Best cat vet. In the area

I never write reviews but my cats have received excellent care here for the past four years. Sadly we are moving away, but Dr. Hayes has always taken very good care of my two cats. He handles them well - one of them gets very nervous at vet visits but Dr. Hayes seems to have the magic touch and our yearly exams have always gone very smoothly. Very sad to leave them. Also this place is just for cats which I think makes the atmosphere a little more calm for nervous kitties. They also offer a great assortment of interactive toys that both my cats still use and love. Thank you so much for taking such good care of my kitties!!

We had the most amazing experience with Dr. Hayes and the whole staff at Cat Clinic of Iowa City. We went through a painful experience with our cat and the whole time they were extremely supportive, caring and kind to our beloved cat and to us as well. They checked in with us and helped us decide on what was best for our cat. Weeks later we received a card in the mail signed by all the staff. Months later we received a letter from the Companion Animal Fund thanking us for a donation. It turns out that Dr. Hayes made a donation in the memory of the cat that we lost. We were so incredibly touched. Cannot say enough about how kind and supportive and professional everyone there was. Oh and they are very affordable to boot! Thank you Dr. Hayes and team.

the vet was super nice to my cat. she usually meows out of anxiety the whole time shes out but after she had her checkup with him she was pretty calm. also they did a great job diagnosing the problem, my cat was okay within 24 hours of taking prescription food and the drug prescribed.

They are all very friendly and super helpful!! Just took in my 8 week old and she was so happy when she was done.

Great people. Big bonus is that they let the pet parent in the waiting area while the pet is being treated. I would go there anyway but that is a big bonus for me.

The Cat Clinic of Iowa City is an awesome establishment and truly a "Class Act." From my very first interaction with them I felt that they heard what I was saying and they understood what I was feeling. I really appreciate their unique level of empathy and high quality communication skills.

If you write a bad review they'll say "we are not able to find you in our system as a past/current client" CAT CLINIC IS THE WORST/MOST EXPENSIVE VET IN IOWA CITY!!! THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR PET THEY CARE ABOUT THE MONEY.

Dr. Hayes and staff are always friendly, understanding, compassionate, knowledgeable and genuinely care about our feline children! We have been coming to the Cat Clinic for about 17 years and will never change our provider.

I love every single member of staff that I have met in the past couple years of being a patron there. Dr Hayes is an amazing Veterinarian; he takes the time to talk with you about what's going on, asks appropriate questions, answers any questions I have (even the dumb, ridiculous, or worried paranoid ones), he genuinely cares and it shows, and makes spot on accurate diagnosis' with the appropriate treatment plan. And even more so, his team of nurses will email and ask how my furbaby is doing after his appointments! Dr Hayes and his team saved my boy's life; I forever will be a patron to them for how much they care for me as a cat Mom and for my baby Griffin. We love you Cat Clinic!!!

They care more about the money than the animals. Try another vet please

During COVID when so many other vets were not taking new clients the Cat Clinic was able to see my cat and help out. Everyone there was so kind and went above and beyond calling me even the next day to see how my cat was and answering a bunch of questions I thought of after the fact. These are my new favorite people!

We've been taking our little cat here for the past few years and we love this clinic. I know I sound like a shill right now, but they're so friendly and they take such good care of her. It's kind of expensive, but if anything happened to my little cat I would wander into the wilderness and pass away, and Cat Clinic of Iowa City makes sure that doesn't happen.

Over 5 years experience with the Cat Clinic and I can't say enough nice things about them. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and provide a nice environment for their cat patients. I wouldn't dream of taking our cat anywhere else!

Best cat clinic in the area! Dr. Hayes is wonderful with the cats, and does everything in his power to make visits as stress free as possible for them. Prices are in line with other clinics, but the service is better!

While driving home this morning from work I saw a cat on the side of the road that wasn’t doing well. I’m a lover of all pets and I couldn’t just leave it there to die on the side of the road in the freezing cold, so I called this cat clinic thinking they’d help this poor cat. I asked the receptionist if they could help this cat by looking to see if it could be saved or put down pro bono. The receptionist said, “we actually have a cancellation today. You can come in!” Again, I asked if they do pro bono since this wasn’t my cat and this cat I found was suffering.. she said, “we do not.” I asked if she knew of any vet clinics that would? She said, “not that she knew of.” I stated that there had to be a vet that would do it for free if they truly loved animals and didn’t want one to suffer. Receptionist replied with a sarcastic “good luck!” And hung up on me. I know that what I said could’ve came off rude, but that wasn’t my intentions. The receptionist however works with the public and some better customer service skills would’ve been appropriate. I feel if a vet truly cared about animals they would put down a found cat that was clearly suffering. This has made me never want to bring any of my pets to this place and I would never recommend this place to anyone. Until they change my mind I find them rude, pompous and unprofessional

We recently went to the clinic to have or cat put down. This was not our regular clinic but I wanted to get a second opinion on possible treatment. Unfortunately, I was told the condition was terminal but because we were treated so well I decided to come back when it was time to part with our dear Sambo. All of the staff handled our situation with such care and empathy. My son wanted to keep the ashes and I was surprised to receive not only his ashes returned but a lovely poem with Sambo's paw prints and tuff of hair. I later received a letter stating the clinic had made a donation to the companion animal fund in Sambo's name! Such wonderful and caring service during or time of grief.

I had my appointment about mid May, it seemed really great when I went in for the first time, took my cat back for 5-10 minutes as a new patient including 3 vaccines and a dewormer. Doctor came out, let me know my cat had stomatitis, then he proceeded to tell me literally nothing else about it or his health, then said “ok” got up and walked away. But he luckily he came back and told me that I could buy Hills food from them and schedule a $400 teeth cleaning! How lovely. Stomatitis is an auto immune disorder that is very rare, serious, and can lead to needing to put your cat down from the pain of eating. I scheduled a cleaning/ surgery with a vet dentist in Chicago and then went to Tender Care for a second opinion while getting his bloodwork before surgery. He was inside much longer and I was told it was just bad gingivitis and there was no inflammation of his soft palette or mucous membranes, she stayed on the phone with me for 20+ minutes answering the questions I had after researching. After my appointment with the vet dentist he agreed my cat didn’t have stomatitis and I completely freaked myself out for no reason googling because I wasn’t told anything about it! Every friend, receptionist, vet tech, and veterinarian I talked to seemed shocked at how the clinic interacted with me about this. I’m super disappointed I was hoping this clinic would be great since it’s just cat based and had great reviews. How many others have been given a wrong diagnosis of something that would be serious? This was the most bizarre experience I’ve had with a vet and I always used to go with my family as a kid to our dogs appointments and have been to a few other vets. A few weeks later I was hanging out with a friend and she mentioned her cat that was just at the Cat Clinic and it was the same, awkward and almost no information. I definitely won’t be coming back.
