****Editing to add that the Elgin Animal Clinic was able to provide a better service for me, at a fraction of the cost that Dundee Animal Hospital requested, which allowed me to cremate my girl and take her home with me. No pet should be left behind because an office wants to price gouge people in some of their weakest moments. E.A.C also didn’t ask me for payment before they even looked at my cat - Dundee wanted payment before a doctor even assessed whether she needs to be put down or not.**** It’s been a terrible year for cats and myself. In July, I lost my oldest male cat, we were on our way to Dundee Animal hospital when he died in my arms. Not knowing what to do we continued on our way to the hospital. Without even having to touch my cat Dundee wanted upward of $400 to cremate my cat, sadly something I couldn’t afford, so I had to go with the less expensive option and leave without my poor boy. Flash forward a couple months and I had adopted a kitten who fell ill with FIP, when bringing her to Dundee - they euthanized her but then gave me the option to have an at home burial, something they never even suggested with my poor boy. Today, the day after Christmas my senior cat has fallen ill, i called Dundee to set up a visit for my cat to sadly be euthanized and when I called I asked about pricing as I didn’t want that to play a factor in my emotions while being in the office. As soon as we’re brought into the room they ask for payment immediately (real caring, huh) and after he takes my credit cards informs me that he “forgot” to mention the emergency visit pricing so it’d be different from what he informed me on the phone. Each time I’ve had to come here for an extremely emotional purpose my animals have been treated differently. They are unprofessional in the manner that each visit should be the same experience but it’s not, it’s basically whatever the vet tech feels like. I’ll never bring another animal here ever again.

My fiancé and I had to bring my 7 year old cat in here for an emergency in the middle of the night due to seizures and had to euthanize him the next morning. Mary Jo the vet technician, was one of the most sweet, caring, and thoughtful technicians that made me feel comfortable with the decision I had to make. If it wasn’t for her kindness during this extremely difficult time for me I might have made the decision to keep my cat going with further testing. But I trusted her opinion and I knew it wasn’t easy for her to tell me. So thank you Mary Jo. This will forever be one of the toughest moments of my life and I’m thankful eclipse had a sweet nurse like you watching over him.

The customer experience on the front end is just as important as the medical care being provided by the medical staff. We have taken our puppy there twice and both times have been satisfied with her medical care. Our first visit was for a check-up and the veterinarian was great. The second visit was for a procedure and the surgical assistant we spoke to was also great. She explained what had been done and went over care at home, post-op. Simply put, the reception area team was rude. The surgery was set up (pup’s second visit) about a month in advance. They never went over pricing or steps on the day of the surgery, but did call the day before to tell me when to drop her off. I had to inquire on pricing. The day of the surgery, we dropped off our puppy at 0700 and had to call back to inquire when we could pick her up. I was told that they would call when she came out of surgery, but that they’d keep her there for observation after the procedure. To the surgical assistant’s credit, she did leave a voicemail when they were done and she explained that we could pick her up after 1500. When we picked up our pup, there was a customer in front of us that was being treated differently than us. The receptionist thanked the customer, told her to have a nice day, etc. How’d she greet us? “What are you here for?” I informed the receptionist that we were there to pick up our puppy. She handed me a stack of papers and said “read this…”, not explaining what she was asking me to review. After we settled the bill, there was no exit greeting like the previous customer. It was a dry experience and after paying hundreds of dollars we felt completely disregarded, and left with the feeling that the front end staff was bothered by our presence. Why, though? We weren’t rude, actually greeted her with a hello. There are other issues I am leaving out of here as well. As previously stated, the customer service aspect is as important as the service or product being provided. We have choices and this location was convenient for us. If you’re going to take my money, at least do it with a smile. If anyone at the office cares to discuss, please post your email address as that is the preferred initial method for correspondence.

We took our mastiff in to be examined. She presented with numerous welts and hives all over her front and back end. There was dramatic swelling and fluid retention in both front ears as well as hives on the muzzle and around the eyes. Her abdomen also had edema as well as her chest. We explained that she began developing the reaction Wednesday evening. We took her to another emergency hospital when we first noticed the reaction. They suggested giving her allergy medicine. At the time they felt she would respond to the Benadryl. During the course of the following day her symptoms seemed the same. However, by evening she was pacing, panting and very uncomfortable. Her physical appearance changed dramatically. We could not get into the original emergency vet, so we called Dundee. The vet saw her and despite her appearance, said we needed to continue Benadryl and he gave her gabapentin for pain and told us to put a t shirt on her. He dismissed our concerns that her symptoms were worsening and that she was exhausted. He said it could take a few weeks to resolve. I contacted them a few hours after we left and spoke to the vet who again dismissed my concerns. She was actually getting even worse. After I pushed back, he said we could bring her in for a hospital stay. I told him off and called our regular vet. Thankfully, we were able to get in. But in the meantime she was miserable. The vet was very concerned about the appearance of our dog and gave her a physical and cultured her ears as a precaution, do to the dramatic swelling. She did say she felt it was similar to the swelling elsewhere....a direct side effect of her allergic reaction...most likely from heavy shaking of her head. She took her off the pain medication because based on her assessment she was puzzled by the prescription. She prescribed instead, a course of steroids to help with the inflammation, redness, scratching and edema. My point in all of this is that Dundee failed my animal. They failed because the doctor dismissed our concerns and did not address her obvious discomfort and physical symptoms. In my opinion, an emergency vet should have been more open, more proactive, and more thoughtful. Based on their experience handling complicated cases, I think that knowledge should have come into play last night. I can not say how disappointed I am and how angry that we paid for expertise that they did not apply. Our dog is now resting comfortably and we hope to continue to see improvement. This was a straight forward case....dramatic for us..but not for our vet. That a simple case was not addressed favorably, raises concerns about utilizing thier services for more complex concerns.

Had a wonderful experience here. My dog growls at strangers so it's always difficult to find a good vet who isn't afraid if him, he doesn't bite but he sure makes a lot of noise. Lexi M. did a great job making my dog feel calm, he barely growled at her but she wasn't phased by it and was very professional, he got his routine shots and blood work with minimal stress and she even poped a few treats in his mouth through his muzzle. Would absolutely go here again in the future

Sadly, we had to bring our dog in after hours to be euthanized. After the tech put the IV in her leg, we waited for 25 minutes for the vet to come in, trying to comfort our dog who was in a lot of pain. Finally, I went in the back the room to find the vet who was casually sitting there having a snack. Very unprofessional and extremely upsetting! Also, be aware that their regular prices for everything during normal business hours are at least double than what other vets in the area charge. We will NEVER return.

My husband and I have been going to Dundee Animal Hospital for years. I do not make it a practice of rating businesses on line, but I felt it was very important to say something. I had to make the very difficult decision last week to have my 10-1/2 year old German Shepherd, Duke, put to sleep. EVERYONE I spoke to between the Dundee & Elgin locations were very compassionate and helpful. Duke was no longer able to walk. We arranged for Dr. Gurevich to come to our house. He was so considerate and compassionate. Within a few days, we received a sympathy card. This is the most difficult part of pet ownership - it is good to know Dundee Animal Hospital is there. God Bless.

Meant to do a review here back in March-April(ish). I had gone with my pup Krueger in need of some ASAP help with a papilloma wart he had between his toe. His normal vet could not rid of it and gave me several options to discuss with other surgical animal hospitals. My family had taken our previous pets to Dundee, so I figured why not? I can’t for the life of me remember the doctors name that took him in / looked at him but she was beyond phenomenal, upbeat, and comforting. She had prescribed a wrap and some anti-biotic ointment for Krueger in hopes that “maybe” it would work. After a week, I was impatient and saw no results and was irritable. My pup was also irritable during the whole process so we removed the bandage and I felt a bit hopeless knowing I spent $120+ for some cream HOWEVER… not even a week later when getting his nails trimmed at his normal vet did the wart VANISH!!!! I was shocked but also so beyond happy. I was so nervous, and upset thinking this wart was never going to disappear and sure enough it did. Thank you Dundee!!! It was a lot of stress dealing with the stubborn wart and they were able to get it finally gone. As of May, it still has not returned. 10/10 everyone was so nice from the vet, the front desk, making his appt. As an impatient person, I gotta say.. wait and trust the process because my normal vet took roughly 3 times to rid of the wart and this vet took one whole shot!

I am a veterinarian at another local animal hospital. My 2 year old Cava-poo, Maya, started vomiting on a Saturday and her illness persisted through Sunday. My hospital was closed. I got Maya into Dundee about midnight Sunday night. She was diagnosed with a gastric foreign body and intestinal obstruction, taken to surgery and had the problem fixed by 6:30 am. The professionalism, kindness and care she received is something I can definitely emulate in my own practice. She is healed, home, happy and healthy (how's that for alliteration!). I give the emergency doctors and technicians at Dundee my highest recommendation! A special thanks to Dr. Kindra, who handled Maya's case and performed her surgery! Five stars!

Very poor customer service. Cover up the price. Dales should acting more professional. I have right to know for what exactly I am paying. But 15 minutes of conversation did not help me to understand what the cost is and It’s too bad. I am very disappointed.

I would give this place 0 stars if I could. They advised me to bring my dog to a "specialist" after it was too late. I orginally brought my dog into the one location and they told me there was nothing they could do. Then I brought my dog into the emergency room when his tracea collapsed. They sent me home with pain meds. THEY NEVER CALLED TO CHECK UP ON MY PET!!! I called them back the next day said he isnt getting better. They finally advised me to go see a specialist. Im sorry, they shouldve told me to go there before my dog got so sick to no return. He was 1 and died on my sons birthday, thank you for all your help. Maybe train the damn doctors better - AVOID AT ALL COST

I brought my dog here early in the morning as an emergency and the Dr. was very rude and not sympathetic at all. He made me feel like a horrible dog mom and an inconvenience. I was panicking trying to make the best choices for my girl and he talked to me like I was incompetent. The receptionist staff and techs were very kind, I appreciate them.

I called another location and they weren’t able to help me so I called the East Dundee location and talked to Jane. She was the nicest person and was able to get my dog in on the day I needed. She came out to my car and stood in the rain talking to me about what the doctor said since I couldn’t go in. I will definitely be coming back to this location. Thank you, Jane!

Amazing clinic. My dog had a scheduled c section and she went into labor 3 days early. I couldn't find any place to take her for an emergency c section if needed, and they were able to. She ended up having the one puppy there naturally then the other came at home later on. They answered all of my questions and didn't get annoyed by all my calls in the middle of the night. Gave me great advice and were very friendly! I will be switching them to my regular vet!

UPDATING MY PREVIOUS REVIEW (below, for refrence): Unfortunately my cat declined again on Saturday. Against my better judgement, and for the sake of time/distance, I brought him back here. COMPLETE 180 from last time, it was almost as if it was an entirely new shop. They were SO professional, timely, and empathetic. Upon arriving (they were expecting us) they swiftly grabbed my baby, and brought him in to be examined. Which ultimately ended with us having to put him down. Dr. Kristi Knott brought us (four) in there to be with him, and walked us through every step of what was going to happen. She was empathetic, understanding, she listened to the stories we told, and gave us all the time we needed to make the difficult next move. I am so impressed with the professionalism showed. The only caveat that holds me back from giving them 5 stars is the COVID protocol's currently enforced. Not being able to be in the waiting room, or anywhere in the building until it was the end was very frusturating, and ascientific. If bars and restaurants can be open, I should be welcome in your front lobby to wait. Not to mention the ability to take on personal risk, if people are nervous or immunocompromised, they can wait in the car. I would have preferred to be involved in every step possible. Either way, nice job Dundee Animal Hospital. ---------------- My cat had a rough day this last week, so I brought him here. At first they were very polite and offered to take him quickly. They told me there was nothing wrong with him and I should take him home to rest. At home my cat began pawing the air for oxygen bc he couldn’t breathe. I immediately called these guys back and asked if I could bring him back in, they said yes. We rushed there & upon arriving was told there would be a wait for the “next available technician” - 30 minutes waiting in the cold where my baby could barely breathe, and we called back and was told they “are dealing with other critical patients” (there was no other cars in the lot) We ended up going to crystal lake emergency hospital and they took us right away. My advice, if it’s an emergency - keep driving.

They are always good to the dogs and cats. They are helpful if you have questions. The vet does talk to you. He explains the situation clearly.

They scheduled my dog an appointment at 3:20 and they were 45 minutes late. Very unreliable.

Unfortunately my first dealing with Dundee Animal Hospital was putting down my dog. But I couldn’t be happier or more appreciative of all that they did for me and my special little guy. Their compassion during the process was professional and compassionate. And to my surprise today I received a condolences card with my dogs foot prints. Thank you all!

6hrs and $600 later...but thankful for how they treated our sick kitty. The vet and nurses were all fabulous and helpful, the wait is really the only thing to complain about but I understand it's from patient overflow from other nearby clinics (what's up with that? holiday rush? more places closed due to covid?). I recommend this clinic but also recommend driving home to wait for your pet/bringing a car phone charger/bringing snacks lol. Thank you to the doc and nurses who helped our little guy feel better ????

If your pet is in need of assistance, and you need immediate response, do not call this place!!! They will tell you to Google it and educate yourself. Now, what type of emergency clinic does that? Very unprofessional one! If you want your pets to stay alive call somewhere else!!!!!!!

My poor cat is in pain and suffering. I called ahead of time to let them know what was going on. They told me they’ll take care of her as soon as someone is available. All these other cars that came after me are all gone. I called again and the lady rudely said “there’s other clinics available you know” who says that????” I just want Luna to be relieved from all the pain she’s going through. Don’t recommend this place at all!!! Update: My sweet Luna passed away today. Do NOT bring your pets here!!!

Thanks to the team from Dundee Animal hospital and Dr Kersting, my animal that I brought into my care has flourished well and has become a normal happy dog even with her disabilities. Thanks to them im sure my dog pepper will live and long and fruitful life.

Brought my german shepherd puppy here for the first time after he was bit by another dog on a Sunday afternoon, when our normal vet was closed. Amazing experience with the front desk staff and Dr. Kersting. Due to Covid, couldn't go in, but the vet talked me through everything and took great care of our pup. He had bad swelling afterwards during the healing process, they had me send updates pictures and Dr. Kersting checked on him a week later just to ease my mind. Awful situation, but it couldn't have been handled better. Highly recommend Dr. Kersting!

Had a disappointing experience with them last night. My dog had vomited 10 plus times in the matter of an hour with a lot of blood and diarrhea. I informed them of this calling back several times. They did not want to see her and instructed us to wait 3 plus hours and call again at that time. Took her instead to Golf Rose (they are fabulous)- found out she has pancreatitis. Shaking my head. Trying to be understanding but .....
