We took our Milo (cat) here this morning after reading some of the positive reviews. Very nice staff. Dr. Andrea Brodeur was very nice and explained to me what to do for our Milo who has a UTI. She also took time to answer any questions …

Our young British Shorthair cat suddenly went into heart failure over the New Year weekend. The staff at Central were incredibly kind & considerate in caring for our kitty. A special thanks to Dr. Morgulis, Stephanie, & the ER & cardiac staff for taking such great care of Zephy in such an emotionally exhausting time. The clinic was very busy, but the staff was warm, friendly, & professional over the 5 days Zephy was in their care. We would definitely recommend them, but folks need to remember to be kind & patient. We saw plenty of people being nasty to the staff, which was unnecessary. We truly feel like the staff did their very best, & we were very happy with the treatment & reception we received. Thank you Central!

Never coming here waste of time. They would really have you wait for HOURS cause your pet isn’t an “emergency” I’m telling them there’s something wrong with my cat but since it’s not life threatening I had to wait.

During a very difficult time, the staff here was absolutely understanding, knowledgeable, helpful and overall wonderful. I know most people don't go to an emergency vet for anything good, but the Doctors and staff make it just a little bit easier. We thank the entire Team of Doctors,Techs and front desk. -Sampsons Family

Surgery Review: I went here for a 2nd opinion & received excellent care. Dr Cara Blake did a delicate surgery on my Toy Poodle to remove a thyroid tumor. This was a long surgery with many risks but Dr. Blake successful removed the tumor. Her surgical support team were so kind & went above & beyond for my dog and me. Dr Blake called to check on my Lily on her day off over Labor Day weekend. I’m deeply grateful to everyone at Central Hospital for Vet. Medicine

I am consistently grateful for the care that you provide for my sick and injured animals. I have been in quite a few times before, and I keep coming back because of the kindness and knowledge your staff provides. …

Luke in the exotic vet department is a liar and a crook. He messes up scheduling and then blames the client and keeps your deposit. The health of your pet is a distant concern, they just want your money.

We unfortunately had to take our baby boy (min-pin) there lastnight after being told by 3 other hospitals that they were unable to accommodate us. We traveled 40 minutes there and were so not looking forward to the 4 plus hour wait you usually experience at urgent care facilities, well we were pleasantly surprised at how quick our boy was attended to and how quick we recieved the call that he was all set and ready for discharge, all in all I think it was less than a half an hour. The staff were so courteous and professional, the Doctor was extremely helpful. We made it home and in bed by 11pm. We ended up having to take our boy back this morning (the following afternoon) due to the same issue, and because he was seen within 24 hours the initial charge for the visit was waved as a courtesy, that was also such a pleasant surprise, not only that but I verbalized that my husband and I are fine with him having imaging done if it will prevent us from having to come back again, instead of them jumping on that and doing it just to charge, the doctor gave her personal opinion and stated that she didn't think it was necessary and for us to just monitor him and if he starts to show any signs or symptoms then we will proceed with testing. We were beyond grateful and satisfied with our visit and appreciative of the knowledge, professionalism and friendly staff. Thank you all for the wonderful experience

Staff was very nice, took my dog in for an ear infection, he just got antibiotics and was sent home. All was well until 1 week later, he has another ear infection. Took him to a different vet, they said he has an infection in BOTH ears, and they were shocked that this place only treated the left ear. The new vet put him on steroids, antibiotics, and informed me that if he keeps scratching he will get a hematoma, so he will need a cone. They (new vet) also did a culture test to see exactly what the problem is. Not sure why this hospital gave him ONLY antibiotics and pain meds, and sent him home. We were not told ANY of the things the new vet told us. When we called and told them the problem was only getting worse, they said there was nothing they could do unless we take him back in and pay the emergency fee again. Its a good thing I decided to take him to a different vet, or else this problem would have happened AGAIN. which is the reason I won’t be coming back here.

We brought our pup in last night after having some trouble after his neuter. We were so grateful for the care they provided, before during and after we were there. We called about a half hour ahead of deciding to come in and they were happy to answer our questions and help us decide if it was an emergency or not, some places tell you to just come in and won’t help you any other way. We ended up coming in and luckily we’re the only ones there it seemed like, so the visit was quick and we were on our way out in a half hour or so. We still had issues at home and called a few hours later and were able to get easy follow up instructions to help. Everyone was understanding and kind, thank you!

I've taken a few of my fur babies there. My little ones happen to rabbits so I mostly speak with the exotic department. Luke is the one I speak to the most and what a delight he is! Always gets back to me in a timely manner, always so polite and amazing custumer service! He makes the process so easy and clear. 10 put of 10 service!

We just took our 2 year old ferret, ivy, there on November 24th at 10:30pm. She went in for what we suspected was a blockage. Hacking the whole way there. She went in and we waited 2 hours. I called to check on her. Still hadn't been seen. Okay waited another 2 hours and still hadn't been seen. Was told she wouldn't be seen for another 3 to 4 hours. We went home and waited for them to call us thinking she was in good hands. We didn't get a phone call till 7 am. Was told they were wanting to either give us ulcer meds or xray. I said xray there's something wrong with her. They did the x-rays. Called me back at 11am saying she had an abnormality in her stomach and she would need to be transported to a different hospital since their exotic department wasn't open on Thanksgiving for a 24 hour watch. I went straight there and took our girl to Bolton animal hospital. In 10 minutes of being there the veterinarian said she needed surgery within the hour. She had a tumor in her stomach. Stayed two days at the second hospital and my girl would've died if she waited the 24 hours like the other hospital was wanted. They now wrote on her paper work that they told me MULTIPLE times that they didn't have a vet for her. They did not. They said they had a vet but wasn't exotic. I even asked if the vet was comfortable with ferrets and they said yes. They also said at the time we brought her in that she needed to go to a different hospital but that I refused to bring her somewhere else. I live an hour away and I drove all the way there the second they told me to bring her to a second hospital. Why would I make my girl wait 10 hours if they told me to transport her to begin with and then drive an hour back to transport her on a drop of a dime. That doesn't even make sense. I wouldn't make her suffer for no reason if you weren't able to help her. I will not be ever going back or recommending. Also calling Monday to make a formal complaint. They are the baystate hospital of animal hospitals and I can't image what animals have suffered or waited longer than they should've for care.

This was my and my guinea pig's first vet experience. Unfortunately, my baby was experiencing a horrible URI and did not make it. They recommend to euthanize him after telling me he was in respiratory distress and it didn't look like he was going to make it. I was by myself and on the phone with my mother, as she was paying for his visit. Originally to see him, it would've been $160. After the news, as I'm having a full fledged breakdown in front of the doctor, they begin talking new prices. What a time to discuss how much it'll cost to kill him, before I can even process what's going on. Now its $225 to euthanize him, as the doctor is trying to comfort me (how do you tell me the price to kill him while consoling me at the same time). Seriously. I've only been there for 10min; seemingly they knew what was going on just by looking at him. Also, informs me that to perform CPR god forbid something went wrong, $500 additional to resuscitate him, I'm still crying at this point. Proceeds to tell me that because I grieving so hard, they'll leave it at $160. Well, thanks. I step outside to get emotional support from my friend and they call and ask if I'd like to hold him, I asked if he's still alive, but the deed was done. They brought him out, and continued to discuss prices and bill my friend in front of me, while I'm holding my lifeless baby, still breaking down. All in all, there's a time to discuss pricing, I understand they have other patients to see, but goodness, give someone a minute before discussing prices about their dying pet after you just told them they wouldn't make it. I guess they know what they're doing, and their services aren't bad. It's just news delivery they need to work on. There's a way to tell someone that the humane choice is to put their loved one down without throwing numbers in their face while processing what they're being told.

Once I realized my dog was at the end of her life and needed to be put down, no vets around me were open for appointments, including her normal vet. After stressing and seeing my dog in pain, I called Central. They were nothing but kind and sympathetic and made the process as easy for me as they could. I thought the cost would be astronomical but it was about what I would have paid elsewhere. I was able to bring my dog in the same day and end her suffering. My heart is broken but I'm happy for the experience I had.

Dr. Costello, Kendall, and the rest of staff are amazing!!! They were able to diagnose her quickly, find a solution and find a different issue that was previously missed from another practice. My little Hunny is feeling so much better already. Bottom line, if you want top notch care for your pet bring them here.

Three bad experiences- 1) my digs got into a fight- first i brought my little dog separately. Told them they are aggressive with eachother. They quoted me a price that was a mortgage. I said i would follow up with my home vet. I walked out and got home to find a two inch hole on the inner thigh of my dog they never told me about. Had i seen it i would of stayed and allowed them to do the surgery. 2) brought my German Shepard in to get the scratches on her checked out. They claimed she nipped at them. She has never ever ever been aggressive to people and wants to jump and play. They muzzled my dog. They wanted me to quarentine my dog for 14 days and sign a paper saying she was under quarantine due to possible rabies. Long story short- my dog did not have rabies and was up to date on vaccines. I brought my chicken there. Waited two hours in the car. Called and asked if she had been seen. She had not been. I was told to call back in a hour. I went home and the vet called two hours later basically told me there was no coming back from the issues the chicken had. I asked if they could put her down and how much. I was quoted $160 for visit and oxygen and 308 to put her down. I opted not to they wanted me to sign a AMA paper that stated nothing to do with my situation. I got there and i was charge 230 for visit and oxygen!! I said i couldn’t pay it- they told me”can you call someone for it? We need you to apply for these two credit cards and if you get denied show the front desk. They would not release our bird for my kids to say goodbye until i paid. They are unprofessional, unethical, and do not care about the families of these pets.

I had an emergency with my cat that unfortunately ended with me having to say goodbye. The staff at this animal hospital were absolutely wonderful from start to finish. I would recommend them to anyone.

I had to put a pet down and they were incredibly sympathetic and so understanding. They even sent me a sympathy card and a mold with my pet’s paws on it. They were so kind and truly helped me heal through my difficult time.

My 7.5 year old dog started having problems with her eye very suddenly last spring. Within a couple of weeks the vet had diagnosed her with glaucoma, and in addition to it being obvious that she was in pain, we saw very quickly that her eye was starting to show the blue-gray haze that we knew typically leads to blindness. Dr. Dorbrandt and his team in the ophthalmology department were able to get us in quickly, and I feel very lucky that they were because I believe that he saved my dog's vision and has achieved the best possible outcome at this point, effectively "reversing" the symptoms of glaucoma after a just few months (even though she still technically has "controlled glaucoma" and we'll always have to manage it). He and his team are very compassionate and do an excellent job of explaining things in a way that a worried pet owner can understand in the moment. Dr. Dorbrandt made himself available to answer questions directly and ensure that I understood everything well, including the potential causes, outcomes, and treatment protocols. He even explained the costs up front which many veterinarians don't even do. Aside from the ophthalmology department which is where I've had the most contact, everyone that I've interacted with has been very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this hospital if your pet has a health concern.

I cannot say enough good things about Central. I have brought my dogs there over the years for emergencies and non-emergent matters. 6 years ago, I brought my barely breathing puppy to them. They told me he needed an expensive surgery to save his life but there was only a 50% chance of survival. Recently, I brought my other dog in as a trauma after being bit by another dog and suffering from wounds on her head and neck. Today, I have two happy, healthy dogs with me all because of Central. I have brought them over the years for non-emergent matters as well and the staff was always willing to see them and were always honest about wait times, options, costs, etc. The staff was extremely patient and kind when both of my dogs were there for days and I would call (many, many times a day) to check on them. They never seemed annoyed, they were always willing to answer my questions and I never felt like I was being rushed off the phone. They also called exactly when they said they would, sometimes even earlier with updates on my dogs - which was extremely important to me in a situation where I didn’t know if my dog was going to make it or not. I highly recommend Central - I have never had a bad experience with them and I have been there many times over the years.

After waiting a few weeks to get an appointment for my GSD’s persistent and severe gastrointestinal issues, I am so glad I waited to get into Central. They are so smart about the issues my girl is having. I walked out of the office feeling confident I had found the partner in my girl’s care that I was desperately looking for. Thank you Central for caring about my pup as much as I do.

What a great experience!! Terrible circumstance but an amazing, professional and caring Team! My 6 year old cat Friday morning must have fumbled off his perch in our sunroom and fallen face first into the wood beam of the wall, he broke his jaw on both sides where his canine's are, broke off one canine completely and the other was pointing outwards. We must have called 7 or 8 vet's and hospital's for help with no luck until we were recommended to Central. They took him in immediately without any wait and gave him pain medication, after a 24hr stay and surgery he is home recovering. I can't say enough great things about this experience, if anything were to ever happen to our fur family in the future they will be our go to in an emergency situation! One of the worst things is the not knowing, there was none of that. They called and gave updates before, during and after the operation. My cat was cared for and so were we. Thank you so very much, you are all hero's in our eyes!! - The Gilley Family

I don’t even know if I can put into words what Central Hospital means to me. My 9 month old dog was hit by a car and left with 2 broken front legs (fortunately enough, that was the extent of her injuries). Central hospital acted quickly (so quickly they were waiting outside for us when we pulled in with our injured pup), was VERY responsive, and gave me status updates multiple times a day. The doctors, nurses, vet techs and all other hospital staff made sure my baby was always attended to and comfortable in this stressful time, and made sure I always knew and understood every detail about what was going on. I don’t know where my dog would be without them, but I can say with a smile on my face and with my baby sitting right next to me as I write this, that they are hero’s. Thank you, Central Hospital.
