I've been a client of this clinic for at least 3 years, with 3 established pets. Twice in the last year I've been told they do not have same day appointments due to lack of veterinary staff. The final straw for me, my cat has a life threatening emergency (their words). Instead of getting me in they referred me to THEIR emergency room because they were short veterinary staff. I called around to 14 other vets, 2 of which were also VCA owned and nothing was available, most because I wasnt an established client. I had no choice but to take my cat to the ER where a urinary track infection diagnosis, tests and treatment is costing me over $800! Of course though it's the ER, so I get the cost at the ER. If VCA hadn't taken on more clients than they could handle, keeping some acute appointments open, I wouldn't be at THEIR emergency room. Funny how they just doubled their $$ by not keeping same day appointments available. Welcome to corporate America.

We heard great things about this vet. Unfortunately they weren’t accurate. On multiple occasions they tried to have us give our dogs vaccinations that were not yet due. The final straw was when they tried to schedule a vaccination 2 weeks after our puppy had just had the exact same one. When it was brought to their attention they didn’t even offer an apology. Clearly it’s all about the money for Dr Lunney and her staff. Which is super sad because some of us really value our pets. Please avoid this place at all costs! You’ll thank me.

I recently had to make a very difficult, end of life decision for my pet. Dr. Lunney provided clear information regarding his condition, treatment options and likely outcomes. She is thorough and compassionate and made this difficult situation more manageable. The staff is great, too! I know euthanasia must be almost as hard for the Vet as for the pet owner. Dr. Lunney, Thank You for being there! You are appreciated more than words can express.

Vets are very professional and compassionate. They took good care of my cat. Dr. Partaka even took the time out to let me know about resources to help me better understand my cat. :) Sending lots of love to this animal hospital!

Our sweet cat was ran over and we rushed him to this hospital. They immediately got us in, saw him right away, and called us to explain the details of what procedures were my options. Dr. Pete was the doctor seeing him and he explained everything in detail. He was so thorough and compassionate. After we felt the best option was to euthanize our beloved cat, the nurses and dr. Pete called us in to a quiet and dim lit room so that we could be with our fur baby as long as we wanted. He was heavily sedated so as not to be in pain. They gave us privacy and said to push a door bell like button when we were ready. They told us to take as long as we needed. Once we rang the bell Dr. Pete came in and performed the procedure. He was so gentle with our baby and as hard as it was we were relieved that he was no longer suffering. As difficult as it was to see him in that state, we knew we made the correct decision. Not once did I feel rushed or coerced. I felt like the staff treated us all so kindly and gently. Today I received a card with a note from the doctor and the staff expressing their condolences. Truly a professional and caring team.

The VCA made our experience as comfortable as possible. My cat experienced a heart murmur that caused clotting in his hind legs. We found him unable to use them, so we rushed him to the VCA. The staff was extremely empathetic to our situation and very timely in diagnosis. We inevitably had to put our sweet boy down and received a card of sympathy from here. I recommend that everyone take their fluffy friend to the VCA due to their respect for the patients and the patient’s family.

My poor kitten had a horrible experience at this vet. She had to suffer with symptoms for months before they finally treated her. And they did it to her twice. These were simple basic routine diagnosis that went untreated. My kitten didn't need to suffer they should have treated her right away. I shudder to think what would happen if my cat had something serious. I do not recommend this vet, they are not proactive.

I love the VCA staff. They are so good with my nervous, anxious little bundle of fur. Ravyn has been seen by Dr Partaka and Dr Scherger and I couldn't be more pleased with the care she's gotten. The Drs are always patient, kind, and answer all my questions. I know my baby is in good hands when we're there.

Ive had a negative experience with Dr Partaka which makes me question her judgement. I do not recommend

Dr. Lunney did a fantastic job with our cat. Numerous visits over a years time for our sick kitty, she was compassionate, caring, and UNDERSTANDING about costs. Always explained the break-down of costs & always gave us options. When it was time to do the humane thing to euthanize Bandit, the whole vet team was caring while still being considerate about cost. Highly recommend.

Absolutely recommend this place to take your animals too. Best vet I have be taken my pets to.

Loving staff who was love your animals as much as you do and take great pride

The staff and doctors are all very caring and knowledgeable. I have brought several pets here for wellness and illness visits. And, when my dog had to be put down, Dr. H and staff went out of their way to make her as comfortable as possible leading up to that point.

Love all people here. They really care about fur babies.

I do NOT recommend bringing your pets here. Check out YELP reviews!!! Very unprofessional and rude. They probably have 5 stars on their website because they delete all the bad reviews. Look on Yelp for the truth. Suprised they have a 2.5, should be lower.

The Vets here really care about animals. Great vet techs that help the Drs. Knowledgeable and caring front desk This place is clean, efficient and Drs are the best. They do own lab work and have an updated, ultrasound. Dr. Chapman is the smartest and most caring vet I have ever had.

Worst experience Ever was asking the vet questions about prices when she said I cant handle this and said you can talk to the doctor. And then walked out 15 mins later the doctor came in and said your pets are up to date on their shots …

Love this place. My dog has had many health problems, so we've seen every vet at the hospital. She has been boarded there as well. I would recommend Portage Animal Hospital to anyone. All of the staff really care there, and they are very good with animals. ...My dog likes to release her bowels...and pee when they pick her up, but the staff still love my dog, and are really good with her.

Dr Chapman is phenomenal. Her knowledge of animals is incredible, her knowledge of people and their companionship with those animals is second to none.

I have know the owner, Dr Andy Helmholt for many years. Before he had his own practice in Portage, he worked for me at the Kalamazoo Animal Hospital and the Texas Corners Animal Hospital. Dr Helmholdt is a very good veterinarian and has a excellent support staff. Portage Animal Hospital has developed a reputation of excellence. Many of my own clients board their pets at his hospital and always remark how well their pets are treated and how friendly his staff is.
