I brought my pet in for blood work (before a procedure) and had to bring it in again for follow up blood work. Three weeks went by and not a word even though I called twice. Final Update: They apologized. I accepted. Second chances were given.

The best! Update: Dr Carlson has been taking care of our Toby and Lulu for years. They turned 21 in May of 2021 and passed under her compassionate care in July 2021 only a week apart. We can not thank her and her wonderful associates enough for helping guide us gracefully down this heartbreaking path.

Dr. Carlson at Howard Street Animal Hospital is incredible. I feel so lucky that my pooch and kitty have her as their doctor. She is super competent and knowledgeable, loves the animals she cares for and truly has a special way with them. She takes the time to fully explain what's going on with your pet, and treatment options--with so much empathy and respect for her patients and clients. She keeps her prices reasonable. And the kicker is my pets cannot wait to go to the vet! They love it there, lol! She's got to be the best vet I've ever had! I don't think I would move to another neighborhood in Chicago, simply because I want to stay close to Dr. Carlson--she's that good, people!

After years of different Vets and unworkable plans for my kitty with severe over-grooming issues, I moved back to the area and decided to visit my old Childhood vet. Dr.Carlson was exactly the wonderful, caring, and experienced Doc that I remembered. She was able to provide a different solution that has given my kitty tremendous relief, she's happy and playful like a kitten again!

Dr. Carlson has provided great care for our cats for over 10 years.Even after moving out of the area we can’t bring ourselves to choose a new vet because the bar is set so high by Dr. Carlson! It’s worth the drive to keep our cats in her care. She is compassionate, kind and thorough. She Is very dedicated and will call with follow up even after hours. All of the rest of the staff at Howard St Animal Hospital are great too. Everyone is very friendly and professional!

Dr. Carlson is the absolute best in all aspects of animal care, especially when it is time to make the ultimate decision. She was so caring for our cat Percy and for our family through everything. Also Kudos to the staff for their hard work during Covid.

Dr. Carlson has been treating my pets for well over 18 years. She and her staff are amazing and they go above and beyond at all times. I have a beagle puppy who six months ago was diagnosed with severe epilepsy. Late on a Friday evening the puppy fell into a cycle of seizures which I could not break with the medications I had at home. Dr. Carlson told me to bring him in immediately and worked with him to try to break the cycle; this went on for several hours until very late in the evening. When it became apparent to her that she personally did not have the tools to treat this very serious episode she contacted the emergency veterinarian hospital for us and faxed over all of the records for the puppy while we were in route to the emergency hospital. The emergency staff was waiting for us and immediately began diagnosis and treatment as soon as we walked in the door. The puppy ended up having to stay in the hospital for four days and Dr. Carlson kept in continuous touch with me and the neurologist treating my puppy. Her calls late at night or over the weekend to check in to see how the pet was doing are welcome and comforting. She truly cares about you and your pet. She is a community treasure and it doesn't surprise me that sometimes they need to put a cap on accepting new clients. It's all about the level of service she wants to provide.

I Have called twice to this animal hospital in the past six months. Each time I have called they told me that they are not accepting new patients and to try back in another six months. They wouldn’t even take my name to call me when they can see my pet. Pretty inefficient, bad business, seem like a good fit since I live one block away from this place that gets good ratings
