Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. They'll take very good care of your pet, try to work around your schedule, and make sure you're well informed on remaining at-home care.

New to the Des Moines area and needed a local vet. My dog is a little over two and has gone to the vet many times for checkups, shots, etc. but was always pretty nervous and didn't like it too much. When I initially booked an appointment, Avondale had me fill out all these forms including a "No Fear" form asking detailed questions of what my dog was like at the vet and how it could go better. I really thought it was just some "check the block" thing but I could not have been further from the truth. I notated that my dog normally was better with females than males with new people. Female vet tech and female doc were the ones that helped us. Check. I also mentioned that people on his level always made him more comfortable. Well, I can tell you that there was a doctor and a vet tech laying on the floor with my dog and he could not have been happier. The whole experience was fantastic. I was unsure of a few treatments and vaccines but instead of pushing me, they provided education pamphlets and let me know to call if I had any questions after I was able to do my research. Long story long, I am very happy that I am able to take my dog here to wonderful people who treat my dog fantastic. We have found our vet for as long as we are in Des Moines.

We had a really good experience here. We had taken our Labrador to a couple vets but ended up referred here. Avondale have been extremely helpful, communicated everything proactively and clearly, and even came in under the original estimate. We were lucky to end up here and we would absolutely trust them with our doggo anytime in the future.

I was appalled by the response I received when I needed emergency care for my very sick dog Luke. "We don't take walk-ins", is what I was told when I called this hospital. Excuse me you are a pet hospital! Should I have planned ahead and made an appointment for this?

This is a really good veterinarian they truly care about animals and it's not even a terrible experience for my pets.

My Daisy (4 year old Jack Russell Terrier) stayed here this last week and weekend. She was happy with her stay. Thank you for taking care of my girl. I will book again.

I have used this place several times for boarding and my dogs love it here! It says a lot about a place when your dogs are excited to go in and not have to drag them. The staff here are very friendly and always helpful when i have questions.

They were amazing with Ash and very affordable.

Dr Hollander has taken care of our cats for years and done an amazing job! We lost one cat to cancer only after Dr Hollander gave Mittens an additional 4 years of a great life (after a local veterinary office wanted to put him down immediately). Our other cat, Frodo, has also benefited many times over seeing Dr. Hollander & the staff at Avondale. Thank you all from the Duggan people & cats! :-)

I was very impressed with Avondale as we recently had our cat have an ultrasound at the advice of our regular Vet. They were attentive to her needs as well as ours and made the visit most pleasurable. I would highly recommend the staff at Avondale and would trust them with any of my pets.

Avondale was a VEEY caring, VERY professional, and EXTREMELY HELPFUL today. I'm truly amazed at how they stepped up to help a friend of mine when they weren't even customers of Avondale.!! Colbie, my 4 year old cat had to undergo full mouth extraction surgery and Dr Groos did a phenomenal job. I would highly recommend Dr Groos and his amazing team for your pet's healthcare needs! They took exceptional care of Colbie and put me at ease before, during and after the surgery. He called to update me with the progress of surgery and Colbie honestly bounced back within days of her surgery. Dr Groos is professional, highly educated, friendly and reliable. Colbie's quality of life has greatly increased thanks to the care she received from VCA. Thank you Dr Groos and VCA for taking such great care of us!

I had a really bad experience yesterday My dog is chikis and I went to take her to the vet and everything was fine but when I went to pick her up she was scared and she was in shock and I thought that everything was normal but NO when we got home I started hugging her and I realized that she had bruises on her chest and she was crying, She couldn't move and she was crying all night and she don’t want to go for a walk and don’t want to leave the house , yesterday all day she didn’t want to eat till this morning but she still in shock I would never take her to that place .
