Best Friends Veterinary Care Iowa City, Illinois

Have been taking my cats here for about 6 years. I wanted a place that was affordable and not push me to get unnecessary vaccinations/treatments as my cat were 100% indoors. This they did well. Unfortunately if you need anything besides a yearly checkup they will send you to Emergency Vet. I have only called 3 times in the last few years needing to be seen urgently for an ill cat and was told they were booked up and would need to go to ER vet. I’m done. Called another vet and got in same day. Who can afford the ER vet!!!

Some of the staff is pretty rude, but, was amazing and gentle with my cat, so.... Eh. I prefer animals to humans, too. Or maybe they ran out coffee. I don't know. Just thanks for the quailty, speedy, kind care. I've never seen her so calm in a situation like that.

1st time here and Tina could not have been more helpful! She was great with our rambunctious 5week old Pitbull. We're so glad to have found a knowledgeable, professional Doc and staff for our sweet pooch!

Best Friends Vet Clinic in Shawnee, OK has always provided reliable, quick, effective treatment/maintenance and/or comprehensive options when needed for my pets. I wouldn't trust the family dog to anyone except Dr. Brad Roach & his staff of caring professionals.

We used Best Friends with both of our dogs since they were puppies, until we moved away about a year ago. Working with other vets since then has made us realize how good Best Friends was, and I can't recommend them enough.

Amazing staff helped my pupper with her teeth and I have never had such a positive vet experience. I feel like there is a friendly team all focused on keeping her in tip top shape. Wont go anywhere elae and cant recomend any higher!!

Unless the only care you want your pet to receive is a yearly exam, I would not recommend this. Everything was fine here until one of our 3 dogs needed to get in quickly for an emergency visit during the day. On two separate occasions of calling first thing in the morning I could not get in that same day. On the first occasion I called Monday morning at 8 AM when they opened, and even though I have been going to them for years and my dog was vomiting with blood speckles and had diarrhea, we could not get in until Tuesday evening. By that time, Monday evening we had to take him to the emergency vet and spent $540 to have him looked at and prescribed meds. Later that week after he had been doing better but then took another downward spiral we called again and could not get in same day or next day because the next day. This was so frustrating and they referred us back to the ER hospital or another vets office if it was about the price. All we wanted was our primary care vet to treat our family member how they would want a member of their family treated.... I was frustrated enough that I called Animal Kingdom in North Liberty. Even though Milo was a new patient they got him on within 48 hours of my call, for a first visit following his ER trip (until then we worked with the ER directly for care). After they saw him he was stable and doing okay. Then a few days later, on a Saturday when they also only work 8AM-12PM we called right away at 8, let them them know he had started vomiting again with the blood speckles and had stopped wanting to eat and was still having diarrhea, they cared enough to get him in that same day at 11AM, and were able to run lab work in-house to find out that he had acute pancreatitis. They were able to treat him and send us home with medication and special food so we were taken care of over the weekend. They did all this even though we were new patients and this was only Milo’s second visit. If we would have had Animal Kindgom as a vet instead of Best Friends, we would have been spared the extra worry as well as the discomfort of our dog and the $540 we spent at the ER vet. If we had Animal Kingdom he could have gotten in and been treated by our primary care vet right away. It would have saved so much worry/anxiety, time, and money. If you want your pet treated as a family member then I recommend to take your business elsewhere..... your pet deserves to be treated by your primary care vet in most cases except for really extenuating circumstances. Best Friends Vet Care doesn’t do that. I have never been able to get a same-day appointment for any of our dogs. This time made me realize we deserve better, and we found that elsewhere.

They are our vets for our two corgis. They are always on time, efficient, and very empathetic. They always follow-up after a visit with a phone call to see how our dogs are doing. Very responsive to questions when we call in.

Staff is pleasant and very animal friendly. Somewhat pricey but takes good care of our animals.

The vet and staff here love your pets as much as you do. They clearly explain what they are doing and why, and don't pressure you into pointless tests or procedures. Prices are very reasonable.

THE NICEST AND MOST KNOWLEDGABLE STAFF!!

Kim is really a great vetrinarian. We brought a rescue dog in for his initial appointment and they waved the fee. Their staff are friendly and Kim took the time to answer all our questions.

The staff is always friendly and attentive, pricing is amazing for the quality of care you receive, and my cat seems to always be happy and relaxed after leaving

Great place, they really care about your pets. They treat you and your pets like family. We like Best Friends also because we can take our dog and cats here. If you are looking for a vet clinic in Iowa City, these are the people you want to go to.

We just had our first appointment with Best Friends and it was a fabulous experience. All we needed was Rabies shots for our two adult cats, and we were just fed up with paying the (our opinion) exorbitant tacked-on "Exam fees" that we had been paying with the cat-only clinic in town. I actually called every vet in the Iowa City area, and Best Friends was the cheapest. Our previous vet and some of the others were double the price for the exact same services. BUT (This is the fabulous part) the service we received was not at all becoming of the low price. It was exceptional (!) The doctors were honest and straightforward. They did not try to sell us on a new food, treats, supplements, or book unnecessary follow-up appointments. One of our cats got especially angry while getting checked out and they handled it like professionals. My cat really pitched a fit, but they calmly and gently held their grip on him and we had a good laugh about it afterwards. It was pretty funny. Actually, the whole appointment was light and enjoyable. We felt welcomed and respected, and felt they respected our pets too. We will definitely be coming back for all our veterinary needs! They are fantastic! Our pups are always excited to see the staff (who are equally as excited). They are like family and are exactly who you want to be taking care of your best friends!

What an amazing group of professionals! We have just recently established care here for our two cats adopted from ARL and I have no reservations at all. I am certain we made the right choice for the health and well-being of our pets!

I just switched from the Cat Clinic and am so glad to save $45 on each visit for the "examination fee". I received the same services for cheaper, and the Vets were much more friendly towards my cat and had great customer service. They won't rip you off on extra shots or services you don't need, which was happening at our previous vet. They didn't handle a scared cat very well which is my only complaint. The old vet examined our cat while he stood leisurely on the table, whereas here they put a towel on him with one vet holding his body down on both sides and the other held his head and neck just to simply look in his ears/eyes. This could have easily been done while he was just standing on the exam table and it would have saved both parties unnecessary stress and effort.
