I have been taking our 3 dogs and several foster dogs to North Avenue for over 5 years. They will do everything they can to squeeze money out of you. They refused to assist us when we desperately needed a general antibiotic for our senior dog and we were 12 hours away and unable to get into the only veterinarian in the remote part of the US we were in. Once we were finally able to get back to Chicago they prescribed the exact same medication I asked for over the phone....SHOCKER. Meanwhile our dog had a painful ear infection (which she gets all the time) for two weeks without meds. I tried giving them a second chance after the above incident only to get backed into getting blood work done on my other dog that just had blood work done in July to get a refill of medication that she cannot stop taking cold turkey. The reason "oh well we have to do blood work to make sure she is doing okay on this specific medication" our other senior dog is on the exact same medication and they have never once done blood work to make sure she was responding okay to it. Congratulations on royally wasting our time and money.

Kind and caring team! Excellent work, our 17 year old cat had a dental extraction here with sedation, no problems. Very trustworthy vet!

I went here for years; and for years they were serviceable as a vet. But when things started to really take a turn for my pets health wise, and that is when I began to realize how poor quality this vet is in both compassion and service. They are a money first and foremost vet, with little concern for the advice they are giving. My cat was having issues throwing up, and I reached out for advice. I never received a call back, I had to call a day later to hear that the doctor left a note. The vet recommended antacid. After the issue was determined by Medvet through ultrasound that it was in their intestines, the vet still just said antacids. I eventually got a second opinion wherein antacids would have no effect on the problem area. They are awful about conducting payment from an administrative standpoint as well. They will hold a pet back until they are paid in full. If you’re pet is fine and you live near by, then this place will charge and upsell as you might expect, and be fine. If you are near by it makes sense, but I would have another vet for second options on issues because I would not trust their process.

Update: While I am not happy with the particular encounter I described below, the hospital did reach out and offered a partial credit for the prescription. The fact they spent time to talk to me and do something about the situation shows to me they learned from this situation. Hopefully they make sure to communicate pricing and alternatives for medication sources to other patients during covid. I strongly believe getting medication at the lowest price is important for healthcare as it makes it more likely for everyone to be able to afford the care their pets need. So in light of what I just said I have revised my 1 star review to 4 stars, as I have been happy with all other aspects of my pets care so far. I would like to start off by saying we are very satisfied with the care Dr. Cherrick has provided for our senior dog. She puts a lot of thought and care into her work, and is willing to answer as many questions as we have when she briefs us after an appointment. However, I felt the need to leave this one star review after we got a refill for a common pain medication. The generic is only $10-15 a bottle, but once we got the receipt and meds after the visit, we noticed we were charged $100 for the same refill but of the name brand version. We had no idea we would be charged 10 times the price we have always paid in the past when going to different vets. We even mentioned we have only ever gotten the generic pills. The real kicker is once the meds leave the office we cannot return them. Because of covid precautions we received the pills and the receipt at the same time when they brought our dog out. It is simply unacceptable to charge so much with no warning and no refunds for a common prescription that we can easily have filled online for a fraction of the price. I have a lot of bills to pay coming out of college, and so I need to budget carefully to make sure my dog can get all the care he needs. When I called the office I was told repeatedly there was nothing they could do to help us out despite us not knowing the full situation until it was too late. I should also mention we have not opened the prescription/given our dog any of these new pills at this point, as I wanted to get a refund. Despite liking the care that Dr. Cherrick provides we will likely be finding a new vet unless we can get this charge refunded.

I've been going to them since 2008. I can go to closer places but I feel like they have great bed side manners and really care for the animals. Went elsewhere a few years back with my kitty that had renal issues and that place didn't talk me through the seriousness of the issues. Kitty got sick again over the weekend and took him to north ave animal hospital where they informed me of the severity and prescribed supplements. My kitty's life was extended quite a bit and he was living comfortably and happily bc the vet told me what to do and what I was dealing with. That other place tho, omg I don't know how they stay in business. Also helpful, they run on schedule and that's a big plus (besides the helpful parking lot). Ok, I just love this place.

I've taken 3 pets here so far and they have seen two different vets. The vets and rest of staff have all been very caring, thorough and informative, and are *very* patient with any questions you may have (I'm a first time kitten owner so had a LOT). 10/10 definitely recommend

They were able to help with my dogs environmental allergy problem, without gouging me for money like the vet in the West Loop did.

Dr. Roman (and his associates) have been my regular vet for nearly 10 years! Kind and attentive with flexible scheduling. My cats and dog are never afraid to go here. The doctor and staff were wonderful when we had to put our previous dog to sleep and were equally so helping us find a specialist when one of our cats developed a rare illness. I highly recommend this office.

My family and i have been going here since we recently got a pet. Dr. Roman is the greatest most honest vet ever. And jessi, man what cant we say she is always very helpful and understanding every time we call to ask for help when our dog is ill. When we walk in to the office she remembers our pets name. That melts our heart!! We know we are going to the right place. Thank You Dr. Roman and Jessi
