We always feel most comfortable here and able to trust the vets no matter who you get. I’ve had nothing but good clinical experiences here. Their support staff is always kind and welcoming. The only problem I’ve ever had is with their website but that just seems to be a work in progress. We moved 30min away and I tried to see another vet closer one time but they just don’t have the same trusted experience

The staff is always so friendly and Dr. McCarty has been a huge help with my beagle pup. The services are very reasonably priced and I always have a positive experience.

They were a little crowded we had a appointment at 12 but still they make my 67 yr old mother wait out in the sun, not cool.

This veterinary clinic is run by an aunt and nephew who both genuinely seem to care. Great care and good prices for good medicine. Wife and I continue to use them.

They did a tooth extraction and helped my awesome dog. They did such a great job and our dog had a super speedy recovery. They are the most professional. I trust them completely.

Edited: Had a surprisingly expensive and frustrating experience. I did get a call from the doctor later, which helped mitigate some of the unpleasantness, but that was pretty rough.

This is a fantastic clinic. I unexpectedly had to euthanize a beloved cat earlier this month, and I couldn't have asked for a better veterinarian to perform the procedure than Dr. McCarty. He was kind, patient and went out of his way to make the process as stress-free as possible for both me and my cat. I never felt rushed or pressured to make a decision I wasn't comfortable with, which I imagine happens often in these kinds of situations. I'm very grateful to him for having given me some peace of mind on a difficult day. I can't recommend Howell Avenue enough.

I am adding to this review. On Saturday, one of my cats had severe difficulties breathing. Since I live in Clifton and time was of the essence, I had no choice but to take her to Howell. I walked in and a receptionist started screaming at me that I am not allowed inside(?). Since I am old and have two major co-morbidities, I am extremely careful, always wearing an N95 mask and gloves, but not allowing one person at a time, for example, or at least a pet inside makes little sense. The wonderful staff at CVS and the Natural Foods store on Ludlow allow masked people inside. So I had to go outside with my cat to call Howell. They informed me that they don't take emergencies. I would have to make an appointment? What is a pet hospital for if you cannot bring a pet to the "hospital" in an emergency? Thankfully, the owner of Natural Foods is a cat expert and was able to help us. I offered to pay her, but she refused. Thank heaven for Natural Foods to where I will bring my cat in the future rather than to Howell Pet Hospital(!), which is crazy. If a decent vet who actually cares about animals happens to read this, please consider opening a clinic in Clifton. The overwhelming majority of Cliftonians have pets and we sorely need an alternative to Howell. Thank you. I foolishly chose the Howell Ave hospital because it was close to where I live. I would not choose a physician based on that criterion. My poor cat Maya became the victim. I took her to the vet because of tooth problems. She was initially given a steroid injection. The day after I noticed a lump on her left shoulder. I feared the worst but then remembered the injection. I called the hospital and also went in person to ask the vet technician where she had given my cat the injection. I was never given the name of the technician, but was told both by the office and the vet that "normally" they would give the injection in a thigh. I kept asking if that "normal" procedure had been followed in this case, but was never given a straight answer, so I had no choice but to have a biopsy taken for $130. Needless to say, it was not a tumor but a swelling that had appeared the day after an injection and disappeared a week later. I had been told that my cat needed dental surgery to remove two teeth. It was expensive surgery, almost $700, which is more than I had and forced me to live on nothing two weeks before pay day. Stupidly, I also tagged a clause in the agreement that said that I gave the vet the go ahead to perform other "necessary" procedures beyond the extraction of the two teeth. I brought my cat in at 9 am and said that I wanted to stay with her during the surgery, but was told that was not possible, but also assured that she was going to be operated on early, around 10:30-11. I later found out that the surgery had not been done until the afternoon and that virtually all her teeth on one side and a couple of other teeth on the other had been removed. I was shocked to learn this. How did it go from 2 to virtually all teeth? My cat was also given pain medication that gave her hallucinations and extreme fear. I have never seen a cat with that kind of reaction. On top of this my cat developed an infection on the side where all teeth had been removed which is still being treated by another hospital, which now tells me that they may have to operate again on Maya to correct the mess Howell and specifically vet Betsy Klerk created. I warn anyone from taking their cat to Howell.

Very clean and well kept up building. Met one vet tech and she was awesome. Doctor was very friendly and easy to talk to.

They come out to get your pet. Poor vet techs have to run out around in the cold and rain to deliver pets and medicine and messages from the veterinarian. But they are likely happier to do that than have us inside the building contaminating them with our germs. ???? The veterinarian calls while she is with your pet and doesn't seem rushed to get you off the phone. She took her time answering all my questions and concerns. Highly recommend.

I LOVE MY VET. Seriously I can not say enough good things about Dr. McCarty and her staff. I recommend her all the time. She’s very understanding and treats all of the animals like her own. Staff is very good about recommendations and and answers my questions well. Everyone is very sweet and approachable.

If you have a rescue pit or rescue pet that has anxiety, I highly recommend going to a different vet. Unfortunately, I don’t think this office or staff is properly prepared to handle dogs who require special care. On a different occasion I brought in a stray dog that was in need of medical care. They were great, efficient, and preformed surgery. The vet tech ended up fostering her, which was amazing! Also a bit on the expensive kind but, I’ve had positive and negative experiences here.

I would give them more stars if I could!! Always caring and compassionate to not just the animals, but the owners too!

I recently took my dog to get a teeth cleaning at this location. I was quoted $275 for the cleaning, $75 for blood work and I also had a chip put in during the surgery. When I received the bill it came out to $463, which did not make sense to me. Ultimately I'm very disappointed by what appears to be an over $50 price discrepancy and will not be taking my dog back. If you are concerned about costs and transparency around pricing I suggest finding another vet.

Incredibly appreciative and happy of our experience here. They were able to see us during the busy holiday season with a few hours notice, clear and concise communication about the assessment and treatment. Pleasant and kind and professional interactions. Appreciated the effective Covid precautions too. Well done. And now our boy is home sleeping soundly and on the road to recovery!

Uncooperative and lack of empathy or willingness to work with a client. I called to make a puppy checkup appointment and was provided one for one week later. One of the puppies needed a follow up appointment per Med Vet. Called back requesting if one can be accommodate sooner and the receptionist was uncooperative and insensitive. When asked if i can be placed on a list should they have any cancellations, she simply said "no, we don't do that". Then i suggested me calling everyday to check for an opening will work, she replied with "I can stop you from doing that so you can do it if you want to". Very rude and completely against their website mission statement.
