This place pulls background checks on applicants without written consent which against the law. Avoid this place and go to an adoption agency that’s transparent about their operations. Shame on you.

In 2018 I lived in Hammond Indiana my now ex boyfriend lived in Illinois he took me with him to the animal shelter in Chicago, we were allowed to see the cats/kittens when we got there, he picked out 2 kittens that he wanted then he filled out the adoption papers, paid the fees and he took the kittens home that same day. OUT HERE this shelter and other shelters say we my son and I have to fill out the adoption applications online first, we are not allowed to see the cats/kittens because we need an appointment to see them so we have to wait to be called to set up a day and time to see the cats/ kittens, to me it's as if they don't want the cats/kittens to get adopted because they're doing too much out here. Because the shelters are short staffed due to the pandemic you would think that their adoptions would be same day adoptions just like they are in Chicago.

They were very knowledgeable about all the kittens. Their names, their temperaments, etc. Very impressive. I got a kitty named Pearl. I paid $75. She was vaccinated, and spayed. Can't beat that price for all you get. Pearl is a perfect kitty. Very loving. I am so lucky. Thank you to the staff.

The staff was excellent and my mom got her boy. Definitely will be going back when it's time for the next one.

The after hours humane officer was so kind. I found 2 pitbulls roaming around, almost got hit on cleveland around 9pm. He met me at the humane society and helped me get them out of my car and on leashes while keeping them calm. He was so sweet.

Rescued a drop off dog near Hickory Village and they were great about taking her in. Hopefully she gets the help that she needs. Unfortunately they are still disorganized in the front office area, so hopefully that poor little mama doggy gets to be a milk mommy to someone else's puppies.

We have adopted three animals through St. Joseph. The staff is lovely and they obviously love the animals that they care for.

The staff at this shelter are wonderful! We were first-time cat owners and they walked us through every step and answered SO MANY questions. Whenever I had a question, they were always so patient in helping us. Find your buddy here! I can’t recommend them enough.

Our yellow lab Butters ran from our backyard right next to us, which she had not done before. When we couldn't find her in the woods behind us, we submitted a lost dog form to the St. Joe Humane Shelter. Lo and behold, Eberhart golf staff had found her! We are so glad to have her back. When I visited here to pick her up, the facility was state of the art and the staff keep on top of lost pets and adoption so well that in a place with a population as large as here, they only had 2 cats and roughly 10 dogs currently held there. That is incredible. I have cat allergies, and I didn't sneeze the whole time I was brought to view and see if our dog was the one that was picked up. Again, commendation to the humane society staff. I highly recommend this location to anyone who wants to help lost or abandoned animals!

I went and met Donna a little pittie and she is such a sweetie and she hopefully will be coming home with me tomorrow. Have to meet and greet with my beagle tomorrow and I hope it goes good.

Found our forever fur baby. The staff was very helpful with helping us find the right fur baby for us.

My kids volunteer here to clean pens and look after the animals.

Sorry to have to do this... don't call if you need help with a found pet. They will blow you off immediately. Adoption services are ok. Response to HSSJC: My problem was with the immediate response. I wasn't trying to bring the dog to the HSSJC, I was trying to ID the dog as she had no tags. We kept her and intended to if not claimed. I still donate to your business and will continue to. Just not the response I needed. I've overheard the calls you have had to deal with, I get it. No one was rude except me and for that I apologize. Thank you for taking the time to respond and consider my experience.
