Rude and unwilling to get out of their chairs to help anyone. Everyone has the wrong attitude to be in an uplifting place! The older volunteer woman near the front door was very polite.

November my husband and I went to The Topeka Humane Society. We met with a counselor. The cat Zoey had been there for awhile and would be a great match. Zoey, is an 7 month old Tabby and weighs 6.8 pounds. In the meet and greet room. Zoey was brought in to meet us. Her skin was so thin all we could see is bones. I picked her up and had set her back down immediately in fear she was going to break. I think she has worms. Her stomach was sunk in. We have 4 cats at home and cannot take a chance of getting them sick. I had to leave Zoey there. I was crushed. Horrified and heartbroken. Didn’t anyone care? I called the counselor to tell them about Zoey and how sad it was for Zoey to suffer. I was told they don’t have the funding to run proper test Just a couple of days later I got Covid. After quarantine I noticed Zoey was still up for adoption. I could not let Zoey be ignored. We adopted her. At our vet She 5.5 pounds and running a fever. It’s been a week since Antibiotic a deworming shot, quarantine, plenty of water and food our Zoey is so much better! I left a message at the shelter to tell them that Zoey was contagious and other cats have been exposed. Only response we got was “ok”. No concern was addressed at all. I wonder just wonder. Why?

We brought a dog to the facility that was being neglected by its owners last winter during one of the coldest spells we had. This poor thing is left to sleep outside in a hole that he dug in the yard. You could see every bone on him. We contacted animal control in regards to this matter but they didn’t do anything to help him. Then to our disbelief a week later this poor guy is back out in the yard sleeping in the same hole. If it wasn’t for us feeding him and giving him water he wouldn’t have made it. Animal control said that as long as we were feeding him they couldn’t do anything until he had no food or water. I’m sorry but we were not going to just watch him suffer more than he already had. Now it’s winter again and he’s outside in the cold. We will continue to help this poor guy. Now they have gotten a new puppy who gets to enjoy the warmth of the house while this poor guy sits in the cold. I just don’t get how he could be returned to these people without making sure he’s taken care of.

Helping hands humane society is better than it used to be. They try very very hard not to euthanize the animals. They're very caring with the animals and the facilities are clean.

HHHS is such a great asset to Topeka. An acquaintance was having financial difficulty and was unable to afford cat food. HHHS stepped up and helped keep these animals fed so the owner didn't have to make a difficult decision and give them up.

I've never actually purchased an animal from here, but I've taken several of my dogs to their training classes they offer. I love them and so do my dogs! They always got/get so excited whenever we pulled up. They knew exactly where they were and what they were there for. I've taken classes from both Tanya and Travis. They're great trainers, but Travis is my favorite! He did/does very well with my fur babies and is accepting of all doggos. The training classes are priced at a great price as well!

I support adoption over breeding and have always rescued rather than buy and helping hands helps save lives ❤ I have adopted 2 dogs from here. My last passed away at 15+ and I am ready to adopt again.

We shouldn't of had to fill out paper work and wait around for 30 mins to just a dog that was advertised on facebook

Barely ever able to get in contact with anyone. Their website and phone menu say they open at 11:30, but two days in a row I called after 12, and was hung up on. Edit because I'm not sure how to reply on mobile: wow, that-- that explains a lot, thank you. That makes me feel better that it was just a scheduling thing, not.. the receptionist actively being rude. I wanted to adopt a dog, but I ended up finding one through a friend. But thanks for the reply-- I hope you're able to update things alright. I don't have any experience with you guys outside from failing to contact you and your reply, but I updated my review to neutral
