UPDATE**** In response to Capital Vets’ reply to my post: Intradermal sutures would not make an incision invisible - certainly not against the backdrop of a shaved abdomen, and no amount of grief would make me mistake …

By far the best veterinarian I have ever been to. They saved my babies life when everyone else told me it was terminal. In fact I take all of my animals to them. If they saw people I would go to them as well for Doctors. Yes, the wait may …

Long wait but curbside was ok. Saved out baby. Other hospital said condition was terminal, days later totally cured by capital veterinary specialists.

The staff have amazing attitudes, both times we have unfortunately had to come to this pet er. They knew exactly what was wrong w my pup when giving symptoms. They didn’t suggest any unnecessary testing, I paid the office fee & that’s it. The vet was very knowledgeable as well as their nurses. We are beyond satisfied. They saved our shihzu’s life the first time we went!!! We will always suggest, even tho we stay in orange park! THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH!

My 5 month old puppy had to come in for a suspected swallowed rawhide. She threw up in the car on the way over, and they brought her into their office immediately. The wait wasn’t very long, especially considering what I had prepared myself …

I have mixed reviews. Some of the staff was rude while others were super nice. We did go on a Sunday evening and our sons dog had been attacked by another dog. They did fix her up and it took a while but was expected. They didn't let anyone in the building and it was a little pricey, but once again expected.

The service received from Capital Vets is far from “exceptional service” like their slogan says. They were over 20 minutes late for my appointment, and I only was seen after calling in again to remind them I was still waiting. I wanted to book underwater treadmill therapy for my dog, but was told I need a recommendation from a doctor, which would cost $140. The doctor we saw did NOT recommend water therapy but then the tech who does the therapy came in and tried to sell me a package. I spoke with multiple staff that I should not have to pay the $140 since a recommendation was not actually needed. But I was told it was the law so either a law was broken here or I was lied to. The woman assured me that the tech would have only spoken to me if the doctor recommended it, but the paper I have says otherwise. She was extremely difficult to talk with and I finally asked if she even understood my concerns, to which she just walked away to get the doctor. After the first failed attempt, I emailed my concern on December 13, 2021, got a missed call on the 16th from Capital, I then returned their call on the 17th and almost a month later, still have not spoken with anyone. No email or no call back. The entire experience was terrible and I would not recommend to anyone.

We took our (technically geriatric but very healthy up until this) yorkie here on Dec. 23. He had stopped urinating, wasn't eating much or drinking like normal and was not energetic like usual. 24 hours after these things were noticed, we had him at his vet. They determined that his bloodwork was not good (elevated liver enzymes, BUN levels and a few other things). The vet thought that he could have a liver injury but was unable to verify that with an ultrasound, so he referred us to someone who was more "capable" of diagnosing whatever was wrong. Our dog was active, lively, had a huge personality and was otherwise healthy as far as we and his vet knew up until this point. Our dog died within 48 hours of this and it is completely Capital Vet to blame. I would NOT take any animal to this facility! First coast veterinary is where I wish we had gone initially but we took the recommendation of our local vet instead. First Coast helped us in having our baby cremated and they are wonderful. Dr. Shih and some of the incompetent nurses at this facility(those who gave us DIFFERENT INFO EVERY PHONE CALL and the WRONG DOSING INFO, TWICE) should be disallowed from performing services on any living creature. We followed the second set of dosing instructions for our dog...forced the 8 medicines into his little mouth one at a time, as instructed and he then had violent seizures all night on my sisters chest. He suffered because this doctor did not address ALL of his medical issues and instead treated one condition, charged us over $2000, and did not tell us that our dog had a grim prognosis. We had decided as a family that if our dog was going to suffer from whatever was going on with him, we would just have him put to sleep so that he would not suffer. Dr. Shih never told us that seizures could occur from any of these meds or from him being dehydrated and unable to urinate, or we wouldn't have forced him to take them. Not only did he die, they never apologized when I spoke with a supervising tech and took no responsibility aside from agreeing that we should have been discharged with a copy of dosing instructions. No apology for getting different info from every person we had talked to. We were told that the meds could not have caused seizures. Our dog was not having seizures like this prior to this. First Coast Vet is where we should have went in the first place. They and our regular vet, as well as our groomer, sent a sympathy card after his passing however the place THAT KILLED HIM did nothing. This place should be ashamed of themselves. Please do not take your baby here if you want them to live. All they care about is the money! They will not be honest with you about your pets condition and they will charge you for unnecessary treatment. We're out $2300 between this place and our vet and have no dog anymore to show for it. Things do happen and I do know that sometimes there is nothing anyone can do to help, but that wasn't the case with our dog. Even if it were, we should have been TOLD THAT so we could elect to put him down without him SUFFERING and dying TRAUMATICALLY the way he did...on CHRISTMAS!

Paid over $ 6,000 and then some for my companions knee surgery... multiple vets in Volusia Co. said he had hip dysplasia...Regardless... 6 week post op appt. Receptionist seemed rude-ish. On hold for over 10 minutes.. and her reply was” yeah, you and everybody else”. ( As an RN actively in the health care profession, I would have been fired for that kind of statement) Probably understaffed and over stressed as all healthcare providers are.. But During COVID restrictions, they were top notch, as far as placing you in a room. However, not being allowed to be present during the actual exam was the same as all the other vets, so you really had no idea of what was actually being done. I still have no idea how my companion suffered bilateral fibular fractures... I may seek legal representation for Tigger.

This was one of the most efficient and well run clinics I have ever seen. They answered the phone at 8pm and got me an appointment very quickly. I had called a university vet clinic first only to be told that there was a wait time of over 4 months. I believe Dr Nebel saved my dog Delbert. He won't be with me forever but her diagnosis and treatment have given us more time together. I thank her from the bottom of my heart ❤. The progress was not what I wanted, but it was delivered in a direct and caring way. I highly recommend the clinic and Dr Nebel.

The doctors and staff have been great to work with. Only down side is they seem to always run late for late afternoon appts. Probably to be expected. I'd rather they take the time with their patients, but just expect a 30+ min wait in late afternoon.

Very compassionate when my dog died. He died at home and Capital handled the cremation for us, despite not being our vet. Very grateful for them.

We visited this hospital on Friday, were promised lab results next day (Sat). Still have not received results today, (Tues). Our dog passed away while we were waiting. They charged us $900+ for service. DO NOT USE THIS VET! THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY AND DON’T CARE FOR YOUR PET!

If this had not been an emergency after hours/holiday situation, I would not have taken my dog here for treatment. I was not impressed with the care, nor was my vet at her follow-up exam. In addition, my card was charged almost $200 over the amount quoted with no prior notice or approval of this significant change from the quoted amount. I was told the final amount could be "slightly higher." $200 is not slightly higher. I do not recommend.

I don't suggest bringing your pet here. I brought my cat in with pancreatitis and they demanded I pay $2,000 upfront to cover her for 3 days.. even if she didn't need to stay the full 3 days (she ended up recovering in 24 hours). I was then told they would work a "deal" if I just paid $700 (which was the total for all of the tests they ran.. a simple blood test should've been the first step). The next day they call and say she's not doing well and that she needs to stay overnight again BUT I would have to pay another ($1,200) deposit or pick her up.. meanwhile she was eating and didn't have a fever. They are money hungry and wanted to keep her for that reason alone. Also, the technicians are inconsiderate and lack professionalism.

My 3 year old, 7-lb Pomeranian started experiencing major gastric issues late on a Sunday night. Once I realized how serious the situation was getting, I rushed to a different ER in town since they had seen her in the past. When I arrived at the other ER, the wait time was an hour and a half. I called Capital and they said they could get her in right away. I drove to Capital where the professional staff began walking us through the process of diagnosing. The technician was professional, kind and empathetic, assuring they would do what they could to make her feel better. By 4am, we had a diagnosis of HGE - a potentially deadly gastric syndrome that requires aggressive treatment. The doctor walked me through the process and provided a quote quickly. I opted to leave her for 24 hour treatment and IV. Over the course of the 24 hours, I spoke with the clinic several times getting updates on my little girl. I felt up to date throughout the event and knew what was going on. Thanks to the staff at Capital, my littlest Pom is back at home healing with her big sister looking after her. I’m grateful for the care and true empathy these professionals provide.

When I accidentally ran over my 5lb chorkie and crushed her pelvis, they were the only ones who would see her that day. They did surgery the next morning and I took her home the next day. She is healing beautiful and is making an excellent recovery. It was a miracle that my Chrysler Pacifica Van did not kill her and a miracle I found this Hospital to help my little Tink. Forever greatful for the care and empathy the staff and Dr. showed.

Easy to get to with plenty of parking. It was a little hike for me coming from Palm Coast, but well worth it. The techs were very helpful and always had a smile. Dr. Walker is extremely knowledgeable and easy to speak with. I was very pleased with the establishment and overjoyed with the results the Dr. reviewed with me. Thanks to all of you.

There are truly no words that are substantial enough to thank the team at Capital Veterinary Specialists for the support that they recently provided for our family. While vacationing in Georgia we lost our sweet German Shepherd, Deegan. Being from Canada and away from our home we were in an unfamiliar territory and at a loss with where to bring our boy after he passed away. Their team was extremely compassionate and took care of our Deegan like he was one of their own though it was the first time we met. The level of support, even if it was minimal to them, meant the world to our family. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much! The James Family

The best surgeons around for your pets! My little dog sprocket, which is only 5 lb had flux patella surgery here, everything went perfect! And now she's come down with some neck issues so the first place I took her to get a CT was capital! All of the employees are very helpful and they treat your dog with respect, I feel safe leaving sprocket there for tests, I wouldn't feel safe leaving her anywhere else. These employees care and that's what makes all the difference!

They are very good at what they do but you have to wait outside a long time to find out the treatment

We have been using CVSJax for many years - 5-6. They have never failed us. From being there in the middle of the night for a quick rush to the ER with a sick pup to another quick rush with bloat which led to a successful surgery to ongoing treatment for cancer to having the entire family (plus 2 other dogs!) present at euthanasia of our matriarch pack leader. The trust we have in their services is unwavering. I expect the Capital Vets to continue to be a part of our lives for as long as we have furry members of our family.

Went here twice, I see that they reply to reviews so I’ll let them know now this isn’t even my real name. First time was great kinda I called to check on my cat first time I went, the people on the phone can be very rude and don’t seem to care second time I went the doctor was rude to me over the phone and keep asking me open ended questions and I was confused on what she wanted me to say when I already explained the situation. Some of the techs really care some don’t and it’s just the truth I’ve watched the behavior in person and it can get ugly, for my case however they only care if you have money and will charge you for all you have, they expect people to have 5k laying around to save their pets life (I can guarantee half of America doesn’t) they charge you almost double for things as simple as a IV bag it’s gross. They don’t give you any info on where else you can go get treatment and act like they have no idea so it makes it seem like they are the only ones that can help your pet in a time of crisis and not to mention how long you can wait just to pick up your animal you could even get there early and you’d still be waiting an 1 hour+ after pick up time. What’s worse is I was told by my vet office this was an amazing place! But it’s not they lie, deceive and if you don’t have the money they won’t work with you in anyway to save your pets life with all that I won’t be going back. went to the human society they have urgent care hours and will work with you and give if not better treatment because I know one thing is a doctor isn’t going to talk to me like I’m stupid and that’s on period love

A tech or nurse here kept confusing my dog with another dog claiming they had a very similar name and even mixed up their medications/dosages. She was incredibly condescending and rude so we decided to take treatment home as opposed to leaving him with staff who cant even keet track of their patients. I was glad in the end we got to speak to someone much more professional who seemed aware of the situation but at that point I'd lost trust so wanted to bring my pup home instead. Be warned and pay very close attention to who is taking care of your pup!

The receptionists has poor customer service skills. This is my third encounter with receptionists (build 3003) and they always do unhappy and rude. On the other hand, nurses and assistants are great. If they can change all those receptionists the place will be great. !!!
