The SICKEST & MOST COLD HEARTED Place That I Have Ever Been To.. When It Came Down To Finally Putting My Companion ROTTI KAHU Down Down ... They did not even have a dolly/germy to put him on : ( I had to carry my dog into their facility. Then these pathetic girls rushed me out. I Couldn't Even Give My Dog A Hug Good by.. BECAUSE ALL THIS fat lazy female employee WANTED WAS TO GET ME IN WITH KAHU & GET Me Out To Go Get My $140.00 for a shot ** & GET ME OUT : ( .When It Comes To my dogs Kahu's Love Loyalty & Intelligence, these little creatures at the Keaau " Humane Society " are juss CHEAP Humanitarian ACTORS? ** WHAT IS DOG SPELLED BACKWARDS? **. Aloha KAHU, HE WAS THE BEST!

Nice little place to let your dog run off leash for a while.

Nice facility and super nice staff, little difficult to adopt a dog, takes a long time. Drove 87 miles one way to come here and if we even get our application approved it'll take 2 more trips before we can get one and probably won't be the one we wanted Don't understand how they decide who gets one that more than one person wants.?

Be nice if they'd open the dog park on time Just make another key already or change the hours! Every other trip there has been wasted.

I love the idea behind their exsistance but think that they may be understaffed. I tried the adoption process looking forward to adopting one of three pups but havent heard a squeek from them. Its been weeks. Are they in need of more volunteers? I hope they are able to improve with their process.

Awesome care for my fur babies. Their spayed and neutered program is the best.

The Hawaii Island Humane Society also has a Bark Park! This is an off leash dog park facility open to the public. Although it is a smaller off leash park, it is well maintained and offers a variety of exploration for canines. There is an area for smaller dogs and a separate area for midsize to larger dogs. Toys are available as well as a water tub, fire hydrant, water hose, pavilion, trees, and taller foliage areas. I brought my 30# Staffordshire Bull Terrier here and he had a blast. Be aware that you MUST be cognizant of your own dogs behavior. If they are overwhelmed, simply take your dog out. Don't forget to clean up after your pooch and don't bring your furry loved one if they are sick, injured, or in heat. Before coming to any dog park, be sure to keep up with canine vaccinations and preventative meds. The risk is always there for spreading illness.

The staff cares about the right placement for their animals. They have a meet and greet where you can interact with the dog you are interested in. if that dog isn't a fit, they bring out other dogs that may work with you. The Keaau staff is professional and compassionate. I have adopted my dogs from here and will return when I have space for another.

We adopted 3 dogs from the Hawaii Island Humane Society. All 3 adoptions were positive experiences. They have the “Foster To Adopt” program which lets the dog be in your home up to 3 weeks before you make the decision to adopt. The staff is kind, caring and knowledgeable. Five Stars.

The best! I have experienced working with the shelter multiple ways and they have been amazing! Adopting a pet from them was positive and they treated me with all of the kindness possible! They made an off island adoption non stressful and seem to always have the best interest of the animal in mind (even checking in once my new pup got off the flight). I highly recommend adopting from them.

I adopted my new dog Leia from this shelter 5/4/21. Leia was my 3rd shelter dog adoption, but first one from this shelter. The process was smooth and easy. I loved how you get to foster your potential new pet for up to 3 weeks before making the adoption official! I never felt pressured and didn’t have to pay for anything up front. They really emphasized the importance of making sure the pet is a good fit!

Super organized and awesome staff that make an extra effort to match you with the right animal. All of our animals have been adopted from Hihs and we love them so much!! Consider adopting your next fur baby here!!

We’ve adopted three of our dogs/cat from HIHS and every time was a pleasant experience. When we were looking for dog #5, I reached out to HIHS for guidance on finding the right dog that would fit our ohana needs. They were extremely helpful and accommodating and we scheduled a few meet and greets. We didn’t find our match at HIHS but greatly appreciate their willingness and support. We will always be lifelong supporters of HIHS and their mission. Mahalo nui loa Snow’s Ohana.

Great place , gotta love that they support animals that wouldn't get the help otherwise. awesome foster care program to rehabilitate pets and get them ready for their forever homes. My heart goes out to all the pet guardians!

100 % failure on every level. Staff has no passion for what they are supposed to do, and have obviously lost any compassion they may once have had. I tried calling to get answer about an animal that had been abandoned by my home. Left messages, but not even a curtesy call was returned. Finally took the animal there, and found out they “don’t do intakes “. They did inform me to call the Hawaiian Rainbow Rangers. I did, and was informed they were on their way to pick up another animal. I waited, and finally had to take the animal back home as the heat was getting to her. Before I left, I was going to inform the staff, and was immediately told to get back in my vehicle. I left not even believing what had just happened. I will continue to find out how the humane society is even allowed to operate this way. I have taken the abandoned animal to Rainbow Society and they are most awesome.
