I cannot even begin to explain how grateful my family and I are that we found Merrillville Animal Hospital. We discovered them about a year, year and a half ago. Our sweet doggy girl, Leia, was a Great Dane and she faced many pestering health issues in her lifetime. Other vets in the area that we took her to completely gouged us for money just to simply give her repetitive medicine that she needed for recurring health issues. Immediately off the bat, Dr. Gustafson could see that the issues Leia was facing were no walk in the park. She truly cared for her with love in her heart. Unfortunately, last week we had to let our sweet girl cross the Rainbow Bridge. Dr. Gustafson was gracious, empathetic, and full of compassion and love during one of life's most difficult moments. I will never be able to thank her enough for how she cared for Leia. I can most assuredly say that her passion is for the true well-being of your fur babies. I would recommend and give more than 5 stars if I could. Thank you Dr. Gustafson and team. You are all making a difference in the world and I assure you it doesn't go unnoticed.

Iv been taking my dog (family) he's not just a DOG he's family his name is champ he had his eye removed here and the aftermath has Been nothing but a nightmare iv been going there 8 years every month to have him groomed and after this nightmare I'd never go back!!!

Got a “drop off” appointment and had to be placed on hold for 15 min before having to have a telephone conversation about why we’re being seen. Was disconnected twice. Once I did speak with someone, she was very condescending and rude. This place just stresses me out. Don’t recommend.

Found a stray puppy on the road someone had thrown out beaten they told us don't pick up an animal you can't pay for and told us to leave so they are going to kill it

Very personable staff, Dr is very kind and very informative. LOVE THEIR COMPASSION.

The fact that you could be running 5 minutes late for an appointment. You notify them that you're running late, you have to reschedule the appointment. So if it's 2 o'clock and you get stopped by the train that's by the office, and get there a 2:05 you have to reschedule. I think that's highly unprofessional.

Dr. is so caring about my animal she made me feel so much at ease when GABANNA needed surgery . Dr. Gustafson is a wonderful vet and a great person !!

This vet saved my dog's life! She went above and beyond to find out what was wrong with my dog. She needed surgery right away. I knew my dog wasn't feeling right; barely eating, sleeping all day and night. We found she had an enlarged spleen and it had to come out right away. I put my trust in this vet and I am so ever grateful for her thoroughness. I am a customer for life!

I always feel comfortable bringing my dog there, because the staff is very friendly and attentive. My dog has been a patient there for over 2 years now.

Dr. Alicia Gustafson and her staff demonstrated how much they care for animals when I took my two Rottweilers in for an exam. Both my dogs felt at ease and received gentle and loving care. I highly recommend the Merrillville Animal Hospital and Dr. Alicia Gustafson to everyone who has a pet.

For the last 18 years I have taken all 5 of my pets to Merrillville Animal Hospital. They would see Dr . Smith or Dr Marley! I have never had any issues with the staff, assistants or groomers or anyone! Over the last 2 years , Dr. Gustafson had taken over and a lot of changes had started to take place. Some good and some not but I was very impressed by Dr. Gustafson and loved how knowledgeable and compassionate she was about the pets. But over the last 3 visits the office staff became very short, not wanting to answer or pass along questions to the Dr. and didn’t appear to be as compassionate and less helpful. I had an appt a few days ago and I felt that the office staff really didn’t want to bothered. In return I wrote an email to Dr Gustafson, I was not nasty but explained how I felt and how not only do I bring my pets there but at least 2 others family members do as well. The office manager had become a little hostile and returned an email on Behalf of Dr Gustafson And herself along with the medical records for my 2 pets and stated they would not see them anymore. I was SHOCKED! I had spoke to family members and a few other ppl I know who take their pets there. They stated they have felt uneasy for the past year and that the staff wasn’t as friendly as they have been in the past. It’s sad! 1 bad review could cost a business 12-20 customers.

When I adopted my “Cookie”, Dr.Gustafson was her first vet....even gave her her first cat bed! So glad I’ve found her practice again....

They work to get you an appointment when you and your pet need it. They are honest!

Dr Alicia Gustafson is wonderful I really like the way she cares for my dog Sparky the groomer is very nice but needs to listen to instructions given.

My little Max dog (wired hair terrier) needed surgery very bad and the staff at this office took very good care of him. They were very nice and polite at all times and even called back to make sure there were no problems. They really like animals at this place and it shows. As it’s not all about the money (their prices were almost 1/2 of every place we took him to. My little Maxie is happy now running around in the backyard playing

Dr. Gustafson took the time to send me pictures and make sure I was up to date when my dad was taking care of my dog and had to see her for a minor emergency. Highly recommend this practice, they are forward thinking and care about their patients.

We have 5 fur babies! We've been going to Merrillville Animal Hospital for almost 20 years. We've always been treated with the utmost respect, care and sympathy when we've lost a fur baby. Dr. Gustafson has been nothing but amazing since she bought the establishment. We all love her. We lost our oldest, Stormy, this past summer he was a handful, he gave them a run for their money but they handled him with care and safety and always had his best interest at heart. I couldn't ask for better Dr's and assistants than we already have. Thank you everyone at Merrillville Animal Hospital! We're going to miss Dr. Smith who is retiring soon, he's been our vet for 20 years. Congratulations! I highly recommend Merrillville Animal Hospital. Their always improving their service as well as their customer service, which is already amazing.

I’m never scared to leave my Honey and Frankie with them!!!! The groomer is amazing and I love the staff! Even if I’m in a rush they still make me feel comfortable to leave my babies!

I have a new kitten and they were so helpful with providing me information and tips on how to best take care of him. Everyone there is a true animal lover which really made me feel comfortable about the amount of love and care they put into their work.

Dr. Gustafson is pretty much the best vet we've ever experienced. She did surgery on my Bulldog when he was 3 months old, and we always loved how much she cared about him. We moved away and so we ended up going to a vet in CP, IN much closer to us. When he developed a skin issue - the vet near us just couldn't seem to get it under control. We tried SO many tests and medications. I knew I had to seek her out again, and despite the longer drive, it was beyond worth it. She identified almost immediately that the vet in my town was close, but no cigar on their suggestions and that my dog needed a higher dose than was we were giving him. Combine that with her affection to Oswald (my dog), and other suggestions she has made - my dog's skin is the best it's been in over 2 years. We thank you so much! Everyone should bring their pets to her.

Great Vet! Convenient, courteous, amazing with all pets! Their prices are very reasonable and the staff is wonderful!
