We had a wonderful experience with people from WSHS. The application and adoption process was very easy. They are super friendly and helpful.

Literally wanted to give my 6 year old cat a friend because he is lonely and has lots of energy and I saw this beautiful kitten that I thought was perfect and yet was denied because he hasn’t had a wellness check. I literally had him at the vet last year because he was sick (and I mean visibly sick) and the vet checked EVERYTHING from his teeth to his blood and everything was normal he just had gastritis which was treated. And yet I was denied BEFORE EVEN MEETING THE CAT! Like what does his vet history have to do with me meeting the kitten?! She would’ve been happier living here than that place. Thank you for breaking my heart and ruining a chance for a kitten to have a nice loving home.

Very clean and well run. They take precautions for the well-being of both the animals and guests.

My mom went here recently to adopt a kitten and after the meet and greet, Kitty called her back the next day and was very rude and unprofessional. My mom was on the phone with a relative (who has 5 cats from WSHS) to talk about the kitten she was meeting. Turns out they were eavesdropping on her conversation and the next day when Kitty called back she was asking why my mom was on the phone with someone. Long story short she wouldn't let my mom adopt the cat because there were too many "problems". Very disappointed how this situation was handled.

Old review, posted 2.5 years ago: I got my dog here, Beauregard, two years ago. He has some issues, but I fully understood that he probably would when I first came in to find a dog. You never know what has happened to a dog unless you followed it from birth and for shelter dogs that is not commonly possible. My Beauregard may have night terrors and separation anxiety, but he is still one of the best things to ever happen to me. I understand that people want to make sure you are serious when you take an animal home, so I hope that the staff is just being careful in its choices. Update, 11/10/2021: Beauregard is almost 5 now and he is still one of the best things to ever happen to me. I love him so much, updated photo below. Beau got a sister 2yrs back, her name is Bellatrix. Yes, they are a rambunctious duo, and I love every minute of it. ????

15 years ago a volunteer at WSH found a stray dog picked up and set to be put down in central Il, he felt he may be able to place this almost year old beast with a good family, and drove down to pick him up. We got word via a friend who worked at WSH and made an appointment to view him! It was love at first site! We had to jump through hoops because he had absolutely no training, so we couldn’t take him home until he passed all safety criteria.About 6 mths later we were finally able to bring him home. We were told dogs his size usually live 9-11 years because of his size ( Rhodesian Ridgeback-Mastiff mix). Well after almost 15 years we finally had to put Killian down, and we’d like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for saving his life, and allowing us the pleasure of his presence for these 14+ years! We are heartbroken but blessed! Thank You All Sooo much!

We adopted Wallace, a kitten, yesterday and this Humane Society is by far one of the cleanest and most well-run shelters I've ever seen. They truly love and have concern for the animals here so please, please support them!

Such an amazing place! Eric was a great help to us and let us know all the information a new cat owner would need. They even gave us a few tips. I would absolutely recommend them to people looking for help. All the staff was very friendly and the animals seemed very comfortable in a clean place. Thanks again!

I went for a volunteer orientation and Heidi was very detailed on the entire process. The facility is beautiful and well cared for inside and out. We toured the entire facility and met one of the dogs in the exercise yard. The facility reminds me a lot of a shelter I volunteered at in Dublin, California. I look forward to volunteering my time here since the passing of our 15 year old senior dog, Paulie in July of 2021.

We adopted our first pet from WSHS. She's the sweetest most beautiful girl we could ever ask for. WSHS staff have been amazing throughout this process. They've shared valuable resources with us after adoption. We're grateful for our beautiful girl and what WSHS does!

I adopted two kittens from them about a month ago and I will say that this humane society does a great job. You can tell they really care about their animals which is so important in a humane society. The kittens were born at their foster parents' house and they took excellent care with them to the point that it made it really easy for them to adjust to me. They played with their paws, picked them up a lot, and did everything they could to socialize and work with them. My other little boy, Freddie, was not born at her house but was around the same age as the kittens that were. They ended up fostering him too and nursed him back to health as he was starved as a kitten and had gotten pretty sickly. Now he is really healthy and has tons of personality. He is also really affectionate towards humans and I think the love and care he got has his foster home really bolstered and encourage that affection. The shelter itself allowed me to come up and meet the kittens. They then stayed in regular contact with me, sending me updates on the kittens' conditions and sending me whatever paperwork they had on my fellas. They even emailed and checked in with me a week or two in. On top of that, the boys' foster parents have been amazing and allowed me to contact them with any questions big or small (which I definitely did considering this is my first time owning cats). If you are looking for a pet, particularly a cat, and want to adopt them from a shelter that truly cares for the pets and is willing to help you throughout the life of the cats, you can't go wrong with West Suburban Humane Society. I always considered myself a dog person more than a cat person but now I can say that I am equal parts cat and dog person. This is in part because the cats I lived with previously were from WSHS also and were amazing, sweet boys, and now my boys are purrfect. WSHS allowed me to find my inner "Crazy Cat Lady".

We adopted Tina from West Suburban Humane Society around a week ago and they were great! They seemed very invested in their animals and gave us lots of information to help us introduce her into our home. The only reason I put 4 stars is, they didn’t mention she was underweight and we should be feeding her more than we usually would. She’s a sweet and adorable kitty who is super friendly, vocal, and cuddly. I definitely recommend them to any future adopters! [Tina is 4 1/2 months old] . (There are some reviews from a while ago that say the place smells bad, or they were harsh with applications, but it smells good and their application process is great for finding perfect, capable, owners for their animals!)

Volunteered here with my daughter. Animals are well taken care of. Hardest part was leaving at the end of the shift because there was always an animal we wanted to take home.

We had a wonderful adoption process with WSHS! They were flexible with setting up a time to meet with our new kitty and sent us away with more than enough support and supplies to make her transition positive! The animals are living large there and are definitely loved! Our cat is one of the most social we've met and I know her experiences at WSHS helped her with that!

This was my first dog adoption after my pitty passed away. WSHS was very helpful and informative. They worked with us and gave us our space since we were between another dog. Honestly Rogue now Chance and I are a perfect match. He's loves the active lifestyle, leadership and love we give him. We are grateful to WSHS and Bark Avenue for giving us what we needed.

We just adopted a 3 month old puppy and couldn’t be more pleased with the experience. We adopted another dog from a different shelter 8 months ago, and while she’s amazing and a great fit for our family, we felt that WSHS was much more thorough with the adoption process. They required our entire family to meet the puppy as well as our current dog. I feel this ensured that we knew that we were the right fit for the puppy and the puppy was the right fit for us. Charlie and Augie are now the best of friends and we are so grateful to WSHS for such a wonderful experience. Everyone was a pleasure to work with!

This was my first pet adoption, and it was a wonderful experience. The kind and patient staff, both in in the office and out in the back, were great with helping us find just the right dog for our family. The volunteers who introduced us to the dogs had training experience and were very helpful in explaining the different personalities/traits of the dogs we met. The animals were clearly well taken care of at their facility, and the detailed adoption process assures me that they are dedicated to placing their animals in a healthy, loving home. A year later, we couldn’t be happier. Thanks!
