My 11 year old cat Andi needed to get several teeth extracted, and I was so nervous for her since she needed to be put under. After the surgery, Dr. Golden took the time to really explain how everything went down, and definitely put me at ease. On top of that, the entire staff (including my vet tech Dotty) was extremely warm and informative both pre-and post-pickup. The price for all of Andi's work was also extremely reasonable, and they were incredibly thorough in all of the work they provided to Andi!

Good experience friendly staff they were very kind to my dog. He’s an 11 year old lab and got very sick back in July, we treated him and he got better but never knew why he was sick. The vet here helped us figure out it was anaplasma. I trust them to take care of my boy in his senior years

Updated Review- I reported a frustrating long wait with no explanation experience to the folks at Back Cove and they got right back to me with an explanation, apology, and effort to make things right. This last visit we were in and out in under ten minutes. Plus, they treated my cat like a king!

Taking my dog, Willa here was the best decision I could have made when I moved home to Portland! The entire staff went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable, taken care of, and prepared for our appointment. The veterinary technician and veterinarian were both exceptional! They were friendly, informative, and communicated with me in a way that made me feel very heard as a pet owner. I cannot say enough great things about our experience here and am so glad we found a new favorite vet!

I have taken two dogs here and my boyfriend has taken his two cats - and every single time we have any interaction with staff / doctors it is superb and professional. Good value for money and they are very affordable. Love them and so happy we found them. 5 stars out of 5.

I have been to multiple vets in the area and out of state for emergencies and non-emergencies. I finally switched to take my dog to Back Cove this year, and I'm so glad I did. I don't typically write reviews, but I've had a lot of negative and neutral experiences with vets, all of which are stressful. Back Cove is the first time I've really felt good about working with a vet. My dog has been dealing with a mouth and eye area infection for the last week, and our experience with Dr Golden has been so positive and reassuring. The staff (including front desk and vet techs) have remembered us each time we've had to come in this week, and have been really great about checking in on my dog between visits. The way they approach recommending treatment has been really appreciated - considering "what would I do if this were my dog" while also remaining conscious of cost issues that might come up. Would definitely recommend Back Cove - especially Dr Golden - over other vets in the area, specifically when it comes to quality of attention, active listening, and on-going medical issues.

I adopted my dog at the beginning of the pandemic, so today was the first time actually entering the facility and I was incredibly impressed. My dog, Ruby, has leash frustration triggered by seeing other dogs and I had been nervous all day about how entering/exiting the building would go as I had never had to navigate that with her before. The staff at Back Cove took great care in accommodating us, making sure both Ruby and I were stress-free. Big doggie temper tantrum (and what would have been a very embarrassed dog mama) successfully avoided, all thanks to them! As someone who works both in dog rescue & trains dogs for a living, I’m a big proponent for responsible and safe pet ownership. They will not sacrifice your pets comfort or safety and neither should you by going to a veterinarian who doesn’t value that. I recommend them to all of my clients! You can really tell they’re knowledgeable and passionate about animals :)

This is a fantastic vet! My cats had dental work there recently and they did very well. I could tell that they were well treated and cared for. One of my cats is diabetic and I have received top-notch care for him and my other animals. I highly recommend this friendly, attractive, caring team of veterinarians and staff.

I absolutely love this place , I would not take my cat any where else! Always professional and so patient with my Shoog. Prescription medication has always been timely. Everyone in that office provides customer service that goes above and beyond!

Just moved to Portland not too long ago and I was afraid of finding a vet for my dog but I'm so glad we took a chance on this place! They are so friendly right when you walk in the door. They were super sweet and attentive to my older dog went over everything with me, even going the extra mile to right down the stuff we talked about so I wouldn't forget.

When we moved to Portland, finding a vet for our 6 month puppy was top of our to-do list. In the last 6 months we have spent more time here than anticipated and have nothing but wonderful things to say about the staff and service. No matter how small our concern, the doctors and front desk team are so empathetic, patient and kind. We feel comfortable our guy is in great hands whether it’s for a routine visit, a puppy illness or a grooming appointment with Alissa. We are so thankful to have Back Cove!

Following the Fortins is honestly a dream come true. If you know me, you know I am like a loyal lab! It is so important to me that I follow *good* people, I finally feel I have found people that I am proud and happy to work for. We strive everyday to provide exceptional medicine and care to our patients, (and your pet will probably get *too many* cuddles from me), we are growing quickly and building a team of people who care just as much as Matt & Nicole do. Something that feels wonderful to be apart of! The Doctors and entire staff at Back Cove Animal Hopsital are exceptional, providing personalized, top notch care. After using several other veterinary clinics, where my pets were nervous and, frankly, terrified, I began using Back Cove and have never regretted that decision for a single moment. My pets love it there, as do I. They are always extremely responsive and accessible when I have had urgent situations and approach every situation with kindness, compassion and professionalism. If you are not bringing your pets to Back Cove they are missing out.

They're simply the best. Very compassionate. Can't say enough good things about them.

Lots to love about these guys. When we first started bringing our cats here, we got a hand written card. Who does that anymore? So cute! Recently, my cats have had some health and behavioral issues. I’ve been calling the vet a lot with all kinds of questions and they always give me great information very quickly. I feel like they care about my cats as much as I do and are really invested in their well being. They’ve got that wonderful Maine small business vibe of being real people who care about you/your pets ❤️

I have 2 high maintenance little chihuahuas that don't do well with new people, and Back Cove has been great with them. They are gentle with the animals, and really seem to go out of their way to make sure the animal is comfortable. What I appreciate most about them is that they follow up after each visit to make sure your pet is doing well, and I've never had a vet be so consistent with that outreach. I would highly recommend them to everyone!

Were very friendly & dependable with my cat, Smaug. Have an older cat who gets into everything & tends to have issues with clumping fur as a result. Am I able to get him shaved when I take him in for his check up?

This is a terrific animal hospital / vet service with caring staff and excellent doctors. My pets have received great treatment here, especially a cat who had difficulties and turned out to be diabetic. I have found them to be very responsive and helpful.

EXTREMELY HAPPY NEW CLIENT! My old vet office is closing and I needed a new one for my 8 week old puppy. Back Cove Animal Hospital was recommended by someone in the industry and then by an employee of a local dog store. I was extremely happy with my 1st visit. The staff was very friendly and informative and the Vet was easy to talk to answered all my questions. I was nervous not being able to go in with my puppy but both the vet and staff let me know how he did (much better than expected by all lol). Happy with our new Vet

Amazing work. My dog could never get complete vaccinations at multiple other vets I've tried and couldn't even get calm enough to be sedated. The team here is amazing- I thought it was a fluke with Dr. Nicole but have been back a few times with both Dr. Nicole and Dr. Matt and they've been able to fully treat my dog (with a good treatment of calming meds but no full sedation!). I left here in shock multiple times at how smoothly it went and the good feedback they reported afterwards. I'm so happy someplace cares well for my difficult pup!

New client to Back Cove Vets. Although COVID protocols are in place they go out of their way to make sure your and your pet are totally involved in care and health and yet safe. I am SO pleased that I chose them for my kitty's care. Glad to recommend them to you

My boy had a tragic and rather rapid decline in health. The staff here were very empathetic, professional, and real with me. I'm grateful to them for helping him feel better in his last few days and although it was still agonizing to say goodbye, they made the process easier.

The staff have a wonderful way of connecting with both my pet & I (me) (what ever). A healing, compassionate, possitive experience for us both! Just wonderful. Thank you Back Cove. 5 star's????
