Unintelligent and very rude staff. Do yourself a favor and don't even bother. They'd rather run you in circles and let animals be put down than just let you go through a simple adoption process. 0 stars if I could.

They are very helpful and knowledgeable. Very loving with the animals. They want to find homes for all the fur babies and it shows with how they treat the customer and the animals.

Horrible place to go. Their dogs are all "too old" as they put it. And they will tell you how aggressive their dogs are. Finally after allowing u and ur kids to meet a dog they refuse to adopt out the dog due to not having a vet but u never had a pet to have a vet. Its a waste of time and poor customer service.

Wonderful staff, a small fenced in area where you can meet and greet one animal at a time.

Picked up the lovely Chica from WRHS on Saturday the 7th and everything went well. Staff was helpful, the adoption process was easy enough, there's no doubt that they care about the dogs and that's why they are picky with the people they let adopt. (I would be as well, especially working in a shelter.) The kennel area has always been clean when I've gone by and though it's loud in there, that's to be expected. I wish some of the dogs could have some more exercise time, but I understand how that may be difficult to near-impossible for the staff. At least they have that nice fenced-in dog run for that purpose. The people who work there do their best, and they care. That much is obvious!

Right away I could tell I was gonna have to play the game of acting like I wasnt anxious to see the kittens they have. I'm sure its not a great job and the turnover is probably high, but my wife was in there Saturday and was told we could come back on Tuesday to get the kitten she liked and it would only cost $25. Only to find out that only applies to 7+ yr old cats when I went there. Even though they called the vet we go to and confirmed that we are responsible long time pet owners we still have to wait for weeks for him to be fixed. I have to wonder how many animals get put down that would otherwise have a home if they ran it a little differently.

The staff needs to better communicate to people interested in adopting an animal how many people are actually interested. We were told so many different things by the workers there... and not one time did anyone mention there were several applicants for the same dog. EVER!!!!!!! We were even told to call back to get a time for pick up after the dog received the last shots. After adopting several animals and donating each month.........We won’t be back to adopt from white river humane Society !! Very poor and unprofessional staff on 7/24/2021

I loved every animal they had. Maybe they're a little over run but the odor was horrible! Much more expensive than Bloomington shelter. Bloomington had no bad odors at all.

My husband and I were trying to adopt a male kitten. The day we were supposed to go get him, my husband call to make sure we were still ok to get him. The lady told us it would be another two weeks because the vet had covid and couldn't perform the cats surgery. I understand they can't control covid, but they should have called us. Two weeks go by and we haven't heard from them, so my husband called on the day we were supposed to go down there again and they say. "Oh I am so sorry, but we are going to have to put him down because he has cat leukemia." They had to have know for a few days yet no call!!!!!! They told us we could come get another cat that had already been neutered. We did, and we love this cat, but since we got him he has been none stop sick and is at the vet right now because his back legs are wobbly and he can barely walk. So please don't buy a cat from them. I'm sure there dogs are better taken care of but still. I am not happy!!

I just recently read the reviews after an unpleasant visit to this animal shelter seeking to write my own. I want to start off with calling out the owner who had replied to many unsatisfied family’s seeking to adopt. You are rude person. It is NOT hard to be nice, or professionally handle an individual who is ineligible to adopt. Any time I have came into the White River Human Society the woman with brown hair and glasses always had an attitude with me. I would walk in with a smile, ask how her day was, I went out of my way to be kind, just seeking to pet dog! That woman is so mean. As well as the owner who replied to many unsatisfied family’s. You are the reason dogs aren’t getting adopted at this particular facility! No one wants to come because you are rude. I am reporting you.

I’ve been here before and never had issues. But what doesn’t sit right with me is the responses to reviews on here. You have an expectation to display professionalism yet you’re picking through reviews to go off which screams childish. Let it go instead of making yourself look a fool in the reviews. That behavior is nasty and uncalled for when you’re a place of business.

If I could give this shelter 0 stars I would. 3 years ago my husband and I adopted a female kitten who at the time was a healthy happy kitten. Exactly a week maybe 2 after we got her home she started not eating at all. We tried different foods and she still wouldnt eat. Then her stomach started to swell and we knew she wasnt pregnant because she was an indoor cat and hadnt gone outside. She also developed an upper respiratory infection. We wound up taking her to the vet and spending $80 on her. Not even a week later my husband found her dead. I did research and discovered that she had died from feline infectious peritonitis which there is no cure for, is fatal and can live in the environment. Considering we didnt even have her a month and after learning that it can live in the environment I called this shelter to let them know so no other kitten would face the same fate that our poor baby girl did and they clearly didnt care because not only were they rude, they didnt utter 1 word of condolences to us for our loss, they also refused to refund our money or even give us the option of adopting another animal. Losing the money didnt bother me so much as the lack of compassion. Because of how they treated us we havent done business with them since and we never will again.

I have had a aching in my heart ever since I lost my soulcat back in 2011. Thanks to God and everyone at the White River Humane Society I was able to adopt a beautiful fluff baby. Grady Dale Duncan! He just brings so much adventure into our home each new day. He hides around corners and jumps out and scares the dog. I never get tired of seeing that! Lol You guys were amazing through the whole process. Thank you again for bringing us together. ????????????

My girl ran away and for 3 days we couldn't catch her. Finally the city was able to and she was brought to WRHS. Claiming her was straight forward; provide proof of ownership, agree to up date shots, sign the docs, and pay the hold fee. My girl was treated well in their care and she is now home safe and sound.

Rude staff that deny adoption for reasons like someone being in college. I would understand if it were age but to deny based on getting an education is ridiculous. Also not mentioned in adoption requirements

After filling out an application, I had to argue with staff about whether or not I had given my dog heart worm medication (I had). Turns out they were going to tell me I had to adopt a different dog anyway because they said so. The dogs they wanted me to adopt did not fit my needs or life style. I was told the dog that I was wanting to adopt was aggressive, despite having spent an hour with said dog and facing no problems. It’s okay, I went elsewhere and I found a girl that needed a good home and a shelter that wanted to support me in my journey and welcome me into their community. Perhaps things happen for the best, but I wouldn’t recommend WRHS unless you want to be talked down to.
