The Animal House Richmond, Kentucky

I've read some disturbing reviews that this pet store won’t open their doors because of Covid, but if a family member ends up in the hospital I understand. Anyways, I know I’m going to get perfect service and a fat healthy animal with a phone call, and I know their tanks are spotless. I’m watching my new Cory's happily eating, and watching my plump Angel fish begging in another tank with her new plant, all from Animal House. All I can speak to is fresh water fish, and they have the best. They breed their own Angel's, quarantine new fish, and have all the Seachem products and healthy plants. I'll go to another fish store and end up with a sick fish, so...The same couple has owned this store for over 20 years, they and their son are always happy to educate me on fish, and to make sure I have what I want. This is the best fish store out of any in Lexington and Louisville, and if they treat their exotics like their fish (I'm betting they do) this is the best pet store out of them all.

WONDERFUL SHOP. Beginner, and seasoned aquarium owners stop here. Where to begin? A. For specialty aquarium fish I have found no other shop in the Lexington area that has the selection offered by Animal House. B. Their livestock tanks are individually filtered and medicated. C. Customer service is very personable. If you call and ask about certain fish or problems with your tanks they will likely have a knowledgeable answer. D. Through the pandemic they still offered complete support for our fishkeeping community. E. Carry most fish tank medicine. F. Natural decorations. Dragon stone, NICE spiderwood. Ect. All this from the co parent of 5 Clown Loaches ( aquired here ) 3 Dojo loaches ( aquired here ) Rosy Barbs ( aquired here ) tiger barbs, assorted ( Aquired here ). 3 standard plecos, 4 angelfish, countless yoyo loaches, and mystery snails. 6 tanks in All.

I was first elated by the variety of fish Animal House had. I added 6 khuli loaches an 4 julli corys to some of my tanks. Healthiest fish I have ever received from a pet shop in Lexington. The owners were so friendly and offered to order fish that didn't have directly in stock with their connections for me. Best fish store in Lexington hands down.

I love this place. They've been helping my kids and me keep our fish and aquatic plants alive for about 6 years now and they're so helpful and knowledgeable. Terrific selection of healthy, robust fish and they really know their stuff.

Very dissatisfied with the overall service provided by pet store received a DOA .. store owners won’t honor return for a 2$ fish have spent hundreds here on various live stock in the past , I’m but will no longer do business with them

These people are very rude and wont sell you what you want. Im surprised they are still in business. Every time I have been there or talk to someone that has they say how rude and disrespectful these people are. I hope they go out of business and have to work for someone as rude and disrespectful as they are. I recommend going anywhere but here.

My fish are still alive..

My wife and I bought our first snake from Animal House. We bought a ball python. I just happened to be in the area when I came across their store. I talked to one of the owners about pythons and they were able to not only provide the pet we were wanting, but also were able to recommend all accessories needed. They had new and used accessory options, suggestions on care and food options. They have also been amazing with handling my follow up questions. Locally owned and VERY nice and understanding folks. Highly recommend!!!!!

The best pet store in Lexington. It is family-owned and operated and the owners and their son are always so pleasant. They really take the time to help you and are very knowledgeable. The prices are around the same or better than big chain stores. I will never go to Pet Smart again!

Best pet store I've ever been too.

I wanted to go in to browse the fish tanks and animals and they only have door service which makes no sense to me.

Just moved to Lexington in July and we’ve had a tough time getting our turtle tank set up. They were able to tell me what was wrong, what was needed to fix it, and even wrote directions out to make sure the habitat got exactly what it needed. This is definitely going to be my pet store of choice while in Lexington! Thank you for your help!! For the tank story: When we first arrived, we already had 2 big plecos and several fish. My turtle is 26 years old and she’s been through many moves. The fish were about a year old… once the tank was set and water temp was good, I did what I always do - gently introduce them to the tank. Thought everything was fine. The next morning, all the fish and plecos were dead. I felt terrible… What did I do wrong?? It took about a week and we had to get some fish back in there. Well, even a few of these brand new fish have been dying AND this aquatic turtle started spending 3 days out of water, then 2 more days. Something was up. Apparently, it was a tap water issue. Now we have the detoxifier and crushed coral. She’s back in water and seems to be feeling much better! THANK YOU!!!!

Covid restrictions are lifted yet their doors stay closed. Of course they will bring things up front for you to see but who wants to shop that way? Are you going to bring fish to the front of the store? How can I be sure your tanks look clean and disease free?

I can say this place should be one to make bussiness owners dreams turn to life. This store I have been going to for more years than I can remember. So from the time I was young when they were the ones I got my first pet from and how here I am older and still getting my pets from them.by far they are # 1 in my eyes and I want to share this with everyone so others can enjoy great health pets as all the ones I have and tell everyone how important it is to support a local small bussiness own who has served lexington for this many years.

Very nice store with informed and kind employees who love animals.

I cannot rate the quality of the store because they won't admit customers even after the Governor's unconstitutional COVID restrictions were lifted. I find it likely this pet store won't be in business much longer. I hate seeing a local business like that die but that is a natural consequence of not admitting customers. Especially when the business shares an adjoining wall with a competitor that does facilitate customers.

They are the best fish store in Lexington. All their fish are healthy and in their own tanks. If you’re looking for healthy fish that won’t bring disease into your tank this is the store!

I have shopped there for years and never had any issues with service, equipment, or fish that I've bought. I'll continue to shop there exclusively for all of my fish and supplies.

I use to go here all the time for reptile stuff and even gave them my California kingsnake which they homed almost immediately. They have good variety of pretty much anything you need. By “they” I mean the wife and kids. The family is all nice but the 2 stars comes from the goofy husband that decided to follow me around the store and accuse me of stealing. Which I don’t know how/why he couldn’t watch from across the store since both of his eyes look in different directions. This would be a 4-5 star without him

I was a bit skeptical because they don't allow people inside because of Covid, but when I walked up to the door I was greeted and told about the restrictions, but that they were willing to help in any way possible. I looked on their website for a particular fish that is suprisingly hard to find, and they had them in stock! I called and the woman that helped me was extremely helpful, she got me a male and female of the fish I requested, and they are beautiful. She also helped me make the right choice of food for them just over the phone, and that was extremely helpful. This is the best place to go for fish in Lexington! They are extremely helpful and very friendly, even if you go soon before they close. Definitely will recommend them to anyone, and will exclusively go there for my fish while in Lexington.

This place is amazing. I have only been dealing with them since Covid-19 procedures so I have not been in the store, but they always have what I need and I really appreciate their response to the very real pandemic. I have a beautiful school of rummy nose tetras that had great color on day 1 from the store, which means they were well fed with a good diet and well taken care of. It is often the case that fish can come home pale and take time to get vibrant colors to return. Not the case here. I will be making another order soon.

I love this place! Before the quarantine I would just go over and watch all the beautiful fish. They helped me really get into the fishkeeping hobby. This family business is the only place I trust to sell me high quality fish and inverts. Cannot recommend this place or these people enough!

Wonderful little pet store. I go for fish so I have no idea how their reptiles or rodents are but the fish are always very healthy, and I've been getting fish from here for about a year. Very friendly and knowledgable staff. Couldn't recommend this place more.
