I took my two dogs, Ziggy & Nala to Family Pet Vet for years. My needs were not just normal annual exams (although I’m sure they are great with that!) - Ziggy would go in regularly for acupuncture, Nala had mobility issues later in life and a history of aggression with other vets. Dr. Ryan and the caring vet techs (especially Ben) have gone above and beyond to ensure the most loving, thorough and effective care for my pets. Dr. Ryan would regularly take extra time to call me to check in or answer my never-ending questions. They eventually helped me through the heartbreaking end of life process for both dogs. I cannot imagine a better team to care for my beloved pets - and I see them all interact with other clients/pets the same way. Everyone there is passionately committed to the wellbeing of the animals and the families they serve. When I am ready to adopt a new pet, without question, Family Pet Vet will be part of my new dog’s life every step of the way.

I adopted a heartworm positive dog from Furry Friends and underwent their treatments to get her better. Shortly after, she developed a horrible cough that refused to go away. The doctors here helped me piece together the missing, yet vital parts of her heartworm treatment, such as steroids and did x-rays to see the extent of the damage. I'm grateful for the best care I've received here

Took my 3 year old male cat there because my vet at Value Vet wouldn't listen to me when I said he was having respiratory issues. The older male vet there wouldn't listen either when I explained my cat was having breathing issues. He blew me off and stated it was GI issues. By time he was probably diagnosed by the Vet Hospital it was to late. He was diagnosed with Asthma that turned to severe Bronchitis and his airway was closing down. It was to late to reverse it and I had to let him go. So very agree with both those clinics.

Our pup got super sick out of the middle of no where. We took her into Family Pet Veterinary Center and they were super friendly and explained to us what was going on with her so that we would understand it. Gave us all of our options. They made sure we were completely comfortable with the diagnosis and followed up afterwards. I would recommend them to anyone that is looking for a great vet service and super friendly helpful staff.

Our usual vet wasn't able to see our dog until mid-week but Family Pet Veterinary Center saved the day! Dr. Ryan and his vet tech were gentle, patient, and thorough taking care of our Hami. We appreciated the entire experience!

The only vet I let take care of my dog. Not going to bad mouth others but have had bad experiences other places never here. Always very understanding and super helpful and care just as much as you do for your fur baby

Very friendly staff, but please know your rights under Iowa law around prescriptions for your pets. You do not need to sign or in any way agree to waiving liability in order to receive your prescriptions to be filled outside of the clinic. Iowa Administrative Code 811.12 Veterinary Medicine (811) Standards of Practice (12) 12.3(1)b If a veterinarian prescribes a drug for the client’s animal, the veterinarian shall, upon request, provide the prescription to the client

Dr. Jen is extremely knowledgeable and caring. She takes the time to make sure the owner understands everything that will happen with the pet in a caring and compassionate way. She will take the time to thoroughly answer questions and recommend products or procedures needed.

Very friendly and fair prices. Originally started the puppy care program with their sister clinic in Norwalk and there was no issue transferring it. Always easy to schedule an appointment.

Very close to home, but I chose it over others because of reviews from others, their response and helpfulness in est. care for my newly adopted lil guy, and a couple of (K)Courtney's in office and I am one, as well..I've never been a part of that many in same spot before--so I kinda had to!

Nice staff. Very quick at attending to the animals. However, I only give 4 stars because I had asked for an estimate on something and didn't receive it until 2 days later, after calling them both days.. also, when my pet when being diagnosed they ended up coming at every angle with what "should" be done, when really it just seemed they wanted my money. Example: my cat has an ear infection. They wanted to do a lab on his ears for extra cost, even though the ear drops would suffice.

My dog, Wilson, gets excited when I say it is time to go to the vet! They are always friendly and caring when I go there. The prices are very reasonable and their service is professional. I never have to worry if I need to go out of town and find somewhere to board him. They take regular walks and lots of petting! I highly recommend this clinic for veterinary care and boarding.

Our experience with one of the doctors was fine, but the other was incapable of vaccinating our dog. He is very afraid of needles and she poked him multiple times without getting the vaccine in. She said “I can’t do this!” And walked out. She was very rude to my husband. Our dog was traumatized and we had to switch clinics because he was so scared to walk back into their building.

We have received nothing but the best care from all the staff and veterinarians working here. Our dog loves coming to the vet if even just to pick up food.

Outstanding team of veterinarians. I volunteer and foster for a local rescue organization and have taken three cats to both their Norwalk and West Des Moines locations. My vet at the time had been unfavorably treating one of the three cats with no luck. After 5 months of trying to find a diagnosis for her, I decided to try Family Pet. I was seen promptly, and left with a plan for her. She was suspected to have IBD. After seeing them, she improved. Took her for an ultrasound (they have so much equipment and know what they are doing!) and confirmed she was suffering from IBD. Within a week, she felt better, was gaining weight, and her accidents were dwindling quickly. I was so impressed and so relieved that she was comfortable and we knew what we were going to do for her. I have since taken in two more cats to the West Des Moines location and met with Dr. Jen. She spent almost an entire hour looking at one of cats that was in horrible condition. She sent me home with medications for him and he improved! It was heartbreaking to see him suffer, but after seeing Dr. Jen you can imagine what a comfort it was for both him and I. I am taking him back to have his teeth fixed up and nurse him back to health. I was shown better ways to clean their ears, their eyes and information on what to look for and thorough intructions on how to treat my other cats I foster. They carry an additive to add to their water for dental care and that is a proactive approach I appreciate so much. Dental problems can cause so much damage to your pet, wow. I would strongly suggest that everyone take their pets in for regular dental checkups. It is SO important. The third cat was seen for a general wellness checkup and is my own personal pet. He is feline herpes positive and my previous vet had told me he had a polyp in his ear and it could be removed. She charged me for surgery to remove it, I picked him up and she advised me she had tried to remove it but could not and had ruptured his eardrum in the process. He returned home with me and I continued to moniter his ears. There was no sign of damage at all to that ear. After seeing Dr. Jen she promptly advised that he did not have a polyp after all. (I was relieved, but irritated that I had spent almost $400 at my previous vet to treat it. Money down the drain.) His teeth were also in poor condition due to the herpes virus. She removed four of his teeth which she showed me had to come out. He was back to crunching his food in a week. Imagine my relief?! I wasted so much money and time before going to Family Pet. I was frustrated beyond belief. Everytime I have taken a cat to Family Pet and seen Dr. Jen we have resolved their problems. Anyone who wants to adopt a rescue cat wants them to be in excellent health. I can send them home with a new owner now and have faith that they will enjoy them to the fullest and I can confidently say they are in excellent health and provide them with accurate documentation to prove it. I cannot praise them enough. Don't waste your money going somewhere with no results. Its hard on your pet and hard on you. I am a lifetime client with them. When my fosters are happy, I'm happy. I strongly recommend you take your animal(s) in to see them and see what is going on. We as humans cannot see and know the hidden issues that may be taking away years from your pets life and your time together. Noone wants to give up even a day with their animal, thats for sure. We signed up for the Care Credit program (which you can use yourself for personal services you need, eye care, medical care, a long list of things) and I can't stress enough to get this and have it. Your pet might be good today, but may have an issue in the near future. Noone can know. The fear of not knowing how to pay for an emergency is removed with this program. Have it, use it for proactive care. Especially dental. No more insurance programs you pay monthly for. No more wondering what is covered or pre existing. It covers it all and you just use it ad you need it.

The staff were very loving and caring towards my furbaby. She has never been boarded in her life. I brought her in for a nail trim. Three days later she had kennel cough. I thought is was curious.

Best vet around! We are so happy we changed to Family Pet Vet. I am so happy with their care. They are great to the whole family. They let my four year old listen to his dogs heartbeat. I could not ask for a nicer and caring place to take my dogs! I forgot add that they also sent me a homemade thank you card (though it looks very professional) and it is so cute and thoughtful.

This vet's negligence cost me a trip to the emergency vet to fix what he messed up. The ladies at the front desk were great but the tech was terrible. He wouldn't listen to me about my shepherd mix or her history. Tried to tell me I had never properly vaccinated her when I had records from my vet in KC. Then the vet, Dr Tim, was the same way. I was very clear that my dog had a history of GI tract issues and that she had been on prescription food for it for years now. He prescribed her an allergy medicine for some itching she had been experiencing but never mentioned any side effects it might have. Less than two days later I had to rush her to the emergency vet for severe diarrhea and vomiting only to find out that a side effect of the medication he prescribed her is upsetting a GI tract and shouldn't be given to dogs who have a history of a sensitive GI tract. The next day I called this office to make a complaint to whoever owned the practice and received a phone call back from Dr Tim. All he had to say for himself was that it seemed like he "definitely dropped the ball communicating the side effects with me" and that he was sorry. I will never take my dog back to this place. I recommend anyone who does to make sure they specifically ask for any and all side effects of any medication prescribed to their animal because clearly that is not important information to these people to communicate up front.
