I have been taking my cat to Dr. Johnson for almost ten years I believe. I have been fully confident in his care and suggestions for Keke. He is always thorough and kind and has never pushed services that I don’t need. Once Dr. Johnson does his initial assessment of my cat and makes his recommendation for treatment that day, whether routine or something special, he has the staff come in and explain the itemized costs of everything before going any further. That gives me the opportunity to decide on whether or not I can do everything in one visit etc. The very first time I went there, I was in the waiting room and there were numerous binders with tons of thank you letters from pet owners thanking him for his care over the years. Dr. Johnson shows great sincerity in caring for my cat as I know he does for everyone’s pet. I have had nothing short of a positive experience at Birdneck Animal Hospital.

An ex girlfriend took MY dog in for a vet visit and signed him up for their “health care plan” without my consent and even though she was not the rightful owner of the dog I am responsible for paying 50$ a month for the next lab for a year. No one at Birdneck animal hospital asked her if she was the OWNER of the dog and allowed her to sign up for the plan. How is this fair? It’s not

They don’t take any appointments on Thursday because the doctor is out so why are they open again? Make it make sense

I scheduled a checkup for my senior dog (13 yrs old) and we got to see Dr. Johnson who was incredibly caring and gentle to my aging pup. His assistant was just as impressive as she kept him calm and had an overall great read of the room, if my dog got antsy or uncomfortable, she would adjust and redirect him. Dr. Johnson gave us wonderful advice and offered affordable treatment plans as well. My experience at Birdneck Animal Hospital was excellent & it’s honestly a relief to have found them.

I love Birdneck Animal Hospital - I got the recommendation from a neighbor who has a golden named Sailor. When I walked in, Sailor was featured as the pet of the month with her picture on the wall which was so cool! It is very easy to make an appointment there, and I was able to talk to Dr. Johnson and go into the exam room with Ziggy, my golden mix. We are new to Virginia Beach, and this is the first time I’ve been able to speak to a vet and go into the exam room since we brought Ziggy home almost two years ago which was amazing! Everyone was masked, so I felt very safe. Dr. Johnson took his time with Ziggy and made sure all of my questions were answered. From being in the room, I remembered some things I would have not mentioned if I was unable to go back with Ziggy. Dr. Johnson is a very caring doctor, and it is evident in how he treated Ziggy with kindness and compassion. I highly recommend Birdneck Animal Hospital - I’m very excited to have found such an amazing vet and staff including Amanda to care for Ziggy!!

I contacted them about euthanizing my pet. I called I spoke to the receptionist I asked her how much it was she gave me one price I had to wait a whole another day while my pet was laying there suffering and they scheduled me for late in the afternoon. Then upon arrival I had to wait then when they got me back there they were very nice and polite explained my options to me. Then when they took my pet back to put an IV in him so they could give him the injection. That is when the receptionist came back into the room as I was waiting for my pet to return and told me it was almost twice what I was told over the phone. So luckily I had the money otherwise I would have had to take my pet with him suffering on the verge of death and go elsewhere. So as far as manners very polite as far as professionalism and making sure you understand how much it's going to cost, I give him a half star.

My fiance and I just moved to the area and had no knowledge of animal hospitals in the area. My dog Sunny was in a lot of pain and we tried all the emergency animal hospitals and couldn’t get in. Birdneck so graciously allowed us to come in and Dr. Johnson saw our Sunny. The staff was so kind and patient with our Sunny. They offered a great treatment plan that was accommodating and affordable. We will be back and plan on making them our primary care for Sunny!

I’m not originally from VB so it took me a while to find a vet. This one is less than half a mile from my house so I decided to check them out. EVERYONE here is very passionate about their job :) thank you my Tally is healthier than ever!

After reading the reviews I was skeptical of this vet but, since most all of the 1 star reviews were over price and personality vice malpractice, I decided to give it a go. I could not have been more happy with the highly knowledgeable staff and Doctor J. What a great experience. Brought in a 65lb rescued Pit with no vet experience. They loved on him and made him feel as comfortable as possible. All prices were laid out and explained, recommendations were highlighted as only recommendations, and I felt they were more than reasonable prices. All and all it was probably a 15-20 minute exam and a 15 minute conversation. I get less then that on my health plan!! I Highly recommend this vet clinic, Dr. Johnson, and the vet techs.

I love Dr Johnson and the staff. Very caring, very responsive and getting help and answers to questions quickly. I love that they offer health plans for various stages of life of my cats and dogs, saving a lot of money compared to other providers

First, Dr. Johnson and his staff are amazing, professional and great at what they do. I know people will say "oh it's a little more expensive than xyz vet" well it's worth it. The difference in cost is met with the higher quality of care, a thorough explanation of what went on during the visit and what they advise as well as great care of your pet. I can't say enough about this vet, excellent all around!

My old dog has the worst time going to the vet and always has. The staff here is so patient and kind with her that for the first time in a long time she willingly went into the office with no hesitation. I am so grateful for the staff at Birdneck!!

A very caring, sweet and understanding staff. Very willing to answer asked questions, and genuinely do care for your pet. Probably the most up to date vet I've visited. Their payment plans are fair, and they're always upfront about costs before any charges are made. They've been very kind to my senior cat, and I trust them with her health and care. We plan on getting another pet into the next year, and I plan on trusting them with that animals regular care as well as long as we're here in Virginia Beach. Fantastic.

We’ve been taking our dogs to Dr. Johnson for about 5 years now. He and his team are the best. They call to check on our dogs (we have 4) after we visit. The team takes every step possible to ensure our dogs are healthy and happy. I highly recommend Birdneck Animal Hospital. Also, the pet plan through Birdneck is a great value.

Review is for Dr. Johnson's Veterinary Practice in VA Beach on Birdneck. I worked in Veterinary in a different state for 6 years, so I know the frustrating nuances of working in this business. Dr. Johnson's bedside manner was AWFUL. I wasn't surprised to see he literally replies to bad reviews on Google. (Really?!) Not to mention prices were outrageous!! I even worked in a high-end, mixed Small and Large Animal Practice and never saw an estimate close to what we were given. And again, I'm someone who understands why Vet Services HAVE to be a tad high. This is definitely a "sales" practice. We felt they were too pushy with the "wellness plans." I was hopeful this would be my family's go-to Veterinarian, but we got an uneasy and uncomfortable vibe from him. Staff didn't seem very happy either :( Will be going elsewhere.

When I moved here from Ohio, I wasn't sure what vet to go with and then someone recommended Birdneck Animal Hospital. They have taken great care of my Morkie Camille. Dr. Johnson loves his patients and it shows. I have used their kennel and I know my Camille was in great hands. When ever I called, had a question, or needed anything, the staff at Birdneck animal hospital took the time to help. I would definitely recommend them for your furry friend(s).

I am sorry i have to edit my review bc your 2019 prices are just ridiculous.My visit to the doctor is cheaper than my dog .Last year for the same services i paid %75 less than this year.Good luck with new price list.

Birdneck animal hospital is great. They are always great with Molson. My girlfriends dog was having issues for a while and we brought her here. They were very adamant about finding out was wrong and getting the issue fixed.

They take great care of my Dachshund Joey!

I recently moved to VA Beach from out of state. I read all of the reviews prior to deciding to try Dr. Johnson's practice. I have visited this clinic twice now, and both were extremely positive, friendly experiences. The office even put out a "welcome" sign for me and my dog for our first appointment. We received a post card in the mail welcoming us, signed by the employees. Dr. Johnson is an eloquent, friendly man and is very knowledgeable about his work. Our dog was limping unexpectedly, and Dr. Johnson took a conservative but logical approach to our next move. They are upfront about the cost, and you can select or opt-out of any service you don't want to pay for. I was able to review the treatment sheet before services were done. As far as pricing, I have no issues. I think the prices are fair, and I'm not sure where other people are going to the vet but the fact that everything is listed out for you makes it even easier for you to analyze your end cost. At the end of the day, this is an amazing veterinarian clinic and I am so excited to do further business here. I feel like my dog is in excellent hands. Definitely a five star review, unless something crazy changes! Side note, it looks like a lot of reviews had an issue and didn't try to talk to Dr. Johnson. If something doesn't seem right, I would try talking to him first for a resolution.

I had the extreme pleasure of working at Birdneck Animal Hospital for almost 6 years. Dr. Johnson truly cares about his patients and doing what is best for them. He treats them as if they are his own. I have always trusted him for the care of my pets. His many years of experience and extensive knowledge is remarkable. He is amazing with preventative care, he caught early signs of kidney disease in both of my senior pets so we could manage it and prevent if from becoming worse. His pain management with his surgery patients insures they will be comfortable before, during and while in recovery as well as having them monitored throughout the entire process. Dr. Johnson's bedside manner is impeccable! His staff loves animals as much as he does and are always friendly and helpful. Dr. Johnson and the girls treat both clients and patients as family. You will be beyond pleased by trusting Dr. Johnson with your pet's care!

Great and friendly staff and the doctors amazing so caring

Staff is nice. The vets seem very knowledgeable. However, they are extremely overpriced and I have yet to be seen on time. Today for example, I waited for 20 minutes, saw the vet for five minutes, and it was $53.50..... For a recheck.

BF asked me to take our dog in to get a simple bordetella vaccine. Warned me that this place looks for ways to charge money. Ended up paying $150 because they snuck in a physical exam and heart worm test, non of which we asked for. I'm very upset because I feel like they just took advantage of me.

Agree with the reviews that state they upcharge. Just was charged an extra $15 because they had a hard time cutting my dogs nails?!?! Extremely upset with this considering they’ve cut the same dogs nails before at the regular price which is already more expensive than PetSmart
