This was our “go to place” with our dog for over 8 years even after moving close to an hour away. Dr Kumar and staff have always been wonderful and caring however within the last year something changed. I continued to bring in and question multiple symptoms our dog was having to include excessive panting, frequent urination , weakness, changes in bloodwork, infections but was basically sent home with a new medication each visit that did not correct or support symptoms. I’m not a Vet and by no means an expert but I had to ask to have tests done twice! And low and behold a diagnosis was found. Within a two week period we discovered how the lack of a diagnosis had affected several of his organs and how quickly his health had diminished. A gain sent home with a bag of meds ( and the wrong ones that have been corrected) and little to no instructions on them or a courtesy call to see how he was feeling. At this point we lost complete trust in his care and well-being. He then had to go to the hospital twice with multiple issues and yet not one phone call or interested on their part! We pray he has some recovery and work with a new group now that listens and treats the whole patient and not just the symptom. ( to include the correct meds). This should never have happened from the beginning and I’m very disappointed with Durham Vet and myself for not listening to instincts and searching elsewhere!

My husband and I have been rescuing dogs and cats for a while now Dr.Kumar has been their veterinarian all the time. He is the best human being that I ever met. All my animals are in his professional hands. He has an amazing team as well. I rescued a pit bull from a fighting pit and he doesn't like men but he adore dr.Kumar.

I have been taking my babies to Durham Vet for almost 25 years. I cannot say enough about how kind they've been to me and all of my cats, dogs, and all the rest over all of those years. Dr. Kumar and all of his staff are truly the best!

I brought my shih-tzu sophie after a fall down the stairs, I was a wreck, but they were very helpful and reassuring and above all they were caring and also very fast. They told me she would be ok just a couple of bruised bones but she would be fine! They also gave her some pain meds and cut her nails! Couldn't be happier!!! Thanks too everyone at this wonderful place!

We love Dr. Kumar and his staff! Our dogs love him and the staff too! We have taken multiple generations of pets to this vet. I know most vets are great here's why this is one of the best. It's a family practice. We have seen the techs start there and they continue to grow and develop there. They genuinely care for your pets and remember them when you return. We drive 25 mins to go to Durham Veterinary Hospital. If your new to the area or looking for a change in veterinary services I would highly recommend them to anyone without hesitation.

The staff and Dr Kumar at Durham Veterinary hospital are extremely caring and wonderful with my family and my Chihuhua Daisy. They have a genuinely caring way with pets and humans alike. They are wonderful with small and large breed dogs.

I've been coming here since I was a child with my family. As soon as I got my first two cats I went right to them. Amazing experience everytime I go. Staff is wonderful. I just got a puppy and the staff was great about giving me all the information as a first dog owner.

I hoped that I wouldn't have to write this review and my intention is not to tell people to go elsewhere but is in hopes that it changes the way DVH treats their clients. I even gave myself some time to heal before posting but with a clearer mind, I am even more upset by what happened and the lack of response or follow-up. This was my second bad experience but for the first, I went directly to Durham Vet and sent an email. For my first experience over a year ago, my dog had a tumor removed and after days of waiting for results and never receiving a call, I called the office. The woman who answered said they did receive the results and that the tumor was a melanoma. She said the doctor was trying to get in touch with a specialist. She didn't have more information (next steps, prognosis, stage). I never heard from the doctor, which led me to finding out how awful the diagnosis was via google. I sent an email letting them know how disappointed I was in their lack of follow up. After I complained about the above, they had another vet tech call to apologize and provide more information. It was difficult to hear that my dog most likely wouldn't have much time and more difficult to know that Dr. Kumar didn't feel the need to take the time to make that phone call. I never actually heard anything about his call with the specialist until I brought my dog in to be put to sleep only weeks later. Being that he is so compassionate in the moment, I would have assumed the same follow through. Most recently, my elderly pug had what I was told would be a simple surgery. He, however, was 15 years old and there was a chance of complications. Dr. Kumar said he would give him a mild sedative in order to remove the tumor from his leg. When I dropped him off in the morning, I was told to call by 2p if I hadn’t heard from anyone. I ended up calling at 3p after not hearing from the office. I was told that the doctor would be calling me back in ten minutes. Over an hour went by and I hadn’t heard from anyone. I attempted to call but the phones were busy. At around 4:30p, I received a call that he was out of surgery and ready to be picked up and he was doing fine. When I picked him up, I was surprised by how bad he seemed. He was panting heavily (even for a pug) and very dazed. Dr. Kumar said that they needed to give him oxygen a few times during the surgery and without remembering the exact language, alluded to it being touch and go at times. As they put Puggsley in my car, It didn't appear that he was "ready" to be sent home. My instinct told me he was not ok. However, I was told that the sedative would wear off and to keep him cool and he would start to calm down. I did everything they said and didn't leave his side. The heavy breathing barely settled down. About an hour after being home, our dog appeared to be having difficulty breathing and then what appeared to be a seizure or heart attack. At that point, there was nothing that we could do and he passed away. It was incredibly traumatic. It is possible that the surgery was just too much for him and there was nothing that could have been done, or maybe he needed more time in professional care. I know they were closing, but I would have happily brought him to Pieper. By the time he passed away, DVH was closed but I called the next morning to give them the news. It is almost a week later and I still haven't heard from Dr. Kumar. I know he is busy but a two minute phone call after such an awful situation seems like the proper professional, compassionate response.

After taking my bunchy to two different vets for a skin problem and getting no where with all the tests they wanted to do. We brought our bunchy in to dr Kumar and within minutes he was diagnosed and given meds to help. Amazing doctor and very skilled

I had a very sick cat and my vet would not see him. My best friend told me to come here so I made an emergency appointment. These people were amazing and compassionate when I had to unexpectedly euthanize my cat. I transfered all my pets' records to this vet the next day.

Dr. Kumar is the most knowledgeable and compassionate vet I have ever met. His diagnosis has always been spot on. His staff is helpful, friendly, and professional. Having owned numerous cats and dogs in the last 50 years I speak with experience. You could not find a better place to take your pets.

In my opinion, it seems like money is the first Thing instead of your animal. After coming here my whole dogs life. At the end I was treated very rudely by the staff. I kinda feel used, specially at the end wen I said just one vaccine shot at a time not 3. I love my dogg She’s old and is more like a family pet, but She’s my little baby no matter how old she is.all I have to say to them to improve more is, Treat all animals the same, I shouldn’t have to say this.

My cat had to be put down unfortunately but I want to say that Dr. Kumar and his staff were excellent. I feel that he was correctly diagnosed and they did everything they could for him. Will use their services in the future if I ever get another pet.
