The dogs are well taken care of here! Not to mention the many volunteers they have that help give love, attentions, walks and playing to the dogs! Plus Namiko is the best and does such a great job! Staff knows the dogs and looks to make the best fit for both dog and person!

I called for an animal welfare check because everyday when I take my fiancé to work and pick him up (always at different times since his schedule varies) we see this Rottweiler chained up on a small leash outside no matter the weather and the guy that answered (Greg I think) basically said “I’m not worried about the dog because dogs like being outside, I have a husky and he likes being outside all day”, like okay???? this is a Rottweiler not a husky. If you don’t care enough about animals to do a simple check on one then why are you working for an animal shelter.

A week ago my boyfriend and I went to adopt a dog from this shelter, and we brought home the sweetest little pup named Sweetie! Sweetie has been adjusting very well and is getting along good with my cat! Thank you Kent County Animal Shelter for helping Sweetie find her forever home ❤️

I had a great experience there. They really care about messing up the animals with a right family

I had a great experience when I adopted our family dog Stephen. He had some quirks and they were very upfront about it. By knowing this, it allowed me to make a decision regarding the work i was willing to put forth. I decided to take him home and give him a chance. He is such a good fit for us! They are very good about making sure that the the family and the animal are a good fit. Otherwise this could have led to a frustrating situation If they wouldn't have disclosed the information in the beginning. They really do care about the animals and families there.

Over the summer we adopted two beautiful kittens, Ibanez and Gibson (formerly Olaf and Dumpling). I appreciate the honesty and hard work and dedication of the staff at this facility. Their behavioral assessment of Ibanez (Olaf) was that he shouldn't be placed in a home with a child, which is understandable as these kittens came into the shelter as "feral". We spoke with supervisors and were able to get them to agree to let us adopt Ibanez. Staff cautioned us that he may never be the cuddly kitty that I was hoping for, and they offered to let us return him if necessary, truly showing their dedication to the well-being of their animals. Well, it turned out that Mr Ibanez was just shy. It took a couple of weeks, but he is the most gentle snuggly little guy, and his sister is the nicest outgoing kitty, who loves EVERYONE. I highly recommend taking a chance and adopting some "feral" kitties:) The only difficulty that we've encountered is that both needed a special diet and probiotics, which isn't uncommon with kittens, who have gotten a rough start to life.

When I arrived, they were unable to take the stray cat that I brought him that heavy broken leg. Then they sent me to a then they sent me to a private animal hospital, assuring me assuring me that they would for sure take this cat. When I arrived at when I arrived at blue pearl hospital, they were overcapacity and do not understand why the animal shelter would send me to them. I felt like the animal shelter wanted to get rid of me since it was just before their closing time period

I have adopted two kittens from here. The people are rock stars. They are so helpful and nice. Both Captain Jack and Princess Grace are beautiful, healthy, well adjusted, super lovable kitties. I highly recommend adopting a forever friend from here.

BEWARE, I ADOPTED A SICK DOG LAST WEEK. The shelter said they didn't know she was sick but I don't believe them. How did they not notice the cough and the lethargy? After a cough persisted for the 1 year old dog I adopted, the vet diagnosed her with kennel cough. When I called the shelter, they offered free medication but I would have to drive the 2 hour round trip to pick up the $20 prescription.. They refused to reimburse me for the vet bills for either my dog or the dog she infected. I am worried my sister's dogs will come down with it too. Now that she is on medication, my dog is running around, jumping and playing. She is a completely different dog.

Awesome, professional, helpful, patient, most of all she was understanding. Sir Reginald wanted me to thank you. It was his first time in doggie jail. He was in good company and that can make the worst not so bad. I don't think he cared for the police escort but meh, something more for us to bond over, ????. Be patient with these people. They probably deal with others freaking out regularly. Reggie home safe!

Actually they where not helpful at all. This cat epidemic is out of control where I live. We want to keep 3 male cats but they need to get fixed. I cannot afford that.

They were very helpful in putting my cat of 12 years down. It was the hardest thing to do, but they were extremely helpful with the process.

Kent County animal control is so impressive. My grand doggy, recently from Georgia, bolted from my friend who is letting him out. I was in Lansing. I called animal control and I returned ASAP. The officer who helped me, was kind considerate and concerned. She assisted in the search with friends and neighbors. Upon my return, I followed her instructions and recovered my grand doggy! Thank you, thank you so much!

It was very very sad. My brother's best friend got loose due to the negligence of the caretaker while he got locked up. I went there on a Wednesday and gave a description as well as a picture and address and was told he was not there. Went back 2 days after and seen that the dog was on the adoption list. The worker I spoke to had no information to give as to why it wasn't in the system that he was there. Mind you they said they had him since June 23rd I went on June 30th. To see if he was there and they said no. Not to mention he is chipped. Then they told me he has been there and fixed on June 22nd. Uuuummmm that don't add up.

They were straightforward with dogs that they thought would not do well around young kids and we got paired with the perfect dog for us. Emily talked us through the process and expectations for the first few days as our new dog adjusts and was super helpful, kind, and knowledgeable! Would 100% recommend if you are looking to adopt a shelter dog.

We saw a kitten on the side of 96 and couldn't leave it there. But we were on a road trip with two of our own cats in the car so also couldn't keep it with us. It was Saturday night and most places that we could take it were closed. We drove as fast as we could to Kent County animal shelter and they kindly took in the kitten, for which we were so grateful--this way the kitten will get a health check and hopefully will go to a loving home. I can't believe anyone would leave a kitten on the freeway. Thank you so much, Kent county animal shelter!!!
