The doctors at Tufts couldn’t have been nicer or more knowledgeable at this hospital. Before my cat was discharged they sat down with me and went over his care plan in full detail, sending me home with plenty of information and medicine in case of another emergency Rx (laxative). I certainly hope I never have to go back there for my cat but if I do I know he’s getting the best care available.

I’ve gone to Tufts only twice, both times for Euthanasia. I don’t write reviews often, but in the two times that I have gone to Tufts, their service has been unbelievable. The workers at Tufts should know that they are truly incredible people doing such an amazing thing and they have treated me and my pets with so much compassion, kindness, and respect each time that I have gone. Because of them, my pets were given the chance to pass comfortably in my arms with all the space that I needed. They gave me time to spend with my pets beforehand, while still being mindful of their deteriorating conditions, time to spend afterwards to take in the situation, and even when the pet had been taken out of the room, time to recuperate before we had to drive back home. The people there are more than just workers, but are people who care about what they do and the animals they work for. In any future situations, I will go to this Tufts location each and every time and I hope the people there carry with them how incredibly amazing they are.

SO grateful for Tufts! Saved our 6 year old German Shepherd with GVD on christmas eve. Emergency surgery and discharged all in under 24 hours. Thank you so much for saving our boys life. Best emergency services I could have asked for. Merry Christmas!!

My sweet baby Dolce was diagnosed with DCM in February of 2021. Since then we've been freakvent visitors to ER, and seeing Dr. Cunningham on a regular basis. The team of cardiologists in the hospital is amazing. Last time Dolce was submitted to an ICU and spent 4 days there. Thank you, Dr. Rush, Dr. Lopez, Dr. LaMastro and all medical personnel who work here. YOU help us to keep our baby alive and healthy as much as possible with that horrible disease. THANK YOU!

Dr. Peter Czajkowski saved my best friend. And by best friend, I mean my miniature dachshund Vienna. I ran into the emergency room with her not being able to use her back legs at all all of a sudden and she was hunched over. They took her in as soon as possible and called me on the phone to let me know the updates and went over all payment information. She had a slipped disk in her spine, which is very common in dachshunds. She went in for emergency surgery that night with Dr. Czajkowski. He called me later that night and explained everything. I couldn’t stop crying I was so scared for her and he kept me updated every step of the way and was extremely empathetic and knowledgeable and not to mention very patient. I had to keep her there for a few days and they took absolutely amazing care of her. I don’t get how this place gets horrible reviews. It was very expensive yes I will say that, but what vet isn’t? One of the students at Tufts who was taking care of her, Peri, was also amazing and would call me at times with updates as well. She told me Vienna wasn’t eating, so I told her to give her her favorite snack, baby carrots. They didn’t have them there so she brought some from her own house! Vienna then ate just fine including her dog food, Peri told me. She is walking almost perfectly now at home and is such a happy dog yet again pretty much back to her old self, I can see how happy she is. Thank you so much everyone I can’t thank you all enough!

My dog chewed off his e cone at 9:30 PM. My vet has this phone number to call for tufts after hours. I did so, the girl who answered laughed and suggested a lamp shade. Then when I said we’ll do you have any? She said she can’t sell me one cause my dog didn’t get fixed there. I was obviously upset by this because clearly this is urgent and don’t want him to lick incision or get an infection. Woman hung up on me. I called back and was clearly transferred. This person I spoke to said it wasn’t a problem to come get one and I was only 15 minutes away from the location. When I arrived, I was clearly greeted by the first woman I spoke to cause she asked if I called back or if I was transferred and gave me attitude and started talking about me to the other woman at front desk.

I don't even know where to start. I just want to say thank you to the night shift crew and Dr. Alan for looking out for my little guy Chewey. You guys have went above and beyond to make sure my little cub pulled through. He was having breathing issues from an accident I sadly put him through and I felt like my little guy was struggling to breathe. As soon as I arrived to tufts at 3am 10/14/21 they quickly came out brought him In and did some preliminary checks. No we couldn't go in and be with him but we were fine waiting out for him. They put him on oxygen for several hours and by the end of the night my guy was well enough to come home. So for the next several days we are keeping a tight watchful on him and making sure he continues to heal. Again thank you tufts for all of your help and kindness with my husband and I who are struggling financially to find a way to pay his bills and love you have for these animals. We appreciate you. Night shift crew and Dr Alan you guys are angels ???? ????

I have always had good experiences at Tufts. The first was when my cat ate the Christmas tree on Christmas Eve and required immediate surgery. I couldn't afford it all due to being in college at the time and was going to put him down. One of the staff there funded my surgery for him and he made a full recovery. I could never repay their generosity for saving my cat. I also frequently visit now for my yorkie who seems to get into a lot of trouble. Between the collapsing trachea or popping her hind leg out, they have been amazing with treating her. She also needed to be hospitalized for a few days due to having a tick borne disease. She was in great hands and I never once questioned their skill. I highly recommend them for any pet emergency as they are the place that will treat your animal like family.

Where do I even start!! My dog needed an ultrasound, his vet didn’t have the technology to provide it, so my mom took him to tufts. Got there at 10am. First let me start by saying you have to sit in your car and wait. You can’t go in and be with your pet “because of Covid even though everything else is open” and you can’t leave and come back for your pet. She sat in the car for over 7.5 hours!! Apparently the employees here don’t know how to use a phone!! An ultrasound was not done, they did blood work!! 7+ hours for bloodwork then they brought him outside without his meds they prescribed! So she is still sitting there waiting!!!! The price to come here, does not match the service you receive!! Do better Tufts!! 8 hours and we got nowhere!! Thanks for the bill!!

My experience at Tufts Foster Hospital for Small Animals -Emergency Dept. was a very caring and attentive experience considering the circumstances. My oldest cat was admitted for emergency care on a Thursday evening. My emotions were very high and I was very nervous regarding my cat’s diagnosis. The registration/triage personal – Elena had a very calming and warm presence while assisting me with various needed information and spoke to me with concern and care for my cat and the situation. Dr. Jucker was the Doctor on duty that evening and his thoroughness and prompt attention regarding my feline brought comfort to me. He was very detailed in what the treatment plan would be for him while he stayed overnight and answered all my questions with kindness and patience. Dr Thomas took over the next day and called me first thing in the morning with an update and followed up with me regarding what she thought would be the best moving forward. Dr. Thomas was a breath of fresh air. I do know first- hand how hectic things can be in an emergency setting and I have dealt with a few doctors regarding my pet’s care and she was very thoughtful in how she communicated with me. Her detailed thoughts and organized manner helped me through this whole process regarding my cat’s care. She is very attentive and one of the most engaged doctors and for that I am grateful to have had her opinions and thoughts. She followed through daily even when my cat was discharged and further care was considered elsewhere. Rose and V are also two people that need to be highlighted. They both provided personalized customer service and care in regards to answering my various questions whenever I called from time to time. I know things have been tough lately for the Veterinary world. The demands are high and there are great pressures placed upon various but I never felt any of this during my emergency experience. The staff provided the highest quality of care and knowing my cat was in good hands provided a lot of relief during this process.

I brought my dog here for the first time because he had fallen and was vomiting. After searching Goggle we were worried he might have internal bleeding. The student assigned to our pup and the doctor were awesome. They carefully listened to every thing I said and fully answered all my questions. They were super busy and we were there for four hours, but they were great. They ran all the necessary tests and made sure my dog was well before they sent him home. Hopefully I'll never have to go there again, but if we ever have another emergency this is definitely where I'd bring him.

I work at another veterinary clinic and know first hand how overwhelmed we all are with so many patients needing to be seen. I called close to ten hospitals for a patient trying to get a ophthalmology consult, and no one was able to help. I called TUFTs and the liaison I talked to was wonderful! She said she would reach out to their doctor and be in touch. She called me back quickly and was able to get this patient in the very next day! I wish I was able to get the liaisons name, because she was sooooo wonderful and the family is so thankful they will be able to get their pet seen! Thank you!!!!

I called 2/26 at 9 am because my dog wasn't acting right. She looked like she was in pain and was acting funny, so I just wanted to make sure they were going to take her in before I made my poor dog lay in the car for 30 minutes. None of the vets in the area would see her and suggested I call an ER hospital. When I called, I explained all the symptoms my dog had and the woman who picked up said they were "short staffed" and were limiting visits to "real emergencies". She said to "just keep an eye out because the dog sounded stable". My dog ended up passing away a little over an hour later. I found out later, the symptoms match to her having "bloat". Seems anyone working in an ER vet setting should know symptoms to something that can kill a dog in hours.

They over charge you and then make you wait for a letter to get the rest of the refund back why can’t they just refund the money if the bill wasn’t that much I paid upfront so why can’t they just be upfront with me

My dog has complicated health problems and so I have worked with numerous vets and specialists over the past few years and have always been decently satisfied with the level of service despite the usual delays and slip ups. Whatever, I understand things happen. The constant delays and miscommunications we have run into taking our dog here (daily, regularly scheduled appointments for radiation treatment) are way beyond what is normal or acceptable.

Unfortunately, both of our dogs needed emergency care within a few weeks of each other. Both times we were seen right away and the staff took great care. On the first visit our dog had bloat and torsion and we made the difficult decision of peace. The doctor was very honest but caring through our discussion. Our visit pre-procedure was very calm and when the doctor came in to help put her to rest, it was very peaceful and quick. The staff at the reception were very kind. On the second visit with our second dog, he had internal bleeding, probably from cancer. The vet was so sweet and caring as she listened to everything that happened that caused our concern. She explained our options thoroughly and was very sympathetic to us. Again we were given as much time as needed with him before our procedure. When it came time, the doctor explained everything that would happen and was wonderful throughout the entire experience. While the costs are high, emergencies happen and it's nice to have such a supportive and empathetic staff that do care about both pets and people.

So I brought my bird because he looked really sick he was fluffed up and sleepy. They took him in and we waited in our car. Dr.Mckean called and said that he needed to stay over night and see an avian specialist in the morning but because we didn’t have the money we couldn’t keep him in for 1500. So I told her to hold on while I discuss with my partner and hung up on me so I called back the receptionist told us that she would hand him to us, fine. When she gets to the car she pretty much shoved the carrier to us. When I opened it my bird was dead!!! Not only dead but super wet and obviously cold. I can not comprehend what happened but obviously my heart shattered I think I would’ve saved his life if I would’ve treated him at home

I can't say enough good things about the Foster Hospital for Small Animals. I brought my beagle puppy here yesterday due to her sudden collapse and shock-like episode. The emergency department, ICU, and internal medicine teams were amazing. From the woman that took my frantic call who calmly spoke me through next steps, to each intern and resident we spoke to, I knew my pup was in great hands. We were given frequent and extremely thorough updates during her 26 hour stay. Sure, we had a few slightly frustrating moments with accidental hang ups and holds for 10+ minutes but I understand why those things may happen in such a busy and high stress environment. People are human, mistakes happen, and none of this outweighs the amazing care and support they provided...and during a pandemic when treatment and interactions with patient families are much different. A lot of the negative reviews about this location seem to be due to the number of procedures performed or the cost. As far as cost, I actually ended up getting part of my deposit back. And as for the need for several procedures -- I see this as a sign that this is a hospital that cares for their patients and wants to do anything they can to help diagnosis an issue and offer treatment and support for recovery. Teaching hospital or not I fully trusted each medical professional with whom I spoke. I truly feel that they saved my dog's life.

I have had a few amazing experiences with Tufts, but I wanted to point out two amazing doctors. First, Dr Christiansen (neurology), helped correct my 12 yr old dogs back and was absolutely amazing. She is so knowledgeable and really set me at ease. Not to mention she updated me along the way. Secondly, Dr Francis (ophthalmologist), helped my dog with an ulcer in her eye. She was super knowledgeable as well and really explained everything to me in full detail. A few years back my dog lost an eye and the doctors were so helpful then as well. I could not have been happier with my experiences with Tufts, so happy that I am committed to drive 1.5 hrs each way.

Where to begin with this review...I had taken my dog here for over 2 years while living in MA. He got lymphoma and was treated by oncology there. He did very well and was in remission. I am thankful for that. Most of the oncology team is great. Dr. Carrie Wood is great. My dog came out of remission and began to receive chemo again. He was doing sooo well. He went right back into remission and was tolerating the chemo even better than the time before. Out of nowhere he developed pancreatitis shortly after we moved to CT. I was still driving to tufts from ct for his chemo once a week. I decided to take him to tufts where I thought he would receive the best care. I was wrong. The first year emergency resident wanted to send him home (when he was in acute pancreatitis) and visibly in pain. I asked to keep him there for fluid etc and more studies. I told them I suspected pancreatitis (I have a medical background). They did nothing with him until the next afternoon, not even pain meds. They did nothing about his pain until the next afternoon when I demanded his pain be treated and stayed until he got pain meds. He died the next morning 2 mins after the doctor called me and said he was doing better. I opted for resuscitation efforts which were futile because they used wrong dosages of all emergency meds and wrong defibrillator dosages that wouldn’t even restart a goldfish’s heart. Furthermore, according to their paperwork he was in a rhythm incompatible with life for 10 mins before they did anything and before the doctor called me and said he was doing better. They just let their students/residents run around and experiment on the animals with minimal guidance from their supervising vets. They make mistakes which in my case led to the death of my beloved dog. Never once did the person overseeing the residents even have the decency to speak to me. I filed several complaints with the veterinary board of medicine. When Tufts found out they stopped communicating with me entirely. Many of Tufts employees are affiliated with the vet board in mass so my complaints fell on deaf ears. They refused to give me copies of his medical record until weeks later. They freezed and thawed his body so that there was so much freeze-thaw artifact a cause of death couldn’t even be determined because I took his body to a third party pathologist to determine cause of death. They claimed it had to be a pulmonary embolism because it was sudden but no evidence of that was found. They are straight up crooks and killers. Don’t ever take your animals here. I will never stop speaking out against them.

My husband took Odie our basset hound there because he was in a lot of pain. They took such good care of him. They are very professional but they are also very caring to the animals they treat. I feel that they treated Odie like he was a member of their family and that is so important to us. Thank you to all that helped our little boy.

I drove 45 min for emergency care. Expressed the fact that it was life or death and my sons guinea pig wouldn’t survive over night without medical attention. I was told that if it wasn’t said by a vet then it was an assumption and that they wouldn’t admit her. Sure enough the next morning my sons guinea pig past away without even being looked at I would never recommend this facility unless you prefer the pick and choose method. Horrible service

I brought my cat in the other night as he was not eating, throwing up and not himself. Tufts was the only option for a Sunday evening so I went in. They were able to remove a foreign body in his small intestine that same night. They called me before and after surgery, as well as the next morning. I am so thankful for their help and so far my cat is recovering beautifully. Yes, the cost is much more than other places but was not even a question for me since my cat was in pain and was not comfortable waiting until the next day. Thank you!

After being referred by a trusted friend, we took our 15 year old Lab here last weekend after she'd stopped eating for several days; the vet confirmed what we feared, that the cancer she's been battling had obviously progressed and that our beloved baby wasn't long for this world. We had to make the heart-wrenching decision to return the following day to have her put to sleep and the hospital, the staff and the attending vet were all beyond supportive, professional and loving toward our dog and our family. I cannot say enough positive about what was one of the worst possible scenarios any of us will face. THANK YOU to everyone here who took such good care of us; we will always remember how well you treated us.

Brought in a chinchilla in shock. He passed away there. I paid over the phone immediately, the $380 bill for CPR and cremation with return. They then had the audacity to send me multiple invoices. Literally charged me for CPR twice $280x2 on the same bill..... I got it resolved but really? First of all I already paid. Secondly now I’m getting unnecessary reminders of what happened. Not cool.
