It's always hard to find what you're looking for. My biggest issue is that you have to track down an associate, and when you find one, they don't work in the department that you have questions about. So, back on the hunt, only to find that that person isn't knowledgeable either.

I just ran in to grab two big Kongs for Christmas presents. Very few customers and the cashier was right there by the register. Easy in and out.

Walked in, found what I wanted, checked out. Just that quick! Perfect!

I am in and out of here all the time, the staff is always on top of their game and very friendly. The store is well organized and has been for over a decade, the store manager has been the same person and he knows his stuff. The aquatics section is very well taken care of, they hire experts that can handle the chemistry of saltwater species. And they can order more exotic fish if you get friendly with the aquatics section expert and place a requested order ahead of time. Not to imply they have access to all the fish you can imagine, but their list is quite large! They do have a bunch of dog health care supplies which is great when your dog has the itches!

I love this store. I get the best advice on how to care for our white’s tree frogs. George, Dana & Ari are knowledgeable, patient and good educators. So appreciated!

You are understaffed. You should have at least one self checkout. Employees are good just to few. Petco is where the pets go.

Their staff is absolutely AMAZING! Every time I come in they are extremely helpful and make sure to take the time to explain everything I need to know! They are polite, kind and friendly!! They are also SUPER sweet to my puppies when I bring them along! I highly recommend going to this location!

Real friendly folks. As a first time cat adopter, we had plenty of questions. We were paired with a woman sales rep who has an 18 year old cat and was very knowledgeable and helpful. "I'll be back".

I don't think I've ever been more insulted by a business than I was by the aquatics employee - Zack - that works at this PetCo. I work in the Veterinary field, and have for years. I have raised fish from small fry to fully grown adult, my fish have all lived for literal years beyond what your usual fish would live. All of this apparently does not matter unless you can pass the Fish University Quiz administered by the resident certified fish president working in the fish department. Apparently you're not allowed to buy a tank AND fish the same day, so you know what I did? I bought my fish elsewhere, where they recognize when someone has more intellect than a toddler. According to PetCo, I'm just inept and mentally hindered at being able to take care of fish. All of this I find incredibly hilarious considering they keep half-dead betta fish in tiny cups, and willingly sell them - as well as other vulnerable small animals - to people who are incapable of caring for them. It's hilarious they sell small animals AND those wire cages for them, which are incredibly inhumane and abusive to keep these animals in. Pretty sure I know more about animal care than they do, but that's totally fine. I ended up returning the ridiculously priced tank I bought as well, because I found it cheaper elsewhere. Their manager was about as helpful as a broken clock, and their corporate office wasn't far behind in the stupid department. My warning is don't shop here because they pick and choose what animals they're okay with being neglected. They will willingly sell a hamster to a mother with five screaming kids to live it's life in a wire cage that is far too small, but decline an actual animal health professional some freaking goldfish because the guy working aquatics has a napoleon complex.

Believe it or not, they have a good selection of salt water fish and a small selection of corals that are affordable and are if good quality. Check them out. See Peter in Germantown and Matt in Frederick

Worst experience grooming my dog, the groomer complained that the dog was restless - then, she should have just told me she could not groom, she lied to me that she has completed the grooming and nothing was done, but i was charged ridiculous price and shameless demand for tip - never going back

Went for my first time this morning on 10/2 and sadly was not a great experience. Grabbed a bag of dog food and brought it up to the front and got in line in one of the open lanes to check out. The manager (short, brown hair, chubby, covered in tattoos) scolded me saying their store policy is that it’s only one line and that it goes in order to let the lady in the adjacent lane go in front of me. The way she said it was so belittling and there was no indication that’s how their checkout worked. As I was waiting 6 people walked up and did exactly as I had done and filled out the lanes and she didn’t even say anything to them. Very unprofessional to treat your customers in that way. There are plenty of places to buy dog food, I won’t be returning here for further purchases.

The selection of wet cat food with gravy was great. Cashier with the ladybug tattoo was very helpful when I was shopping with a very injured hand.

Prices in these specialized stores are high, easy to find better deals elsewhere

Revised: Much better. Store is clean, staff is kind, glad to shop here now. Compliments on the improved cleanliness and organization. Previous review: Seems pricey. Not as clean or as organized as I would like. I prefer ordering online to shopping at this store.

Worse place to take your dog for a groom. I’m not much of writing reviews but honestly, this is not fair, and I’m not even talking about the crazy expensive price, I am talking about the fact that my dog has spots around his whole body because the hair cut was a TOTAL DISASTER. Also, for some reason I will never know, he was shaking and looking completely scared when he is never being that kind of dog, if fact, he is the guy who loves being groomed. This is not fair and now we have to see our poor dog licking constantly his bald spots. I’m posting some picture because honestly, this is just unjustifiable. I am also posting a picture of my boy the day before. I’m so so sad and disappointed. Oh, let me mention something else, I had to pay twice because they couldn’t find the first payment my husband did when he drop off our dog, so yes, now I’m going back to let them return us one of the payments. Please, don’t take your dog there. I’m so sad and upset about it…

You always have great options and we find the staff that works there to be knowledgeable and so friendly. We shopped at Pet Smart for years and only recently decided to start coming to petco. Once we gave it a try, we have been changed forever. Love that you guys have smaller brands but also all of the necessities. We can make one big trip there and get all four of our pet's food (they each eat something different) new toys, healthy treats and vitamins. Love it!

Always a good experience getting fur muts groomed here.. very friendly and skilled groomers.. ps to the checkout clerks... Don't pressure people into tipping for groom!

There are more variety of fish compared to the Petsmart germantown. Go to see cool looking fish! There are variety of stone for bottom of aquarium.
