I have been a client and devotee since the very first week Met Vet opened their doors and I happened upon a new business on my afternoon run. I stopped in and spoke with a vet who was incredibly welcoming and explain to me what made their business different from the many others in the area. She actually did not have to because from the advertising alone it was clear that they sought to appeal to urban professionals like me who had atypical schedules. As a lawyer and business owner, my work has never followed standard business hours. I immediately fell in love with a business that cared enough to stay open long enough so that I could collect my pets after 7 PM and/or drop off my pets early morning for appointments. having any additional flexibility in the early morning or late evening has made being an urban pet owner so much less stressful. Previously, though I lived in the south loop, I would need to travel to the emergency veterinarian hospital on the north side if one of my pets had a moderate issue that couldn't wait until morning in the evening or on a Sunday. The staff at Met Vet are phenomenal and incredibly responsive and accommodating to many unique requests. They have specialities and expertise not found at smaller vet clinics. And did I not mention the forgiving hours? I recently moved and one factor that sealed my decision on location was its even closer proximity to the place that takes great care of my cats!

I love this place. My go to docs are Dr. Jacobs and Dr. Natarajan. They are extremely personable, kind, patient, and most of thorough in their practice. I had the pleasure of meeting Pam, the vet technician. I appreciate her calm nature. All of the vet techs and front desk staff are extremely nice and patient with me. ;)

Thank goodness for Dr. Jacobs and the other fantastic doctors and loyal staff at Metropolitan Veterinary Center! A new pup mom, I was nervous having my one year-old Shih Tzu go in for surgery... Dr. Jacobs consoled me providing complete details of the diagnosis and surgery... Staff called me immediately after surgery to let me know of the successful result/follow-up. First thing next morning who calls but Dr. Jacobs herself to check on my little boy! Yes this is the kind of trusting open relationship with their vets I love and should be... No need to look elsewhere; bring your loving animals here especially if you're in the South Loop.

I agree and had a similar experience as the last two posters. I am in a customer service industry so I would not be posting this unless I felt it absolutely necessary to warn others before they bring their pet here. It’s a revolving door of visits where no resolution is being found, but they are continuing to rack up fees. We actually did find an anti anxiety medicine, that worked for my dog, but in order to get a refill I needed to bring him back for blood work to the tune of $300. And instead of refilling the meds that worked, they switched him to meds that don’t work. It’s been 2 days and now they want me to bring him in for another examination to find meds that work. How bout you just give us a refill of the pills that worked like you said you would?!! Stop with the circular logic. This isn’t the first vets office I’ve been to, but it’s definitely the worst!! my dog is almost 10 years old so I’m familiar. I only switched vets for convenience as I moved to this neighborhood. As if that weren’t enough, he caught kennel cough while he was there. It’s only been 2 days so he hasn’t been to a dog park or groomers or anything recently, so yeah he got it there. And now you want to charge me for the antibiotics to cure the kennel cough that you gave him??!! This place is unreal!! Glad to see I’m not the only one who feels like they are scamming. Taking advantage of people who are worried about their pets is deplorable. Maybe it’s time to get the news or IDFPR involved because they clearly arent making changes based on our feedback.Who’s running this place???!!!

I went there for routine checks and an emergency visit for my cats. They are convenient in terms of location, and their treatments seem ok. However, on the other hand, their charges are way overpriced (e.g., selling you a over the counter med 3x the price than the PetSmart nearby). Also, they will try their best to recommend unnecessary exam items to rip you off. My cat was dehydrated due to environmental change, and we took him here for an emergency visit. We ended up with a $800 bill

All the staff I've interacted with are kind, professional, and patient. That goes for the front desk staff, the technicians, and the veternarians. They took time to answer all our questions, made us feel welcome, and were great with our dog. We are new dog owners and visited here twice over the last 3 weeks. The frist time because she came down with a case of kennel cough that we initially thought was G.I. distress or an intestinal blockage. Metropolitan Veterinary Center was the only place nearby that was open on a Sunday morning. They took me as a walk-in that morning, no appointment, no call ahead. They took her back within about 5 minutes, and I was out of there in about 30 minutes. Everyone at the front desk, the techs, and Dr. Sahar were lovely. They also followed up with me to check on her a few days later, and responded to several emails from us over the next couple weeks about her cough, which did finally clear up on its own. The second time was for our well visit today, which was also a great experience. The tech (Pamela) and Dr. Balser took time to answer all our questions and were generally wonderful. We will be returning to Metropolitan Veterinary Center for our dog in the future.

My experience at Metro Vet center was very mixed. For one, I really liked the doctor who saw my kitten and the front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. However, I felt that the prices were very high compared to what I have paid in the past for veterinary care. For 2 shots, 10 gabapentin pills, and a physical, I paid $250 (more than 2x what I had paid at my previous vet). Additionally, they had me send in all my past veterinary documents through an online portal (I received a voicemail reminder for my appointment and they confirmed they had received all my documents in that voicemail), and when I arrived for my appointment and was in the room with the technician, they hadn’t looked at the documents and were struggling to find them. They called my old vet and my old vet had to email all the documents over in that moment (although there were other documents from her adoption too I had uploaded that the old vet didn’t have). The next day, my cat was acting really tired and slow, which made me nervous. I looked it up and saw that this is a semi-common side effect of the rabies vaccine, although the veterinary office didn’t warn me about this possibility.

Took my dog in for a new pet exam. She had bad allergies and they prescribed her two meds for "preventative measures" which ended up poisoning her and causing her to throw up 7 times and become super dehydrated. The vet tech at the time forgot to give me her medications, additional pill pusher, and did not tell me how to properly give them to her without me asking her first. When she was poisoned and we called for help, they never called back and put me on hold 6 times when I called back two hours later. The vet tech was also never informed of why she came in so she was unaware of the information to tell me to take care of her yet again. Long story short the care was very unprofessional and uneducated and I would never trust them with her again.

While we have received decent service at this vet, their business practice has ultimate made this bad review inevitable. Was told that I have to pay for a wellness checkup every six months if I wish to renew my dog’s prescription for preventive medication (Heart-worm and flea and tick), even if my dog is healthy and I took her to Metropolitan for vaccinations and annual checkups. Here is the background for anyone who might end up in a similar situation: For the past four years, we go here annually for checkups, vaccinations, other procedures etc. Last time we came in for the routine was in April 2021. Since COVID our family decided to relocate for half a year. Fast forward to two weeks ago when our heart-worm medication ran out, I contacted Metropolitan to renew my prescription. Metro called to reply that since we haven’t been seen for FIVE MONTHS, they were unable to approve that prescription. I was taken aback and decided to call again. I explained that our last visit found our dog healthy so there was no need to visit again in the last five months. Also that we can pick up the prescription in person when we’re back in Chicago. The receptionist replied, “I’m sorry that your dog has been healthy, but we can’t renew the prescription until you come back for a wellness checkup.” I hung up at that point. To hear the vet lament the health, not sickness of a dog was truly a sad moment.

Our puppy has been is clear discomfort and chewing at her leg for over a month now. We have been calling nonstop and been to office multiple times to get this looked at. She also has an obvious vaginal infection that has also been down played. This vet has repeatedly dismissed her issues and now has a massive wound on her leg and her infection has become severe. They have charged us an asinine amount of money just to continually ignore our issues. I feel scammed at the expense of my puppies health. These are common and simple issues to resolve. We went to an animal hospital and were treated with respect and immediacy for a fraction of what this vet has charged us. She’s already feeling better. I’m so upset they let her health get so bad.

There aren’t enough words to describe how thankful I am and how amazing Dr Jacobs and her team are at this clinic. My dog was attacked by another dog and was bleeding a lot. One of the other owners recommended I go to Metropolitan Vet center and they would take care of Charlie. From the minute I walked in to when I left, I had never felt so secure for myself and my dog. I knew we were in good hands. The gentleman at the front desk immediately called to the back and told me they would take care of Charlie and someone came and got him within 1 minute. I was clearly in hysterics because I was worried about my dog. They brought me in a room and Dr Jacobs came in and explained everything. She was so empathetic and caring and just helped ME calm down and know everything was going to be okay. Thank you guys so much for taking care of Charlie. We are so happy to be in your care during this time!

My poor kitty, Gus, needed an urgent appointment due to his allergies. I was lucky enough to find this amazing office to care for him. Everyone was so nice and very empathetic towards this worried kitty mommy. The doctor did a thorough exam and explained everything to me. They were so gentle with Gus, I think they got a small purr from him. I left knowing what was wrong, and finding out about his gingivitis, and also felt like I could relax knowing what was wrong. Checkout was easy, and the price was very reasonable. We will definitely be back!

I currently have a four month puppy named Cielo. She’s been coming here since her first set of puppy shots with Dr. Balser, and even though, it’s Covid time and never met her in person, she makes me feel that I made a good choice of a vet. She takes her time to explain everything to me and i appreciate that. I’ve had horrible experiences with my previous vets, with my other pets in the past, but this time around I am happy and I already feel more comfortable and relax every time I go (I’m a very anxious person) I love my Cielo so much and I’m happy with Dr. Balser.

I went in twice to see Dr. Ennis. The office is organized and efficient, and it's sweet that they send you home with a cat toy, though it's more expensive than other clinics in the city. However, Dr. Ennis by her own admission didn't know what to do with my cat's problem (recurring conjunctivitis). She also prescribed a medication, neopolybac, that I later learned is not supposed to be given to cats. I took my cat to another vet at Burnham Park Animal Hospital who was able to treat him and eventually make the conjunctivitis go away. Also, the receptionist chastised me for not bringing my cat in for a second visit sooner (it took me one week longer than they'd suggested, just for a follow-up, not for medicine or anything), and she seemed pretty mad, which was silly.

Dr. Jenstead has taken very well care of our girl. Couldn’t imagine having done the puppy process with somebody else. She has exceeded our expectations with always giving the best to our dog. Also metro vet is amazing. The hours are killer which meant they were always there when we needed them most. Great location. All the staff are great and nice. Just go here.

Wanted to get a lump checked out on my k9. So I inquired about it. $80 and 5 minute exam later, was told that it was a pretty harmless sebaceous cyst (as expected) and that they could remove it for somewhere around $500. Well, due to covid it's taken me 9 months to save up the money to have the cyst removed. Called them to schedule and am now told that they need to charge me a new $80 exam, and re-estimate the (completely unchanged) lump if I want the procedure done. So they've lost a customer, and wasted my time. It's not the money, it's the principal. I refuse to let a clearly made up on the spot "policy" (was put on hold so they could discuss it) take advantage of me. You should go elsewhere if you don't like being jerked around.

If you have a cat, take them elsewhere. The doctors here are dismissive and simply do not care beyond getting you to sign up for expensive treatments. Make no mistake, I am more than willing to shell out money for my pets to keep them healthy and comfortable, but every experience I have had with vets at this clinic have made me feel like I'm in a car dealership - the moment you've paid, your pet is no longer a patient, just another box to check. I brought my cat in at least four times since December all for the same issue. Every time I was treated as if this was a brand new situation where they had no information (do these people not save patient records??), had my explanations about behavior change waved away, and when I did ask to have an ultrasound taken, there was never any followup from the clinic. The only "diagnosis" I ever got was "well, sometimes cats do that when they get old." I'm sorry, a cat that is vomiting daily and suffering constipation is not normal and should be treated, not waved away by a vet. I ended up taking my cat to the MedVet hospital instead and while the cost was exponentially higher, at least my cat was treated like an animal and not a dollar sign. Save yourself time, stress, and worry and go to a cat specific clinic instead. EDIT: Three months on and my cat is now healthy and happy again after getting a proper diagnosis, medication, and treatment plan from the Chicago Cat Clinic. I strongly encourage you to make the drive to the doctors at the CCC, it is worth it!

Sent my pup to get his first set of vaccinations and a check up, in the span of 3 days he stopped eating, no energy, could barely walk or stand and slowly stopped drinking, then took him in and they tell me he has kidney and liver failure and there is nothing they can do. Keep in mind prior to this my pup was Healthy running around the house and biting and eating and drinking. This doesn’t make sense to me, how do I take my pup to the vet and he dies 3 days after it’s bs and I hope this never happens to anyone ever. Sorry but it just seems too coincidental that the moment I take my puppy to your clinic his health takes a turn for the worse. Another thing, I was never told exactly what caused this, for a "professional" Veterinary Clinic, that just so surreal to me. So I apologize but I feel my suspicions and actions are justified. This does not make sense to me and it never will. I just want people to be informed of my experience here. I pray that this never happens to anyone ever, my family's heart lost a very big piece.

This place is definitely not interested in new patients with urgent needs. I called on a Sunday morning to schedule a same day appointment for my dog to be seen for an urgent need. I was told that although they are open on Sunday they do not see new patients on Sunday. The person that I spoke to on the phone seemed very cluelesss and aloof. It was like she was reading from a script. The script went something like this: "Is your dog a current patient?" no "We will have to schedule two appointments one for a routine exam and another to address your concerns." This place has poor policies on new patients. I would definitely avoid this place.

I found this place while looking for a vet that was somewhat nearby but that also had good reviews. Pet parents look no further! This is the place you should be taking your fury babies to. Making the appointment was as easy as calling and being welcomed by the incredibly kind and patient staff. I then was emailed the on boarding paperwork and that was super easy to fill out. They called me the day before our appointment to confirm as well as to inform me about their new way of accepting clients due so COVID-19. On the day of the appointment I called when I arrived at the parking lot, they doubled check with me the information I had put in the on boarding paperwork, asked if there was anything else I wanted them to do for my dog and then asked me to bring her to the front door. I can’t remember who greeted me but she was very nice and took my dog and assured me that they’d take good care of her and that the vet would call me in a few minutes and I could wait in my car. I was so nervous about leaving her alone (covid-19 procedure to keep themselves and us safe), but staff completely squashed that worry. The vet (Dr. Veronica Balser) called me about 10-15 minutes after and talked me through the examination, the shots that she should be getting at her age and what they’re for. She gave me tons of information on things to do for her for brushing teeth, shots to look out for in the future and even offered to quote me on her spay surgery and a growth removal surgery. She really took her time with me and answered all of my questions and explained everything in detail. I really appreciate that. I can’t tell you how many vets don’t give any details and don’t take their time with you. She confirmed to the shots and test I agreed to and told me she was going to hang up and they’d call again in about 10 minutes when they’re all done. They called again and told me my dog did great and that they had given her a complimentary nail trim and were giving me a complimentary heart worm dose and Next guard dose! That’s amazing! They then told me that my dog was all set and that I could meet them by the front door to pick her up. They handed my dog over and gave me a little bag with her paperwork (information on the shots and 24hr animal ER’s in case of allergic reactions and gave me complimentary enzymatic chewies, a cute tiny little toothbrush and complimentary poop bags with a pouch! Not only that but they emailed and texted the next day to check on my dog to see if she was doing okay and let me know that they should be emailing my doctors notes in a day. They’re also helping me fill out forms that I need for her to travel with me. They go above and beyond and I think it’s safe to say Metropolitan Veterinary Center has found a new loyal client! Highly recommend them! Side note for those going in during this health crisis: please wear a face mask! They’re putting themselves at risk by continuing to serve our pets. The least we can do is to help protect them by wearing a face mask.

My dog was feeling unwell, having diarrhea, vomiting and was lethargic. Luckily they had a cancellation this Sunday & was able to see us in even though we’re a new patient. The staff was so kind, helpful & professional, and addressed all of our concerns! Our dog left feeling much better, & he clearly loved the staff☺️ The only thing I’d say is that certain aspects can be quite pricey compared to others, like metronidazole at the last place we went to is $1/pill and here it’s $3/pill. But we are truly, truly impressed with the quality of service & care. Thank you Metro Vet!

Maybe it was just my lucky day, but I called about emergency treatment for my dog who was bitten pretty severely at the dog park and needed some stitches. The practice was open and had availability right away to bring my pup in. The doctors and staff were so friendly and thorough, treated my dog so kindly, and provided excellent care! I am definitely going to switch veterinary providers to Metropolitan Veterinary Center. They went above and beyond to take care of my beloved canine companion. Many thanks to everyone that works there for making my and my pup's experience so pleasant!

Summary: This place is a scam. Every interaction with Metropolitan Vet has caused me extreme emotional distress. I needed a health certificate by an USDA accredited vet for my cat. We were moving to England. I had done my research and knew the vet had no idea what she was talking about. She would leave the room and tell me she had to google everything. She printed out a random website she found and gave it to me. Then she charged me $300 for the certificate. I go to the USDA office (4hr drive roundtrip w traffic) with the certificate and they said this is not the official certificate. The USDA rep was very kind and patient, and they called Metropolitan Vet to tell them they can get the certificate from their website with step by step instruction. Then I rescheduled to go back to the office to get a correct certificate. They claimed their earliest appointment for this particular thing was a few days from now. Few days later, AN HOUR before the appointment, they called and said sorry, we decided that we will not be doing the health certificate and they didn’t even offer to issued a refund of the $300. I had to demand it and they had to call me back about it. What on earth! Bonus points, the vet told me that my cat had heart murmurs and abnormalities. When I came back with my cat to follow up, they said that he doesn’t have anything wrong with him. Weeks of wasted time and money. Because of regulations, this process needed to be done within days of your flight. We had to leave our cat behind with a caretaker. Every interaction with Metropolitan Vet has caused me extreme emotional distress. Shortly after, the world got hit by COVID-19. I have not seen my cat in 6 months.

We continue to be impressed with the level of care our dog has received at MetroVet since we started taking her here as a puppy over 2 years ago. We normally see Dr. Balser, who is a wonderful fit for both our dog and us as owners. She always explains pros and cons of any course of treatment or test and answers any questions we may have about best practices for day-to-day care. She's very straight forward and understanding in what things may or may not fit into a client's lifestyle and offers a range of workable options to maintain pet health in a realistic way. We have also seen Dr. Natarajan, Dr. Ennis, and Dr. Jacobs for various things, like when we need to get in quickly for an appointment to address a specific issue, and all have been equally knowledgeable, professional, and caring. (Dr. Natarajan especially was so helpful and kind when we were working through diagnosis of some knee problems that ended up requiring surgery.) I also appreciate the responsiveness to phone and email questions: you know for things when you're wondering whether or not this thing is something you should bring your pet in to have looked at. Again, the detail in the reasoning for whether or not to bring your pet in, how quickly, and directions for what to watch-out for in the meantime is exceptional. And, of course, the flexibility offered by their extended hours is such a convenience. You get both convenience and quality care at MetroVet, I can't imagine taking my sweet girl anywhere else.
