70 lb dog vs 4 lb dog. Took 4 lb dog to Dr. Magnum. Sutures, xray, two night stay, pain meds, antibiotics given. Cost $500, Dr. says nothing wrong just soreness. Picked up dog, didn't feel right. Told Dr. Magnum going for second opinion. Dr. Magnum says no need, waste of money. Went for second opinion, more xays, two night stay. Found THREE BROKEN RIBS, CHIP FRACTURE OF SCAPULA, severe dehydration, infected sutures, needed IV antibiotics and fluids. Cost $436. Still sore, but at least we got the correct diagnosis. Would not recommend Appalachian Animal Hospital. There is a reason for the poor ratings.

Terrible vet my family has known him for years and killed many of my dogs and my family’s cows and goats. Don’t trust this Dr magnum guy.

Charged $250 to put a sick dog to sleep and an extra $50 cause you use a card and not cash. Would not recommend this establishment or this Vet to anyone. After a few days went by and my daughter and I had to go pick out an Urn for her deceased dog we found out that he overcharges for cremation charges as well which he does not do this himself. He is making money off of dead animals and not giving the extra money to the crematory. Total of all of this was $500. I beg you do not take any pet to this man. This isn’t over. He will he reported to everyone that we can report him to which include the board of veterinary medicine. This man does not need any sort of medical license!

This man is a liar and a thief. He has no business working with animals. Do not bring your animals here if you love them and want a shot at them surviving. He is a quack of a vet.I’d leave negative stars if I could.

We took our raccoon she’s 6 months old was perfectly healthy and let them spade her and give her shots. $450 which is fine she’s our baby but since they touched her she’s not eaten in 5 days and laying lifeless, we called them yesterday and took her in she has an infection from the surgery and they charged us $250 for something that was their fault. Today is worse not eating and laying around like she’s not gonna make it… a perfectly healthy baby girl until this vet laid their hands on her and yes we’re also gonna do something! If she doesn’t make it we will also be hiring a lawyer! So we called them today and let them know how’s she’s doing worried to death, ofc they say bring her in, we brought her in yesterday and you changed us for something you caused and you will today also! I promise you I’m gonna talk to my attorney, people’s fur babies shouldn’t get this bad after seeing a vet when they were perfectly healthy before you saw them!

DO NOT TAKE YOUR LOVING PETS HERE! They do not have bed side manner, they do not communicate well, and the doctor and front of house are giving me different stories. Took my dog in at 8am to have them look at him (I called at 730am and told them my worries and they told me to come in) at 5:30pm still no updates and told my dog would not be staying the night. I drive the hour to get there to see them in the back just now touching my dog at 740pm. He was sitting in a cage all day and they didn’t even touch him. I got there at 740pm and they told me he now needs to stay the night and have NO IDEA WHAT IS WRONG A WITH MY DOG. I get here next day and hear my little dog SCREAMING in the back. I will NEVER USE THIS TRASH PLACE AGAIN. I am so upset and this was the worst experience with a place I have ever had. No professionalism at ALL. DO NOT TAKE YIUR DOGS HERE!!!! I STILL HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE ISSUE IS WITH MY DOG!!!!

Our cat had his back end ran over. I took him here because it was the only place open. We were told he had to have his leg amputated. I told the vet he had a bowel movement with blood in it and I thought he had internal injuries. He said he was only bruised. He was left overnight in the shape he was in. I got the call the next day that he had passed due to internal injuries. So I had to go pick up my girls cat and was charged $388. I only gave one star because it wouldn't let me rate them without it. My opinion no stars!

Very rude place and doesn't actually care about animals at all.. Just in it for the money!

Nope. Great for payment plans but horrible smell from the birds. It has an emergency room open at all times but only one doctor. We were here about 9:45 and the doctor didn’t come in until 10:45. We had an emergency. The staff could use some training and customer service tips. Don’t come here unless you have no other options.

Dr. Mangum is the most kind and caring veterinarian. Had an unfortunate emergency late in the evening. Thankfully we were able to come to his office and get my dog taken care of and he saved her life. He was very comforting and kind in what was a very traumatizing situation for us. I can't thank him enough for not only saving her, but for how he treats his customers and their pets. Very nice guy. As well as the ladies that work there. This will be our new vet!

Over seven years ago they saved our dog, MJ from respiratory failure. After moving back home four years ago Dr Mangum has taken care of our family duck Duchess, and continued to provide excellent care for Mary Jane, our 12 year old pom chihuahua mix he once saved. I will be bringing all my critters to Dr Mangum. Also! TK made our baby feel so special and safe! She is beyond excellent and very compassionate. MJ is usually reserved and hesitant but she adored her! Your critters couldn't be in more loving hands!

I simply called this veterinarian office to schedule an appointment for my 5 month old pup and the employee was to say the least rude. I had a few questions about the cost of course. She says to me the yearly is $180. And that there is a $45 fee for the office visit and an exam. 1st off, my dog is fine. Secondly, I have to pay to sit in your waiting area when I'm making an appointment and should be in one minute, out the next? Thirdly, when I ask if the porvio and heart worm shot was available to buy in stores, she said she didn't know. She is a veterinarian. How is she not going to know that answer? How about? "No sir a veterinarian is the only place you can get those types of shots so it would be best if brought your dog in." The only reason I gave them 1 star is because that's the only way I could write a review. So I am sorry, but I would not recommend this veterinarian office to anyone. If they couldn't answer that simple question, then how could I trust them to exam my dog and tell me if he's healthy or not? Nope not this place.

Didn't do anything to help my bearded dragons. They never gave us any kind of update and ignored our phone calls multiple times

I brought my cat Zeus in because he has a urinary blockage and it's already been 2 days he's had it. When I got there the lobby was closed due to covid and I had to call to have the lady bring out a form for me to fill out. When I was done with the form I called them back so she could get it from me and after she got it she told me it will be about an hour and a half to 2 hours before I could be seen. I said ok and went back home so my cat Zeus wouldnt be squished in his cage while waiting. Then I get a call probably 30 minutes later, not even, and they say they are ready and I said I'm coming right now since I literally live 2 minutes away. I live right by Aaron's on Cosby highway. When I get there the lady says they tried to call but my spot was taken. I told her I JUST told the lady I'm on my way and she said ok. So she lets me in and I notice there was another empty room, so why you telling me there isn't any room and you're all full? Anyways the actual doctor came in and checked Zeus for me and she felt around his stomach and said his bladder is swollen and he needs surgery to remove the blockage. I told her I don't have alot of money because the surgery was $800 - $850. They tried to get me this CareCredit to help pay for it but I was denied. I started tearing up cause I'm losing hope that somebody will help. I had $250 - $300 on me and I would have easily given it to them to start the surgery and they could have kept him there till next week when I could pay the rest. I understand why nobody does payments and I wasn't trying to do that, they could have kept him there till I paid. He can die with 3 - 6 days and it's the 3rd day now. They told me the emergency vets at UT would see him but getting him there is the problem. My car most likely won't make it because it's not a reliable car. I don't have nobody that will help. My mom's car has a shifting problem so her car won't make it, I'm in Newport and that's a long ways but I would do it in a heartbeat. Overall the staff was friendly, the doctor was nice and they did try to help me as much as they could. Even though they didn't x-ray him or prescribe him medicine I took her word for it because I'm sure she knows what she's talking about. The need for money is sickening though, knowing someone's pet could die any day and you send them out the door over money? I understand if they don't have a dime cause nothing in this world is free but when someone has a quarter of the money or almost half they shouldn't be sent away. They didn't charge me, which I appreciate since they did give him an exam. Overall the place is ok and the staff is nice but if you don't have the money on you or you don't have the money or all the money, don't expect them to take your animal and start anything.

I took a puppy for several issues. Went 4 times to finally get told her leg would need to have constant support for 4-6 weeks. It cost me over $600 for three x- rays, three office visits, two antibiotics, a tail amputation and for her leg to be bandaged three times. One of the x-rays wasn’t charged and I assume that is because on my fourth visit, I was incredible upset at the care my dog was receiving. That doesn’t sound too bad until I tell you I got three pups checked, vaccinated, de-wormed, an x-Ray for the injured pup and medicine for the injured pup from my normal vet for less than the cost of a single x-Ray from this place. The care my pup received was incredibly subpar. Took her to our normal vet for a second opinion and was told her leg would be fine without being wrapped and that she should heal nicely in a week or so. The bedside manner for everyone here is awful, with the exception of a worker named TK, who was nice and personable. TLDR; only go here if you HAVE to. And if you need a follow up, go to another vet.

The wait times are atrocious. We had to come in for a check up to see what the weight of our cat is and if a certain medicine was helping her. Our appointment was scheduled for 3pm and we didn’t even see the veterinarian until 5pm.

My wife took my dachshund there for a c section because she couldnt have her puppies natural. My unlicensed wife helped perform the C section 4 puppies were still alive when they were removed then she had to drive home 45 mins away. By the time she got home 2 of the 4 was dead and cold. First of all why are unlicensed people off the street doing work on animals there and second why didnt he warm the puppies up and make sure they were nursing before sending them home. Poor service if you ask me but still he wants $550 he may be wanting for a long time. If hes gonna be a vet he needs to get his workers that are suppose to be trained to do that job. Instead of people that just walk in the door. I could work on somebody and say im a doctor but that dont mean i am one. Instead of me paying him he should be paying me for the loss of my litter.

Good vet reasonable price, they need to learn to prioritize a little better waited almost 4 hours in their office to pick my dog up. Saw countless people come in to do the same thing and left within minutes. I kept asking about it and all they could say is he’s working on the bill for you. Shouldn’t this have been done before you told be to come in and pick the dog up?

I had my Chihuahua here several times. He had surgery on his mouth and Dr.Mangum worked miracles even though Cotton had bone disease.

Dr. Magnum and his staff are the best in dealing with our marmosets! He will see animals on an emergency basis which is great. Any one with animals know that there are some instances when you just can schedule an appointment at a later time and date, your pet needs to see the vet right now! The vet we were using in Chattanooga does not take emergency visits. So needless to say, we are no longer using the vet in Chattanooga for our marmosets!

If you would ask me to grade him two years ago I would’ve gave him a three now I would give him a 1 to 0 he is Has done me wrong I would never take my dog or any of my pets to him and found a new vet

If I could negative stars I would . Dropped my pup off 3 days ago , called everyday since and have been waiting for 4+ hours to pick her up today . Still haven’t talked to the vet himself since the drop off . Very unprofessional , especially when concerned people are calling about their pet . I wouldn’t recommend anyone coming to this vet . Unless you know the guy personally and get a great deal , I’ll never waste my time there again .

I have gotten several animals fixed here and they always do a good job. I have also had to call the vet in an emergency on a Sunday night in middle of night and he drove all the way to town to save my cat and her kittens (she needed emergency c section after long labor and one of babies had got stuck in birth canal and died). He also let me make payments after initial deposit that night which really helped cause it was over 800 dollars to save them. I highly recommend this place, I love them and will forever be grateful.
