My cat had a problem at midnight and they were helpful. Took a while because a bigger emergency came through but other than that good service

We were in and out at the emergency clinic in one hour. They were so understanding and kind. I’m very thankful for their help!

I can not express how great the staff was. Taylor was absolutely amazing with our puppy and was patient in answering all our concerning questions. They eased our mind and were excellent. Definitely thankful we were recommended to them. I can not recommend them enough!!

Very rude, every time. Consistently terrible phone etiquette, you can actually count on being on hold for so long that you could drive all the way to the clinic, play ding dong ditch at their door and drive back, and you’d still be on hold. And then when they finally answer you, they’re rude like you brought jello salad to thanksgiving instead of pumpkin pie. Like what did I ever do to you??

My cat was very sick on a Sunday afternoon and since my vet was closed they referred me to Sherwood South Animal Emergency. A technician took my cat shortly after I arrived, so I thought this might not be so bad. I was very wrong. After 2 hours of being separated from my cat I asked the front desk clerk for an update. She was very unfriendly from the moment I checked in until the time I walked out the door 6 1/2 hours later. She couldn't tell me anything except they were busy. After 4 hours I finally got into a room, but it was over an hour before a tech came in and told me that they were getting ready to look at my cat. I had been there 5 hours and my cat had been locked in a cage and still had not been cared for. Jenna, the tech was so rude, and when I asked why I had been waiting so long without any updates of any kind and why I had been separated from my cat for so long she told me that there was a shift change in doctors. That is unacceptable! Dr. Rachel was very unprofessional. She kept having to leave the exam room to look over tests or something and come back. She was so disorganized. She couldn't even explain to me the x-rays she took or the results of the blood work. She kept saying she didn't want to speculate, which is a stupid statement to make to a patient. Why was I there then??? The only thing she did do right was diagnose her with a UTI and give her an antibiotic. I also, took my cat back to my regular vet for a follow-up and told them about my horrible encounter and they said I wasn't the only one that had complained about Sherwood South Animal Hospital and would take it under advisement. After spending $903 and 6 1/2 hours with an entire staff that was rude and unprofessional I can honestly say I won't be back. I will find another emergency vet in the event I need one in the future. I definitely do not recommend this emergency animal center to anyone.

My dog had a blockage and they saw it when our other vet didn't. The staff was understanding and patient with him. I had to leave him there overnight. I just took him so I can't say how that went yet, but so far so good I guess.

The Emergency Vet Service is horrible! They are just extortionist. $300 up front. Ok. They will take your pet to the back and you wait. And wait. An hour goes by. I sternly demanded to see my cat as they only had one other client and they were waiting as well in a room. The pet mom came out and told the receptionist that they had been there over an hour and no one had seen her puppy yet. More waiting. They send us to a room but my cat isn’t there. Extortionist number 1 comes in and ask all the same questions the receptionist noted when we got there. Did no one read the intake chart?! She says they need another $300 for what they need to do for my cat. Paid that. I ask them to bring my cat into the exam room with me. More waiting. I knock on the inner sanctum door since I can hear talking and laughing in there. It goes quiet. 10 min later extortionist #2 comes in. They don’t know what’s wrong with my cat but need $3000 more dollars to get a vet to look at his brain tomorrow. (My cat had seizures). Omg! She says they gave him a sedative shot and he’s out of it. My husband and I say we can’t pay that and want out pet so we can leave. Extortionist #1 comes back and says we can’t leave until we sign papers basically a guilt trip statement that we are refusing care for our pet. Let me say that our sweet cat was 10 years old, as well as my husband being treated for cancer so that amount was not in the budget! They were not even hopeful that the vet could pinpoint what was wrong for the $3000. Could be this, could be that, could be contagious etc. We finally had to get stern and demand our cat be returned to us. As we are leaving they assure us they didn’t charge us the additional $128 we owed them for the sedative shot, like we should thank them or something. My boy died later that night in my arms. My regular vet told me they will no longer refer patients there because it isn’t the first time they’ve heard of that with them. Save yourself some heartache! Stay away! Updated- No thank you Ashley. I don’t care to CALL you. But if I can prevent any other pet parent from having to endure the treatment you showed us and our beloved kitty as well as the ONE other pet Mom there at the time who complained, I’ll post this review to save them!

My dog loved going here over his life and when it was his time we brought him back for one last visit where the staff was incredibly respectful and professional and the procedure could not have been conducted any better. Thank you.

We expected an emergency vet to treat our situation as an emergency. Sadly though, our sick baby had to lay on the hard, cold floor for over 2 hrs and never saw a vet, had X-rays, or any bloodwork. There was only one other patient when we arrived and they were done an hour after we got there.I kept asking how much longer and was told you’re next, only 10 more minutes, after the third time being told that I left. Hopefully our fur baby will make it through the night while we wait for his regular vet to open.

Absolutely by far the best staff I have ever dealt with at any vet. Although, I didn't use them as my vet- I brought my dog in because she was very sick. I had to end up putting her down and the staff was wonderful, caring, and empathetic. I chose to bring my dog home with me to bury her on my family's land. I do think she should have been put in a box, but instead she was wrapped up in plastic and a towel was put over her. I've had to put my dogs down in the past and they were always put in a box. I'm not sure if this is their protocol- but I was not prepared for that! Again-- AMAZING staff! They also charge double compared to most places....here I am about to put my dog down and they say "your total is $550". Still can't get over it

Very upset after contacting Sherwood after spending over $1000 in the past 2-3 weeks to ask someone with some knowledge a question that would determine whether or not our dog needed to be seen again immediately or whether or not it could wait until morning . Should have someone that has a little knowledge or could ask someone that would know that answers the phone at the “emergency “ vet.

I really like this place. They treat your dog like a human in the sense that they are going to try the easy stuff first and then move on from there. I don't feel like I am getting screwed over because they just recommend the most expensive treatment when I am being overly paranoid. Hands down one of the better vets in town. My only concern is their boarding which sounded like the dogs technically don't get any play time with other animals. I was a little disappointed by this but at the same time I understand for legal reasons why they don't do it. It would be nice if it was offered even if you had to jump through hoops.

These people ???? Terrible service. Got there with my pup who hurt his arm and couldn’t really walk. They made me wait outside then let me in after a while. I was the only one in there yet I waited for an hour and still didn’t see a vet so we had to leave. Didn’t have all day to sit there and wait. When I asked the vet if anyone was about to come, he said “ma’am we’re an emergency hospital, so we’re busy with more important things,” when really they’re just hanging around chit chatting. Will not be going here again. They don’t really show any care or consideration for clients/patients in my experience. Not to mention, it’s very unclean in the rooms… pretty sure they hadn’t swept the floor in about a year.

I can’t thank the staff enough for everything they did for my cat, Boo. She was just diagnosed with cancer at another clinic and had to be hospitalized over the weekend. They were so accommodating and let me visit her every day. They kept me updated every day and never pressured me to leave when I was there for my visit. They also have a great relationship with the other clinics that Boo was connected with through this really rough time. I plan to start bringing my dog to them in the future. I was very impressed and it was an absolute pleasure to have them take care of her. I knew she was in good hands as soon as I checked her in. Thank you!

$900.80 - 13 teeth extracted here at S Sherwood Animal Hospital $51.54 - 5 teeth extracted in Knoxville, TN. Buyer beware; Numbers for comparison of just tooth extraction part of procedure. Not sure what changed between Vet in Knoxville and Vet in BR. Otherwise pet seemed well taken care of and staff polite.

I could not ask for any more from the team at Sherwood South. We brought our pupper Boomer in because he lost control of his back legs. They were quick to get us a room as close as possible to our little buddy. Dr. Albarado came in, did his diagnostics, found the problem and discussed a treatment plan with us right away. He made us extremely comfortable and discussed all of the risks and options for Boomer’s recovery and put our minds at ease. He requested Boomer stay the night for steroid treatments and I knew he would be in great hands. The techs kept us in the loop and updated us frequently, also discussing any change in price immediately. I literally could not ask for a better experience after the traumatic event we just went through. They acted quickly to get our boy taken care of. I think Boomer just found his new primary care Vet. Thank you so much Dr. Albarado and team. We are so grateful.

Although the outcome was not what I wanted, the care and compassion was very evident in every one we met there. Truly a blessing in a dark time.

We took my mom's elderly Boxer in last night due to her having severe seizures. She ended up having to be put to sleep. Of course, we were all extremely upset. The vet and the staff were so very kind and caring. They allowed us to take all the time we needed with Lacey and never pressured us on any decisions. The vet loved on Lacey with us as he administered the medication and assured my mom that she was making the best decision. Mom decided to take her home to bury her. They handled Lacey with care, wrapped her and laid a blanket over her with her collar on top of her. They offered condolences and offered my mom comfort and treated us, and Lacey, with dignity. Highly recommend this hospital.

Brought my dog in after hours for an emergency visit. The staff was very friendly and good with my dog. The Vet that saw her clearly explained everything he needed to do or recommend. He also let me know the cost of anything they did before doing so. I was happy he was so thorough with her exam to see exactly what was going on. The emergency visit, exam, labs, X-ray and meds (script) cost wise ran about what I expecting, nothing out of the ordinary for an emergency visit. Im really glad everyone was so friendly, my dog was very comfortable with the staff, I’m very pleased with knowing she was completely checked out and is being treated properly for the issue. I’d absolutely bring her back here for vet visits.

people were nice but didn’t get give us much time alone and rushed us out when we had to put our kitten down. also, it should not cost $300 JUST to put an animal down.

We brought our 5 week old kitten, Smudge, in for an ER visit this week. While she is still not able to come home, I could not ask for a better team to be taking care of her. Everyone has been so friendly and helpful with all of our questions and they make sure to update us on any changes in both her health and costs. I hope she gets to come home soon but I feel confident that she is getting amazing care around the clock with this team. I love that they pull you into private rooms to meet with the vets and discuss costs. They are a bit more expensive than a standard vet,but I want to point out to anyone complaining about that -they have staff working there 24/7, plus high end equipment. Its going to cost more. It is well worth it. The emergency room costs more for us too than a normal physician. We definitely will be returning. For any issues with our fur babies in the future.

My wife found a stray cat hit by a car. We went here to have it put down. Which they won’t do until they stabilized it first and gave it pain medicine. Hours later and we’ll over 300 dollars later, it is finally done. Will never come here again!

Our border collie was hit by a car which brought us to Sherwood Hospital. The doctors, techs, staff were top notch with the care and compassion that not only our baby but ourselves received. We didn't think we would ever bring her home but 2 weeks later she is home and it is only due to the excellent care she received in their care. We are eternally grateful to each and every person that cared for and loved her. Your dedication gave us our family member back and that is a gift that could never be repaid. Thank you so much.

Had to recognize how great my pet’s ER experience was here. I had to bring her in close to 2am when I realized she was very sick. They were professional, fast, and communicated very well. Everyone was really nice! She had AHDS and was hospitalized overnight for dehydration along with several other symptoms. She was able to come home last night and will be on meds the rest of the week ❤️ Thank you to Dr. Crystal Salvato and the techs for taking care of my baby! ???? Side note: my pet insurance provider had no problem covering the costs of the itemized bill :)

I visited Sherwood South Animal Hospital recently with a sick 7 year old cat. The visit was after hours, so I expected prices to be a little higher. As soon as we got into the treatment room, we were told that bloodwork and consult would be $350... that's before we did anything to treat what was wrong with the cat. I reluctantly agreed and they took our cat into another room to begin the examination. This was a little different from veterinary visits I've had in the past... the vet usually examines the pet in the owner's presence. At any rate, less than two minutes after taking our cat into another room for examination, the technician returned and said that the cat's bladder was completely full and to relieve that (catheterize?) and begin treating the cat would be around $2500. Also, that the cat (and our others) would all have to be switched to prescription cat food for the rest of their lives. I was stunned by the price and asked the technician to please give my wife and I a private moment to discuss. She left the room and returned a few minutes later. We told her that we weren't willing to spend $2500 on treatment for the cat and asked how much it costs to euthanize the animal. At that point, she suggested that we might apply for a credit card. I explained that I didn't need a new credit card, just a price for the euthanasia. She left the room and returned offering to treat the cat's bladder for $650, but that it was a temporary solution. At that point, the whole thing started to seem like a used car lot. We wound up leaving our cat there to either be euthanized or adopted by some "Angel" who pays for procedures like this on cats. Only after all of this did I look at all of the reviews for Sherwood South Animal Hospital. The night our cat was sick we didn't have time... we looked for someplace open and nearby. I must say that many of the negative reviews for this business seem very accurate and reflect the experience we had there. I would not recommend taking your pet to Sherwood South unless you hate money and hate your pet. Then it's a good fit. Beware.

Sherwood South is hands down the highest caliber of vet care in the Baton Rouge area. They have done nothing but right by me and my sweet kitten, Gatsby. Gatsby was recently really sick and needed hospitalization. The doctors and team of committed employees were the best I could have hoped for. They constantly kept me updated, provided the absolute best care and gave him lots of love for me. Ignore other negative reviews because they obviously do not know what they are talking about. My family and I have loved and respected this place since I was a young child gifted with my first puppy, Fudge.

I contemplated whether or not I should write this review - as I have never written a negative review prior to this one (feel free to check) and often refrain from writing any review at all. I ultimately concluded that it would be irresponsible for me to not write this review. This review is in regard to the emergency services (I cannot speak to normal day-to-day vet care). I cannot iterate enough that I would absolutely avoid Sherwood Emergency if at all possible but more specifically I would avoid Gina (vet tech) and possibly Dr. Crystal. If Gina is your vet tech - please, please request another one (we had very positive interactions with other vet techs during the day when Gina was not working). We had limited interaction with Dr. Crystal (mostly interacted with Gina), which did seem strange due to the severity of our dogs's diagnosis (severe pancreatitis). Our dog was inappropriately handled/treated from the start. He sat in a kennel in the front of office without receiving treatment for hours (despite crying in pain and us okaying expenses for anything they needed to do and even asking for pain meds and fluids immediately as this was not our first pancreatitis incident). When interacting with Gina after a night of our dog being hospitalized, she let us know he was not on pain medication and was not in pain. He was loudly crying and clearly in pain and she told me it was dementia - actually, she forcefully argued that he had dementia and was not in pain. This forceful declaration of hers happened over and over despite us reiterating that we knew our dog and this was how he indicated he was in pain and despite us insisting that these were brand new symptoms (balance, head pressing, crying) and not progressive. She told us these of course were not new symptoms and in fact must have been progressive - no matter how many times we indicated that they were new, she did not listen or believe us. (Side note: we did have a neurologist consult in Baton Rouge who indicated they could not evaluate our dog given the electrolyte imbalance being a possible cause of all of the symptoms and later had him re-evaluated in Kentucky post-recovery with the neurologist confirming that it was not dementia and was likely a symptom of his electrolyte imbalance - the 2nd specialist also believed that the mistreatment in terms of time, pain management, and overall treatment severely impacted our dog at that time). We fought for our dog to be put on pain meds and finally Gina agreed. Once his pain was managed, he started eating again and recovering. The second we met with a new vet and new vet tech (non-emergency team and more importantly not Gina), the treatment did a complete 180 (thank goodness). So again, I write this as I would never want another animal to experience what my dog did if going in for emergency services and being assigned to Gina (which may be through Dr. Crystal - I am not sure, as mentioned I can mostly only speak to Gina, less so to Dr. Crystal). Animals deserve better than what my dog experienced and fur-parents should not have to fight the way we did for our dog to receive better treatment.
