Very helpful and knowledgeable staff that communicate clearly and compassionately. Maria was particularly wonderful. They've been so great with our chickens (and us humans!).???? Here's our Daphne, who is joining me at work during her recovery from surgery.

Bad experience: They are not allowing people in the clinic because of covid, which makes sense. My dog is dog aggressive and has anxiety. I explained that in a call prior to my appointment. (I had to wait 3 weeks for my appointment). I asked what I should bring to help them and my dog. They said not to bring anything, they had it under control. I arrive, they take my dog, then they bring her back out 5 minutes later saying that she is scratching and nipping and refuse to take her. What vet has never dealt with this before to the point of refusing service?

When Dr. Sakas was still with us, I always brought my cockatiel to see him. He was the most intelligent, kind, and skilled avian vet. Since Dr. Sakas passing, the care from the team is not the same. I am very disappointed in the service here and have taken to searching for another skilled, compassionate vet for my now elderly birds needs. I wish it didn't have to be that way.

This is going to be our new primary vet for our birds. Not that our current vet is bad by any means, but they just go above and beyond here in every way. Not only are they affordable, but everyone I encountered from the appointment making process all the way to the check out was beyond kind and handled my cockatiel with utmost tender care. We came here for a second opinion and they found TWO issues that our previous vet had overlooked several times. The doctor also took the time to go over all the issues and what they meant for our bird as well as how to best treat them. She really took the time to break down all the information for me. I live in Milwaukee WI and making the drive was 1000% worth it!

Niles Animal Hospital and Bird Medical Center is the BEST! I went to Niles Animal Hospital and Bird Medical Center about 12 years ago, my vet was Dr. Sakas! Best Vet in town! Since his passing, I found myself having to take another of my birds (Orange winged Amazon) in recently and was super impressed! The Techs and Office Staff are fantastic, friendly and knowledgeable.Of course this is during Covid and not being able to go in with my bird was a bit concerning but my fears were unfounded. The Vet I had was Dr. Abete she removed all my anxiety when she called me (outside in the parking lot) and explained what my birds issues were and with the right meds she could live a longer, better life (she's 40 years old now and I’ve had her the whole time). I also need to give a shoutout to Maria (in charge of the bird room) she took care of my Bitzy when she was hospitalized giving her the meds she needed to round the corner! Thank you! I’m sorry if this is a long winded review but there is so many fantastic and positive things to say about Niles Animal Hospital and Bird Medical Center. Yes, you may have a bit of a wait, understandable they are thorough, you’ll appreciate it when its your pet!

Niles is the best animal hospital! I take my cats and parrot here, and have also taken other pets such as dogs in the past. They are truly wonderful in every way - from customer care to services performed. Highly recommend taking your pets here for veterinary care!

Although the hospital is not the same as when Dr Sakas was here, it still offers quality care for pets. I would not take my parrot anywhere else..ever.

Dr. Sakas was my vet for 25 years. Unfortunately, he passed away from Covid over a year ago. Dr. Sakas was amazing diagnostician, and he always included me in the medical care of my pets, inviting me to look at x-rays, look into the microscope and he would go over lab results in detail, making notes on the printout as he went. It was a partnership that I valued. I cannot say the same now. I brought in one of my large parrots for a checkup. Dr. Abete told me my bird was sick and she prescribed an antibiotic. My bird had a severe reaction to the antibiotic and I called first thing in the morning, and was told Dr. Abete was busy and wouldn’t be able to return my call for 2 days. This for a bird under her care in an emergency situation. The receptionist I spoke to advised me to continue with the medication. It is not for a receptionist to provide medical advice. Dr. Abete did not return my call, and I ended up at an emergency vet over the weekend. I followed up with a second visit with Dr. Abete, and had some new lab work run. Dr. Abete said my bird was very sick and I should hospitalize her, but I would not be able to visit (they are not allowing clients inside the practice). I chose not to hospitalize my bird, and was sent home with no less than 5 different medications. My bird began to vomit and lose weight. A few days later, a vet tech phoned and was adamant that I hospitalize her. My bird is a rescue and is afraid of vets and very attached to me. Hospitalization would only have stressed my bird more, and I was afraid I would lose her. I feel Niles would benefit from better management. Phone calls were not returned, Wait times were hours – I understand things take a little longer for curbside service, but hours? And keeping a nervous pet inside for hours, when really they only needed maybe 15 or 20 minutes and the pet could have waited in my car with me. I never spoke to the same person twice. And when I directed a message to a specific person, I would hear from someone else. I had to ask for copies of lab work results, when in the past, this was always provided to me. They talked AT me, not TO me. They repeated the same information 3 or 4 times, which only served to make feel as if they were not listening to me, but wanted me to follow their advice blindly. Due to poor communication, not returning phone calls, receptionists giving medical advice, and lack of respect - I cannot trust this practice to have my pet's best interests at heart. I have found a new vet and will not be returning to Niles Animal Hospital. Thankfully, my bird is recovering under my new vet's care. This is my experience, and my opinion.

Overall they're very good. When I 1st went there w/a sick bird. Long story short the vet was very indifferent and incompetent and that's why the bird died. I went there w/a cat that Dr Sakas was treating for years till she passed away. Back then the ppl at the desk were an absolute nightmare to deal with....esp one named Jan. I haven't been there for few years bc all my birds died and I would never get any more unless Dr. Sakas would be available to treat them. I wish I'd known about him years before cause I firmly believe my birds would have live. He loved birds and had a wonderful instinct on how to treat them. It's awfully sad that he's passed away...there are very, very FEW vets that are knowledgeable that treat birds. I rated them a 4 going on my past experiences.

Long time customer called for my sick dog today the 8th of July the only thing they told me was "we have no openings till the third week of August". That's unacceptable .Time to expand or not accept new patients. They have more patients than they can handle. No complaints or concern about their medical performance just the management needs work . The parking lot waiting room has just about run its course now that we are completely open in Illinois. Human doctors are seeing patients face to face. Pt.s wearing masks in the waiting room. Things get passed over or lost in translation when you are talking by phone not in person.

This is the best place in all of Illinois for your pets! ????????I dont leave many reviews but this place deserves it 200%! I've had a military macaw for 11 yrs and she has never been sick. Well a couple days ago she got really quiet. She doesnt want to eat and can barely drink water , I look at her bum and it swollen & bleeding. Im loosing my mind trying to call every vet clinic. No one will take her cause she's an exotic bird. Im crying at this point desperate. I live one hour from niles. I rush to this place and Im standing in the parking lot with my bird and my son, desperate for my bird. Who at this point is so quiet I fear she will die. They immediately take her in. A nurse comes back 10 mins later and tells me my bird is a girl (which I didnt know) and she has laid an egg, she's hit puberty. But apart from that she had some other issues but she will be ok. The amount of relief I felt. She has stayed for a few days but she's in the best hands. I am forever grateful and owe my birds life to them. Thats her in the pic below. ♥️????

The Avian department has been in decline ever since the departure of Dr. Sakas.

Not too pleased with the service here. Appointment that should have been maybe 30 minutes was close to 2 hours. Each time the staff called us during the appointment they said that they were finishing up and our pet would be out shortly. Each time about half an hour later they'd call again about something else then say they'd be done in a few minutes. I doubt the doctor spent that much time on a pets first time vet visit and check up. Wish there was another exotic hospital in the area, if our pet ends up with a problem I'll be very reluctant to bring them here.

My leopard gecko, Athena, was cared for overnight by Dr. Yang for a URI. These infections can be dealdy to leos, and I was worried sick about her ever since she started showing symptoms. I have not had the best experiences with small animal vets in the past, but Dr. Yang treated both me and Athena so wonderfully. The other staff who assisted in her care were lovely, and communicative as well. Athena got the medicine she needed, will recover within a few weeks, and Dr. Yang took the time to carefully describe how I can better care for her to avoid URI's in the future. I am beyond happy with the service here, and will not go anywhere else in the future for my Athena.

Earlier this year my guinea pig had a severe uri and I was for certain he wouldn't make it (he's old and was underweight). However- with Dr. Abette and Dr. Yang's help he made a full recovery!

Dr. Abbete is the best. I've been taking my cocker spaniel Tara there for many years and completely trust Dr. Abbete's advice regarding Tara's care. She's very caring and truly cares about the animals.

Been going to Niles Animal Hospital for 35 years. My father referred all his customers from his pet shoppe to NAH. Best vet facility around! Loving, compassionate, knowledgeable staff. They go above and beyond to make sure your pet is taken care of. Won't take my pets anywhere else. Only negative is at this time cannot go into office!

We had to bring out cockatoo here with an emergency visit. The doctor and the entire staff were magnificent. Can't praise them enough for how they handled our bird and how they were with people skills as well.
