My dog injured her leg. Took her to see Dr Brancel. She sprained her leg. Dr. gave me some pills to keep the swelling down. Great Doctor, he kept my dog calm while he was looking at het.

Dr.John Brancel and Dr.Nance offers the greatest, extraordinary and superb veterinary in clinic and hospital care. I have been a customer for 20 years. I trust my pets to no other veterinarian.

UPDATE: We switched to Pet Vets after only 3 visits to Prairie State. The last straw was when our border collie was diagnosed with kidney failure. All Prairie State did was sell us prescription dog food and sent us on our way. They provided zero information, insights or caring. No prognosis. This is a death sentence for a dog, and they did the least amount necessary. At the other clinic, the vet spent nearly 45 minutes explaining the disease, what the blood and urine numbers mean, what we can do to keep our dog happy and alive for as long as possible. Prairie State did none of that. Lazy. It gets worse, it turned out from an ultrasound that our dog's kidney issues were due to a huge mass affecting organ function. It was successfully removed yesterday. We would've never known that if we stuck with Prairie State. If you value your pet's life, find another vet other than Prairie State.

The most incredibly dedicated, loving and talented group of people you'll ever hope to meet. Dr. John Brancel is easily the most capable, professional and intuitive veterinarian I've ever known, and quite frankly if he were an MD I'd go to him too!

Short version: They lost my pets records, berated me and then dropped my 100 lb dog on his chest after hurting him. Long version: I've been bringing my animals to Dr. Brancel for years and never had a problem, but apparently he now has other Vets working for him and the blond woman named Christie was not only rude and acting on incorrect out dated information, her and her helper literally dropped my 100 lb dog off the table after grabbing him from behind without any warning to him or to me in an attempt to turn him around when I could have led him onto the table myself and had him face the correct way before they lifted him up. They also could have asked me to pick him up and face him the right way, but no, they elected to grab a 12 year old pit/rot mix, who was raised by dog fighters, from behind around the chest. He yelped in pain and whipped his head around towards the man who was hurting him and the man just dropped him. His hind legs fell off the table and his mid section crashed into the table and he was sent backwards to the floor. Luckily I have great reflexes and I have years of experience handling 100lb bags of concrete because I was able to catch him before he fell all the way to the floor. This incident happened after I was lectured for nearly 5 min on what a horrible pet owner I was for not having brought my dog in for shots or checkups in over 6 years. I took it on the chin. I wasn't interested in fighting over what's right as a pet owner and defending myself. My dog was sick and in pain and he needed help. But you see, the issue here is that this Quack of a Dr. was entirely wrong. 7 years ago was my first of many visits with my dog. Somehow they lost his chart and lost the records of all his visits since his first visit and the "Dr" just assumed that I had not had him in since. I walked out of the appointment. Dr. Brancel is a good vet, but until he fires this quack, I'd never consider going back. Also, he has to answer for the issue of missing records as it is his practice.

I love The Prairie State Animal Hospital.... The Doctor's and Staff made us feel very welcome walking through the door. They took us in as a walk in new patient & took care of my Uniq' as they had known her for years. Thank you all, including Pat's Pet Emporium for her help as well and recommending them.

I cannot pass PSH without remembering that horrible day my dog, who had been under Dr. Brancel's care for about 7 years suffered, the day I had to euthanize him. He had become suddenly sick and Dr Brancel had agreed to make a home visit on Wed, a day after diagnosing his failed liver, to euthanize him. The good doctor was to call me on Wednsday to set up an exact time. I repeatedly called PSH, leaving frantic messages to the office personnel, asking, pleading, for someone to call me to let me know why I hadn't heard from Dr. Brancel. I couldn't believe my calls were being ignored. I knew the office personnel were there, even though there were no appointments ever scheduled for that day. My poor dog had been so extremely sick, weak, wasnt eating, couldn't stand up, I had to offer him water from a spoon. He couldn't hold up his head, steadily. That Wednsday was one of the longest, most anguished days for me, as I watched my sweet best friend dying, helpless to end his suffering. At 4:30 that afternoon, I could wait no longer and had to take my dog to a strange, new vet, where he was finally put to sleep forever. The following morning, Dr. Brancel called and offered a lame excuse (he was sick!) as to why he had not responded to my frantic calls when he had arranged the appointment to do this proceedure. I was dumbfounded by his casual attitude. How could he???? If this group of medical, professional animal care givers could be so callous and unresponsive to my dog's suffering, a similar situation could happen to anyone else, also. They are unreliable, unavailable and not to be trusted. I'm writing this to prevent anyone else from putting their pet's health in the hands of these people. They are a group of worthless, uncaring pretenders, if your pet really gets sick!!!
