We have adopted two animals from Animal Care in the past. A Great dog named Mandy and a crazy cat that I have fallen in love with Manny, We changed his name to George Sickens. We support A.C.& the Christmas Bazaar every year. They are animal loving and caring folks.

Adopted a kitten and the staff were great. One volunteer was very helpful and friendly. A very busy and hectic day yet everyone was so nice. The entrance is somewhat hard to fund. Enter through what seems to be a parking lot (but is not) for Rooties Sports Bar

Theses folks do a great service to both man and beast. It's a win win for our community and our poor, too often mistreated dogs and cats. They need our support in any way we can offer.

My dear friend adopted a dog here yesterday and had a horrible experience. Staff didn’t tell her the dog was food aggressive, had infected ears and was dog aggressive. When she got home and the pup bit her other dog and snapped at her when she tried to feed him. She had him less than 24 hrs and had to return him for the safety of her other dog. Hannah the manager and Jenny said no refunds, no applying the funds towards a future adoption NOTHING. JUST OUT $350 They said the dog was examined by a vet but look at the pics of the dogs ears. Any vet or tech should have caught and treated him. This organization is just awful. It’s heartbreaking for the animals.

Amazing place. Adopted our kitten today and couldn't be more happy. Everyone is friendly and professional here. I highly recommend this place. Please go and adopt your pets here, they are so many beautiful and loving animals that need a home. Halo finally has a home now. Please note, the entrance is not what it shows on the Google map. You have to enter into Rootie's Sports Bar and Grill drive way to get to the Animal Care Society. See pictures that i uploaded.

We adopted our dog Callie here about 15 years ago. She turns 16 in August! When the time comes to adopt again, I know I’ll be coming here. Callie is a wonderful dog and I can’t be happier that we adopted from this shelter.

Worst experience of my life trying to receive an animal. Their standards are way to high to have the living conditions they have for those cats and dogs. All cages and concrete, looks like a jail for animals. I requested a bigger dog, a certain age and a few different breeds. They said due to my living condition (apartment) I was unable to get what I was asking for. They then proceeded to tell me they have one dog I could potentially get and it wasn't at all what I was looking for. I gracefully obliged and looked anyway and upon arrival it was a medium size dog, looked and acted aggressive and looked pretty sick as well. My wife and child was yelled at by what I assumed was the manager to step on a bleach soaked rag on the floor, not knowing if either one was allergic, the lady was extremely rude to my daughter about this got in her ear and yelled for her to walk on the rag and proceeded to grab her arm and pull her toward it. This is by far the worst place an animal could be and frankly I feel like it should be shut down. It took everything in me to not say anything to these people about everything that happened there, and took everything in me to not report the inhumane conditions these poor animals were living in. We all left very upset about this experience and will definitely never go back or suggest anyone to go there.

They graciously accepted dog food that my dog decided he no longer liked. Glad to donate to them. They serve a great cause.

This facility was extremely professional. The staff was knowledgeable, caring and helpful. The place was spotless. The animals are getting excellent care until adopted. I cannot say enough good things about it.

I am very disappointed they would not let me adopt a puppy because I have a child under the age of 5. The reason “because other people have returned too pets because of kids”. Edit. I’m sorry but I don’t think a puppy is better off in a shelter then with you because you MIGHT bring it back is a good answer. Part of your agreement specified that if something happened we would have to bring the dog back to you with no funds returned to us. If that were the case that would be no different then the dog staying at the shelter during that time.

My local animal service concern is always on the job caring for dogs and cats in need. They are happy to receive donations, whether pet supplies, towels, blankets, cat liitter, or the ever useful, cash.

These people mean well, but their standards are a bit too high. I went to adopt a cat about a month ago, but based on my history. I was denied. I can understand why, but here's the thing: the cat I wanted to adopt is still there. Still living in a 10x10 cement room with a bunch of other cats. I could have provided a good home for that cat. It bothers me that he's still there.

Worst experience dealing with a shelter I’ve ever had. Long story short, in 2018 I was planning to move to Florida and due to the circumstances I had no choice but to surrender my well loved and adored dog to a shelter. A couple of weeks ago I stumbled across a listing for a dog at ACS that very strongly resembles him. I inquired about him and sent pictures and as much info as I could for comparison. I was told conflicting stories and also found out that the story they gave for his background was fabricated. I was finally able to obtain my dogs microchip information and applied to adopt in hopes to be able to see the dog in person. I received a phone call from the staff at ACS basically belittling me because I gave my dog up. I was told they will not adopt to me because of this even though I have been in the same place now for three years. When I told them I had the microchip number for them to check I was told “I don’t have to look up the number, I know he is not your dog.” The lady was rude, hateful, and downright unprofessional. I am all for animal advocacy and ensuring their safety and that they go to a good home so I understand the extensive application and process. However I don’t think the judgement, arrogance, and nasty attitude is necessary.

I’m genuinely so mad. It’s obvious the people here are very unhappy which suchs bc they’re around dogs all day. So rude. So unorganized. So mismanaged. I really wish I would’ve screamed before I left. I do not want to give this place my …

I have had dogs from other rescues and also volunteered as a canine coach for the Humane Society for 10 years. I highly recommend this shelter as they recognize the importance of matching the right breed to the proper owner. These folks absolutely know what they are doing with regards to finding the right home for the animals. Are they overly cautious? Yes, because they want the animal to find a forever home. They worked with me and my German Shepherd for several weeks to make sure every member of our dog family would get along. I can't say enough about their qualifications with the animals. Experts in every way! Scout couldn't be more perfect for us. A cautious adoption process is necessary to find the right home, it is part of their excellence you won;t find anywhere else. Thanks ACS Susan Rabidoux

The staff here was helpful and polite. My boyfriend and I were looking into getting the one dog but he hadn't been tested with cats yet. The lady had him tested while we were there and even let us in the room during the process. They answered all questions and have suggestions on what dogs would be the best fit for us.

Online says closed at 7, but due to Covid they close earlier so they should probably update that. I showed up and there was a women outside and as I was approaching the door she locked it without saying a word to me or informing their hours had changed. I read the sign on the door with their new hours and she still didn’t say anything as she walked to her car. Incredibly rude and I can’t get over that the worker or manager didn’t politely communicate with me. Never going back and it’s a shame you need kitty litter because I would’ve gladly bought your business some. Not now. Glad to see that you finally changed your hours on google because not everyone thinks to look at a Facebook page. The two ladies were correct that we were trying to look at the hours, but what they weren’t correct about is that my girlfriend and I WERE wearing a mask. We were completely six feet apart from them before we had reached the door. They could’ve easily and politely communicated that they were closed or that their hours had changed. Yes, I could’ve read the sign myself (which I did anyways), but I feel like that would’ve been the professional thing to do instead of look at us, lock the door, and walk away without even a simple smile or hello.

Our first time attempting to adopt a dog, and our last. The adoption process is extremely lengthy, which is understandable as they want good people and good homes for the dogs. However, once our application was pre-approved we came to ACS, met the dog and loved her, only to be told 20 minutes later that ACS had made *several mistakes in our application, and because we have not owned that breed of dog before (a notoriously stubborn breed, granted), we will not be able to adopt. A heartbreaking experience, only to be followed by a conversation over the phone with the Director, Bunny Zeller, who essentially yelled at my fiance and I over the phone, saying that "she was only trying to correct what has already been screwed up" and that "the personality description of the dog was all wrong, it was all fluff". We will not be returning to this shelter, and although we hope these animals find homes, we will *not be recommending to friends or family.

I filled out an online application to adopt a dog from here, just so I could visit and see if my Maltese baby would like a friend. They claimed that I had surrendered a dog to their shelter, even though I had not. Would not adopt from this shelter, their filing system seems messed up or maybe they just don’t ID people who surrender animals to their shelter? I would be really hesitant to adopt if they don’t bother getting an animal’s backstory from people who drop them off. Seems sketchy.

At last,Louisville has a no-kill shelter! Extremely caring ,excellent environment. My fourth dog,and second on my own came from here. They insist each person has a adoptee has a co,so the animals are assured of not going back.I can't say enough good about Animal Care.
