If you want to keep your beloved pet company in a strange hospital, if you want to talk to a vet face to face and ask questions or if you expect to be able to see the care your pet may or may not be getting this is not the place for you. 2 years into COVID and you’re still relegated to the parking lot while your pet is taken away from you. Hospitals, retailers, first responders and service workers are all expected to work face to face with the public but these vets are too good to actually see their clients. Plenty willing to take your money though. Would you send your child into a random doctor’s office by themselves and trust what was happening? Terrible practice. .....Let me clarify. I don’t mean to say the ASC is a terrible practice, rather the practice of leaving clients out in the cold is terrible. I have no doubt the staff is competent and helpful. But if I can get my own medical treatment, a meal, groceries, entertainment and services at any other business in the state then it is either cowardice or arrogance that would keep you from allowing clients to have an active role in their family member’s care. My two local vets have not locked clients outside since the first months of the pandemic. The staff their must indeed be much more important than any other public facing professionals.

I’m a vet tech myself at a small clinic but I needed very urgent specialty services for our dog, Rosie. No other facilities in Michigan could see Rosie, and I even tried calling specialty hospitals in other states. ASC were able to get us in. The outcome unfortunately was not favorable for Rosie and I don’t think she would have made it much longer. We were able to confirm what we were afraid of and Rosie lost her fight against a very aggressive cancer. We knew that it was going to be bad, but we also weren’t expecting to be leaving without her and are still in shock. Rosie was gone within 2 weeks of her symptoms. Dr Pearson and the rest of the staff were very compassionate and patient with us during a very difficult time. Rosie was a wonderful dog, loved everyone she met, and loved by everyone that met her. She will be greatly missed. Thank you Dr Pearson and everyone else at ASC that took great care of Rosie (and us). I highly recommend ASC, they were wonderful. Rest In peace sweet girl.

First time at this facility. Cannot say enough about the doctors & staff. In a time when so many people are stressed due to staffing issues, this group maintains a very upbeat and helpful attitude. How refreshing. Thank you all.

My goldendoodle broke her leg, so we drive from GR for surgery. The staff made me feel comfortable leaving her in their capable hands and the surgeon came out to the car to explain the surgery and answer questions. Overall a wonderful experience!

Dr. Stanley saved my dogs life. Had a large mass in her lung. She was able to removed it without any complications

We had such an excellent experience with Dr. Stanley and professional and competent staff at Animal Surgical Center of MI. Our 12.5 golden doodle Lucy was diagnosed with Geriatric Onset Laryngeal Paralysis Polyneuropathy (GOLPP). Because of laryngeal paralysis (resulting in some impairment in her breathing), it was recommended that Lucy have one side of her larynx tied-back. All throughout the process we were provided information and support. After the surgery, Dr. Stanley checked in multiple times and responded with patience to my questions and concerns. Her recovery has gone beautifully and Lucy is breathing much easier. After 2 weeks, the incision has healed so nicely we can hardly see it. I would not hesitate to take Lucy or any of my future four-legged children to ASCM. They have earned my trust and my respect. Thank you to the staff and Dr. Stanley for your compassion and extra efforts to care for Lucy and her humans.

I needed a CT scan for my cat who is fighting cancer at the last minute. They were able to fit him in. The doctor, vet techs, and front desk staff are kind and attentive. It was definitely worth the drive. They sent the CT scan results over to the kitty oncologist we were seeing the next week in Grand Rapids by the afternoon. Thank you Animal Surgical Center team.

Beware of the full cost of care. I was referred to this practice for a consultation on removing a mass from my dog. I called them and scheduled an appointment which was ~1 month out. I inquired why it was so long when I'm just looking for someone to give me a ball park of the cost to remove the mass and was told that was their first availability and following the consultation they would discuss options/price and a timeline. Well, the consultation came and the staff was professional and took the time to answer questions. (+1 stars) However, the quote sheet they provided was merely the diagnostic portion and didn't even discuss the removal until I pressed for information and a price. There was a chance they could have spent thousands to tell me it's not possible or to then spend thousands again on removal. The whole process felt like I was negotiating as the staff started to strip down the thousands of dollars into essentially "Oh, we can be pretty sure it's just a fatty mass by doing this portion that's approximately $200". So, instead of offering that as a first step, they wanted to do a full gambit of tests totaling nearly $2,000 more than what they ended up at. This didn't seem in the best interest of the client and felt like a money grab. Then, when finally asked if I had any questions, I had to press for a price and what it would cost to be removed. That cost was $2,500 best case (fatty mass removal). So, to put this in perspective, if I followed their entire recommendations and the best case scenario happens it would be over $4,500 or more than it cost for an emergency appendix removal at a hospital for an adult. I was in shock and I told the staff I needed time to process with my wife. When I asked to leave with my dog, they sent someone out for a $125 Exam. I was completely confused, there was no mention of any costs when I scheduled or when I mentioned I just wanted to get a ball park price, nothing. Even more confusing is that the $125 is on the diagnostic estimate sheet which makes no sense if it's already required even if diagnostic services are refused. I understand this practice may do good work, but in my experience fail to put together a pragmatic treatment plan for their clients. How hard is it to offer the $200 solution up front and provide a phone call if the results are inconclusive before adding on almost $2,000 of extra diagnostic care? Not to mention reducing the number of tests/stress on a dog already in old age.

I really appreciated the knowledgeable and caring staff. My old girl needed knee surgery, and the entire staff put my worries at ease, and gave her the best possible care. (She's recovering wonderfully)

Dr. Dan was the only one who could figure out what was wrong with my dog's leg. (It wasn't a typical injury.) He did the ultrasound right in the exam room and showed me the problem. He's a great surgeon. Dr. Cody was also very accommodating and kept me up to date on my dog during his surgery and recovery. I hope my pets never need complicated or unusual surgery, but if they do, I would not hesitate to take them to this practice. I live about an hour from their location, but it is worth the drive. Also, I have been a vet tech for many years and I was truly impressed with the Doctors and how well they communicated with me.

My cat came home with a badly broken bone in her paw and fractures in her toes. I was referred to this animal hospital for surgery, and had all of her X-rays and paperwork sent over that day. When I called, the receptionist told me the surgical team would review them and call me back by the end of the day. I never received a call back so I called right before they closed and they said they hadn’t gotten to the X-rays yet. I called in the morning and night the next day as well. And then the next day.. 3 days after being told I would receive a call, my husband just called again and they said “maybe tomorrow”. It doesn’t feel very good being passed over when you have an injured animal sitting at home in pain.

I would definitely recommend this place and Dr. Bander. I couldn't find anyone else to take my cat that day, when he needed surgery. They were very thorough when explaining the surgery and aftercare. Got him in right away. The cost wasn't anymore than what the ER vet had estimated.

The staff from beginning to end are really nice, compassionate and caring. They communicate any issues very clearly and do a great job setting the expectation. We drove about an hour to this specific animal hospital because of the reviews and we are very happy we did

I have an 80 lb chocolate lab pitbull mix who needed ACL repair surgery. I live in Ludington. It took four months to get her in for the surgery. She was there a day plus overnight. ASC said they would follow up at least a couple times, when pics were needed and a final xray needed. They NEVER called to check on my dog. I had to call them 3 different times. She is back to walking fine now (4 months later) but no running for a year was recommended by my vet. Recovery has been a lot of extra work on myself, but my dog is worth it! LET ME CORRECT YOU in your response... My dogs surgery was May 3rd. You guys never contacted me in regards to my dogs after care. I did contact the Dr twice about my dog being really sick and peeing the first week in regards to her medicine. Then I contacted you about sending in her pics after 4 weeks. Then I contacted my vet at 8 weeks to take final xrays to send to you which I still haven't heard back on. You guys told me to have my vet in Ludington take the final xrays. It would be nice to know how the xrays look without me having to contact you, again.

I just recently took my dog in to get surgery on his vocal cords they have collapsed my dog came out happy acting like a new dog! Makes me so happy he can breath again and back to normal. Also the doctor has checked in on ceaser a few times to see if he was ok and I really appreciated the text I wasn’t expecting that.

They saved my puppy Lexi’s life! She was born with heart murmur and needed pda surgery…not only did they get Lexi right in the following week, but they were so comforting and very experienced with her size. Being only 4 lbs, else where scared me telling me she was too small & would die in surgery….Dr. Dan reassured me that he’s done this on a ton her size and even smaller. Everyone there was super kind and helpful! Will recommend to anyone that has a pet needing surgery 100%. Thank you so much again, Just had Lexi’s 2 months post opt echo…her pda is fully closed & said she won’t have any future cardiac issues.

I cannot say enough good about our experience here. I will condense it to how impressed we are with their care and professionalism from the person that answers the phone to the top surgeon and everyone in between. We never felt alone or left hanging concerning our pets care. Our pets surgery on her jaw was done beautifully and recovery was great. It is 3 months post surgery and Meg just had another checkup with her regular veterinarian who always praises the beautiful surgery that Meg had.

I took my 8 year old Chi to the Animal Surgical Center of Michigan after going to her vet for a broken foot/toes. When my vet told me that she would need surgery to put pins in her foot bc the foot would not heal properly without the pins. This was after she looked over the x-rays too! I immediately thought to take her to the ASCM bc I had went there before. The vet even refused to put a cast on her or wrap her foot saying it would not be good and would not help as small animals do not do well with their foot wrapped and would not heal properly. After Dr. DeCamp looked at her x-rays, he said it was not necessary to have surgery bc she had a “clean break” and there was no reason for pins in her foot and gave her an excellent prognosis. He casted her little foot/leg and after 12 weeks she was back to normal!!! Dr. DeCamp was awesome!!!!!! we drove about a hour and a half to get there every 2-3 weeks for a check up and to change her cast. i would gladly drive the long drive to be seen at this facility. The doctors are extremely knowledgeable and they don’t charge any outrages fees. They called to check up on my little girl, which is also good to know they aren’t just in it to take your money. it has been over a year now and my little girl is doing so well you would never know she had any problems with her foot! Thanks to the ASCM for being so attentive, caring, and knowledgeable!!! i would never go anywhere else and would recommend this place to any pet owner who needs their service!!! Thank you!

Dr. Stanley was excellent, as well as the staff. I would highly recommend Animal surgical center. Cancer had spread in our sweet boy Spencer, so unfortunately he was not a surgical cantidate, but it was important to find these things oit, to make an informed decision. We are very grateful for everyone here at Animal surgical center.

Great place! My dog just recently had torn his ACL and needed TPLO surgery and my primary vet recommended this place, and I’m so glad they did! They give you updates after surgery and the next morning. They are very responsive and caring. Highly recommend!

Kind and knowledgeable staff. Our dog had a sarcoma removed and stayed overnight after the surgery. The incision looked great and healed well, and I was able to communicate with the doctor frequently regarding medications and pup's recovery during that first week home. I would 100% recommend this location.
