I love Border Tails, their staff are super friendly and they make the process quick and easy. I wanted every dog there. I can't be trusted to go here alone because I would bring home with as many dogs as I could.

Great spot to adopt!! Everyone there genuinely cares about the well-being of the animals. They make sure the situation is suitable for both pet/owner and will match you up with the perfect pet!

Love this shelter! Friendly staff and they are knowledgeable about the dogs and so great with them. I had to go in the back room and the cages were clean and the dogs were nicely accommodated, as much as you can in a full shelter. Would definitely recommend if you wanted help choosing the right animal for you.

It was great we got our English Bulldog from there and she is wonderful healthy well behaved a sweetheart My husband and I are very happy with her and are other 2 dogs they adore her and she adored them Our experience with the Shelter was wonderful they were very kind and sweet with us.

My wife and I adopted our English Bulldog Maizey, from Border Tails Rescue. The adoption experience was simple, professional, and a great experience over all. This is a wonderful rescue that truly cares about all animals, and we’re so happy to have worked with them. The owner of the rescue is quite young, but she’s very intelligent and professional, and does a great job handling all of the operations, intakes, and adoptions there. My wife and I have fostered animals for many years, and worked with many rescues and humane societies, and we know a well run organization when we see one. We’d highly recommend Border Tails Rescue to anyone. We’ll be happy to continue to support their rescue efforts via donations in the future, as we live in Wisconsin, so volunteer options aren’t quite feasible. They are an independent funded rescue, and can use any and all help they can get to do their work. We can’t thank them enough for taking such good care of Maizey until we became her forever family. Thank you again.

I have had quite a few awesome experiences with BTR. 1st off, I fostered for them! They were responsive, kept in touch and provided all the medical care that my foster puppy needed, which included a few vet visits for an upset tummy and in no time he was as good as new! They then found him the perfect adoptive home. I really liked the textable medical emergency line, and that they were available by phone and email at the main line for other questions! After fostering and having such a great experience, I decided to volunteer. After just a few volunteer visits, I have nothing but the utmost respect for the staff there. They have a full staff that works around the clock to ensure that the dogs are taken care of. Seeing first hand how incredibly hard the staff works and just how many dogs they save really blows me away. I have been to a few other rescues and to say that the staff at BTR is friendly is an understatement. Previous experiences at other rescues deterred me from volunteering but BTR made me feel so welcome, made sure I was trained and now I am a valued member of their volunteer team. At just 1 year old, they have accomplished so many things! I am 100% going to adopt from here in the future and encourage anyone looking to foster, volunteer, donate or adopt to check out BTR. One of the coolest things I think is their foster to adopt program, which is a lot different than most other shelters.

**FULL REVIEW IN PICTURES** **Screenshots from poor communication below, as well** We had a bad experience adopting from Border Tails (BT) for various reasons. I’ve rescued dogs my entire life (Wright Way, Anti-Cruelty, 4Paws, Treasured Animal Rescue) and have never had any issues with these shelters. Rescuing from Border Tails was a mistake, other than getting Ernie (previously “Sidney”) from there & we love him dearly. I wouldn’t recommend this rescue & would instead recommend one listed above. 1.There is no background check - they didn’t ask us anything about our home or abilities. It makes me fear for the dogs going to other homes We provided all of Ernie’s needs, despite him being a “foster” before us adopting him. 2. They did not communicate with us about Ernie’s well-being during the foster. They took their money and left it at that. 3. With BT permission, we took Ernie to our vet. We requested his updated vaccination records be sent to our vet multiple times before our appointment with him. They promised they’d get there in time, and they never did. 4. BT said they set up a neuter appt. for Ernie on the 11th in Lisle (30 min away). We got there at 7am, nothing was set up. We called the BT emergency number and the woman apologized multiple times. We waited 45 minutes at Spay Illinois and were both late for work. 5. Accountability 1: They stated that them not sending his up to date vaccination records was their vet’s fault, despite them being responsible for his vaccinations and providing them at the rescue. 6. Accountability 2: They stated that it was Spay Illinois’ fault for the mix-up Thursday morning and that they missed the information. Hard to believe because: Spay Illinois does this every single day and brought up every communication with BT they had and found nothing about Ernie; BT never confirmed our appointment when we requested it; and BT texted us that Thursday morning for Ernie’s weight, breed, and our information (which they would have had if they had already sent the information to Spay Illinois when they claim to have before we were there). Overall: BT did not reach out to us to check on Ernie once throughout his foster time, nor were they responsive when we needed them. BT did not provide any compassion or anything additional to make up for their mistakes, nor did they take accountability for them. They said the $500 adoption fee had to stand because that’s how they rescue more dogs. That being said.. I’m not sure they should be rescuing more dogs when they do not have the resources to effectively/safely rescue the ones that they have. Had the conversation gone like this: “We take responsibility for our mistakes with you in the last few weeks and apologize for the role we played in making this a bumpy process for you. We should have sent the vaccination records as we promised, and we should have confirmed the appointment like you requested. That being said, the $500 adoption fee allows us to rescue dogs and find them safe homes, so that will stand. We will make sure that these issues don’t happen in the future to any of our families” then this review would look extremely different. But here we are.

Border Tails Rescue is an amazing organization that has successfully saved the lives of so many dogs. I started off as a volunteer at this rescue after I met the founder, Harleigh, in spanish class in college. I got to witness the hard work that all the staff do all day every day in order to keep the dogs clean and happy and healthy. On my first day of volunteering I ended up taking home a mom dog and her four 4.5 week old puppies that all needed a lot of love. BTR was so supportive, emotionally and financially, through the entire foster process with those dogs. With their support I was able to properly care for and raise all five of the dogs until they were all eligible for adoption and completely healthy. I ended up adopting the mom because I fell in love with her and she was a perfect dog. The adoption process was so easy and painless and the staff at BTR are absolutely wonderful. I have recommended BTR to all my friends and family because they really care about the dogs and it is an amazing organization run by someone who works hard every day to save as many dogs as she can.

I adopted for the first time and this place made it such a great experience! I was looking at different shelters but the staff here are nice and really took their time answering any questions I had. The application and adoption process was super quick and efficient! A month later, I still reach out with questions about my pup and they’re always quick to answer :)

We came here originally to foster and could immediately see how much they truly care for the animals and do everything they can to find them loving homes. Everyone was very friendly, professional and knowledgeable. We took in a foster and ended up adopting her. The process was seamless! They have so many more dogs that need homes and are always saving more from rough situations! I would highly recommend fostering or adopting from Border Tails!

As a volunteer and foster with this rescue, their heart and dedication is very apparent! I always get fast responses and they make sure I have all I need and ask for the foster pups! They have a large group of staff that work hours to ensure all dogs get out multiple times a day and cleaning. They happily worked with me and animal control in Kentucky when we found a stray and he is now happily adopted! Thank you for all you do!

This shelter is such a great place. The employees and owner, take good care of the facility, and treat all of the dogs and puppies as if they were family. I seen the owner love and care for them as she would love another person, and I can say that about all the employees as well. Its a great place to adopt your next family member. We adopted from there are self, her name is Nala. She is a great add on to our family, and this is a place is joy to check out to adopt that new addition to your Family .

Open hours worked great for me to meet and greet all the animals. The staff was patient with me while making my decision and took into account my needs when selecting my puppy. We got our buttercup from here. Every one is so sweet and love what they do.

We adopted two puppies from here and could not be happier. The process went very smoothly and you can tell everyone here really cares about the welfare of the pups. Everytime we've entered the shelter the volunteers/employees were working hard to save lives. ❤️????

I have been a volunteer for Border Tails Rescue Since shortly after they opened. I love to see the hard work and determination of a new rescue Thriving to become another voice for the homeless and helpless dogs. Running a rescue is not for the faint of heart, I am so proud of this entire staff and team for devoting their lives, or should I say giving up their lives to live the life of rescue. I stand behind this rescue 100% and have been working with different rescues for 40 years. Let's hear it for the newbie and be sure to stop in if you're looking for a new best friend. We adopted a sweet boy named Ash and we are so happy! The staff was amazing, took their time with us and we couldn't be happier! They have so many fur babies that need homes. Definitely check them out ????

Very easy to foster.We foster 7 puppies and 1 mama and it was a lot of fun.We adopted one dog out and doing vaccinations and the adoption process was super easy.Just pull up and they come right to you in minutes.Filled out an application to foster and the same day we’re fostering newborn puppies.So much fun 10/10 recommend!!
