them sicker my roommate's dog came in for an infection after being treated for being fixed and he got a bad infection and started bleeding down his leg so we had to take him in for a third time and they seem to do nothing about it unless you have thousands of dollars in your pocket this is a white collar place that deserves white people money and that is not fair

We are from Florida visiting with Family. Our dog Levi had some urinary problems. Ordinary vetinary offices were booking 3 weeks from now. We took Levi here and I can't say enough about the professionalism and true caring of Dr Jencka. She kept us informed every step of the way. Mary also went above and beyond. They truly care. They helped us make sound decisions based on factual information. My wife and myself cannot say enough about the entire staffs compassion. Yes there was a cost involved but they didn't rake us over the coals. It was reasonable and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. They are having some work done so you have to wait in your car but in all actuality we were more comfortable and our Levi was less stressed.

3 stars because the staff was super friendly. But 500 $ later my cats still not eating or drinking. They said they found somthing in his small intestine but had to keep him overnight for 1400 to 1600$ this is without fixing the problem and just for observation... Like come on. ????

These angels on earth saved my Brutus life when he ingested a foreign object that was wrapped around his lower intestine. They did a marvelous job. Even my regular vet remarked how beautifully they cared for my boy and said they were very good there. We'll always be grateful to have our boy still here, thank you!
