Dr Nick is a REAL VET, hands on and I feel like I've found the best veterinarian for my Service Dog

100% amazing experience and staff. Pretty sure my Sunny wouldnt be here had they not been so quick and decisive with the diagnosis and surgery. I couldn't be more grateful and I would recommend making this place a home! Thank you to all the staff!

Got me in right away, cat losing weight very friendly and professional

My cat had a bad cough. Vet took two X-rays and said bronchial inflammation, with possible pneumonia, heart or lung worms, which of course made me agree to spend an additional $180 for outside lab consult. Total bill $393. They asked me to bring my cat back for blood draw. My appointment was for 10:30. I sat in waiting room for hour and half. Another client walked in and was taken back before me. When another walked in I asked staff girl if they had forgotten me. I told her I was there already hour and half. She checked in back and told me she didn’t know how much longer as “they were playing checkup.” I could come back another time. Staff clearly has never been trained to inform clients who have been waiting 90 minutes past appointment time that if there is an unexpected delay, tell client to leave pet and they will call when pet can be picked up. And APOLOGIZE! I felt they did not respect clients time, and I left. I took my cat to another vet. Blood draw done next morning. No wait. Conclusion: NORMAL. Mild bronchial inflammation. Period. No evidence of heart or lung worms. Or pneumonia. At Southern Wind I was asked to pay an additional $180 for UNNECESSARY test because vet thought X-ray looked inconclusive. And yet other vet saw nothing inconclusive and blood test revealed nothing more than inflammation. Beware: you will have a long wait and you will pay a higher price with this vet. And diagnose may be wrong altogether. Get another opinion.

Absolutely recommend this fantastic new-to-town vets office! The staff are so incredibly attentive and welcoming and the Veterinarian is the best I’ve found in the area! And with the perk of couches in every exam room and a beach theme throughout, you’ll be pampered during your visit and feel like you’re at the beach! Highly recommend!!

Dr Nick is the BEST vet. Never had a more compassionate vet. Can’t say enough good things about this office!! They are so accommodating and sweet to our baby. We are SO happy to have found them. We have had issues with vets in the past mostly due to her breed (pit bull) but we couldn’t have felt more comfortable at this office. If I could give more stars I would. We have found our new lifetime vet =)

Southern Wind is a fantastic Veterinary hospital! The entire staff is focused on making the visit a positive experience for your pet, which naturally makes it great for the owner(s) as well. We took our little rescue dog, who is both protective & fearful and the staff was so good to her! Special shout out to Cat, Shauna and Dr Nic for their above and beyond care. Highly recommend, we will not take our baby anywhere else!

We have been patients of Dr. Nick for many years and I can’t say enough amazing things about him, his staff and the great people who work with them. Dr. Nick has handled emergencies as well as the daily well being of my pups and he has always always been very knowledgeable, professional and extremely reliable. One of my favorite things is he always adds a tiny dash of humor when it’s appropriate and that can be a much welcomed and needed stress relief. I am eternally thankful to this wonderful vet for all he has done for my babies now and in the past 20 years. Our family love you guys so much!!!! I trust no one else with my babies. Even when our 17 year old was sick with cushings and diabetes Dr. Nick gave me honest advice and saved Codi more than once. He truly cares about your pets the same way you do and he will do everything in his power to make them better. And he is HONEST which I cannot say enough how much I appreciate. I absolutely love coming to this office. The staff is so kind, and they really work hard to create a comfortable and calming environment for the patients. This is also one of the few places that has individual waiting rooms which is perfect for my very anxious pup. The vet himself and the whole staff was excellent in working with my dog; I'm grateful to have a practice that I can continue to bring my good boy to. A+

This vet saved my dog's life after he got into some rat poison and has handled multiple emergencies for my dog and other family pets! Dr. Nick Avis is one of the best vets I have ever dealt with and I trust him more than any vet I have ever dealt with. My daughter is a veterinarian and worked with him before he opened this practice and has the absolute highest regard for him and his tech Kat. You won't find a better vet or a more caring vet anywhere. He spends the time with each and every pet he sees. Love Dr. Nick!!!!

Love Dr Nik and staff. They really do care about your furbabies. Our cat was very ill with cancer and Dr Nik took time to go over all her tests from the specialists with us and explained all options. After a few months, she crossed the rainbow bridge. We will never forget the time he spent going over her records. We still have two dogs that always enjoy going to Southern Wind

This veterinary practice is unlike other I've ever taken my pets to. Dr. Nick and his team welcome me like family, every single time, and are always so excited to see my babies. When it's a standard check up, they bring fun and light-hearted cheer that relaxes everyone. When it's an emergency that requires focus and serious discussion, that's exactly what they provide. I always leave knowing precisely what my next steps should be for my pets because the communication is stellar and I am always invited to be present and involved with all exams and procedures. While this may be their business, it is clearly also their calling. Beyond their love for my animals, Dr. Nick and his team clearly love ALL animals and they demonstrate this with a environmentally friendly practice, including beautiful reusable tote bags. The welcoming environment, focused care, and conservation ethic means that this will always be our veterinary hospital of choice, and we recommend it to every animal lover we talk to!

Very unprofessional staff. Poorly run vet office. Not the quality you’re looking for when you have a sick pet.

Kat and Dr. Nick are the best! They talked to my dog, shared snacks with him, and brought him a cozy blanket to lay on for his checkup. Never has my dog been so at ease and happy while at the vet! It was not an anxious environment or experience like many other vets I have been to. Both my dog and myself had a pleasant visit. I appreciate Kat and Dr. Nick loving Jester and truly caring about him - it was evident! They even cut my dog's toe nails without him even noticing, something I stressed over and struggled with being able to do for years; truly dog whisperers! I can't thank them enough for giving my dog a comfortable experience and for the care and love they shared.

Poorly run vet clinic. One person on staff running anesthesia and answering the phones at the same time on some days. Not what you want when your pet is under anesthesia. Very unprofessional staff/manager and poorly trained. Would not recommend this hospital to anyone.

Excellent with my nervous dog they took time to love on him. We just moved to this area ot was important to us to be in the room with our dog and for him to be calm and unafraid. I would recommend this vet and staff they truly cared.
