So fun taking a dog on a field trip for a day. So sad to part ways with our new friend at the end of the day.

Aloha to the staff, you’re amazing! We lost our beloved dog over a year ago and have missed her a lot. We’re unable at this time to get another dog and/or cat but we would like to support our local shelter here in Kona with a monthly donation, please advise the best way to do this.

Great place to get a family addition ☺️. The staff is awesome and super caring. Very helpful. We adopted two kittens, and love to visit the awesome dog park on occasion!

We were visiting from the mainland and wanted to take a dog from the shelter on a field trip. If you can, do it. Its rewarding to be able to take a pup out on an adventure help them socialize and hopefully get noticed for an adoption. Also if your missing your doggo while on vacation it helps satisfy that until you can get back to your pup. We took our Melody. She was mellow and peaceful. Never once barked and was a lover, hopefully she gets adopted soon. The facility was amazing. They are doing great things on the big island!

Amazingly beautiful facility, with smart, kind and compassionate staff dedicated to saving and improving animals’ lives. Great gift shop too, whose profits all go to help the dogs, cats and small creatures in their care.

Beautiful new modern facility with large play areas and open and Airy public areas. The staff seems much more relaxed and professional. We are in the process of adopting a lovely female dog and a very happy with the experience we had.

We adopted three dogs from the humane society when it was located down by the police station. One dog lived almost 16 years and we had a wonderful time with her. Our next dog is still going at 15.5 years. She cannot see or hear well but she still enjoys walks and cuddles. Our puppy, who is now almost three loves to be petted and boy can she run. We have an acre of land and a fenced area outside for the dogs when we are not home. We tried that online form in March and again in April . The chief operating officer made unfounded assumptions stating that we could not adopt because we don’t provide human contact . When I tried to discuss this with her she was rude and would not let me finish my sentence without Interrupting me. We got a six month old puppy from Kares. Debbie does so much to help dogs find forever homes. Kares goes above and beyond caring for animals . It works best when people get to meet a dog rather than having someone never meet a prospective owner and then making incorrect assumptions .

I’m so glad we adopted our dog from the Hawaii Island Humane Society. The whole process was extremely smooth and thoughtful. We took our pup on a field trip (the coolest program EVER) which turned into a sleepover which turned into an adoption. Best choice I’ve ever made. I’ve worked with animals my entire career, so believe me when I say their approach to working with/training animals and placing them is awesome. Not to mention the dope dog park they have to give back to the community. Mahalo to Lauren for helping us along in the process!

I take my lil min pin to the dog park there. It's big, nice, cool, lots of room. They have one side for the bigger dogs and one for the smaller ones like my lil "CHEECH" that's what we call her. She loves it there. The grass is nice and green. ????????????♥️

Knowing people who have adopted from the HIHS and people who have volunteered is good enough for me.

Were unwilling to save a stranded turtle and the number they gave us led down a string of numbers that concluded in not being available to on the weekend.
