Dr. Fleming was my terrier's vet for 7+ years until he retired and his clinic changed hands. My dog needed special care and was frequently at the clinic, and the quality of care from the entire staff was outstanding. After Dr. Fleming left the practice, my dog was examined/treated by one vet in particular who was caring and very capable as well. The transition in ownership of the clinic was fairly seamless with improvement in office technology along with a somewhat less friendly reception, but I had no complaints about the clinic until my dog died 3 weeks ago. She fell ill over the weekend, Prairie State Veterinary Clinic (PSVC) was closed, and there was no emergency clinic within 50 miles of my home that had an opening to see her although each place contacted said that she needed hospitalization based on her symptoms. Her condition worsened over the next 36 hours, and we finally decided to end her horrible suffering and contacted an exceptional mobile services vet from Orland Park who came to our home and administered euthanasia. I wrote a note to PSVC that day notifying them of her passing as well as describing my heartbreaking and futile attempts to find her care when she was suffering. I was hoping that my note would prompt the staff to develop a back-up plan for emergency care for pets who have been in their care for so many years. I received a note in reply from her veterinarian who briefly expressed her sympathy, and then went on to explain in quite some detail the impact of the pandemic on the veterinary field and it's services. I completely understand that there is a shortage of veterinary staff due to the pandemic, and those who are available to work must be exhausted from the hours worked, but my point was missed. A doctor's care for a patient should not be confined to clinic hours. Could they not at least think about options, like an answering service, tiered services for clients who are willing to pay for specific care, etc. PSVC had previously subscribed to TeleVet for situations like this, but discontinued it. There was no response to at least thinking about new ways to help critically ill pets during off hours especially since it's known that emergency care is limited. Hardship during this pandemic goes both ways and is not exclusive to veterinary care. Where can a desperate patient/client go in an emergency and at least connect with a vet who knows their pet's history? If my dog could not be saved, could she at least have received pain medication? It was clear that my appeal to the Clinic to find new ways to operate during these hard times was not going to make a difference in the next pet's life or death situation, and that was going to be the end of it. Then two days later I received a sympathy card from the Clinic, and we were so insulted by the writing in the card that I felt compelled to write this review. After 9 years of care at this clinic, they couldn't even say my pet's name. It was a generic "Sorry for your loss". That to me says what this clinic has become. Couldn't one of the veterinarians or tech's actually sign the card, especially the ones who cared for her most, and at least say that she was a great dog who they enjoyed at the Clinic? How cold to not even acknowledge that she had a name. Her name was Sparkle. How difficult would it have been to say, "Sorry for Sparkle's loss". The few words appeared to be hastily written as though it were a meaningless task. As veterinary staff's ask clients to be compassionate towards them during these difficult times, could they not understand that we need compassion too. Sparkle was not a pet. She was a best friend. For this I'm generous in giving PSVC 3 stars based on all the good years of service that we previously received while under private ownership.

Tech's failure to give a message to Dr. Tassone contributed to my pet's death. My family and I had been going to see Dr. Fleming for 20+ years. When he was at the practice he went above and beyond for your pet. Sadly, since he is no longer there an unfortunate incident happened. I was instructed by Dr. Tassone to call her if my pet's sudden illness worsened. When I stopped by the office to pick up pain medicine I asked the tech to have the doctor call me. She literally rolled her eyes at me and said they were busy. I told her Dr. Tassone had asked me to update her on my dog's condition. As a result of this woman's negligence my pet died overnight and I was told she never gave Dr. Tassone my message. After she learned my dog had died she had the nerve to contact me to tell me that she thought my dog's condition didn't warrant the doctor to call me and that she thought I was a routine med pickup. Absolutey unacceptable and unforgiveable. To this day I still have no idea what my dog died from because she was never seen by Dr. Tassone to examine her. This would have never happened under Dr. Fleming's watch. I will never step foot in there again.

Update: I took the time to call back to give them extra information and the 2nd person interupted me and still spoke on behalf of all vet clinics in the area that they can't help my dog with this urgent need. I have since found a local vet that is booked as well, but is able to get me in to help my dog with her UTI. I thinknit is unprofessional to speak on behalf of all vet inics in the area when they indicated that 2 other vet offices said they were booked. She ended call abruptly stating the Manager will call me back later. I will update after the Manager calls. ************ They don't seem willing to accept new patients that moved to the area and that are in urgent need to assist a pet. My dog has a urinary infection and the person who answered the phone stated they can't help me until September. I wouldn't recommend them if you are new to Illinois or new to the area. I guess I have to travel to my old vet in Indiana to assist my dog with a UTI. I am disappointed.

For anyone complaining or ripping on any services being offered to you in this time, you can kindly eat your words. The stress staff is going through to keep places like this running is unimaginable. I had to wait 2 months to see my GP in human med and an additional 2 to get my wisdoms out. Stop complaining and realize that the world is in pieces and service industry cannot accommodate everyone. #essentialworkers #NOMV

Dr Rosin (I believe that’s how you spell her name) she is the ONLY reason why I bring my Yorkie to this clinic. She is the most amazing vet I’ve ever met. She calls the pets her patients which I think is extremely sincere. She is so incredibly detailed in her explanations. She never ever comes to quick assumptions and never resorts to medicine first off. She is always thinking of and suggesting more natural ways to heal the pet and does a ton of research to make sure that the natural treatment is appropriate for the condition the pet has. She’s seriously amazing and I am so glad we found her.

I like the location of this clinic. The waiting area is small, if you have a difficult dog or cat, it could be an issue. Ive taken my pets to see Dr Tassone. She is a wonderful, caring and gentle vet. She listens to you and takes your opinion into account. She explains everything and makes you feel confident that she knows what she’s doing. I’ve had several bad experiences with Dr Norton. He is short tempered and I don’t like the manner in which he speaks down to me or the rough way he handles my animals. I've recently decided to find a new vet as Prairie State does not seem to be too helpful or a good fit with elderly animals like mine.

Since Dr. Fleming retired, this place has gone downhill like an avalanche. The young women who seem to run it are condescending and rude. It's almost as if they enjoy making the humans wait forever. Then the bill is ALWAYS so high. Now that they are all face diapered up and you are not allowed to BE IN THE ROOM with your dog, there is no telling what they do. My tiny dog got her vaccines and was violently ill for five days. I had warned them ahead of time but they refused to do as I asked, as Dr. Fleming had done for years. She got a full dose! I'm outta there!!!

Dr Fleming and his staff are wonderful. I have been going there with my pets for about 15 years. But I have called twice in the last 5 months with an emergency with my dog Penny during their office hours and Have been told to just take her to emergency vet. I feel after many years this is unprofessional. Very disappointed ☹️

Dr Fleming is a genius. And a dedicated one. My Max had a bad skin infection. Another vet offered nothing but his fee. Dr Fleming took a culture, found out what it was, found an effective treatment. Max is no longer threatened by it and not itching. Plus Dr knew of Dakin's solution which is good for the skin. My research shows it's good for humans too. Good for infections, diabetic sores and bed sores. Smells good too. Clean. Dr Fleming is smart, practical and a true doctor. Thank you Dr. Fleming.

Bo is my 4th dog with Doc Fleming. Referred many family members and friends. I trust Doc and his staff with my heart...my dog! He's so knowledgable, takes time to explain or to answer any questions you may have, prices are more than fair, and he has a huge heart!

If I could give negative stars I would. We came last year and saw Dr Norton as well and were severely unimpressed and displeased but we thought we would give Prairie State a second chance, that was a definite mistake. Dr Norton clearly no longer likes animals or even pretends to tolerate them. Before he even walked in the room we heard the vet techs telling him about our dog and he audibly groaned in displeasure at the prospect of examining her. Once he actually walked in the room and sat down he flinched multiple times when attempting to exam her, talked down to us as if we were children about her, and was a general awful presence in her exam. We understand that our dog is a little excitable but after his supposed years of experience he should understand how to deal with a puppy. While he was examining her he tried to hold her head still and she pulled away from him and he actually yanked her collar off and sent it flying over his desk. That man is the sole reason that we will not be back to Prairie State, awful experience and we will be taking our money elsewhere.

Praire State staff and doctors are 10000 x's beyond a 5 star rating. Thank you for your compassion and quick thinking to help us get our Jovi back with us safe and sound. I work in the medical field; touches my heart to know there is a place where animals are equal and deserving of excellent medical care. Please do not hesitate to bring your furry friends to them. They will not disappoint. Love to you all! Xoxo Jovi's Sister

Just switched my pet to Prairie State and I'm very happy I did. Dr. Fleming and his staff are extremely welcoming, and the cleanliness of the facility, and the kindness of everyone made Lucy's first visit a breeze. I heard of this clinic through word of mouth and with all the frustration with other clinics, we're glad we made the right choice!

I literally just got back with my Dino and I had to write this review. I can not express how great this place is. Dr. Norton is a newer doctor there and he did an ultrasound today for my baby and is not only is he incredibly knowledgeable but he also is very thorough. I feel confident in his analysis of my dog and feel very relieved with the results. Every time I go to this place, I feel welcomed and the love and compassion for your animal is like no other place I have ever taken my babies to. I also feel that they are the fairest price wise. The genuinely care for your animals well being and want them to have the best care. I can not express enough my trust and love for this place and everyone that works here. Thank you from the bottom of mine and Dino's little heart, for being the clinic everyone loves.

John Fleming, dvm. is the best vet I have ever known. He is personable, professional, compassinat and honest. His staff goes above and beyond to make sure you and your pet are completely taken care of. I always know we are in the best care. Love them!

We take our most beloved pet to one fantastic, seasoned vet who’ll treat your pet as if it were his very own; and this is rare. Taco is high-strung; but I swear when he feels Dr. Fleming’s touch he soon relaxes very much. And then there’s Tracy, what a gal! She’s your, and your pet’s, loving pal.

Dr Norton is the worst vet I have ever experienced in the 20 plus years of owning dogs. Our sick dog was scheduled for a 10 am ultrasound. He kept us waiting for 1 hour. No explanation from the staff. Finally meanders in and the room is not ready. He leaves to get the machine. Then he realizes the shaver is not there. Again he leaves. Then the bottle of gel is empty again he leaves. It is beyond my comprehension how you can run a place in such an unprofessional manner. He has a horrible bedside manner which made matters even worse.

Just switched to this vet office, from Midwest Animal Hospital. World of difference. Staff is very nice and welcoming. The vet and techs were very helpful. Care was great, even though it was a routine check up for the year. Very happy.

Hard to get through on the phone and not friendly front desk staff. Also the vet was afraid of my dog and would not examine him. Offered a unnecessary procedure and wanted to sedate the dog to examine him I switched vet clinics and am very happy
