I've taken my pets to South Coastal Animal Health in S. Weymouth since it opened. I had a good experience, wrote many 5 star reviews and recommended them to friends and family. I thought it was safe, clean, friendly and professional, until recently. I'm very disappointed in the decline of customer service. Prices have increased, my dog's last annual visit was $500 for exam, shots, prescription food and medicine for an ear problem that they have been unable to diagnose for years. It's all about the money. I'm most disappointed that after 15 years, my pet is not important enough for them to pick up the phone and resolve a simple customer service issue. Instead they rely on voicemail, emails and leaving it up to the poor receptionist to relay messages. To be fair, I received a email response from the owner of South Coastal. And a very opinionated veterinary tech, who I never spoke to, or met, who posted his version on Facebook, telling me to come and work at their office and see what it's like. Does HIPPA apply to veterinarian offices? Both explained their industry is overwhelmed with appointments due to covid and people getting new pets. They are still accepting new clients. Their staff works 10 hour days, are "drowning, suffering from stress and dealing with mental exhaustion due to customers like me." I wasn’t aware of this, when I was in for my dog’s appointment, there was one person in the waiting room. If I contributed to the stress of performing their job, I apologize. But I am still a customer paying for their services. I wrote this post because I was angry that no one at South Coastal would take a moment to listen to what I was telling them: I tried to refill a prescription that they prescribed, using Chewy. South Coastal kept telling me to have Chewy call them. Chewy said, that due to the new system that South Coastal uses – Chewy was not allowed to fax or call South Coastal and the prescription authorization was located in South Coastal’ s Hub. They needed to approve it there, or telephone Chewy to authorize. We kept having this same conversation for 3 days. They kept emailing me to have Chewy call them! I kept responding that Chewy could not call them. I got angry, ran out of food and finally gave up. I've received many responses to this post, and I must say that my issue is minimal compared to what others have experienced. This whole thing has made me see that trusting this Veterinarian with my pet's health for the last 15 years without question. may not have been a good decision on my part. They recommended expensive tests for my dog, for itching her ear, for years now. These tests never produce any answers. Once they lost the sample and I found out because I called for the test results a week later - I paid for the test in advance. The doctor I had last year said that we should remove her eardrum! She didn't know what was wrong, but suggested an expensive operation that would leave my pup with no hearing in one ear? I opted out of this experiment and chose the expensive tests instead which still returned no diagnosis. This year, it might be food allergies. So prescription food was purchased at their office, but when I tried to get it refilled at Chewy - all my problems began. When I complained, the owner responded in an email that said ‘we do not make any money off a sale from Chewy’, So I guess that means its not really a priority to call in the refill, right? So is my pet a priority, or just my money? There are many people on her staff that truly care about the animals they treat and I'm sure they are overworked and underpaid. But, if your staff is that stressed out from working too many hours and you are OK with not refilling prescriptions that you wrote - because your too busy and not making money from the sale, then I don’t think I want you treating my pet anyway, let alone performing surgery!

There's something to be said about the desperation you feel when someone you love, isn't well & can't tell you what's wrong. Ontop of that emotion, the elephant in the room. The feeling you're bring preyed upon by corporate veterinary clinics, extorting your love for profit. I had that experience elsewhere in the middle of the night once, and it was scarring to say the least. My 13 year old yellow lab seemed off & long story short after emergency visit elsewhere i brought her to her vet here at south coastal. They did an emergency spleen removal. The takeaway here is the calming & resassuring vibe i had from the incredible team of staff. Very reasonable rates given the level of care & expertise required. I had peace of mind which is priceless. I dropped my pup off at 0830 for surgery & had a phone call with status update before 0930 saying all went well. Anyone reading reviews for veterinarians is obviously in a hard place, probably scared & anxious....im writing all of this to tell you these people were the kindest most compassionate & professional animal doctors + technicians I've ever met. Your four legged family member will be in the best possible hands here.

I’ve only had my 11 week old puppy for 8 days, so when I realized his eyes were swollen with an allergic reaction this morning, I was really worried. I called South Coastal as soon as they opened to schedule my pup for a visit. They really didn’t have any appts available but Laura the receptionist was quick thinking and got the surgical vet to check him out before her first surgery! My experience was nothing but pleasant and informative and I’m lucky to have this team available for my pup.

I feel very lucky to have found South Coastal Animal health. My rescue dog is very anxious and fearful and the veterinarians - and ESPECIALLY the vet techs - are so compassionate, caring, and understanding. They go above and beyond to make both my dog and me feel comfortable and supported. I highly recommend them as a safe, reliable, and professional veterinary facility.

I am extremely disappointed and heart broken, I have been going to South Coastal in Weymouth since they opened in their previous location. I have recently seen a drastic decrease in service and customer focus as they grow. I feel like you are just a number. We recently brought in our dog because she was in pain when we touched her mouth. She was diagnosed with an inflamed jaw. She was prescribed pain pills and steroids. She showed slight improvement and them she seemed to get worse, we thought it may have been the pills. We brought her back for 4 additional visits seeing different vets at South Costal and was informed that we would not see an improvement until she was on the steroid for 4 weeks. We requested that they do an additional test thinking that it may be an autoimmune disorder we read about on line. Three days later she lost the ability to walk. She had to be carried into the vets office . At this point they did an X Ray that showed a large mass. We then took her to VCA for a in Weymouth CT scan that reviled a massive infection of the jaw that had spread to her brain. It had caused to much damage at this point and she had to be euthanized. I contacted South Costal and left a message with the customer liaison ( you can never get directly to a human) letting them know our outcome and also asking then to re-evaluate how our pet was handled / misdiagnosed . How did they not have concerns in seeing her over and over again, why was an X-Ray not done earlier. How did this get so bad with 4 visits and several calls. We are all heartbroken and are wondering how this happened. She was a healthy happy dog before this and it did not need to happen. They have grown too big and less personal. I have so many unanswered questions as to why this happened , it should have been caught. I have not received a call back yet…..

The staff and vets here are very kind, knowledgeable and helpful. My cat is feeling relief after being treated for an urgent situation. They made him feel at ease and were gentle. Thank you to South Shore Animal Health Care

My puppy had kennel cough. I brought her in multiple times for this and they told me to "Wait it out". I paid a fee of $72+, for each of those "wait it out" visits, in addition to some cough tabs that, "probably won't do anything, but I'll send them home with you just in case". In the end, I paid $500+ for Kennel Cough because they couldn't diagnose her appropriately during the first visit. My puppy has Kennel Cough again, and they want to see my dog before they diagnose her with anything... even though now I've learned that this is what Kennel Cough sounds like. These vets do not care about the animals. All they care about is the money they can steal from unwitting pet owners. I cannot wait to go to a new vet instead of this place, and I advise whoever is reading this to look elsewhere for their veterinary needs.

I've been using this vet since they opened and have only had one bad experience before today. I spent over $540.00 dollars for a routine exam vacines and a ear yeast infection. I wasn't shown how to administer the medication and the instructions were one large squeeze for ten days. The medication ran out after six days, when I went back to get enough to finish the dogs treatment they charged me for a full ten day supply. I asked them why it wasn't enough for the full ten days, I was told everyone's large squeeze is different(not very professional) and I had to buy another full treatment. I feel this vet is turning into a vca type hospital, more about the money than the care of our pets. They did two blood tests on a healthy two year old dog( never had they done this before). I've always trusted anything the vet recommends vacines, food, medication ECT. I have my doubts now, do your research don't just take their word for it.

Very busy. Make sure you are clear on what you want done during the visit. They have performed and charged for additional tests before discussing with me first. ALSO I have tried multiple times to reach out to pharmacy and get my dog’s prescription refilled and they have still not done so for 3 weeks now. They are so busy they should not be taking on this many clients because it didn’t used to be like this a few years ago.

Great Vet, they answer all questions very thoroughly, the building is clean and well maintained, and the staff are obviously lovers of animals. They are quickly responsive when contacted about a problem. I dropped them 1 star for the combination of it being 300 per visit and the 1 snippy front desk girl

Used to be a very pleasant experience bringing my pets there. They used to welcome and greet you. Since the new office opened it's horrible. There's no personal care. I'm just a customer paying for service. That's how I feel every time I go there. Very unwelcomed. I guess I should change vets. The doctors are good but the girls at the front desk can be very very rude and sarcastic. If they made a mistake on something they turned it around and blamed it on me. It embarassed me in front of others. They didn't accepted blame or apologized to me. I don't appreciate the way they talk to me and the sarcasm in their voices.. Over the years I've paid them several thousands of dollars. They should respect long time customers. Also, The cost is outrageous. Seems like it's all about the money and what you can pay. My opinion of a good vet is one that keeps their costs affordable so every pet owner can afford to get medical care for their loved animals.

After being through dozens of vets and animal doctor's, Dr. Liz is hands down the best and most personal vet that I would trust any of my fur babies with. Her guidance and medical counseling have been a crucial key to keep my ill-stricken animals healthy as if they were young again. Highly recommend all the vet-techs, and their caring for my cats and dogs.
