Don't adopt from them. We adopted Olive a pit bull/ Terrier Mix. They lied to us and said she was great with kids. I had to return her 2 weeks later after she bit my child in the face.

We recently adopted our first, sweet furbaby here. I love the process of signing up for an adoption time because I feel like it gave us a more personal experience and the ability to visit with the kitties without being rushed through or run over by others wishing to adopt. The animals are meticulously cared for. The facility is immaculately clean and the employees are patient, kind and knowledgeable. Our little gal has been healthy, playful and loveable ever since we brought her home. Also, whoever does their social media is AHHMAYZING! ;) ;)

We got an amazing dog from the shelter.

I've adopted both my cat and one of my dogs from here and love the care and attention they got at this shelter before I brought them each home.

They really care ab helping ppl with there animals. My puppy is currently up there and is sick. They are taking care of him to figure out what is wrong with him

Terrible service I wouldnt want to be a dog at this place

My daughter was there to take photos of all the animals for her documentary for her class at KU. Everyone was wonderful and very welcoming to us being there. Mu daughter did this to promote adoption of all their dogs/cats/rooster and bunny and gerbils! We have a dog who we adopted from there too. Trigger is such a wonderful sweet dog. Thank you again for allowing us to take photos in your beautiful new building

Great experience even though we didn't go home with a new friend. They took us in even though we didn't have an appointment and worked with us the entire time.

Really nice place, I got my cat there he was 5 months and it only cost $60. They have a large selection of animals I highly recommend getting a pet from the Humane Society.

Lawrence humane society found my cat, and a couple days later told me he was unavailable for adoption at the time since he was past his stray wait. They then had told me they would call me as soon as he was available for adoption, admit to having put a note on the office for everyone to see. Apparently he had gone up for adoption the very next day but I wouldn’t know because I didn’t get a call and by the time I got restless and tried to call again he had been adopted already! Not only that but the lady on the phone tried to redirect blame on me as if I’m irresponsible when I did everything I could and was told to do and they couldn’t stick to the one thing they had said they’d do. Now somebody else has my cat. He’s an outdoor cat he had a collar on and I wouldn’t be as upset if the lady had actually taken responsibility on behalf of the humane society instead of redirecting it to me. Plain rude and unprofessional.

I am updating my review from 2 stars to 5 after receiving direct communication with Shannon Wells, Executive Director. She was incredibly empathic and truly cared about helping both dog and prospective pet parent connect. She went over and above to arrange meeting the dogs I was interested in and ultimately finding my new fur baby! I'm so excited to bring her home and am so grateful for Shannon's understanding and help turn this situation around. I truly appreciate her efforts and will be forever grateful. I have found my fur-baby! Called to schedule appt., was told you must schedule on-line beginning at 9 am; was online at 8:55 am, tried straight up at 9 am, first showed availability all day; selected noon and then showed NO AVAILABILITY. I called and basically said too bad; must use system. With all the dogs that need homes why is it so hard to simply visit the dog???? I arranged my whole day for this day to visit a couple dogs, now nothing, not even one. Guess they'd rather keep the dogs in the shelter! This is more than frustrating, it's emotionally draining; you'd think they'd understand that.

We found a cat to welcome into our family super quick. They are very efficient, cover all of the questions you might have and really take care of their animals!

It is a thorough process, expect to answer questions and be patient! With that said, everything here is smooth, friendly and courteous. Adopting a pet is a big take on and I appreciate the time they invest in matching people with their best fit. They were not overbearing or borderline invasive like some other places that make adopting so difficult, but they do care and take it serious. I'm the happy owner of a Australian Cattle Dog puppy thanks to these helpful folks!

Our experience was very good. Streamlined. We walked in and within an hour we had our new baby. Perfect.

Open the doors to the public to come visit without an appointment like the good ol day's. I for one was a bit taken back, you would think it would be better to have the place open to anyone who would love to adopt a pet. No, they'd rather keep pets in prison

Best place to find a furry friend

We were lucky and got our new fur baby this week and have had no issues with him at all! He’s so loving and calm for him being a big boy, thank you LHS for helping us find Chewbacca.

We made an appointment to have Madeline spayed and the staff was great.

Covid issues hinder personal one on one contact with animals as well. I would've waited had I known.

I think they did a good job for my daughter it's just crazy to have to put a mask on outside. People need to get educated on wearing off mask. Especially outside and in cars.
