I can't say enough about how incredible this place is! Everyone is so nice, comforting and supportive, literally Everyone. They are compassionate and caring. We had to bring out 12.5 year old Golden there after he hurt his back paw and …

I was looking for specialty prescription dog food. The supplies are so limited everywhere this was a fail for me. My dog has been a patient here many times. They are experts in their fields but very expensive too.

Friendly and caring. Got us in right away. Only thing I didn't like was that I told them the exact breed of my dog and the vet then told me, she must be something else... which was weird to me

Just want to extend a massive heartfelt thank you to the team here who saved my dog’s life with a quick diagnosis and seamless surgery after ingesting gorilla glue. We worked with a variety of staff members over the scariest 48hrs of our life and I couldn’t be more thankful to them. Each person I spoke with was kind, thoughtful, knowledgeable, and did what they could to help put our anxieties at ease. In reading through other’s reviews I’m a bit disheartened for them. Veterinary medicine is often such a thankless job, and there’s no perfect way to handle emergencies. Please be considerate of the fact that this is an EMERGENCY hospital where they deal with crisis one after another and need to triage as appropriate. This could mean waiting upwards of 5-8hrs+ if your pet is stable. It’s a good thing if they’re not rushing your pet in right away. Thank you for taking such great care of Jade during her scare. We are deeply grateful to this hospital and are so lucky to have your team and services available to us. Sending love, from Jade’s family????

On 1/11/22 my senior cat’s health took a turn for the worst (rapidly). I rushed him to NVS and was quickly greeted by a concerned staff member curbside. Unfortunately, a tough decision was made to euthanize Blackie. The vet approached this with such kindness and compassion. Also, a man on the other end of the phone gathering my information (didn’t get his name) he promised the staff would surround Blackie with lots of love and he listened to me through all my tears. As sad as the situation was to lose my best friend..NVS staff truly put me at ease and went above and beyond. They are true angels on earth ????????????‍⬛

Drove 50 miles for a surgical consult for my dog, only to be told there was no appt. The only appt was the one cancelled in Dec, which was correct! The appointment was made for today Jan 22 at 10:00am. I told the person who answered the phone, I made this appt. 2 weeks ago. When I called to reschedule, I asked if there was an appointment on Monday 1/17/22, was told no, "Dr Weissman was off that day" so I took today, also asked if there was anything a little later, was told "no, Dr in surgery in the afternoon, 10:00 Was all we had", book it I replied . How would I have known if the Dr was off on the 17th if I didn't speak to someone! I certainly would not have gone out in zero degree weather if I didn't have an appointment! Then the person who answered the phone asks if I have the name of the person I spoke to, yes I have it it's in my office at work, well if you want to call back with that persons name we can figure it out and reschedule. My reaction "what, are you kidding me, we'll find another surgeon " This office was recommended by our vet, who spoke highly of this office, well, she may have to rethink that. I WOULD NOT recommend this office! I have been in the medical field for over 30 years, and would have NEVER turned anyone away, my office or any office for thay matter woulld have gone out of the way to accommodate someone. This is a veterinarian office, the can't or wouldn't accommodate an animal!

Our almost 14 year old Border Collie awakened one day with necrotic type tissue on her lip and a red spot that started to bleed. We went to NVS and saw Dr. Wiseman and her staff. They were excellent. Over the next three weeks we had antibiotics and two more rechecks in case she needed surgery to remove it. It healed the bad tissue fell off and she was back to normal. We suspect it was a spider bite of some sort. There was one rude telephone receptionist during the calls back and forth over three weeks but Dr. Wiseman and the very qualified technicians were excellent. Thank you to all for taking care of our Border Collie, Vhari. ???? Margaret Eslinger

Dr. Jennifer McDaniel and her wonderful team (Rhonda, Jess) took care of my beloved Bernese Mountain Dog Jessie during the last 4 months of her life. She had an aggressive, inoperable cancer. We were treated with kindness every step of the way through a very difficult and sad time. We had 4 great months with Jessie once her cancer was diagnosed. I honestly felt I was able to give her the best medical care possible with Newtown Vet Specialists. Our goal was for her to have a high quality of life as long as possible - which we achieved. The team was attentive to detail and made themselves available to us over the holidays, going above and beyond to help us through the process.

It was a sad night. We had to put daddy < piper> to rest. The staff was amazing. I can't think of the name of the young lady that brought daddy in to us before it was time to say our goodbyes. She was so sweet and the vet was awesome too. In the time of darkness that night they helped us so much. # RIP daddy15yearsold

I cannot say enough good things about Newtown Veterinary Specialists. From the staff at the front to the night nurses (Beatrice especially), to the surgeons Dr. Headrick and Dr. Greenberg, every person we interacted with at NVS was kind, gentle, and patient with all of our questions and amazing to our anxious mastiff, Holly. Dr. Headrick and his team did an awesome job on her TPLO surgery and were incredibly responsive after the fact (even while on vacation). And i can’t say enough how amazing Dr. Greenberg and her team were when our dog Holly needed emergency eye surgery. The whole crew came in 12 inches of snow on their days off to do the procedure to save her eye sight. Dr. Greenberg was always responsive and came n multiple times on her off days to check on Holly. She also did an awesome job at explaining everything to us so we weren’t nervous. We rescue and foster dogs often with medical issues and have never been treated with the kindness and understanding this staff showed us. HIGHLY recommend NVS to anyone who loves their pet like family.

Each person I spoke to on the phone prior to the appointment and on the day of our visit was friendly and kind - so important! Dr. Weisman spoke to me prior to my dog’s procedures and clearly explained everything. I was emailed an estimate of the costs (low end and high end), prior to giving permission for the testing to be performed. Dr. Weisman called me after the CT Scan and biopsy were completed to let me know how my dog was and to discuss initial results. When we went to pick up my dog at the end of the day, Dr. Weisman (also Ashley and Stephanie) took the time to come out to the car to meet my husband and me, and to answer any other questions (this meant so much since we were not allowed in the hospital). She told us she would be in touch next week when the biopsy results were back. Dr. Weisman and everyone else seemed sincerely concerned which has made a big difference during this very difficult, stressful, and emotional time. Thank you!

POOR COMMUNICATION Was Referred by my original vet for Ultrasound for my dog as he was very sick. Underlined he was being treated for Lyme Disease and he his test showed low protein. The communication was just not well. I understand with COVID so many changes. How ever I was told one price and paid way more than that. Didn't tell me that I could leave and come back so after a couple hours of sitting in the parking lot I ask one of the girls walking to someone else's car. Left for a bit got a call thinking ok time to get my boy and nope instead was advised that I should think about letting him go as he has a 50/50 percent chance of making it. Well I chose to bring him home but first I had to wait almost five extra hours before he was actully ready. My husband went to get him without asking if he had been dewormed we were given that for him husband not realizing what it was payed for it. Didn't know that since we were Referred we also would get an emergency room fee. I'm ok with paying just not ok with paying for things after they are given. If they had communicated they would have known we didn't need that 50$ dewormer. Besides waiting forever and the communication my boy did come back in tact. He is almost 100% back to normal. So glad I didn't take the advice to let my poor baby go. He is doing so well now with his original medicine and I'm going to hope the Prednisone they prescribed there is also helping.

Working with Dr. Headrick and his team at Newtown Vetrinary Specialists made a very stressful situation very smooth. Everyone in the practice is committed to keeping pet parents informed throughout each step of the surgical process, responding to questions , and most of all providing a calming voice when your pet is out of your care and in theirs (thanks Ashley). So happy to have a A+ surgical and emergency team so close to me.

Took my sick dog there last night in the pouring rain. Website said opened 24/7 so got there about 9 PM. A tech was entering the building after bring a dog out to its owners. She said “you didn’t call ahead”? I said no and asked her if I would be allowed in the building with my sick dog. She said no they only have a couple of doctors available and I should call the number posted on the door and someone will come and take my dog, or else , she could give me some numbers of other places I could call for help. WOW!! Told her I did not feel very welcomed and THEN she asked what was wrong with my dog. Still stunned after her suggestion about calling other 24/7 hospitals I did call the number posted. She left me in the pouring rain with no further assistance. I was trying to get through but it was just a recording and kept putting me on hold. Soaked and wet and very upset I went back to my car and took my sick dog to the Katonah Bedford Veterinary Hospital which was fantastic. The cost was very reasonable for the exam and the medication. A 24 hour follow up is available at no charge. I understand that things are done differently because of Covid but when you have to run a sick animal out in the pouring rain to a 24/7 hospital you would hope that you would be greeted in a caring professional manner. After speaking face to face with a tech who offer no assistance other then offering other numbers I could call for help and getting nothing but a recording when trying to speak to someone about what was an emergency to me, I will never go back there again!

This place does only curbside. Like its picking up groceries. Poor bedside manners. The girl that came out to the car HAS ZERO BUSINESS WORKING WITH PETS.. I will NEVER visit this place again. Just save time and go to Shelton

My mom's cat got out of the cat carrier at Newtown Veterinary Specialists. He ran into the woods. There were 6 of us walking through the swampy woods. The techs were leaving food everywhere. They even set a trap hoping he would smell the tuna. I went back the next day & none of the food was touched. I walked through the woods again calling 4 the cat. No luck. There is 1 person I really need to thank. Emma went out of her way to post on sites about the cat missing. She used her lunch time to see if there was any signs of him. She did everything she could possibly do to find moms cat. I can't thank her enough for going above & beyond her duties to help find him. She is an asset to Newtown Vets. I would highly recommend this place for all the care & love they show your animals.

The entire staff from the reception people, vets, and vet techs were so kind and compassionate. Our cat had an eye issue and we were not able to get a traditional appt for an Opthomologist until Jan of next year. We were encouraged to bring him to their emergency hospital. The emergency vet was wonderful and was able to consult the specialist. Our cat required surgery that was performed within several days and is doing very well now. The Vets explained his condition and treatment plan in a very knowledgeable and easy to understand manner. Dr Greenberg, the ophthalmologist, was exceptionally skilled and was warm, compassionate, and very caring!! We live over 50 miles away and it was so worth the drive to receive the care that our cat got!!

My dog was in the hospital for 6 nights diagnosed with ITP. He was very sick and is now home on the road to recovery. I felt he had wonderful care. The veterinarians were all very nice and were constantly keeping me updated on his condition. They never rushed our conversations and always answered all my questions. I highly recommend them to care for your pet.
