This rescue does everything right. They truly care so much about the dogs and put a lot of effort into finding the right homes for them. Thank you to all the incredible volunteers who give their time and energy to Born Free!

This is a great organization. They knew what dog I was going to love before I did. The adoption was quick and smooth. Best decision I made this year was to visit Born Free.

If you have room in your heart and home for a dog, I highly recommend you visit Born Free (a no-kill dog shelter). They have the MOST wonderful dogs that are so sweet and loving, and beautiful. They have dogs of all breeds, ages and sizes (though most are medium to large-sized dogs). I guarantee if you visit here, you will come away with a new 4-legged best buddy (or maybe 2)! You can adopt, foster, or volunteer here - take your pick! I started volunteering here in April 2019 after seeing them on Instagram. I have NEVER in my life met a more fantastic group of people than the volunteers here. They work for free and their devotion to these dogs is like nothing I have ever seen. They all tirelessly advocate for these dogs, care for them, and LOVE it when they get adopted. I started out by fostering a very scared small shy dog; she was overwhelmed at being surrendered by her previous owner. She came into my home and very quickly stole my heart and I ended up adopting her (I'm a huge foster fail). There is a fee for adopting the dogs, but it's a great deal because all dogs are neutered/spayed, up to date on their shots, and come with a clean bill of health and vet records. The caretaker of Born Free does a wonderful job. The dog pens are always fresh and clean with fresh water and each dog has a little kiddie pool. While nothing compares to a forever home for a dog, this is a great place for dogs where they are well cared for and loved (but, still, a home is better!). Volunteers here are ALWAYS needed and welcomed. Think about it. It took me way too long to volunteer at an animal shelter, even though I have been an animal-lover since I was a child. I always thought it would make me feel bad to see homeless dogs (lame reason not to help them, I know!). But, the opposite was true. I come away every week feeling that for a few minutes I made a dog happy by just walking or brushing them. Volunteers are desperately needed! p.s.: The photo I posted is of my little doggie when she got her Bark Ranger tag from Biscayne National Park. She went from being a shelter dog to travelling around and visiting various national parks with me. At Biscayne NP, dogs are very welcomed and you take a little quiz and they give your dog this cute tag (free). It was fun and my dog loves visiting the parks.

This is KIM, Martys better half. I just wanted to compliment this Born Free Pet Shelter for their professionalism. I have been looking for a 2nd, small, right size -mixed terrier type dog for my small home for about a month or so. Its disheartening when you kinda fall in love with a dog on Pet Finders, and try to pursue it, and get no call/email back, or another site has asked me to call back 5 times over 6 days because she hasn't had time...... But Born Free was my '3rd' petfinder picture/dog I pursued and they kindly responded to me. So I will not give on on Pet finders just yet. Sorry to say I missed out on a real cutey they had - by a day! Thank you to Born Free Pet Shelter and their fosters for the work they do.

This shelter is kind and loving if you can describe a shelter that way. The animals are all well cared for and nurtured. We have had four dogs from Alicia.

What a phenomenal group of people! We’ve been tremendously blessed by this rescue. They gave us our senior rescue named Amanda (14). It was so evident that she was loved by every member of that staff. Their sole mission was to find this sweet baby a loving home. They even drove halfway to meet me to ease the burden (6 hour drive from Jax to Miami). I cannot sing their praises enough ????

This is a no kill shelter, that cares and provides hundreds of dogs a temporary home, until they find their forever home. I’ve been volunteering for over almost two years now, and it’s extremely rewarding.

This is a wonderful shelter with loving and attentive volunteers that do all that they can for the several dogs that they care for. I adopted my 7 year old hound mix from Born Free 9 months ago and have been going back regularly as a volunteer. Thank you for taking care of my boy until he found his forever home <3
