Been a client for 7 years. Was very happy. Sold to Banfield and now it’s pretty awful. Scheduling used to be quick and easy and could call for annual and have appointment a few weeks out. Now it’s easily 6-8 weeks out, if not more. Annual visit takes close to 2 hours. For what? This is worse than seeing your PCP. Will be looking for a new vet after most recent visit.

I booked an appointment and specifically made sure at the time I could get a free first exam since my cat’s previous owner (whom I’ve never met) had taken him to another Banfield location. I was told this was fine and anticipated the appointment for weeks. The day before someone calls me to say this was a mistake and I could not get the free exam… I can’t even begin with how rude and unprofessional that is, I was promised the free exam and they wait until the day before to tell me I have to pay for their staff’s mistake. I did what they said to resolve it and had the other facility transfer the records to my name then was told this wasn’t good enough either! As if the cat is paying the bill lol as far as I’m concerned this would’ve been my first exam with Banfield. These people don’t communicate or use their heads. I could’ve just not said anything about the previous owner and taken him in as a brand new cat but thought I was being helpful by merging the records. Whomever I spoke with wasn’t willing to reason and left me scrambling to find a new appointment somewhere else when places are booking months out. No way I would take my cat here after this experience though

What used to be a wonderful practice went completely downhill once they were bought by Banfield. Extremely rude and unaccommodating staff. Please consider supporting a local vet instead

This place only cares about profit--the front desk staff is so beyond rude and doesn't care about you or your pet. support a local vet, not petco!!

Take your animals to a place that actually cares about their wellbeing. This place is 100% all about the $$. They are refusing to approve a much needed prescription diet food for our cat because we haven't seen them for a checkup since the pandemic. We have a senior cat who relies on this prescription diet to survive. Thankfully there are organizations that exist like Angel in JP that actually care about our family as if they were their own and support our needs without hesitation.

I've been taking my dog and cat here for years, today I had a 2 o'clock appointment. There were two women behind the desk one being a young lady of color who was very friendly the other women was a heavy set women about 40 yrs old upon walking in the door she without even introducing herself was talking in a loud tone behind the desk, myself and others looked at each other as to who she was speaking to....Her overall additude , body language and personalty seemed bulling and demonstrative. Even though I spent my entire day waiting with my dog Ave to be seen I was shocked and appalled at this women's behavior.

South Boston Animal Hospital is a great place. All of the staff truly care about your pet and will do anything it takes to keep them safe and healthy. They've taken great care of our puppy for her first 9 months of life! Thank you for what you do!

Can't say enough about South Boston Animal Hospital! I take Malcolm to Dr. Yollanda Ng and she is the best! All of the staff is so friendly and love that when I'm in a panic I can call and the receptionists always talk me through it and offer guidance via phone.

Wonderful at explaining the care they plan to provide and why, as well as the cost for different care options. Also refreshingly forthcoming if treatments are available but perhaps not worth the cost given their experience with other pets having the treatment. Highly recommend!

The staff here is fantastic! From the front desk, to the assistants, to the veterinarians they are so caring and sweet to my dog. They prioritize a good experience - and do whatever they can to alleviate any anxiety my dog may be having during his treatment. Because of this, he loves the vet and tries to run to the back every time we go! Front desk staff always returns calls, and if necessary the veterinarian who does/oversees treatment calls to answers any questions you have and thoroughly explains everything that was done that day. Could not recommend South Boston Animal Hospital more!

This used to be our go-to vet for fast and reliable service at a reasonable price -- I don't know what happened, but we now routinely have to wait over 45 minutes after the appointment, many mistakes happen, and they have more than doubled their prices (e.g. $260 for filling out 3 lines in a travel document).

Just all around great experience AGAIN! I had to take my pup last minute, and the staff was super friendly again, the Vet examined my puppy and explained what should be done. Everyone was super nice, and I thought the cost was reasonable. I was very very happy with this service

I called because a friend of mine saw a dog get hit by a car and it was transported here. The woman who answered was so sweet and responsive to my inquiry to see how the dog turned out. Thankfully, he was stable! The hold message had a ton of great information for pet parents. If I lived closer, I'd bring my dogs here!

This place takes such good care of my pets. They are super prompt with follow up calls as well when needed. More than once I've received a call on a Saturday with results of bloodwork that had been done on the Friday. Their office is spacious, clean, and staff is friendly and professional. There's a bunch of different vets and I never know which one I'll get, but have yet to get a bad one, and I know they wouldn't be able to do as much, as well as they do, without a healthy roster of DVMs. So, I don't mind finding out when I get there who I'll be seeing.

My dog and I LOVE South Boston Animal Hospital! I've been taking my dog here for 2+ years and they've always treated him like part of their own family. They truly care for the animals they serve and will do everything in their power to ensure your pet is comfortable and well taken care of. They go above and beyond each time my dog visits for his yearly dental cleaning. Both times, they've sent him home with a cute bandana and a new toy! I appreciate that they take the time to explain diagnoses and I've never felt rushed in their exam rooms or checking in/out. The vets and technicians answer questions thoroughly and honestly. The day after each appointment, they follow up to ensure your pet is healing appropriately or to see if you have any additional concerns. I would recommend SBAH to anyone looking for a reliable, trustworthy vet.

They do care for your pets... They offered spade sevices at a discounted price in the past and most likely still do.

They’re really bad at communicating and very nonchalant when your pet is sick. Always suspected that they never really read through dogs medical history before appointments as we often had to correct the vet about why we were in and sometimes even which vaccination to give out puppy. We requested medical records for our puppy when we decided to switch vets and discovered they were very inaccurate and inconsistent. Be your pets best advocate, stay on top of them when it comes to any treatment or diagnosis they give you.
